| Personal Description: I'm an italian native speaker, graduated in Film and Media studies and I moved to Oxford to work at Oxfam. |
Teaching Experience: I taught italian for 9 months last year in Warsaw. |
Tutoring Approach: I taught a wide variety of students, between the ages of 8 and 50 years old, and for each of them I used a specific approach. I taught them Italian grammar and I also held conversation classes. I always tried to pay attention to their individual needs, looking for the right exercises (more or less difficult depending on their potential and capacities) and topics that were interesting for them. Usually I worked with movies, music videos, songs and with articles regarding Italian culture (poetry, politics, history, art, traditions, wines), depending on what my students were interested in. While I was studying Film and Media in Bologna, I took several courses in pedagogy and psychology connected to teaching methodologies. Those courses were related mainly to the teaching of topics like art, cinema, theatre and music, but I was able to apply the same principles when I started to teach Italian. I've always been adept at writing and I have a strong grasp of Italian grammar and dialects. |

| Personal Description: I am a second year dental student at the University of Dundee, and live in Glasgow during the holidays. In addition to studying for my BDS dental degree, I intend to complete an intercalated Bachelors degree next year, in either anatomy or microbiology. I have been employed previously as a summer student working for the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service, researching new methods of typing blood. I am enthusiastic about working with people who want to learn and people of any age who may be considering applying to study medicine, dentistry or science based courses at University. |
Teaching Experience: I have informally helped to prepare relatives and students at school and university for examinations and am enthusiastic and patient. In the last four years I have sat standard grades, highers, A Levels, Advanced Highers, the UKCAT entrance exam for medical and dental applicants and seminars on interview technique. The application procedure to higher education can be stressful and complicated, especially for prospective medical and dental students, not to mention highly competitive. I can use my experiences to give applicants an edge and encourage their confidence in their own abilities, whether it is boosting a grade in a national exam or offering advice for a stand-out personal statement. I also tutor students entering life science/ medical and dental courses on how to adapt to the different methods of learning at University and, by teaching core subjects, help take the pressure out of the first year of study. |
Tutoring Approach: I have always seen myself as more of a peer to the student, as opposed to an authority figure, and believe that is a much more effective way of communicating as there is less formality, which can be a barrier to communication. Also, having sat the SQA and Ed-excel examinations (Highers, A Levels etc.) recently I have a very intimate knowledge of the course content and access to resources which are up to date. In addition to this I believe exam technique is crucial to achieving top grades and should be integrated into lessons, something which I feel is overlooked by many teachers. |

| Personal Description: I am an experienced teacher who has been teaching for 30 years and have tutored for most of those. |
Teaching Experience: I would be able to provide you with plenty of revision tips and study techniques as well as giving you a good indication of what the SQA expects of candidates in the final exam. |
Tutoring Approach: Although I cannot guarantee it, my pupils generally are able to upgrade by about 20% - as long as they are willing to do the hard work involved. I generally work in parallel with the schoolwork - I do not like to interfere with the teacher's methods. This also means that I cover ALL the syllabus thoroughly. If you live within about 3-4 miles I would come to your house. My standard private rate is 30.00 per hour for one-to-one tuition at a student's own home. This includes all of my preparation time and any exam papers or other materials used. I will also recommend the purchase of some revision and problem books. For greater distances there may be an addition fee involved. |

| Personal Description: I am a third year student at the University of Bradford. This year i will be finishing my degree in International Relations. I was born and raised in Italy in a bilingual environment (my father being Italian, my mother a Slovene who has spent most of her life in Germany), and spent 7 years in Austria attending an international high school. Italian, Slovenian and German are therefore all first languages to me. Apart from my studies, a further passion of mine is the guitar. I have been playing the instrument for almost ten years now, having recently joined a few bands in Bradford. I play classical, acoustic as well as electric guitar. |
Teaching Experience: I have previously taught Italian and German to people of various ages, from children to adults, who wanted to learn the language in a relaxed and stimulating way. I have also been giving occasional guitar lessons to children eager to learn the basics of guitar playing in an informal and fun way. |
Tutoring Approach: I have a very broad approach to tutoring, usually valuating the needs of my tutees and structuring the lessons based on their requests. I like to keep the tutoring process informal thus facilitating the tutor - tutee relationship and create a relaxed atmosphere where everybody participates and contributes to the lesson with pleasure and confidence. When it comes to learning the guitar, I believe that, especially for children, the instrument should be seen as a form of fun, socialising and expression. My lessons are therefore based on teaching the basics of accompaniment and improvisation in informal sessions that aim at making the tutee fully enjoy the learning process. |

| Personal Description: Hi, I'm Matthew. Just moved back to the UK after spending a Year Abroad living, studying and teaching in France. I am reading BA (Hons.) French at Cardiff University and will be entering my final year in September. My areas of interest and expertise lie in French - English / English - French Translation, French Grammar, French Oral and French Literature of the 19th Century (in particular the works of Marcel Proust). I'm passionate about French and France, and am enthusiastic when teaching them! |
Teaching Experience: I have spent part of my Year abroad living and teaching in Amiens. I was an 'Assistant en Langues Vivantes: Anglais' (English Language Assistant), and facilitated and taught English in a French Lycee (Secondary School) to pupils aged 11 to 21 years. Following on from this, I accepted a post to study and research in the Universite de Limoges, where I studied French and French Literature and privately taught English, and am planning on returning to Limoges in September 2009 to work as a lecteur in the Dept of Anglophone Studies. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that learning should be fun, interesting and conducive. I have the advantage of having taught in France, and have received support, training and advice from The British Council, and consequently have a wealth of resources to facilitate the teaching and learning of French. I believe that individual students have individual styles and ways of learning and consequently, I am flexible in my approach to teaching French (depending on the needs of the pupil). Normally, I would like to meet with prospective students to not only see if we get on, but to gauge your ability in French and discover what it is you hope to achieve from tuition; a provisional meeting which I would charge half rate for. When I teach French I make it not only fun and interesting but also relevant to the demands of the pupil. |
