I am an elite tutor with a Masters Degree in English Literature from the University of Cambridge. I specialise in English, Drama and Italian, which I speak to near fluency.

I also have specialist experience of Oxbridge admissions and drama school applications.

I pride myself on being friendly, approachable and enjoyable to work with. I am also dedicated and highly organised.

I studied at Trinity College, Cambridge and I now work as a theatre and film director alongside my tutoring. I have worked on shows in the West End, at the National Theatre and the Almeida Theatre among others, as well as directing several short films.

Teaching Experience:

I have now been tutoring consistently for over eight years. Every one of my students has achieved the highest possible grade in the subjects in which I have tutored them.

I worked as a volunteer teacher at an international school in Swaziland for three months, running drama classes and English classes. I also coached the school rugby team. I am currently affiliated with the National Youth Theatre as well as several drama schools; I work with educational projects in theatres and drama schools around London, working closely and extensively with students and young people. I also have classroom experience as a teacher of English at a top independent school, giving me close knowledge of the national curriculum as well as the specific needs and pressures faced by my students.

Tutoring Approach:

When I tutor I like to be very open and conversational with the student. What is especially important is that the student comes away with the belief not that they have been dictated to, but that they have discovered things for themselves. I ask a lot of questions, guiding the student towards a conclusion rather than imposing it directly. This makes for a very interactive and exciting experience, an experience that contrasts perfectly with the proscriptive, curricular methods of traditional schoolteaching.

Above all, I feel that learning should be enjoyable. It is far easier to pass an exam when the student wants to absorb the material than if they are being forced to learn it by rote.

My approach also enables me to adapt to the needs of each individual student, and to have conversations both with them and with their parents. I recognise that each tutee has specific, unique needs, and I am always prepared to adjust my style and way of working to such needs.

At the academic skills pre-sessional courses at the University of Birmingham in 2012-2016 I gained even deeper experience supporting individual students with writing within very constrained time-limits. I guided all to success at their final assessments. I have had very positive feedback and comments of appreciation.

I have taught in various set-ups - whole class, pair work, group work, or one-to-one sessions. I am deeply interested in each student's individual learning needs and progress and one of my major strengths is differentiation. I sometimes prepare material at 4 levels of differentiation for a single class or small group. I use supportive strategies to boost students' confidence, at the same time challenging learners to achieve beyond their own expectations. I approach intense 1-to-1 sessions with the appropriate dynamics.

I am prepared to go beyond my 'job description' duties to help students with 'special needs'. I am interested in their individual circumstances and take them into account, where appropriate. I prepare resources to address their personal needs and interests. I review their progress and involve them in self-assessment towards autonomy of learning. I am familiar with the 'Assessment for Learning' policy and competent with implementing it widely.

I have worked successfully with students with dyslexia. At secondary school, one of my 'high-ability' dyslexic students scored an 'A' grade at her English GCSE, while another participated in a poetry competition. I have had success teaching students with autism and Asperger's as well.

I invest all of myself in my teaching. I am a highly trusted professional and have an exceptional rapport with my students. I am often quoted as a preferred tutor, who 'has the best way of explaining things' and 'is very patient, friendly and cheerful'. All students of mine - regardless whether at school, college or university - progressed by at least one level (even at short-term courses). A student with a debilitating illness on the BME, predicted to fail the course, not only passed it under my guidance, but achieved grades higher than his required level. In my 15-year teaching career I have never failed a student. I have achieved outstanding results at OFSTED observations. My latest annual lesson observation at BMETC was graded 'OUTSTANDING' and so was my performance at NAVITAS earlier this year. Another observation at BCU was unofficially deemed as 'the best on the course'. I have been invited to share exceptional ideas at training events and have also participated in numerous training activities at schools, colleges and universities. I often opt to peer-observe colleagues, to learn from their teaching styles.

Some more examples from my practice: a class of illiterate Yemeni housewives at BMETC, 2011, achieved a 100% pass at their ESOL exams, while 'advanced' international students at the BME, 2012 achieved some of the highest grades on the course. I have been successful dealing with pupils with behavioural problems at Harborne Hill School. Many reported an increasingly positive attitude to learning. I am a creative teacher and try to interest and enthuse students, so that they enjoy learning and celebrate their achievements.

Tutoring Approach:

First I negotiate the times and modes of tutoring with the parents of my potential pupil and agree on fees.
Then I organise a free initial meeting with the pupil and their parents, where I try to establish raport with the pupil. It is important, especially for children, to 'get a feel' of the new tutor and see if they can feel comfortable with her.
Then I try to access as much information as possible from the parents and the child about their progress at school and their attitude to school. If possible, I wish to see samples of the child's school work, or hear anything teachers have said/written about their progress.
During the first lesson I conduct an informal assessment of the pupil's skills - give them a piece of text to read, or free writing or short composition, or a selection of Maths problems to solve. When I get a clear picture of where my pupil stands with a certain skill, I create a short-term plan of work with them. I normally bring materials with me and do not ask parents to buy additional materials. If the parent wishes me to follow a certain self- help book, I am happy to oblige.
I update parents regularly of their child's progress - I try to do it after every lesson. I normally leave homework, designed to consolidate the material covered in the lesson, or develop their skills further. I wish parents to be involved as much as possible with helping or monitoring the completion of the homework.
I try to show my pupils as much respect as possible and affirm them as individuals. I acknowledge their birthdays, Christmas, or other family celebrations.
The parents can terminate the service at any time, with only one week notice.

Teaching Experience:

My name is Anton. I have master`s degree in Physics from University of New Hampshire. Besides my background as researcher I have four years of experience as a London based tutor. I primary teach A-level physics and most of my students were taking OCR, AQA, or Edexcel exams. I occasionally teach GCSE and University level subjects, such as Mechanics, Electrodynamics, and Quantum Mechanics. Currently I teach part-time in a private school.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is flexible. Usually I easy detect weak spots in students understanding and this gives me chance to focus on the most relevant topics for a particular student. I carefully prepare myself for each session, and my goal is to make the student involved in the lesson not just leaving him to listen to me. In my opinion the Math involved in A-Level physics is not hard at all, and many students that are good in Math think they can handle physics relatively easy, but this is most of the time not true. I apply extra effort, in my lessons to make sure that student understands the physics concepts not just memorizing facts. My observation is that if the student goal is to achieve an A grade it requires at least two hours of tutoring per week throughout the academic year, of course sometimes one hour is Okay, and some ambitious student ask for more than two hours per week. In any case it will give me great pleasure to help you improve your knowledge and make you feel the beauty of PHYSICS.

It wasn't until I started studying Science as an adult learner in an FE college, where I was taught by inspiring and enthusiastic lecturers, who illustrated important concepts with analogies, diagrams and genuinely interesting practicals, that I began to realise that science was relevant to me and was "my thing".

This experience has stayed with me and has given me a passion for making science exciting and largely the reason that I chose a career in personal tutoring.

I am a professional full-time private tutor. I have recently graduated with an MSc in Science (Medicinal Chemistry and science education studies). I have also graduated with a First class honours degree in Life Sciences (Open) and I have completed a Post-graduate Certificate in Professional Studies in Education, specialising in Science Education.

Teaching Experience:

I specialised in A level and GCSE tuition and I have extensive experience working with a wide range of students, from those who are struggling and need help understanding the key concepts to those who do well in science but need support to develop the exam technique that will get them the top grades.

In my professional life prior to tuition, I was employed as a company trainer in the catering industry, working with newly employed staff on an individual basis to help them develop the skills and knowledge relevant to their new positions and training existing staff to take on more senior roles. This gave me extensive experience of one-to-one tuition and creating individual training strategies.

Tutoring Approach:

When I begin tutoring a new student, I spend some time getting to know the individual and we begin by discussing their current feelings about Science and what they would like to get out of the tutorial sessions. I also carry out an assessment of the individual's learning style (sounds scary, but it's not, it's just a short quiz). By discovering how the individual learns best, I can structure the tutorials so that they are composed of activities that will be both effective and enjoyable. In all cases, I endeavor to make Science enjoyable and relevant to the individual student as possible and tailor the explanations to their particular interests.

As well as providing subject-specific tuition, I place particular emphasis on the development of study and exam skills. Where relevant, this includes teaching essay writing skills, how to revise, how to approach exams and specific scientific skills, such as data analysis and evaluation, which are often assessed in course work. I also offer tutorial sessions which focus just on study skills, for those who are comfortable with their subject knowledge but need extra support in these areas.

As well as traditional face to face sessions, I also offer fully online lessons using skype and an interactive whiteboard which allows me to interact with students in the same way as in a face-to-face lesson. Tutoring Approach:

My previous experience of private tutoring made me develop my pedagogical skills, which I had never really had to use before. As I was new to tutoring I was a bit anxious at first but it turned out easier than I expected and my students didn't seem traumatized by me either. I am friendly but focused on work and methodology.

Since this is private tuition, I always try my best to adapt to my pupil's needs and personnality in order to offer him or her the best possible service. Martial Arts:
I'm a high-ranking martial arts instructor (6th degree black belt with 30 years experience) and have been teaching now for well over 20 years, with students of all ages from 5 up to those in their 60's. I've taught in schools, worked with police and youth groups etc. I often teach private lessons to individuals, both from my own school and those with no prior experience.

Life Coaching:
Having successfully escaped the rat-race to pursue my own goals it's fair to say I've learned a lot about personal development. I've also completed a number of courses and seminars with world-class coaches such as Anthony Robbins. I now share this experience with a number of private clients for personal development and life coaching to help them with motivation, goals and productivity in their own careers.

Teaching Experience:

I have provided tuition in Mandarin Chinese to many native English speakers since I moved to the UK in 2014. My learners have been mostly adults and from various backgrounds, but also children and teenagers. They have included those learning for professional or academic reasons, and those simply interested in Chinese language and culture. Several have been having regular weekly or twice-weekly lessons with me for more than a year.
I have gained experience of the British educational system and teaching methods through acting as a volunteer teaching assistant in a college with modern language expertise. I have also studied for an Education and Training Award. Insights gained from this inform the approaches to teaching that I adopt.
In China, I worked at two language training schools in Harbin over a three-year period, and then I moved to Beijing. Here I taught children and teenagers for a year, and then for the next five years worked in a company that provided language training and IESOL tests to adults. I am now able to draw from my teaching experience in both countries when providing tuition in Mandarin.

Tutoring Approach:

I tailor my teaching to satisfy the individual needs of learners. This involves taking account of their reasons for learning Mandarin and their aspirations, and the learning styles that work best for them. Rather than stick rigidly to a standard course, I will vary the approaches to maintain interest and help with the learning process. Techniques can include question and answer sessions, use of flashcards, role-play, games, presentations, audio-visual materials and handouts.
