I have also been involved in setting up a Limited Company which aims to provide academic resources to students in Higher Education (at University level).

My work experience in the healthcare, higher education and training business sectors over the last 13 years has also given me the opportunity to develop a range of teaching / training styles that will suit most learners very well.

Teaching Experience:

Over 8 years experience, delivering 1-2-1 tuition to students aged predominantly 6-18.

Most common subjects taught - English / Maths / Science (up to GCSE). Also worked extensively with adults in the local community, training people in basic computing skills relevant to their specific needs.

Tutoring Approach:

I follow the National Curriculum, with set lesson plans for each tutor session.

We will follow a learning plan that will run alongside school teaching. I do not help with school homework on a regular basis. Instead, I use the time I spend with each student, to improve their areas of weakness, so that they can do their homework and coursework / assignments with confidence themselves.

Lesson 1 is always a discussion of what the student / parents wish to achieve, along with an assessment of the students current capabilities. If you would like the first lesson to be more productive, I can send the assessment to be completed before the first class. The assessment will need to be returned 24hrs before the first planned lesson so I can look it over and plan my teaching approach for the student.

Teaching styles / tools:
- Each lesson will have a starter discussion about any areas of concern in school - I will make notes and plan to work on those areas in the next lesson.

- We will then work on a mini-project together, which will help the student to learn and develop a range of skills that he/she can then use in their own coursework / homework assignments.

- For subjects which involve reading, the student will be given homework to read a chapter / section for discussion at the next class.

- For Maths / Science, there will be worksheets which the student will need to complete on his/her own after lesson.

- If at any time there are any questions / concerns from the students or parents, I am more than happy to spend part of the lesson in discussion about these with you.

- All lessons are taught in an informal and positive / open-discussion style. But in order to make lessons successful and get the most out of your learning plan, please ensure that there is somewhere quiet to work, and that you have all of the required equipment / stationery beforehand (i.e. pens / pencils / eraser / ruler / calculator / notebook or note paper etc).

- It would also be useful to have internet / wifi set up, to use either with your own computer, or with mine to access online resources.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
All student details are kept confidential and you can be assured that no personal information will be shared with anybody else. However, I may ask permission to use student's work as an example of how to achieve highly in assignments / homework, with other student. Again, all personal details would be removed.

The minimum time per lesson is 1 hour per week for regular bookings.

Semi-Intensive courses can be booked at 2+ hours per week with prior agreement.

Intensive 2-4 week courses can be booked with daily lessons close to exam times. These have very limited spaces available and would include longer classes if need be, depending on how the student performs during our initial assessment.

Intensive courses are also very useful for students wanting to pass grammar school entrance examinations or prepare for other specific exams and assessments.

Teaching Experience:

I have qualified on the Trinity College, London, TESOL course at Universal Language Training in Woking. During the course we gave over six hours of teaching and subsequently I have been teaching on a one to one basis.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to get the student to do most of the work, speaking and writing English, and thinking for themselves rather than all the prompting coming from me. I tailor the work to their needs, so if it is a business client we look a the situations they encounter in their work and using role play we practise English in the workplace.

I taught Russian and French in secondary schools in UK (1995-1999), Russian and Serbo-Croat for the Ministry of Defence (1980-2006), Basic Skills English at Bedford Prison (2007-2008) and English as a foreign language in Kishinev (Moldova,1993), Odessa (2008) and Moscow (2008-2010). In film I collaborated with a variety of creatives including directors ,lighting,costume,makeup,special effects designers,which was enriching and inspirational.Then I began to paint for other designers on their projects and my artwork became a larger part of my work.
Now I work mainly from my studio in Wimbledon on commissions (including painting ) for films & interiors,portrait commissions and my own personal projects in between tutoring.Drawing,painting,photoshop,collage,photography and model making are used in many of my projects. I currently have a painting in the BP Award 2016 at The National Portrait Gallery,London,then in Lincoln and finally to The Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh until the end of March 2017.
I continue to be passionate about the visual world,creating and sharing my skills and experience, carefully designing my sessions to respond to the students requirements in an enjoyable and rewarding way.

Tutoring Approach:

Motivational, inspirational, encouraging. All things are possible with a good attitude. A can do approach. I do NOT subscribe to the "we don't do it like that mentality" , if there is a better way of doing something then I'm positive about new methods.
For example, when my daughters were learning their tables I wrote my own simple spreadsheet to enable tables practice on a table by table random basis. This is a completely unashamedly a drill system that produces results. Easily possible to learn all tables to 12 within a month if sufficient time is invested, it is also an enjoyable process that 99% of the children that I taught enjoyed, I used the spreadsheet extensively in the schools at which I taught. Infinitely extendable for the brightest to 13, 14, 15 20x tables; likewise can be simplified to 2x and 3x for those that need more time. Also programmable to practise number bonds with any number of digits.

I have also developed the spreadsheet to enable learning of vocabulaire francais.

I am currently taking my PhD in classics at Durham University, having taken my undergraduate degree in classics at Cambridge and my MA at Durham. Also I should mention that I have GCSE and A-level qualifications in Latin and Ancient Greek and am very familiar with the structure and requirements of these exams for any student who may be taking them. My current work focuses heavily on Latin literature, as I am preparing a commentary on Martial's twelfth book of epigrams, although I am equally able to offer assistance to students of classical Greek literature.

Teaching Experience:

During my undergraduate degree I gained experience in private tuition by running a weekly class for two years. The class was based around the works of Homer and catered to a range of abilities. Although the class was primarily geared around making sure the tutees could render an accurate translation of a set passage, assistance was also provided in matters of syntax and style, metrical and literary stylistic considerations, as well as explanations of socio-historical matters.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tuition will of course largely be dependent upon the needs and ability of the respective tutee. For GCSE or A-level students, however, I think it would always be best to begin each lesson with a quick test on a point of grammar and vocabulary (as there is a prescribed list of vocabulary up to AS level), and a literary stylistic feature (e.g. identifying a chiasmus etc.), since these formal aspects essentially underlie the series of unseen exams from GCSE - A-level. After this test, each lesson should focus on a text, ideally alternating each lesson with a text that is prescribed as one of the set texts for the respective exams with an unseen passage. This approach tends to produce the best results since the unseen passages give a true indication of the student's strengths and weaknesses and help the tutor to understand more easily what aspects need to be prioritised.

Hi all,

I am a chemistry graduate with a fresh and wide knowledge of the subject. My strongest qualities are probably that I can explain science in plain language and I am genuinely interested to get you interested! We can start from the basics if needed and step by step working our way up to understand the underlying concepts of chemistry. I have a great amount of experience in writing coursework and assignments, I can teach you to research effectively and grab the details you need without getting lost in the huge amount of information you can find on the internet. I can give you hints on how to put essays and papers together if you got any issues with that. I enjoy when when my students get confidence, show interest and of course that leads to better grades eventually. It takes time and effort though, you have to work hard if you want to improve! I can effectively assist with biology, biochemistry as well.

Teaching Experience:

I teach since 2013 and find a great joy in it, because every student is different and there is always a challenge to find the best possible way to make them work for those results. There are different techniques and useful tips I can give how to remember more complex topics, but naturally you will have to take your time to read and practice as well if you'd like to make the most of it. I can help you to work through the sometimes complex and abstract ideas and concepts, they will help you to develop useful skills you don't even know of. It is impossible to remember everything and luckily this is not what they expect from you on exams. You need a good grasp of the subject , so you can solve seemingly complicated questions if you know the basics very well and are able to make associations. You need to develop a good sense of judgement and should be able to see the point in less straight forward questions as well. My ultimate goal is to help you getting to a stage where you will independently work without the need of much feedback and support.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a very friendly and easy-going nature and I will try to make sure that students will feel comfortable during the lessons. I think that is particularly important, because they should not feel shy or awkward about asking the same thing several times in case they don't get it straight away. I am more than happy to go through over and over anything you have problems with. There is always a different way to explain it, just as everybody has a different mindset! Small details can make huge differences and better understanding will help to get the confidence the students need when they assessed at exams . I regularly check if my help is effective and the most suitable in the particular topic. I always take my time to prepare as well, to be ready to answer any question and I always make sure there are no blind spots. I believe in active learning, therefore we will solve questions most of the time instead of going through the book. Of course my personality or teaching style should not fit all, then I will advise to keep on searching until you find the right person you can learn from.

I am Dimitra, born in Piraeus, Greece. I hold a Bachelor degree in History & Archaeology, a master in Psychology of Education and Educational Practice and another master in Applied Human Rights. Teaching Experience:

My teaching career began back in 2005. I have worked as a private tutor but also in mainstream schools and I have experience from international schools overseas and from Academies in the UK.
I have worked in Greece for 9 years as a Classics and Humanities teacher, preparing students for the national exams for admission to Higher Education. I have taught Latin, Classical Greek, Modern Greek and History.

All the lessons are planned using the constructivist theory and the scaffolding principle where prior knowledge is deployed and used as the foundation to built upon. My lessons are challenging, age appropriate and differentiated to meet the needs of every individual student. Formative assessment and revision are used frequently to ensure any gaps and/or misunderstandings are dealt with appropriately and promptly and students have the time to consolidate the new knowledge. My students are always engaged in the learning process and are encouraged to become independent learners, but also see value in what they are doing. Various assessment strategies are used to ensure progress. Last but not least, my lessons are fun! Even when I use socratic questioning, my students will enjoy their learning and will be looking forward to their next lesson.

Personal Description:
Physics is (in my opinion) a fantastic subject, and one that is highly regarded in society, not to mention indispensable if a career in engineering or some of the sciences is to be pursued.

Before I decided to change career and become a teacher, I worked for a British sports car manufacturer as a design engineer, using many of the principles I now teach in my then, day to day work.

I graduated from Coventry University in 2000 with a BEng (Hons) in Automotive Engineering Design, before going on to read an MBA in Business Management.

After a number of years working in the automotive industry, I got involved in teaching through the Formula Schools initiative.

I graduated from The University of Nottingham in 2010 with a PGCE in Secondary Science (Physics).

This history of working in industry before going becoming a teacher/tutor allows me to bring in relevant examples of where the theory fits in with the real world. I feel that this is important and I find it helps to bring a subject to life for the student,

Teaching Experience:

I qualified as a physics teacher in 2010 and have worked as a teacher or tutor since.

I now work full time as a physics tutor, working on a one to one basis with students across a spectrum of abilities at both G.C.S.E. and A level.

Tutoring Approach:

I provide a calm, friendly approach, taking care to find where precisely the student is having problems, then either tweak theories and knowledge in order to correct any misconceptions or start from the beginning with them, taking the time to fully support, explain and develop the student's knowledge and skills in that area, making sure that the foundations are laid to create a strong base for any future knowledge to be built upon. This is important in both G.C.S.E and A level as they are both built upon a spiral curriculum, whereby topics and previous knowledge are revisited and used time and time again throughout the course.

Often, the difference between a puzzled look and the "eureka" moment that all teachers strive for, is just one explanation or a slight tweak on the explanation of a theory away. Sometimes, the difference may be supporting the examples and calculation side, this support then giving the student the confidence in their knowledge and understanding.

In addition to providing subject content tuition, I also provide exam preparation and technique,, past paper practice, revision schedules, constant progress monitoring and ongoing progress evaluation..
