Personal Description:
Nick is an Oxford English graduate who has worked as a strategy consultant and set up various businesses as an entrepreneur, including raising $5m in funding as Development Director for a military website in San Francisco, developing a 1m property portfolio in Notting Hill and the Alps and providing financial backing for the first two albums by a singer-songwriter from Brisbane, who has now won record deals with Sony and EMI and released a number one single in Greece. In his spare time, he loves playing golf, skiing and dancing:
- He helped win the southern and national team ballroom dancing championships for Oxford University and won a Half Blue for being on the winning team in the Varsity match.
- He spent four ski seasons in Mribel and Val d'Isre and lived in Lyon, where he learned to speak French fluently with the aid of a French girlfriend.
- He also spent 18 months in Brisbane, where he became a scratch golfer, and now coaches privately and at City Golf in London.

Teaching Experience:

He has had over a hundred clients aged between six and 46 whom he teaches English, French, Maths, essay-writing and information technology. He also coaches various sports to friends and colleagues in his spare time, including golf, sailing, ballroom and Latin dancing.

Tutoring Approach:

Nick is based in London but is happy to teach in person at a mutually convenient location and/or give help and advice over the phone or by email. For example, after his golf lessons, he sends his clients email summaries of the points covered during the lessons. Clients have told him he is very patient, and his lessons have been very helpful.

"Thank you so much for your help! And thank you so much for letting me send you my draft and read over it!! I'm a bit clumsy with my sentences, so you reading it will be a great help!!

"You really have helped me in grasping the concept of this essay question and what to include!"

Personal Description:
I am Yifen. I have gained excellent teaching experience in Chinese at all levels and in Maths(From KS1 upto GCSE). I received positive feedback from my previous students and gained credits to my patience, explicit express and responsibility. I have got a degree of PhD at the School of Education in the University of Manchester. I have been appointed as a governor in a primary school in York.
Regarding my personality, I am a very easygoing person, kindly and also with a high sense of responsibility. I have been living in UK more than six years. I have stayed in places covered students of all creeds and ethnic backgrounds, and I am being socialised with course mates, tutors and other friends, so I gained significant experience of working in the international culture and quite appreciate living in a place with multi-culture background people and have been benefited from such diversities.

I like travelling and experiencing different things, and have visited a few places, such as European countries(England, Scotland, Welsh, Netherlands, Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain), Africa(Cameroon), South Korea, Honking and Marcao. I love sports, especially, swimming, yoga, horse riding, cycling and hiking.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught Mandarin to non-native English speakers (aged from 9-60 year-old) at different levels both in China and in the UK for about 10 years. This deeply developed my valuable knowledge of teaching students by meeting their individual needs. I gained valuable teaching experience from helping in the primary school including the Nursery in York. I have been supporting the adult with a learning difficulty (e.g. dyslexia) in York Learning since January 2015.

I am a free lance mandarin teacher and have been working with some language organisations, ie., Cactus Language Training since 2012.

Achievement:
e.g.I have been currently helping one of my students with her preparation of GCSE Mandarin since October , 2014 and she achieve GCSE Mandarin A* in summer 2015! I am currently helping her with Chinese Mandarin AS level.

My students and me myself have enjoyed the lessons.

Tutoring Approach:

I take all efforts to prepare lessons to meet students' needs.I endeavor to create a free conversation, which I think a good atmosphere is very important to learn a language and to encourage learners' speaking. Lessons will be prepared. There will be some prepared funny stories or other material to make fun. So you can learn mandarin and have fun here!
My understanding is a good teacher is to be responsible for the students and to meet students' needs. My working experiences and my academic study have ascertained my belief that it is essential to teach the students in front of you rather than the test.
So I endeavor to be a best listener and observer to identify problems occurring during the lessons and to work out the solution and to develop your potential at maximum.

If you feel a bit struggling with or tired of learning Mandarin on your own, I would encourage you to come to me and work together to achieve your goal more efficiently.

There are some textbooks I have been using for the learners, such as:
Confidence Chinese Vol. Getting Started
Confidence Chinese Vol2. Living in China
Chinese Made Easy Book1, and Book2
Standard Course HSK and
Chinese Made Easy for Kids 1.

Personal Description:
I enjoy maths and helping other people to enjoy it too. I have always kept up my interest in maths by studying with the Open University and I particularly enjoy finding ways to use games and puzzles to create interest and understanding. I worked in business computing and always enjoyed the training side of the job. At the moment I am working as a private tutor, helping my husband to renovate and restore a seventeenth century house and training an unruly young sprollie dog.

Teaching Experience:

I have a PGCE in secondary maths teaching and taught in a secondary school for one year. During my career in IT as an analyst/programmer I trained staff in programming techniques, and also trained users as part of the implementation of the many systems I was involved in. My enjoyment of maths and teaching led me to refresh and extend my skills by studying for a PGCE in post compulsory education. During the course of this I gained experience of whole class teaching, one to one and small group tutoring at GCSE and A-level.

I have now been working as a private tutor with individual pupils for a year and am learning all the time! I have experience of students taking GCSE maths for the first time and with those doing resits. I can offer tuition up to AS level (C1, C2, S1). I have experience of working with students with dyslexia. I am also an Adult Education Tutor and work with people returning to maths later in life.

Tutoring Approach:

I love helping other people to understand and enjoy maths, and I know that the classroom is not always the best place to do this - many people need the individual attention that one to one or small group tutoring gives in order to bring up their basic skills, learn to build on them and so gain confidence and enjoyment. Maths is too often the subject that people learn to hate and fear - a little one to one help can turn all that around. I aim to give my students a good understanding of the subject rather than learning one-off tricks and rules.

The following is an unsolicited testimonial from one of my tutee's parents:

"Deborah is a very professional tutor and always tries to make our son's weekly maths tutorial as beneficial, creative and enjoyable as possible. She is very dedicated and prepared to listen and help and follows up her tutorials with useful homework for our son to work on during the week. You can see how much personal satisfaction she gets from helping our son, which is great.

I would not hesitate to fully recommend Deborah and her approach to tutoring maths. She clearly cares about her work and helping children to get to grips with maths."

Personal Description:
I'm a 23-year-old Physics graduate from Cambridge University living in South London. I received a first in Natural Sciences (specialising in Physics in the final two years) in my finals in May 2014. I went to school at Alleyn's Independent School in South London where I was School Captain and an academic scholar. I attained 10 A*s at GCSE, 4 A*s at A level (in Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths) and 5 As at AS level (in the above subjects and English). I taught myself the A2 Further Maths syllabus and got full marks in Chemistry.

Teaching Experience:

I've worked regularly as a tutor over the last five years and have approximately 800 hrs of one-to-one lesson experience with an age range of 5-19. I have taught over 30 students in total and at least 20 of those for longer than six months so can provide multiple references. I have tutored the following subjects:

A-Level: Chemistry, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics
GCSE: Maths, Sciences (single, double and triple), English.
Public and Grammar school entrance examinations: 7+, 9+, 11+, 13+ (including Eton Scholarship exam)

Tutoring Approach:

The thing that makes one-on-one tutorials more effective than a group lesson is the potential for them to be student led. I try not to talk too much but instead favour practicing questions (particularly in mathematics) and getting the student to explain topics with a view to pin-pointing gaps in understanding. This way I add to what the student already knows rather than lecturing on what they may already understand.

I try and vary the sessions, particularly with younger students, in order to maintain concentration levels throughout. For example, in GCSE maths and science lessons I will try to work in a quiz mid-way through the lesson to avoid boredom. I like to conduct relaxed and informal lessons because I think a student is far more likely to learn when they are not stressed.

Personal Description:
I am a retired primary school teacher who has been a private tutor for fifteen years. I am an experienced and highly qualified counsellor too so my teaching style is supportive and validating.

Teaching Experience:

I was a primary school teacher for 27 years and have been a tutor for 15 years.

Tutoring Approach:

My main approach is to build confidence in a child so that they believe in their own ability to succeed and have skills to solve problems. A child does not need to know the answers but needs to have strategies to work through problems and solve them. This involves accuracy, perseverence, patience and creativity. There is always more than one method and children are encouraged to find their own way to solve solutions using known methods in addition to learning new methods.

In my spare time, I enjoy astronomy, cycling and playing the euphonium with the Army Reserve Band of the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment.

Teaching Experience:

I have recently relocated to Liverpool and am looking to build up a tutoring profile here. In previous academic years I have had the following distribution of students:

2015-16: 7 A Level, 5 GCSE
2014-15: 3 A Level, 5 GCSE

All of my students have achieved over and above their expected grades.

In addition, I teach the violin and viola to children and adults, from beginner to diploma level. I should clarify that I don't teach academic music, rather am happy teaching instrumental music to the age groups listed. I am able to combine mathematics tuition and music teaching for individuals who would be interested.

Tutoring Approach:

For those studying A Level and GCSE Mathematics, it is very important to be able to identify areas which require work and bring these to the attention of a tutor; my approach to mathematics tutoring is a student lead approach. I also like to instigate discussions about general study and revision technique which can be transferred to other subjects as well. Given the appropriate contact time with me, students are always prepared for exams well in advance.

I offer an introductory session at no fee. This is for myself, the student and parent(s) to get to know each other, and also to discuss where the student would like help.

My music teaching approach is focused on general musicianship and encouraging the enjoyment of playing. I do work on grades with my students but prefer to allow them to develop to a point that I know they will be able to pass their exams easily. Many students who are taught with too much of a focus on grades give up and stop playing altogether, and this is the reason for my approach.
