Personal Description:
I'm twenty three and have lived, worked and studied in the south Hampshire area my whole life. I love the area and intend on staying here for the foreseeable future! I'm currently studying Graduate Entry Medicine at the University of Southampton, having completed my BSc. (Hons) Human Physiology at the University of Portsmouth in 2015. I attended Hamble Community Sports College, achieving 14 GCSEs at grade A and A* - top of my year - and Peter Symonds College, studying Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, Critical Thinking and General Studies. My Mathematics and Statistics GCSE (taken a year early) were the highest the school had ever achieved, both gaining an A* (99.5% and 100% respectively).

Teaching Experience:

During my GCSE preparation period, and during the exam time also, I tutored several students in my year and below for Mathematics and Statistics, alongside their current teaching at school. I have also, however, given tuition to other adults, most of whom were taking their Mathematics GCSE as an extra qualification in order to get a promotion at work. I would be very willing to do any type of Key Stage 2, 3 or GCSE Mathematics or Statistics teaching for a person of any age.
I have now taught many students, ranging from ages 5 - adult, and all of those which have sat exams have at least achieved the grades they were after. I have helped students to reach required grades, supplementing class teaching, catching up on missed lessons, improving old Maths skills and more recently as a standalone teacher of the entire GCSE syllabus. I have also helped individuals gain much needed confidence in their own skills and I have a lot of experience in helping students to believe in themselves!

Tutoring Approach:

Mathematics being a specific passion of mine, I encourage students to apply their own knowledge to the question, before adding any new information. By showing proof of how a calculation or question works, I believe that anyone can grasp a method if they are shown the reason behind its usage. I believe I can offer an alternative to the class driven method of teaching, and allow students to gain aptitude in spotting the need for a calculation just by reading the question, and hopefully then on to creating their own calculations and solutions! I also aim to make a heavy question of 5 or 6 marks appear to be just a group of smaller questions, making each mark easier to get. I've been teaching for four years now and I've seen many students suffer from a lack of confidence in their own ability, and I always ensure that not only does the person have core, and advanced knowledge, but that they have confidence in the fact that anything can be achieved!

Personal Description:
I am a professional actor with a first-class English degree (University of York). Over my years of private tutoring experience I have learnt that the two most important attributes for a tutor are a) a passion for your subject, and b) an ability to get on and connect with your tutees.
I have always loved English literature and language (my love for the latter having recently been stoked by taking a CELTA qualification) and combine a real passion for these subjects with a performer's ability to relay that passion.

Teaching Experience:

Several years of private tutoring experience.

8 hours of CELTA teaching practice.

I taught IB English (standard and higher levels) for five months at the United World College of Southern Africa (Swaziland).

Tutoring Approach:

Tutoring allows me to exercise my twin passions: arts subjects and acting. I believe there is an aspect of performance in teaching; I can communicate my enthusiasm, and make learning both interesting and exciting.

Personal Description:
There are plenty of "tutors" who offer many different subjects over a wide age range. However, I only offer A-level or I.B. Diploma (or equivalent)in maths, physics and chemistry to students who are still at school. I keep to just this because (so I'm told) I'm very good at teaching these subjects at this level, and it's what I enjoy doing.

As well as teaching I have published four maths books, available in hard-copy and kindle versions. One at GCSE level, two at A-level, and one that can be used by both age groups. These have sold worldwide.

It should also be noted that I only tutor from my home. With the number of students I tutor travelling would not be practical. There are plenty of tutors that are cheaper than me and prepared to travel, but a look at their qualifications and experience might make you think twice about using them.

Teaching Experience:

I have qualifications from excellent UK universities in all the subjects that I offer, and I am a UK qualified teacher. However, I'm very proud of the fact that most of my classroom teaching has been done outside the UK. This means that I have taught in good, well resourced, schools, which are not afflicted by the malaise from which so many UK schools suffer, and where the academic expectations of the school, parents and students are high. In such schools one is able to concentrate on ones teaching, which is seldom the case in UK schools. This is why I am now a full-time tutor. I can devote my energies completely to teaching the subjects I enjoy. In this capacity I teach many more hours A-level than the vast majority of classroom teachers. In fact, I probably teach more A-level in each of my subjects than most school based teachers do.

As already mentioned, as well as teaching in England I`ve also taught in New Zealand, Germany and Italy. I`ve taught across the entire 11 to 18 age range and at all abilities from struggling 11 year old students to top set 18 year old students. I`ve taught in all-boys schools, all-girls schools, mixed schools, FE and sixth form colleges. This has been at schools that get good results!

As well as A-Level, I`ve taught IB Diploma: at both Standard and Higher Levels (also Mathematical Studies). This has been mainly maths, but also some physics and chemistry. I`ve given intensive revision courses in Standard Level Mathematics, and Higher Level Mathematics, which were very well received. I should also mention that IB Diploma is more demanding than A-level - on both the student and the teacher.

So, whether you need help with your chemistry, physics, or ANY area of maths, I`ve got recent experience teaching all of these. This has been across several exam boards: Edexcel, AQA and OCR.

Among the schools whose students I have recently tutored are: Dame Alice Owen`s School, Enfield County School, Enfield Grammar School, Highlands School, Hockerill Anglo-European College, Princess Helena College, Southgate School, St. Michael`s Catholic Grammar School, The Latymer School, The Royal Masonic School for Girls, and Woodhouse College.

Tutoring Approach:

I`m typically very informal and relaxed, which most students seem to appreciate.

When you come to me, you get to choose what you want help with. Unlike far too many tutors I won`t try to tell you what the lesson should be about, unless this is something you want me to do. In fact, some of my students have been known to ask for (and receive) help in maths, physics and chemistry, all in one session.

• Attended Secondary Mathematics Conference in Stirling University on 3rd March 2012 which was arranged by the Scottish Mathematical Council. It was extremely beneficial for me as it allowed me to be open to new ideas including active learning, cooperative learning, and differentiation
• Created ICT resources for my S3 Credit class which allowed them to have a better understanding of topics such as; proportion and simultaneous equations.
• I was involved in the development of curriculum for Level 3 which included resources used for a specific outcome, ICT and web resources. This also included identifying the objectives of specific outcomes.

Tutoring Approach:

I have three approaches to tutoring which are flexible on the students' requirements which I have outlined as follows:
Approach 1: I tutor the syllabus to the student, topic by topic, and provide a lot of practice with plenty of exercise questions.
Approach 2: I work through questions that the student has.

Personal Description:
I'm a recent maths graduate from Cambridge, with a real passion for conveying concepts in unique ways. I first starting tutoring when I was in school, and quickly learnt how challenging, yet satisfying it could be, to break ideas down into their most simplest forms. I'm tutoring over the next few months for all school level maths (up to A-level maths and further maths, and even STEP maths) and look forward to working with you!

Teaching Experience:

I've tutored many students both GCSE and A-level Maths (Modules C1-4, FP1-3, M1-3 and S1-2) over the last few years, and really enjoy it! Most of these students went on to achieve A* grades, but I taylor each lesson to suit each individual student.

Tutoring Approach:

It's impossible to explain my approach to tutoring here as it varies hugely for each student - if for example the student is familiar with the topic but wants extra practice, I start with a few questions to ascertain his/her level, and then cement it with further teaching, trying to explain any unfamiliar concepts in several different ways. If a topic is new however, I will try to build it up from previously-seen ideas, to give a motivated approach to the subject and it's uses. My first lesson is always half price, so that you can see whether you like my tutoring style in 1 lesson before continuing.

Personal Description:
I am a University of Liverpool graduate. Having decided to teach I trained at the University of Birmingham completing a Mathematics Subject Knowledge Enhancement year followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Education. I enjoy my job and love seeing pupils realise and achieve their potential.

Teaching Experience:

Since qualifying university I have since had two years experience teaching at an Outstanding school in Merseyside, teaching a range of 11-18 year olds. My pupils have achieved excellent results, especially those targeting A and A* grades.

Tutoring Approach:

The approach I take towards tutoring is a focus on defining on the needs of the tutee. Few students are afforded the opportunity to have one on one time with a classroom teacher in their specialist subject and if specific areas are identified and worked on the benefits are huge.

Personal Description:
Currently, I am a Lecturer at London Metropolitan University in Chemistry (Bachelor level) and Visitor research scientist follow at The Open University. I am a PhD degree (Full-time study) holder in Chemistry from The Open University and Master's and Bachelor degrees in Chemistry from Bordeaux 1 University, France. I have been a tutor in Chemistry, Maths, Physics, French and Arabic with different agencies in London.
I am able to teach Chemistry for all level and Maths, Physics, French and Arabic for GCSE or National 3-5 and Secondary (11 to 14 years) students.

Teaching Experience:

I have taken every opportunity to develop my teaching skills while working at London Metropolitan University and The Open University. These include chemistry laboratory teaching, mentoring and training of both undergraduate and postgraduate students. I have also participated in various educational projects in other universities. For example, at the University of Bordeaux I, Science and Technology in France,

I strive to vary my teaching style to meet the learning needs of individual students. I have received high performance reviews for my ability to creatively make complex topics manageable. I am patient creative organized and
energetic.
Schools and universities focus on conveying a large amount of information to their students. But for most people that is not enough to create genuine understanding and an ability to answer exam questions. That is why many students, regardless of their ability, seek to get extra help from a private tutor.

My aim as a tutor is to create in my students a deep understanding and confidence in answering exam questions and being able to tackle new and unfamiliar problems. My philosophy is based on the idea that learning happens in an environment of mutual respect in which the student is encouraged to think and make new connections for themselves. My experience has been that one-to-one personal tuition has a unique value to students because of the ability to resolve the students' personal barriers to learning in a way that lays the foundations for a deep and lasting understanding of the subject.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach varies depending on the student's needs and learning style. However my teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world examples wherever possible. I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and examples to check understanding continually. I don't lecture to students or ask them to memorise things. Nor do I do the students' homework for them!

I usually focus on exam-style or past paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect the student's understanding and technique. I also give a lot of emphasis to some of the less obvious but vital skills such as essay structure and technique, logical thought, and the effective use of numbers and graphs.

I believe passionately in the huge value of tutoring to students and take great satisfaction in seeing my students achieve their full potential.

Tutoring Approach:

I enjoy teaching English and I try to make sure that my lessons are fun and creative, but also based around my students' needs. We will discuss your learning goals, English level, how to improve your English outside the classroom, and of course how much homework you want to have.

In my lessons I use a mixture of materials from current textbooks, my own materials, authentic materials from the real world and more.
