Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified Modern Foreign Languages, EFL and ESOL teacher. I have lived and worked in Germany (for four years in Munich and Augsburg doing aupairing, shop and office work), in Spain (teaching English for four years in Barcelona, Feuerteventura and Sevilla), and England (doing administrative work and teaching, the latter for over 15 years).

I enjoy meeting people of other nationalities and exchanging ideas about different cultures and experiences. In my free time I enjoy taking part in conversation groups in Spanish, German and English, the latter with people of a variety of cultural backgrounds. I also enjoy watching European films and TV programmes both in the languages I know and in ones that I do not. In my quiet time I enjoy reading novels both in English and in Spanish and German. In the future I would like to learn Italian!

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as an EFL teacher since 1994 - teaching both abroad and in England to multi-lingual and monolingual classes. In Spain I taught children from 5 years old and businessmen in company, while in England I have taught children from 12 years old at residential summer schools and adults from 17 to 75 years of age in term time. I have also had some experience in teaching both German and Spanish at secondary schools.

I am currently teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) at an FE college in Nottingham. I teach general English with classes in grammar, vocabulary and the four language skills. I also teach Study Skills, Academic English (EAP) and prepare students for IELTS examinations.

I am also experienced in preparing ESOL students for exams from Entry 1 to Level 1 and CAE. In addition, I have taught EAP (Academic English) to pre-sessional students at university.I have taught Spanish, German and English classes to adults and children; the latter to both overseas and British students.

I have given private tuition to adults and children in Spanish, German and EFL. I have also assisted school children with their reading and writing.

Tutoring Approach:

I like small group teaching which allows students to interact with each other but am equally happy to teach on a one-to-one basis. I believe in student centred, active, task based learning.

I am happy to teach in my home or travel to the clients house (for which there would be an additional charge to cover travel costs).

Personal Description:
APPOINTMENT SLOTS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE (as of March 2015):
Friday 7pm onwards and holiday times.

As a student, little came easy for me.

I learned the hard way.

Now, with over 20 years of teaching experience in a variety of institutions - from Oxbridge entrance to comprehensives on 'Special Measures' - I am young enough to remember my struggles and old enough to know better.

I know how to bridge that gap for my tutees.

Teaching Experience:

This is my sixth year as a full-time tutor, but I was a secondary school teacher for 19 years before that.

I have experienced many types of academic performance from high-performing grammar schools to comprehensives on 'special measures'. I have held a variety of positions of responsibility within schools, particularly in the pastoral system such as Head of Year. I have been a grade-A examiner for AQA GCSE Geography.

During the last six years of 11 Plus entrance, including September 2014, 15 out of my 25 students have passed. I have also successfully helped one parent and child through the appeals procedure for grammar selection. Furthermore, a 12 Plus tutee in 2011 was the only girl to pass and get a place at South Wilts. Two out of three 12+ and 13+ tutees I have taught have passed their exams.

I have taught numerous syllabi: in the last six years I have tutored AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC at A level Geography. Indeed, I taught the whole of the A2 Edexcel Geogaphy syllabus online to one a tutee in Moscow: he has now gained a place at Aston University. I have mainly tutored the AQA and Edexcel syllabi for GCSE Maths. It would be fair to say that the overwhelming majority of my A level tutees experience significant gains and regularly obtain A or B grades.

At the moment (March 2015) I have 20 tutees in total: this includes 4 home-school tutees doing a variety of subjects such as GCSE Maths and Geography as well as Key Stage 3 Maths, English, History, Geography, Citizenship and RE; three GCSE English tutees; one Key Stage 3 Maths tutee; two Key Stage 3 English tutees; three 12 Plus tutees; five Key Stage 2 Maths tutees; two GCSE Maths tutee; one KS5 numeracy tutee, one A Level Geography tutee and, finally, three GCSE Geography tutees.

I would say on average, across the year, I would have between 15 and 20 tutees each week. Nearer exam time, this can creep up to 25.

Tutoring Approach:

One size does not fit all . . .

Tutoring and learning should be natural and intuitive so that tutees can 'fly' by themselves.

To make the most of tuition, a tutee must be 'on-board'. If it's their idea - even better. A tutee that is in-charge of their own learning makes an excellent pupil.

As a tutor, I decide what is right for the tutee - not an institution. Parents often want someone who is familiar with the education system but independent enough to give an honest assessment. My main concern is the welfare of the tutee - not just their academic progress - nor the reputation of some teacher or institution. If something is not right for a tutee, no matter how forceful a parent might be or how much money I might lose, I simply will not do it. Each year there are a handful of tutees I turn away because of this.

In the first session I will try to identify what it is the tutee needs, and you may wish to quiz me in more detail. I will need access to school reports and examples of the tutee's work. Through discussion with my tutee and parental input it should become clear the reason for the tutoring.

From this 'snag' list, I will design a bespoke program to meet the educational needs of the tutee. It is flexible and, unlike a classroom situation, I can respond immediately to the needs of the tutee.

Homework will always be set, depending upon the demands placed upon the tutee by the normal school week. The tutee will be far more involved with learning than in a normal school class where they can 'hide', so prospective tutees need to expect plenty of chat and discussion, reviewing work and giving feedback.

For learning to be 'on the wing', to be natural and instinctive, tutees need to work hard without feeling the burden. This can only happen through enjoyment and a lot of laughter. That's my part: helping tutees to work really hard without realising it.

If at any point I feel unable to help, I won't just prolong tuition, or if our work has met its aims then I will call a halt. The point of tuition is not to need me anymore, so they can 'fly' all by themselves.

I offer two types of 'remote' tuition options at the moment:

i/ ONLINE FACE-TO-FACE TUITION: face-to-face on Skype is very good in dealing with syllabus issues and reinforcing and filling in the holes the class teachers leave behind. Face-to-face tuition lends itself well to visual resources such as diagrams, maps and pictures. It is primarily discussion-based and the tutee needs to take notes as we go along. I regularly send tutees files to prepare them for the lesson and to discuss in the lesson. If a tutee comes to face-to-face tuition and expects to be spoon-fed or entertained, it just won't work. Extra work can be set to test their written understanding. Usually, it is enough to go through topics the student struggles with. Once they 'click' with the topic/issue, we move onto other areas. Payment for this type of tuition is a flat fee each week to cover lesson preparation and the lesson itself. The marking of substantial pieces of work outside of lesson time such as essays will incur a modest marking fee.

ii/ CORRESPONDENCE-STYLE WITH UNLIMITED EMAIL SUPPORT: work is set through powerpoints, pdf files and word documents for the student to do on their own in their own time. This should keep the tutee occupied for between 1-3 hours each week, unless more is required. It is then returned to me within the week. I mark it and provide feedback in the form of an audio file (up to 30 mins), talking them through the various issues. Any amounts of email conversations to help the student with this particular piece of work are allowed, after feedback has been given. This is very much an ongoing and open-ended commitment, once work has been set and feedback given, and the student is totally free to contact me with any issues. As a result, the payment structure is open-ended and depends on the amount of time used to prepare resources, mark and give audio feedback. This is added up at the end of each week, and the client is then billed. Follow-up emails and support are not timed but are considered as a 'free' part. Generally, this time will be from about 45-90 mins per week. I keep a track of the time minute to minute and endeavour to keep the time used as short as possible while setting about 1-3 hours of work. This is very much a trust system of working. I tailor the work individually to suit the student as opposed to an ordinary correspondence course that just covers syllabus content.

Please be aware that I do charge for travelling over 30 miles (roundtrip: 15 miles each way):
30-40 mile roundtrip - 5
41-50 mile roundtrip - 10
51-60 mile roundtrip - 15
61-70 mile roundtrip - 20

Personal Description:
I choose to study mathematics for my degree as an interests. (so is my interest for physics) After the studies, it is come to me I should share my enthusiasm to younger students as well. Private tutoring as a part time job is a good point to start, with the help from me, I hope students to find the subjects more interesting rather than a dull subject to part in the school.

Teaching Experience:

Qualification-wise, I've got A for Mathematics & Physics at A-Level, obtained MA Mathematics (Hons) from Edinburgh University and MSc Mathematics from King's College London.
Experience-wise, I've become a private tutor for three years now and I had taught over 200 students. The subject include mathematics, physics and mandarin. Range from KS3 to degree level.
Dec 2012 - Feb 2013: Teaching Assistant at Lister Community School
Oct 2014 - Jun 2015: Maths & Mandarin Tutor at Greig City Academy

Tutoring Approach:

For the mathematics and physics teaching, I believe the conceptional understanding is much more important than memorize the method. Once the concept has been absorbed, the method of solving problem become rather trivial. Of course to maximize the efficiency of learning, an interests in the subject is essential. Hence I'd like to increase the students engagement by given information on more practical use of the knowledge or more news on advanced study.

Note: for people asking for university level maths. I will ask lecture notes or at least syllabus. Though undergraduate maths is taught at similar level, there are variation for each modules due to each lecturers' style. Just list a module name hardly tells what topics are required to study. Lecture notes are used to see the way that particular lecture taught, otherwise give me a syllabus I shall use my own lecture notes.

Personal Description:
Hi! My name is Mark and I have lived in Belfast for 20 years. I have always loved mathematics, and loved learning more about it. I hope to pass on my enthusiasm for the subject to you and help you maximise your potential. If you're coming up to major exams, I can help you get the best grade possible for you!

Teaching Experience:

I have lectured in Queen's University for 10 years, and have been teaching others mathematics for longer. My private students have done well with my support, and I can bring the best out of you too.

Tutoring Approach:

For some people maths is easy and enjoyable - you just need help sharpening up your examination skills and revising in a new way to get a top grade.

For other people maths is a challenge - you get the general idea but need help understanding some principles, and certainly need to practice in order to get the grade you deserve.

I have worked with both types of people for years, and I can work with you! I offer one-to-one tutorial sessions, in my home or yours, backed up by email and telephone support where needed.

Personal Description:
I'm a 26 year old Mathematics graduate from Bristol University. I spent my 3rd year abroad, studying maths on a French island off the east coast of Africa, and becoming fluent in French.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching all abilities and ages, and a good track record of results, with pupils always attaining or surpassing their targets.

Tutoring Approach:

In sessions I generally stick quite closely to the course, revisiting the school lessons and homework to target weak areas, whilst also working on a more thorough general understanding. When possible I let the tutee lead the session, so that they get the help they actually need, usually asking a few quick questions on any material skipped over to check for problems, but my teaching methods vary to suit my tutees.

Personal Description:
I am a mature Scottish Chartered Teacher who qualified initially in 1994. I received the Chartered Teacher from the general teaching council for Scotland in 2010. I have experience of tutoring students from 2006 and I am very enthusiastic in my work. I do not watch the clock and will prepare lessons to meet the needs of the student. I gained a M.A.Ed.(Special Needs) in 2005 and have found it invaluable in identifying and overcoming barriers to learning.Presently I have a wide range of students including those with Dyslexia and Aspergers. I also tutor for a family who home xchool their childrens.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutor children and young adults from upper primary to the senior stage in Secondary. I have no preference for the stage, it is the teaching experience I enjoy.

Tutoring Approach:

I adopt a very pupil centred approach to teaching. All children are different and it is your child's needs I must meet. Some students like to work on homework others on specific parts of the course. There is no general case to consider. I will use an approach to teaching which suits the student.

Personal Description:
I am a relaxed and easy-going person but very enthusiastic about my subjects: Drama, English and R.E. I have a Master's Degree in Drama education from Warwick University and am now a professional actor. My Bachelor's degree is in Drama and Theology from Surrey University.

I can teach all levels in these subjects but specialise in teaching over-18s

If you live in West/Southwest/Central London then I am happy to travel to tutor at your home. I am willing to consider travelling further if required.

Teaching Experience:

Since 1990 I have been teaching English, Drama and R.E to a wide range of age groups from 7 to 18, with excellent results in public examinations. I have also tutored adults in these subjects at GCSE and A Level, and for university/O.U./higher education assignments.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very aware that an adult's educational needs differ from those of the child's, and my approach is directed towards making the adult learner and the university student comfortable in the learning environment. Whether providing in-depth teaching from the basics onwards, or support for existing course assignments and projects I provide sensitive and thorough support. There are no prejudices or expectations about what a student should know, and each person is valued whatever their knowledge, level or ability.

Personal Description:
I am currently studying my second year of A-Levels at The Liverpool Blue Coat School. I thoroughly enjoy working with children and believe I have a friendly, approaching personality which makes me able to communicate with children of all ages. In my free time I enjoy playing hockey and attend Ancient Greek lessons. In the future I aim to study maths at university.

Teaching Experience:

In recent years, I have delivered a maths lesson to a year 8 class, which proved to be very enjoyable for both the students and I. I deliver weekly lessons to year 7s at Blue Coat and I am currently tutoring year 11 latin students in preparation for their latin GCSE. As well as this, I have a younger sister who I regularly help with homework. I am also currently tutoring several students.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the key to success for anything in life is
1) to have the necessary knowledge
2) to know your own personal weaknesses and also knowing how to go about fixing them
3) to have self-belief and confidence about whether you can succeed
I am here to provide a positive environment for students so that no question is a stupid question and to help students achieve their very best potential. Unfortunately in schools nowadays, teachers may not have the time to check that every single individual student understands everything they have been taught so I am able to teach and revise 'fuzzy' areas so that students feel both confident walking into an exam and knowing they have tried their very best to reach their potential. The most rewarding thing about being a tutor is seeing students' self-satisfaction and personal development.

Tutoring Approach:

Personal Description:
I am a Chinese student who is finishing my MA degree in HR Management in the University of Leeds, and working in Manchester during the weekdays.

I am a very patient and reliable person who enjoys studying with children and teenagers. Except English and Mandarin, I also speak Cantonese. Besides, I am familiar with both the English and Chinese grammar, which is also helpful for writing.

I would like to not only be the tutor but also the friend for you. I look forward to meet you and help you to improve the mandarin studying!
