Personal Description:
Hello,

I am Alfiya. I am a professional, qualified and experienced tutor in individual and group Russian teaching. I have been in Edinburgh for almost 11 years and have been a tutor in Russian, freelance interpreter and translator for all this time. During my tutoring career I have assisted almost 250 learners with teaching Russian. I like communicating and meeting new people. I'm friendly, easy-going, open, quick-minded. In my free time I like reading, learning about different cultures, going in for sport, socialising.

Teaching Experience:

I graduated from Irkutsk State Linguistic University in Russia in 1996. Had been teaching English for Russian students and Russian for foreign students at Kazan State University for 15 years (Russia). My specialities are: Russian from Elementary to Advanced.

In 1999 I studied at the Open Society Institute-Samara where I attended Soros Intensive Teacher Training Course for University Instructors in Samara Russia. In 2000 I finished the course in 'Improvement of Professional Skills on Teaching Methodology of Foreign Languages' at Kazan State University in Russia. In 2005 I attended the Conversational Spanish course in Spanish Centre of Education and Culture at Kazan State University. Back to Russia I worked as a senoir lecturer in English and Russian at Kazan State University. I participated as a tutor in English in the Presidential Programme of Russia by giving lectures on Business English for top managers, directors of companies and firms and businessmen to take part in international business as Russia opened up to worldwide and free trade. 10 of my former students went onto internships in Greece, Italy, Denmark, Germany and Japan after finishing this programme. I am the author of four scientific publications in the field of linguistic relations in Russian, English and Tatar.

While living in the UK I have worked as a freelance tutor and translator for Scottish&Newcastle, Scottish Parliament, NHS and Rudolf Steiner School. I am really proud of the fact that among my students are people of different ages, knowledge of Russian and purposes of learning it and who are professionals in different fields for example in language and science teaching, sales and marketing, medical research, social work, to name just a few.

I have completed successfully the HNC and HND Tourism course at Edinburgh college.

Tutoring Approach:

Always try to make students interested in the subject I teach. Create a ftiendly and an encouraging learning environment. Not afraid to praise them even if they do not get immediate good results. Tend to get feedback from them. Plan carefully each lesson. Use the Internet and PC in preparing for lessons. Try to make lessons interesting, various by combining different aspects of learning a language: Grammar, Vocabulary, Listening, Speaking, Writing and Reading. Each course that you will attend is tailored to your needs and depends on your level of knowing Russian and your purpose of learning. I teach Russian through the Skype system as well. Each month organise Russian Converstaion Club for my students to help them learn some more about Russia apart from lessons. We discuss various topics in Russian (the topic of each session is given in advance), do different activities based on the theme of the session. The aim of Russian Conversation Club is to improve Russian conversational skills of my students and help them learn more about Russian culture and history.

Personal Description:
Hi, I am Olga. I have been a professional musician since 1986 (BMus, CT ABRSM, Dip ABRSM) as well as an interpreter (completed DPSI course in 2009 - Diploma in Public Service Interpreting, Local Government). I am tri-lingual, fluent in Russian, English and Lithuanian. Over the years I have developed and honed many important skills, such as patience, reliability & diligence. These, coupled with my single minded determination to succeed in everything I attempt, have provided me with what I believe are the necessary skills to be an excellent teacher.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching since 1986. I have always enjoyed teaching students of all ages/level and abilities.
I regularly work for local government, i.e. the NHS, schools, social services etc) as an interpreter. This experience is very useful in equipping me to be able to ensure that my language students develop an extremely rounded vocabulary.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is that it has to first and foremost be FUN! I feel that my students learn more readily when they are enjoying themselves. Personal Description:
Let me introduce myself. I'm Anna, I'm Italian, and I'm the teacher you are looking for!

I am passionate about teaching Classical Studies (Latin and Ancient Greek), as well as Italian; I have extensive teaching experience with beginning to advanced students of all ages. I hold a Bachelor and a Master's degree in Classical Studies from the University of Palermo (Italy).

Teaching Experience:

I have 8 years of experience in teaching grammar and literature (Italian, Ancient Greek and Latin), to individual students, and to small groups of students in private and public schools.

I've also worked as a City Lit Latin Tutor: teaching Latin Grammar rules, ligatures, word divisions and accents. Reading correctly any kind of Roman inscription, discerning the subject of the inscription (public, commemorative, religious, etc.). Assessment, marking, report writing and translation from Latin to English.

More specifically, I have experience in teaching students at a wide range of levels including GCSE, A-Level, and University, as well as preparing students for university entrance examinations. Furthermore, I enjoy working with children (6-13 years olds).

Tutoring Approach:

I'm approachable and very patient. I strive to make my lessons as enjoyable as possible and to create a comfortable atmosphere. I think that every student is unique, so I always try to find the best approach for everyone, using intuitive and yet humorous examples as much as possible.
I believe that the best way to teach is to make the subject interesting to the student and to pass on my passion.

Personal Description:
I am a certificated Senior Chinese Language Teacher with IPA Certification. I have taught adult individual students as well as children in groups. I have lived in Beijing, Tianjing, Xi'an and Shenzhen and am well travelled throughout the rest of China. It would be a plus to choose me if you are interested in Chinese architecture, gardens, business culture, or different kinds of Chinese food, as well as Chinese calligraphy. I have lived or travelled in many countries in Europe, America, Africa, Asian and Oceania. So, with my international background, I am comfortable with a diverse range of people.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught adult individual students, individual children and children in group. One of my adult student is an university researcher. I have taught him spoken and written Chinese for several years. My children students liked my class very much. Sometime, I taught language together with sports for children.

Currently, I am teaching in a community school in Manchester. My students are 12~13 years old, a group of 24 boys and girls. They like the Chinese language class and asked many questions about Chinese language and culture. Every weekend, I teach a 7-year old girl and her father at the same time. They are learning Mandarin listening and speaking. I really enjoy teaching them all.

Tutoring Approach:

I taught Chinese language in different ways according to my student's needs. I would like to know my student's language aims and time he or she will have to spend before we start to work together. I taught my university researcher student with listening, speaking, reading and writing all together, from begining. For another student, I taught her spoken language through discusing daily life and Chinese cultural topics she was interested in. Sometimes, I taught my children students Chinese language through yoga postures and games, which they liked very much.

Personal Description:
I am passionate about helping people and inspiring them, and I really enjoy meeting people from all over the world and helping them to improve their English and gain confidence. I am friendly and approachable, and have a calm and patient teaching manner. I strive for personal integrity and professionalism.

I really enjoy learning languages myself - I speak French and Spanish and I am keen to learn more languages. I love travelling and have visited many countries. I lived in South America for a short time. I really like learning about different cultures and people!

English is my native language.

Teaching Experience:

I have 12 years experience of teaching English. I have taught in London, New Zealand and Argentina. I have taught general English and business English, and the exams I have taught are IELTS and CAE.

I taught a student in Japan on Skype for two years, so I have a lot of experience teaching online.

I love teaching beginners - if you are a beginner or if you have a friend or family member who is a beginner then please contact me!

Most of my students have been pre-intermediate to intermediate level, but I have taught all levels from beginners to advanced.

Tutoring Approach:

First of all I will find out from you in a free consultation exactly what you want help with and what your goals are for studying English with me. Then I will plan our lessons according to your English needs. Usually in a normal lesson we will have conversation and speaking practise and I will give you plenty of opportunity to speak and practise your English, then I will give you feedback and go through your mistakes with you. I will also teach you new vocabulary and then we will practise this in speaking activities. However, if you are really confident in speaking English and want to practise other skills such as reading then we will do this instead. Usually I teach lessons that incorporate speaking, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading and grammar. I think homework is very important so I will also set you homework to do in your own time.

Writing: if you would like me to correct your writing (for example you send it to me, I mark it and send it back), my fee for this is 14 per hour, plus Paypal fees.

Personal Description:
My name is Celeste and I am 21 years old. I am based in Fulham and currently completing the final year of my economics degree at Brunel University. I am originally from the South Coast of England (near Brighton) but I have been living in London since 2014.

Throughout my education, I have achieved top grades in Maths, English, Economics and Business. Furthermore, as I am still a student, I am extremely up to date with the curriculum and exam boards. More importantly, my students are able to relate to me and look up to me as a role-model as well as just a tutor.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring younger students since I was 14 years old. Whilst studying for my A levels, I returned to my secondary school as a volunteer and held weekly revision sessions to help students prepare for their GCSE exams. More recently, I have been tutoring A level students in maths, economics and business studies as well as guiding many GCSE students through their core-subject studies. I also hold group lessons for GCSE students as this is a very cost effective and fun method of study.

I am extremely proud of my students this term as all twenty of them are now reaching or surpassing their target grades before we have even hit the exam period.

References are available on request.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to make study fun! I am not yet a qualified teacher, but I can relate to students because I am so close to their age - it was not that long ago that I was studying for my own GCSEs and A Levels. My tutoring style would depend on the ability of the student. For beginners, I would work through their textbook with them, teaching theories and methods whilst completing exercises to cement the knowledge. I have found that using visual aids, such as coloured diagrams and simple "cheat sheets" is very beneficial so I would help the student to create this to use in their own revision.

For more advanced students who may just need to revise for exams, I will help them to complete past papers, giving them tips on good exam technique and how to collect all available marks in the most efficient way.
