Personal Description:
I am a French native, qualified language teacher working as a Head of Department in a reputable independent school in Moor Park. I have a genuine enthusiasm for languages and for language education as I have had experience of teaching French in various contexts and countries.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught across Key Stages 2, 3, 4, 5 within several secondary schools in London. I also have the opportunity to teach pupils with Special Educational Needs as well as gifted ones and I am therefore aware of their need for differentiation through support and extension activities provided when delivering lessons.
Finally, I teach French to adults and I believe that helping them to learn my language is extremely rewarding, whether they are great beginners or fluent speakers.

Tutoring Approach:

I have specialised in one-to-one support and exam preparation (A-levels, GCSEs, Common Entrance, 13+ etc.) with tailored programmes to meet the individual needs as well as a creative teaching style. In my teaching, I always transfer to my students my own enthusiasm for languages and try to enhance their motivation and enjoyment of language learning. I set my students high standards for work and have received positive feedback from pupils and peers.

Personal Description:
I am currently undertaking a funded History PhD at King's College London.

I hold a Masters in Renaissance and Early Modern Studies for which I was awarded a distinction and full funding as well as a BA Hons (First Class) in history and politics from the University of York. Given this, and my A Level subjects, I can offer private tuition in history, politics, geography and law, in preparation for GCSE, AS and A level exams. I am an organised, committed, reliable and enthusiastic individual who enjoys working with children and young adults, helping them to develop their understanding and interest in a variety of subjects.

I have tutored for a number of years, and have helped those I tutor to significantly improve their exam results and grades, often taking them from C and D level grades up to high As and Bs. My most recent tutee, who I tutored in GCSE Geography and History, acheived an A* in both subjects and came top of his year at school for his GCSE grades.

I am also happy to offer any help I can with university applications.

In the lead up to the exam period I can provide intensive revision sessions and/ or revision guides for any of the subjects listed below.

References can be provided upon request.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored since 2007, and have helped those I tutor to significantly improve their exam results and grades, often taking them from C and D level grades up to high As and Bs.

For several years I have undertaken a variety of volunteer projects, working within schools/ educational environments and with children :- this has included working at the University of York, Barley Hall (York), Westminster Palace and the Tower of London. Whilst working in these environments, I conducted a range of independent historical research projects. I then planned educational sessions based on these materials, which I then delivered to school children of various ages and abilities. It was necessary to ensure that the material collected was not only historically accurate but also easy to understand and enjoyable to learn about, helping the children to develop an interest in different periods of history.

Tutoring Approach:

Whilst tutoring I would pay particular attention to the needs of each student, and tailor their study courses to best meet their needs and wishes. My approach to tutoring emphasises clarity, flexibility, and an enthusiasm for learning, within an informal and relaxed yet structured and interactive environment. I would encourage students to think imaginatively and challenge themselves academically, encouraging debate and broadening their horizons. This would not only help to improve a child's examination technique but also their academic development.

In the lead up to the exam period I can provide intensive revision sessions and/ or revision guides for any of the subjects listed below.

Personal Description:
I have a life-long love of English in general and of Shakespeare in particular, and have always enjoyed communicating that enthusiasm to other people, helping them to develop understanding, confidence, appreciation and a love of language. I have an MA degree in English from Cambridge University and am an IGCSE examiner for the Cambridge International Examinations Board.

My early background in retail management, several years at director level in international advertising, then thirty years as a teacher, with theatre running as a constant thread throughout my life, all combine to make me a particularly effective communicator.

As well as offering private tuition, I also run school drama workshops, direct plays, and work as a freelance writer/editor and voice-over. I have been involved in over fifty theatrical productions - acting or directing - as well as giving regular readings and public presentations.

Having lived and worked professionally for several years in France, I am fluent in French and can offer coaching in French literature and language.

"Simon is the complete professional, directing and managing large-scale productions, nurturing emerging talent, and running a very successful education programme, as well as being an inspirational teacher himself." (Arnold D. - former colleague)

PLEASE NOTE: I am now largely unavailable until mid-July 2017 but do get in touch in case we can discuss possibilities.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a Head of English and Drama at independent schools for over twenty-five years, and am regarded as a charismatic and inspirational teacher. I have many years' experience of Drama in general and Shakespeare in particular on and off stage (studying, teaching, acting and directing).

"Every pupil has selective memories of their teachers. Every past pupil I ever meet selects Simon as their most memorable teacher. They remember his effervescence in the classroom, his delight in their achievements and his encyclopaedic knowledge of Shakespeare." (Tim R. - colleague since 1987)

"Simon was simply a brilliant Head of Department, being that rare combination of high academic and able, articulate communicator. His subject knowledge is unmatched in all my teaching experience, especially of Shakespeare's works, and his inspired teaching produced enthusiastic, successful pupils during his twenty years." (Kay C. - colleague since 1998)

Tutoring Approach:

Need to gain more confidence with spoken or written language? Find Shakespeare hard to cope with, or poetry difficult to understand? Wish to develop your creative writing ability? Need to practise interview technique and improve presentation skills?

I can help. I give coaching in drama, literary analysis and practical criticism, particularly of poetry, and I specialise in teaching Shakespeare. In addition, my earlier background in advertising and marketing is particularly useful in helping students develop their interview technique and presentation skills.

If distance is a problem, I am happy to offer on-line tuition, such as via Skype.

(For adults wishing to learn more about Shakespeare or to understand and appreciate poetic technique, I am happy to undertake small groups - please enquire about special rates.)

"Simon is an inspirational teacher of English Language, Literature and of Drama. His ability to engage and motivate pupils is of the highest order as is his pursuit of excellence in all that he does, both within the classroom situation and in workshops. All of this is well reflected in the results he has achieved, in particular with both academic English and Drama scholarship candidates over his years in post." (Dr Gerry H.)

Personal Description:
As a British Chinese, I spent my childhood in China until I was 11 when my family moved to London. I found the pace of study of mathematics at my state school to be too slow for my curiosity. From the age of 12, I self-taught mathematics until university. During this period, I completed my GCSE maths with A* at the age of 12, A-level maths at 14 with a score of 599/600, A-level further maths at 16. For A-level studies, I completed 7 A-levels (Maths, Further Maths, Music, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Business Studies) and AS-level in ICT, all at my inner city state school. I went on to study Mathematics at Imperial College, graduated with first class honours and my final year exam results ranked first in my year - it is something I aim to teach my students.

I worked for a number of years for a finance firm in the City of London. At the same time, I have been tutoring since I was 18. My tutoring spread through recommendations, and I still have a number of long term tutees. I have always found tutoring to be most satisfying and fulfilling, especially when I witness students' progress from bafflement to appreciation, and eventually achieving their aspirations. Now I have decided to become a dedicated full time professional tutor, and has been doing so for last three years.

Teaching Experience:

I have done a great deal of one-to-one maths tuitions, more than 60 students over the last ten years and more than 5000 hours. Almost all the tuition is in mathematics, although sometimes I also help with sciences at the same time. Most of my previous students have been introduced to me by way of recommendation, a few found me from uktutors site, I have not had the need to advertise else where. I have tutored maths at GCSE, A-level, and also tutored Further Maths. All my students have done very well in their maths exams, so far all A's and A*'s, they have had offers and gone to top universities, including: Oxford, UCL, KCL, Warwick, Cardiff.

Past student / parents references are available upon request, in fact most of them would be happy to speak to you. And I will forward as many references as you reasonably require. I also have a long list of previous student highlights, too long to put here, but available upon request.

New from this academic year 2015, I also offer grade A guarantee for A level maths, with reimbursement if the guarantee is not met. I take pride and responsibility for my student's grades! Probably more than they do!

My teaching experience started from myself, as I self-taught maths until university. In order to master my subject by myself, I read many text books and assimilate the best ideas and methods of each. In the end, I summarized the best methods, which are often starkly intuitive and widely applicable. With these unique methods, a focus on deep intuitions and my own enthusiasm, the passion I have for maths is often transferred to my tutees. I am also of the philosophy that if a topic does not feel easy for a tutee, then that is my problem, not theirs. Then I would strive to find a better way to allow my tutees to understand the topic as I do, and feel as easy as I do.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring approach is one of efficiency and clarity. Efficiency and clarity means that I will be able to cover a vast amount of material in a short period of time, while not sacrificing clarity and understanding for my pupils. Students are required to learn most of the methods available for any topic. Where possible, I will emphasize the why something works the way it does as well as how to use it. All these are to help pupils to develop a deep understanding and appreciation for the subject, as well as best equip them for exams. All these can still be achieved efficiently and at speed! My pupils are usually surprised at how much we can cover and how well they can understand something at such speed. The efficiency and clarity can be achieved because I make it my goal to deliver the clearest ideas to my students as efficiently as possible. This is what I spend time doing when I am not tutoring. Along the way my students will benefit from many new ways of thinking on many topics which are not found on text books or anywhere else, which give them an edge in exams. Final note, I usually cover everything, and in advance, which will allow the student to have school lessons as revision class.

In addition, when I take someone on, it is naturally my goal to help motivate them along the way. If a tutee isn't doing enough work, I will take an active role to encourage and motivate the student to work harder. To me it is all part of what I do, if the thing that is stopping a student achieving is their habits or time management, then I will help them deal with it too.

Finally, I place great importance in maintaining a positive relationship with the tutees. Before any tuition start, we would have an informal chat with parents and student to establish how the student would like me to help him or her. It is most important that the student understand that I am here to help them achieve their goals, not that of the parents goals. This will allow us to start from a good basis to form a positive relationship in order to help the student.

Final notes:
1) I am currently developing a video A-level course, which is the best version of myself in videos! Contact me if you wish to know more, rates are significantly reduced. Homework will still be marked by me, and follow on discussions are done through Skype. Contact me for more information.
2) Further Maths A2 modules are charged at £60 per hour - this website does not allow me to state it.
3) If it is required that I travel to you, this is charged at £40 per hour pro rata. (Not available this academic year, I am pretty full.)
4) There will be weekend availability from next academic year as things stand, contact me to place a deposit to take a time slot for next academic year.

Personal Description:
Specialist maths tuition - I have 17 years of teaching experience across the primary age range and have worked in both the independent and state sectors. For the last 6 years I have worked as lead mathematics intervention teacher, having trained in the Numbers Count programme from Edge Hill University and coordinated and delivered interventions to children from Year 1-6 as well as teaching sets in KS2. All my work has been very successful in helping children close the gaps on their peers and achieve age related expectations. More recently I have also set up a mathematics consultancy focussed on training teachers and helping children to gain a clear understanding of maths and maximising attainment and enjoyment of the subject.
I have lots of tutoring experience over 17 years, both for general numeracy and literacy support as well as entrance exam coaching but my speciality is certainly in maths coaching where I feel I can offer an outstanding service in supporting children who struggle.

Teaching Experience:

17 years as class teacher in Foundation stage, Y1 and Y2 followed by work with children from across the whole school (y1-6) and most recently in KS2 teaching the least able children in maths and achieving above average results. This year my school was in the top 5% nationwide for end of KS2 achievement.

Tutoring Approach:

I am friendly and approachable and have always maintained good relationships with the children I have worked with. I make lessons fun and try hard to support and complement the work they do at school to ensure continuity and progression. I am very much focussed on supporting learning in a practical and memorable way.

Personal Description:
I have recently finished a BA Degree in English Literature and Language at the University of Oxford where I recieved a 2.1 degree. I did my A-Levels at Greenhead College in Huddersfield, which was voted number 1 sixth-form of the year by The Times, and I achieved A* A* A A. My focus is mainly English, maths and history for all ages up to A-Level standard, but I also offer Study Skills advice and tuition for the 11-Plus and the Oxford English admissions test, the ELAT. I am calm and polite, unpretentious and enthusiastic, consistent and professional in behaviour, but always friendly and never clinical.

Teaching Experience:

I have roughly 4 years of tutoring experience and have worked with ages ranging from 10 to 40 on various different areas of Maths, English and History.

Tutoring Approach:

I understand the value of your education and the importance of a personalised approach to learning. I advocate a focused, disciplined education, but understand how to motivate younger, or less mature tutees. I know my fields well and keep up to date in current advances - anything I need to learn, I will, swiftly and with pleasure. I am perceptive, able to quickly and effectively identify how a tutee learns best. Having recently left education myself, I can sympathise with those currently part of it. This, I believe, is a huge advantage - as one recently taught, I know what is an effective, modern way of teaching. Above all, I simply enjoy the rewards of good tutoring: watching a tutee grow and thrive. In few other professions is such a reward possible, and this, ultimately, is why I am so dedicated to spending every second required to make your tutoring a success.

Personal Description:
My name is María. I´m a enthusiastic and motivated teacher willing to help you to learn everything you want to know about Spanish language and culture. I believe in a practice-based learning. I think every language is alive and we shouldn't learn it as a dead theory.

Teaching Experience:

I'm a qualified teacher with a Spanish-teaching title recognized by University of Barcelona and International House World Organization. I also have a Masters in teaching secondary and languages education (PGCE) and a Bachelors in Fine Arts. I have experience working in secondary schools and adult education in the UK.

I think Art and Language are very close to each other, both of them play an important roll in the world's communication system and in the development of society. Art&Language are pure culture and a very important thing in the development of children too.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that teaching Spanish is much more than teaching a bunch of grammar rules, it's teaching our art, gastronomy, our understanding of life… in short, our culture.

I use a communicative approach to the language, so grammar is always in context and at the service of real communication skills.

I focus on the objectives and needs of each student or small group. In the first lesson I will give you a level test and a content negotiation where you can tell me what grammar and cultural topics you are more interested in and how you prefer to learn them. You are the protagonist of your own education!

To teach in the best possible way I use a wide range of activities that I prepare to fit you.

I'm a professional musician living and working in and around Caernarfon.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught for more than 5 years, both piano and guitar to a wide range of students.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to give students not only the technical ability to play music but also the understanding of what they're playing through moderate and relevant music theory. In my experience this brings a higher appreciation of music and even if you're not to become a professional musician you will still highly benefit from my lessons not only by learning a specific instrument but also through broadening your musical culture.

Personal Description:
I am Philosophy Graduate with a passion for ideas and critical thinking. I have written articles for a variety of blogs and delivered lectures to an academic audience.

In the past I have also worked in as a freelance musician and an IT technician.

Everything I do is influenced by my passion for ideas and my desire to convey them to others, a conscientious work ethic and lively sense of humour.

Teaching Experience:

Although this is my first foray into academic tutoring, I have previously taught Judo at senior and junior levels. In addition, I have been responsible for helping people improve their IT skills when I worked for The Department For Work and Pensions.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to meet every individual where they are in their journey of learning, rather than impose preconceived ideas on them. I try and find out how each student learns and in light of this tailor my teaching to fit them.

I always try to keep things fun and interesting as people achieve more when they are engaged an excited. I avoid pointless jargon and needless technicality.

Personal Description:
I am a recent Imperial College, London graduate with 8 years of tutoring experience. I have helped many students prosper in terms of education and personal development, and I appreciate the immeasurable impact tutoring has on the performance and development of their school lives.

Tutoring was initially just a rewarding experience for me however, it has now evolved into a passion. My main subject is Maths (up to A Level, incl Further Maths :C1-C4, M1-M3,S1,S2, FP1-3)

..

Teaching Experience:

I have more than 8 years experience in teaching Mathematics for Secondary to University level.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer discounted introductory sessions to new students, where we have the opportunity to introduce ourselves and become familiar with one another. This allows my students to open up to me and share their strengths and weaknesses. Once I have observed their level and pace, I plan my lessons entirely based upon the individual's personal progress. My methodology during the sessions consists of an interactive whiteboard, which I believe is very engaging for me and my students

Personal Description:
I am a native English/Spanish speaker, an American and Spanish dual national, born and raised in Europe. In my free time, I enjoy travelling, going to the cinema or relaxing with a nice cup of coffee and a good book.

Teaching Experience:

I have dedicated the last 10 years of my career to foreign language teaching in the USA, Spain and the UK. I have taught in state and private schools with primary and secondary students as well as adults. I have also taught employees of a range of companies in the north of Spain.

Tutoring Approach:

Accustomed to learners of all ages and levels, I use the communicative method. I am a firm believer that foreign languages must be spoken and used from the beginning. My teaching focuses on all skills, speaking, listening, writing as well as the use of correct grammar. I adapt my teaching to the needs of the learner and can provide my own learning materials if necessary.
