Personal Description:
I'm Pauline, and I specialise in French and biology. It sounds an odd combination, but read on and I'll tell you more.

For French - I'm half French and am fluent in the language having started with "survival French" at the age of five to stop my cousins from persecuting me, and then studying it at both GCSE (A* grade) and A-level (A grade). I go to France regularly and enjoy reading news articles in French. For lessons, I usually mix in reading, speaking, listening and grammar, as well as some history, geography and French current affairs to bring it to life. I am also available to practice speaking French, to improve your accent. I can teach both students for exam prep and adults if you're going to France and need some help with asking for directions and a coffee/glass of wine!

For biology - I again studied at GCSE and A-level and then did three degrees in the general field of biology! My PhD was in biomechanics so I specialise in biomechanics, anatomy and physiology, muscle and exercise science and cardiovascular; but feel free to contact me and we can discuss what you need. I can even teach plant science! I have worked with GCSE and A-level students for many years and am familiar with most common exam board questions. I am happy to go through past papers for exam practice. I have most experience with AQA exam board questions but can easily adapt to other boards.

I'm patient and friendly and use a flexible approach so you learn at your speed. Having obtained my PhD, I can relate to students and the specific pressures they face. I am DBS checked and can supply references on request.

Lessons are 25 per hour per person and 40 for two hours, including travel in and around Newcastle. There will be a small charge to cover my fuel for a longer drive, but I'm happy to discuss.

I may not be the cheapest but I'm experienced, patient, friendly and flexible - I'd rather be good than cheap!

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring since 2008, working with a variety of ages and in a range of topics from French tuition to sports coaching. I have taught over 30 students, both school students and adults, and have excellent references.

Tutoring Approach:

I will work closely with you to achieve your goals, if that's to improve in the subject for its own sake, to pass an exam or even to be able to order in French at a restaurant. During the first session we'll agree on a timetable and set specific goals. We'll set aside a few minutes during each subsequent session to assess our progress. I am patient, friendly and reliable and above all I love teaching!

I have successfully completed my PGCE course (Secondary Mathematics) at Canterbury Christ Church University in 2011. Prior to this, I hold a combined degree in Pure Mathematics and Statistics. I have also been on a number of courses covering behaviour management, AFL, pace in teaching/learning and differentiation.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experiences began at Woodlands School and Seven Kings High School, as part of my PGCE training and I had the opportunity to teach across the full ability range of year 7 to 11. I also fully participated in helping pupils in the Statistics and pure Mathematics AS Level classes. I finished my most recently teaching practice at Woodlands School where I taught maths across range and the use of ICT interactive board for maths lessons. My teaching practice was encouraging because I enjoyed interacting with students at various levels. During my teaching practice, I planned my lessons to very good standard and appropriate and challenging learning objectives which include a variety of activities and assessment techniques. I have gained a lot of experience from especially the one to one and that modified my teaching of low ability classes, concentrating on breaking tasks and making lessons interesting enough to lengthen student's concentration.

Tutoring Approach:

Having had the opportunity to teach across board for this while had provided me with a wide knowledge base for my professional conduct as a teacher. I constantly upgrade my teaching methods through evaluations and feedbacks I get from pupils and sometimes through learning walks by SLTs. I am confident I have acquired a lot strategies and methodologies for teaching all topics to all years and sets. I thoroughly prepared each lesson taking into consideration previous knowledge and suitability of the time it's taught. I recorded all homework and some important class exercise which are used to monitor children's progress and to find ways of how to address any inconsistencies. I have often liaised with parents if I needed parental support. For bottom sets, I learned the importance of the use of pictures and visual stimulus to meet pupils' learning needs. I have mastered the art of breaking up lessons into chunks to make it simpler for pupils to follow and finding straight steps pupils can easily grasp with complex topics. This has been one of my enviable achievements as it has always interested my maths colleagues. Concerning year sevens and lower forms, I learnt a lot about the importance of giving rewards in the form of stamps, commendations and stickers as motivation. Every learning has been thoroughly planned using Maths Framework Standards with levels and differentiation. For bottom sets working in partnership with support staff for SEN and EAL pupils has been very enjoyable and rewarding.
The opportunity to be a year 10 and during my last term a year 7 form tutor as well as the homework club tutor at Woodlands School had also given me a strong knowledge base on the pastoral care of students and participations in extracurricular duties.

Following the birth of my children in 2001, 2003 and 2006, I left my demanding job and got involved at first in French groups for pre-school children before starting tutoring students for French GCSE.

GRADE 1 OUTSTANDING - OFSTED
I have been the Head of Accounting since 2006, at a large Catholic Sixth Form College in Hulme, Manchester. I am 39 years old, married with 2 children, living in Didsbury, South Manchester. I gained my degree in Economics and Finance in 1998 from Leicester University. I began teaching in 2002 so have many years of experience teaching Accounting.

I offer tutition at my home, either at the weekend, or weekday evenings. However, I am usually able to offer tuition during the school/college holidays.

Teaching Experience:

I completed my PGCE at Manchester University in 2002. I only teach Accounting AS and A2 Level, and this is therefore my main specialism. I can also help students in need of tutoring on the Finance elements of the Business Studies A Level, or on Accouning/Finance elements of Business/Accounting/Finance degree courses.

I teach the AQA specification. However, I can also tutor students who are following the OCR specification.

Many tutors are not willing to advertise the results they have achieved with students. I recommend you read the section below on the results i have achieved with my A Level Accounting students.

Also, many tutors seem to offer tuition in a wide variety of subjects. Are they really specialists in so many different subjects? I am an Accounting specialist, and only offer tuition in Accounting or the Finance elements of a Business course. If you need a Maths tutor, then hire a Maths specialist. If you need an Accounting tutor, then hire me!

Tutoring Approach:

Many other tutors seem to describe their strategies/relationships etc, without mentioning anything concrete like exam results! Surely the one thing a prospective student wants to know about is exam results!?!? Read on.

Each department within the college is graded according to the college's own internal validation procedure. I have been graded as 1 'OUTSTANDING' for 10 years on the row, since I became head of the department!!!

The Accounting department was also graded as 1 'OUTSTANDING' in the last OFSTED report in Jan 2010. Key Findings from Ofsted:

"A high proportion of students achieve grades A and B. In A-Level Accounting more than two thirds of students gained a high grade (A-B). In AS Accounting, almost four times the national average achieved a high grade (A-B)."


I have been awarded grade 1 on the ALPS measure for value added on 3 seperate occasions in recent years. This means i add more value to my students than any other college in the country. Value added measures the difference between what the Government predicts a student should achieve at A Level based on their GCSE performance and what they actually achieve.

Personal Description:
Martin is an experienced teacher and lecturer from across a whole range of the Educational Sectors from Secondary to Further and Higher Education. He has taught ages and qualifications from year 7 Expressive Arts and Level 2 (First Diplomas) to Honours degree (BSc) Level 6.

He has guided many pupils and students to successful achievements academically and professionally.

Martin has most taught classes in Functional Skills English and Maths.

He is a Professional Associate member of Mercury Musical Developments and writes and composes for Musical Theatre having had successful productions at theatres in London, Guildford, Woking and Open Air at Runnymede. He is also part of the Electronic Music Foundation and has researched into Surround Sound techniques.

Teaching Experience:

My experience covers guitar teaching in Primary, class teaching and Head of Music in Secondary as well as Lecturing in further and Higher Education. I have been an examiner for GCSE music and taught Functional Skills English and Maths.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is friendly and student centred. I prepare for every session and I expect the student/pupil to do the same (completing any homework set) unless under particular pressure at their educational establishment. This ensures that the best progress possible is made during and after each tutorial. Students (and Parents) are likely to have particular needs which I take into consideration.

Personal Description:
I am currently enrolled in SOAS, University of London as a Masters student studying the Political Economy of Development. My primary research includes investigating the impacts of public policy on economic development. My academic training has led to strong interests in subjects including History, Politics, Economics, and English. I received my undergraduate degree in Politics and History from Brunel University and achieved a 2:1 overall.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for over 3 years. For over a year and a half, I began my teaching career by leading group tutoring sessions at a local university in preparation for the English GCSE. This was enlightening for me as a teacher, particularly when hearing and critiquing student's opinions or arguments on works of literature. In line with these teaching experiences, I have gained a certificate for community teaching (CLEI). As of this year, whilst attending University for my masters, I have been tutoring students part-time in subjects that include English, Politics and History.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe having a personable demeanor and having fun interactive and engaging lessons are the best approach to learning. I am also a strong proponent of encouraging my students to always reach their highest potential and to give their best effort to the course material. I also believe in learning as a collaborative process between the tutor and student, highlighted by discovery and insight.
