| Personal Description: Hello! I have just finished my degree in Mathematics from Leeds University. I am very friendly and approachable, and will put my full efforts in to teaching. I have my own transport and would be willing to work around the Kent area. I studied Maths(A), Chemistry(C) and Physical Education(B) at A levels, with grades written in brackets, and further maths and biology for AS. In my spare time I really enjoy playing tennis and traveling. WILLING TO TEACH ALL OVER KENT!! |
Teaching Experience: Since joining UK Tutors I have tutored at least 10 students, ages ranging from primary school to University level. I am happy to tutor any level and enjoy the challenge of tutoring both younger and more advanced students. I have been tutoring younger students since I was age 15 at school and fully understand the difficulties in understanding and overcoming problems with maths. |
Tutoring Approach: Kind, Patient, enthusiastic. I like to use lots and lots of examples and practise questions!! |

| Personal Description: Professional electronics engineer with 30 years experience. Have wide experience using maths and science in the real world. Also very good writing and communication skills. Very understanding about how people learn and patient with people who have difficulty in some areas. |
Teaching Experience: Have done private tutoring with work colleagues and college students. Have also been involved with schools science clubs and have an enhanced CRB check in place. I have no teaching qualifications and I don't believe this is a pre-requisite to being able to tutor. Past experience is proof of that. |
Tutoring Approach: Relaxed, friendly, no pressure. Students are encouraged to get stuck in, have a go and not worry about making mistakes. Making mistakes is a very powerful learning tool and should not be regarded as an indicator of ability or non-achievement. Learning must be fun and self rewarding. |

| Personal Description: I graduated from King's College, Cambridge in 2009 with a degree in Classics and then completed my PGCE at Queens' College, Cambridge in 2010. I currently supervise Cambridge University undergraduates in Latin and Greek, and tutor both languages to degree-level standard in London and Cambridge. I tutor in Cambridge during the week and in London on Sundays and in school holidays. |
Teaching Experience: * Since September 2011 I have been Head of Latin at a school in Bury St Edmunds. * Since October 2010 I have been supervising Cambridge undergraduates in Latin and Greek (at Pembroke, Downing, Homerton, Queens', King's, Trinity, Murray Edwards, Newnham, Caius, Peterhouse, St John's and Emmanuel colleges). * I have had extensive tutoring experience in Latin and Greek (and a wide variety of other subjects) over the past six years. * Over the summer holidays 2010 and 2011 I taught an intensive 'ab initio' ten day Latin course to Oxford and Cambridge beginners at the JACT Latin Summer School in Wells. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe in three key principles: 1. ANYBODY CAN EXCEL IN LATIN AND GREEK With a little guidance and a decent amount of independent work, it is genuinely possible for anybody to master the ancient languages. 2. GRAMMAR IS KEY I believe that an understanding of Latin grammar is empowering. It eliminates guess-work and maximizes success. If correctly taught, it can also be a lot of fun. 3. TUTORS ARE FACILITATORS Private tuition can be extremely helpful, but it is not a replacement for independent study. Fast progress and true success are only possible if the student works outside of the sessions. There are six main aspects to my teaching: 1. Energy & Pace: I am highly energized and like to work speedily and efficiently. 2. Slow down to speed up: I believe that thorough and detailed explanations in the short term are an essential investment in time, and enable a faster pace in the future. 3. Structure: My subject splits itself very naturally into manageable units and topics. I like the student to be aware of these chunks and how they fit into the broader picture. 4. Reinforcement: I begin every lesson recapping the work covered during the previous session. This takes as little as five minutes, but repetition is the key to successful learning. 5. Homework: Independent study is the only way to get the most from private tuition: the two must work in tandem. I set work to be completed between every session. 6. Resources: In most cases I like to use a combination of the Cambridge Latin Course and my own worksheets. I often tailor-make resources to the individual student if the need arises. Above all, I strive to make my lessons fun and enjoyable. I love my subject and want all of my tutees to love it too. |

| Personal Description: I'm married with three children, currently in their late teens and early twenties, and with my wife have gone through the parental anguish of public and university exams every year since 2006 and will potentially do so until 2017! I'm a professionally qualified accountant with an honours mathematics degree and a postgraduate certificate in education. I've had a career working in local government finance, supporting managers in managing their service budgets. I have particular interest in the relevant computer applications (e.g. spreadsheets), financial training and quality issues. |
Teaching Experience: Teaching practice at a Reading school. Written and presented well-received financial training materials. I've supported service managers with often limited numeracy ability to manage multi-million pound budgets. While only one of my three children has a natural leaning towards scientific subjects, they got A, A* & B at Maths GCSE (fairly light-touch parental support, rather than any intensive tutoring). |
Tutoring Approach: While always mindful of the immediate goal to pass exams and "get the grades", I endeavour to instill real understanding of the subject. While it would be great to hear I've helped turn a C into an A, I'd just as much hear that someone no longer fears or hates maths lessons. Apart from Maths tutoring I can offer: Excel Spreadsheet Support: One-to-one sessions tailored to your needs, to learn new functions, pick up tips and good spreadsheet practice, problem solve on your current spreadsheets or help you build new practical spreadsheets. IT Basics - Got a computer and haven't got a child at hand to help you; then maybe I can help. I'm no computer geek, but over the years I've learnt to solve most problems thrown up by my machines at home and at work and have used them in a variety of practical ways. I can perhaps show you that you are capable of more than a few emails and web browsing on your machine. I can help take the fear out of that unattractive box and its tangle of cables. Financial management for non-accountants: Are you one of those people given the responsibility to manage a budget at work, but feel you are lacking a bit of confidence and some of the skills to do it properly? Did you leave mathematics behind at school and feel it hasn't quite prepared you for this? I can hopefully help you build confidence in your own abilities and show that a bit of calculator common sense or spreadsheet savvy is not beyond you. |

| Personal Description: I have a first class honours degree in mathematics as well as university prizes as top maths student in both part I and part II finals. I went into software engineering and built up two multimillion pound companies that I sold in 2001. I have three daughters, two of whom now also have firsts in maths., all have A*s at GCSE and A Level maths. Since 2001 I have tutored on more regular basis as I feel maths should be available to students of all abilities and where possible students should become empowered and self reliant in maths. |
Teaching Experience: I originally tutored other undergrads while still at university. Since then I have tutored at all levels from 11+ entrance to PhD students. I am currently tutoring GCSE, A level and IB students with some forays into university maths. I have enabled students with limited maths ability to achieve A*s at both GCSE and A level as well ensuring gifted students maintain their A* standards. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach is flexible as it totally depends on the student. Not only their innate ability, their current situation but the time and effort they are able/willing to give. At the end of the day its all about breaking down school maths into a collection of simple processes and rules. Then ensuring the student can identify which rules to use, how to apply them and has been provided with the basic algebraic and numeracy skills to process the rules.. I prefer the 'by example' approach using external analogies where possible. For example at A level module with 16+ past papers allows the classic 'by example' technique to be a recommended exam weapon. |

With regards to entrance exams, I am also able to help with nonverbal and verbal reasoning papers (especially Tiffin!) I have A Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry, Biology and French, and Geography AS Level, all at grade A* or A. 12A*s at GCSE. I charge £15 an hour, + petrol if I come to you (40p a mile each way). Have a full, clean driving license and access to a car - although it is preferable if you can come to me as I share the car and don't always know in advance when I'll have access to it. Fully CRB checked. Do get in contact if you think I can help! Live in Cobham |
Teaching Experience: Tutoring experience for over 5 years. References available. Have taught ages from 6-18 (plus adults for piano and maths). Full CRB check. |
Tutoring Approach: Informal, friendly approach. Aim to improve results and get pupils interested in the subject. | Personal Description: My name is Sandra and I live in the south part of Norwich with my husband and tabby cat called Mowgli. My three boys are now at university (Leeds, Durham and Bremen) so the house is much more peaceful and I can spend more time on tutoring. |
Teaching Experience: I have worked full time in Secondary Schools for the last 6 years, teaching Maths for years 7,8 and 9 and for GCSE and A level. I have taught A level cores 1,2,3 and 4 with both the OCR and the AQA boards of examination. I have been a 6th form tutor and have a good knowledge of the UCAS process and of the universities themselves. I also have experience of graduate tutoring for students wishing to improve their numerical reasoning for job applications. More and more graduate jobs are requiring additional aptitude tests including numerical reasoning in the form of psychometric assessment. |
Tutoring Approach: I enjoy being with young people especially hearing about their aspirations for the future. Maths is such a necessary tool, whether it is gaining Maths GSCE to open more doors, or getting your head around aspects of A level maths which will be used at university for quantum mechanics. I have developed several topical online resources so that the pupil's understanding can be quickly assessed and he or she can then have the confidence to make sure progress, in small steps. I encourage my students to explain their thinking at every opportunity. They have commented that the time goes very quickly as I use a variety of teaching methods, including games and card sorts as well as problem solving. |

| Personal Description: I am a motivated and qualified teacher. I am currently teaching A Level Mathematics and Physics and really enjoy being able to help individual learners succeed and reach their potential. Having studied Physics at degree level, I have a deep interest in Physics and Mathematics and aim to share my enthusiasm with others. This led me to train as a qualified teacher. My goal in tutoring is to help learners understand and succeed in subjects that they might find difficult (or even boring!) Maths and Physics can be difficult subjects, but I strongly believe that through hard work and good tuition, anyone can grasp them. |
Teaching Experience: I have been teaching and tutoring for the past 6 years. This has included GCSE, A Level and University level Physics and Mathematics. The majority of my tuition has included one-to-one sessions, specifically with students that were preparing for exams (GCSE and A Level). I worked for several years as a University teaching assistant in first year Physics and Mathematics courses. I am now working as a teacher in a Sixth Form where I continue to gain experience and knowledge in teaching and exam preparation. |
Tutoring Approach: My personal philosophy is that learners need to build their understanding from the basics up. In order to do this, many learners need a personalised study plan that meets their needs and helps them improve in the key areas they have difficulty in. Once the basics have been properly understood, real exam preparation can take place. This includes forming revision plans and working through revision resources (like revision guides). Finally, a large amount of practice is needed with past exam questions, focussed on the areas the learner finds most difficult. |
