Personal Description:
I am an honest and reliable person who works hard. I enjoy travelling, skiing and cycling. I really love my work and have decided to become a self employed tutor. I am currently living in Lowestoft, but am willing to travel as far as Norwich for employment.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching English as a Foreign Language since 1994 and have worked in Malaysia as well as the UK. I spent eight years in Malaysia working in private language schools. In addition, I spent two years teaching English to GCSE level at a boarding school.

More recently, I have worked in prisons teaching English to both foreign nationals and local prisoners. I have also taught ESOL at local colleges. I have had some experience of working with small groups of children. My specialist subject areas are English as a Foreign Language, English grammar and pronunciation.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that each student has different goals and needs. Therefore, I adopt a flexible approach to learning depending on what the student hopes to achieve. I believe that grammar is important and find that many students request help in this area. I also believe that reading is very important and have developed suitable resources for use with both adults and younger learners. I also work a lot on pronunciation and conversation skills. Generally, a course will include practise of all five skills with more emphasis on certain areas according to the individual needs of students.

Personal Description:
I am Pharmacist. I have masters in Pharmaceutical sciences from the University of Sunderland. I have taught primary school students to University students as a private tutor. I am able to make learning real to the individual by explaining the concept of different topics in a way that is practical and understandable. This method of teaching makes it easier for the student to remember more.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught various age groups. Primary, GCSE and A-Levels. (Edexcel/OCR/AQA)

Tutoring Approach:

I have learnt over the years that students learn in different ways. I try to identify how best the student likes and learn best and apply it accordingly. However I have achieved success the most by making the student understand the rational behind the solution for any challenge.

Personal Description:
I have lived in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire in the United Kingdom since December 2009. I am originally from Kumamoto, where I completed a training course at the EII Japanese Language Centre. I have now been teaching Japanese to students of all levels for nearly ten years.

Teaching Experience:

I started teaching Japanese in Kumamoto, Japan 10 years ago. I teach both children and adults and from absolute beginners to advanced level students. After moving to England I've been teaching from my home.

I also have 8 years experience of teaching online using Skype and an interactive whiteboard for students all over the world. I have worked for a major Japanese online school for 2 years.

I have taught students who aim to take the JLPT exam, the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (from the1st to 5th grade), and who are studying for The Duke of Edinburgh award.

I have also helped business people who are planning to work for Japanese companies.

My lesson fees are as follows:

Face-to-face lessons

Private Lessons : 25 for a one hour individual lesson (at my home)

Group Lessons
2 people : 20 per person for a one hour lesson (at my home)
3 or more people : Please enquire about availability (at a public venue)
3 people : 18 per person for a one hour lesson
4-5 people : 15 per person for a one hour lesson
6-8 people : 13 per person for a one hour lesson

You can take group lessons with your friends or family members. Discounted lesson rates are available if you can collect a group of between 2 and 8 people.

Online lessons

Private lessons :
20 for a 50 minute individual lesson
25 for a 60 minute individual lesson

Group Lessons
2 people : 18 per person for a 50 minute lesson / 20 per person for a 60 minute lesson
3-5 people : 15 per person for a 50 minute lesson / 17 per person for a 60 minute lesson
6-8 people : 13 per person for a 50 minute lesson / 15 per person for a 60 minute lesson

Tutoring Approach:

I begin by introducing essential sentence patterns and teaching how to use them in practise conversations. I use role-play to make the conversations real and teach how to speak Japanese naturally. You will soon realise my lessons are completely different from normal language studies at school and find that my method is both practical and effective.

Personal Description:
I am currently training to become a Primary School teacher. I have an undergraduate degree in Psychology, this combined with my previous work experience means I'm vastly knowledgeable about how children learn (including those with SEN).

Teaching Experience:

I have worked in primary schools as a 1:1 since the first year of university (2012). I then completed my degree in Psychology and enrolled on a School Direct course (Primary PGCE with QTS). I therefore have experience teaching children with SEN and children aged 5-11.
I have good use and experience of Makaton.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the best approach to any kind of tutoring is one that is tailored to the person. This as well as a good relationship is what I feel produces the best results.

Personal Description:
Semi-retired, experienced teacher who enjoys developing students as independent thinkers. Passionate about supporting people in reaching their goals. Patient and supportive. Current Enhanced DBS Certificate.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 15 years experience teaching KS3 and KS4 Maths and Science in secondary schools; returning to teaching after working in industry where I extended my experience and skills in developing people to attain their personal and professional goals. Passionate about developing students to reach their maximum potential - I have experience in teaching, mentoring and supporting students across all abilities. Previous experience tutoring students in maths at both primary and secondary level.

Tutoring Approach:

Whether pre-GSCE and wanting to increase skills and confidence in maths, or working towards a GCSE and wanting to secure a higher grade - my approach is to understand the student as a learner to identify potential barriers to their understanding, and then building skills through practice to embed learning. I focus this within the context of what the student wants to achieve - the reason why they have sought-out help from a maths tutor.

Personal Description:
I am a first year Medical Engineering Masters student and have a passion for sharing my knowledge. My university course requires knowledge of mathematics, physics, electronics and biology. However I fear that any knowledge I have obtained in the past in other subjects (such as chemistry, my favourite subject at college) would fade away. I am also very enthusiastic about teaching and believe I can bring out the best in students. Therefore I am offering my tutoring services to any student that requires that extra push in any of the subjects listed. This is the first real approach I have taken in tutoring professionally, although I have had some tutoring experience (see below). My availability for tutoring is open at the moment as I am on break from University, however after that my time may be limited weekends and weekday evenings so please bear that in mind. I am also willing to do online tutoring through Skype. A mix of online and in-person tutoring is also available. I would prefer to hold a first session in a library/other location and then move on to in-home tuition although I do realise this is not always possible (especially with younger students).

Teaching Experience:

- Tutored Mathematics to a GCSE student after school in my free time.
- Tutored fellow peers in A-Level Psychology during lunch breaks and provided my quality revision notes as requested by teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

I have studied A-levels and GCSEs quite recently so I completely understand the pressures of not being able to understand a concept and not getting questions right. I believe that a student can find their passion for a subject if they are taught it the correct way.

My approach to tutoring involves covering topics that the student does not understand and may not be comfortable with. With the first session or before it, I would like to establish areas like this and then move on from there. As each session takes place, the student and I will be building up knowledge so that the concepts of the subject are well understood. From there we will practice exam questions, complete worksheets and create revision material. I will also be providing work to be done outside the sessions if it is deemed necessary.

I am willing to also teach subjects from scratch if that is the approach you would like me to take as I am familiar with the necessary concepts.

I understand some students may be shy or afraid to ask questions, so my goal if that is the case is to be patient and build an environment where this can be done both with myself and in the classroom.

Personal Description:
My name is Jake and I am currently a third-year law student studying at University. As I start my final year, graduation is fast approaching and I am on course to securing a 1st classification in my degree. Upon completion of my law degree I intend to embark upon the LLM Bar Professional Training Course where I shall obtain a masters degree in law as well as a post graduate diploma in bar practice rendering me eligible to be called to the bar as a qualified barrister.

I possess excellent written and verbal communication skills which I have honed through 4 years of court advocacy experience withing the advocacy society and law society. My ability to convey personal understanding and guidance has been measured and tempered through my time marshalling alongside HH Judge Peter Barrie at Shrewsbury Crown Court where I was involved in judicial case work and legal proceedings. Through the mini-pupillage, I completed at 187 Fleet Street Barristers Chambers in London where I worked alongside prosecution and defence barristers I supported the most vulnerable members of society through the justice system, where many had physical and mental disabilities. These skills have made me the ideal candidate to coach, support and mentor students of all ages and academic abilities including those with learning difficulties.

Teaching Experience:

Throughout my studies, I have performed a number of tutoring/mentoring roles as a Student Ambassador, advisor for the Citizens Advice Bureau and as a legal advisor for the Legal Advice Clinic. My ambassadorial role contained an academic outreach programme where I was despatched to local schools and colleges to provide supplementary tutoring to students aged 14-18 and promote higher education prospects/diversity and encourage entry onto higher education courses.

Tutoring Approach:

When it comes to teaching, people learn in different ways and at different speeds and the best teachers recognise this and adapt to their student's needs. All too often this is overlooked in schools with classes of 30+ students and so those students who need the extra 1 on 1 support often get neglected. This additional supplementary education is exactly what I offer, where lessons are tailored to the students not dictated to the students. This ensures that the student gets the support they need in a calm and encouraging environment. As a student myself subject to rigorous examinations, I am able to empathise with my student's situations and provide them with the extra resources they need to excel and not levy the additional pressure that is often afforded to students within mainstream academic institutions.

In relation to subjects like English and Law, I stress student engagement through problem-based scenarios. This is important as it encourages students to not just learn the material but be able to apply it in an exam styled answer, this promotes understanding and mastery of the subject matter. I believe that homework and revision are important factors to learning, indeed they can be equally as important as the lesson itself. However, the key to effective revision is consistency where the emphasis is quality over quantity, 20 minutes each day can be far more effective that 5 hours in one sitting.

For history, my methods are slightly different as history exams and assessments are posed almost exclusively as essay questions as opposed to problem-based scenarios. To reflect this, I dedicate time to essay writing itself to make my students are comfortable with writing in an academic/scholastic fashion. This is important as bad essay structure can lower the mark attainment even if the quality of its content is up to scratch. In dealing the main body of a history syllabus, I find the best approach is chunking the module into smaller topics then layering knowledge gradually.

First and foremost studying is never easy but aside from top quality teaching I provide the reassuring environment that fosters excellence and ensures exam prowess without the stress.
