Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic, energetic teacher with eight years experience teaching and tutoring A-level with a passion for my subject. In my spare time I watch and play football, enjoy reading, hiking and watching films; on the odd occasion I like to go skiing or scuba diving.

I studied A-levels before deciding to go to Durham University to read Chemistry. Once I finished my degree, I trained as a teacher at Manchester University and worked in Manchester for three years before moving down to London for four years. I have been teaching A-level Chemistry for eight years in total and have experience tutoring every exam board including the IB. I am also an OCR Examiner and Reviewer for AS Chemistry Exam Breadth in Chemistry.

In the Summer 2014 exams, I successfully guided the Chemistry department to their first 100% pass rate and a headline figure of 83% A-C in AS Chemistry.
In the Summer 2015 exams, the A-level Chemistry results at Sacred Heart were one of the best with 93% A*-C (64% A*-B).
In the Summer 2016, A-level Chemistry achieved 80% A*-C (65% A*-B) grades.

I left teaching this year to go back to university to read Medicine, however I am still looking to tutor students who require support and advice in Chemistry.

Teaching Experience:

First Post: Crompton House School (OCR): September 2009 - August 2011(Teacher of GCSE and A-level Chemistry)

Second Post: Bolton School (AQA): September 2011 - August 2012 (Teacher of GCSE and A-level Chemistry)

Third Post: Sacred Heart Catholic School (OCR): September 2012 - August 2016 (Lead Teacher of Chemistry)

OCR Specialist Examiner for Breadth in Chemistry: September 2013 - present

Currently a Medical Student at Manchester University.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very calm, patient and relaxed person and this is reflected in my tutoring. Many students can have difficulty with Science (in particular Chemistry) and with a one on one approach can be more motivating than in a classroom environment. I have an excellent knowledge of Science and can communicate this effectively. I will take you as far as you need to go in the subject and will be efficient with your time. Past successes include two students whom increased a grade from a B to A to get onto a Medicine course and also recently a student whom achieved a C at AS level and came out with an A for his full A-level.

I normally tutor by focusing on key concepts and ideas, using past paper questions to highlight what the exam requirements are and help students learn to apply their knowledge. I can also tutor in a less formal way where students can bring particular questions or topics and we can discuss them and look at application and exam style questions.

Personal Description:
As a faculty head of English and modern languages I have a broad knowledge of texts, and am well qualified to meet the curricular needs of any pupil. I have marked Standard Grade folio and Higher Critical essay for the SQA for many years, and Higher Folio for the last 8 years, so am well versed in expected pupil standards.
I would also like to say, at this point, that the reason I prefer pupils to come to my home is because I do not drive and I have lots of materials at home.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching English at all levels, from 1st-6th years, for 24 years.
I have also been tutoring for 12/13 years and in this years (2016) exams I saw all my tutees pass Higher despite some of them only coming to me after having failed their Prelim. All were ecstatic with their result and phoned to inform, and thank,me. This years results have been astounding as of my 8 tutees, 7 got A passes and one got a B. All came for the majority of the year and none were certainties for an A. Indeed 3 were struggling but worked extremely hard and got well deserved A's.

As well as new pupils for Higher last session I also had several returning pupils,or siblings, from last year as my services as a tutor have been retained to now take them through the transition from N5 to Higher. This has been a trend for me as tutees have always been happy with the lessons and my efforts in making them feel comfortable.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a well experienced tutor on a 1 to 1 and group basis. I have tutored at all Secondary levels and will support, and supplement, the teaching materials already provided by the pupils' schools. I will look over, and grade, work done by pupils in school and that set by me. In general, I will identify a pupils weakest areas and we will work hard on improving on that whilst "fine tuning" other areas.
From the Academic year 2014/15 National 5 and N6 Higher students were catered for and I, myself, teach it to my 4th and 5th year students. This will be a very challenging year for S4 as a lot has to be done in a shorter time as year 4, generally have 1 or 2 less teaching periods than year 5/6 yet they have the same work to cover. In addition they have more exams and work experience to cope with. An early start at this would be advised in order to get into folio as soon as possible.

Personal Description:
I have extensive experience of different photographic genres over many years with a particular specialism in wildlife, landscape and creative environmental photography projects. I have a first degree in BA(Hons) Wildlife & Environmental Photography from Blackpool and the Fylde College and an MA in Wildlife Documentary Production.

Previous to taking these courses as a mature student I practiced location and journalistic photography in my capacity as Film Unit Manager for the London Borough of Greenwich, photographing on film sets such as About a Boy with Hugh Grant and the remake of the Four Feather with Kate Hudson and Heath Ledger.

I have won a number of prestigious photography competitions including the Royal Horticultural Society silver award for macro images of flowers and was a finalist in the Natural History Museum's Wildlife Photographer of the Year Awards. I have exhibited in the Look 13 International Photography Exhibition, other locations in the northwest of England, London and New York. I have also made two short wildlife films which mix documentary with fictional elements in story telling.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught at a number of leading institutions including Ravensbourne College of Media and Communication, Blackpool and Fylde College, Liverpool University and Cumbria Wildlife Trust as well as personal tuition and mentoring on creative photography. I have also volunteered on nature photography projects with Embrace Cooperation Ltd for secondary school children and adults. I can teach you how to use your DSLR camera plus the basics and more advanced tools for creative photography and documentary style projects. Complete beginners to the more advanced photographer welcome.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer a 1.5 hour introductory photography lesson to individual adult learners at the special rate of £75. This may be enough to help you get to grips with your camera and/or establish whether the teaching methods and aims fit. Also good as a present!

Please note that all individual adult lessons will take place in or near the Waterloo/Southbank area of central London.

I like to teach photography in a creative way, allowing the pupil to develop their own style through a process of fieldwork, set projects and the study of other artists and photographers. They will start to see the world in a different way. It is a great confidence builder as well as a skills provider.

Comment from a previous student:

"Just a quick note to say thank you for such an inspiring and brilliant course. ............. I have learnt so much, it's been a real inspiration to me." Sarah-Jane

I am also able to teach groups at special rates and team-building days with corporates and organisations. Mentoring of individuals in the process of career change and personal development. Please enquire about any of the above.

N.B. Lessons can be taken within one year of purchase. Additional rates quoted for travel beyond central London. Most teaching takes place at a location on the Southbank.

Personal Description:
I studied English Literature at Edinburgh University, graduating with a First Class Masters in 1999, before going on to train as an actor at the prestigious London Academy of Dramatic Art (LAMDA) in 2001. Since graduating, I have worked extensively as an actor in theatre, television and radio and since 2007 I have worked very closely with acclaimed theatre company The Factory as an associate producer and director as well as an actor. I have a wide-ranging interest in the arts (from contemporary music through to cinema and the visual arts) as well as an active interest in politics and current affairs. I have worked as a free-lance tutor since 2005 and love not only the obvious flexibility it affords but, far more importantly, the mental, creative and social stimulation it provides both me and, hopefully, those I teach.

Teaching Experience:

In 2005 I registered with a private agency and taught English Literature as a freelance tutor at GCSE level for them that year.
I have wide and extensive experience teaching and creating drama with young people: I have worked on schools and youth projects with Shakespeare's Globe, the National Student Drama Festival and the Carney Academy of Performing Arts as well providing private tuition for drama school entrance and audition technique.
I occasionally work for the University of Westminster as a free-lance actor, working closely with director and academic Helen Eastman.

Tutoring Approach:

I passionately believe that education needs to be grounded in passing on, developing and deepening the love of a subject and that, as such, learning shouldn't be results led. I also believe that people are different and that an approach to tutoring and education should reflect that.

As such I aim to keep engagement and enjoyment at the centre of the process. I encourage pupils to engage with their subject through lateral and creative thinking in the belief that good results follow when a student can enter into a dialogue with the work they are being asked to do and not the other way round.

Personal Description:
I've had a passion for Maths from as far back as I can remember and my philosophy is that if you enjoy a subject, then you will become good at it. I came to live in Poole after spending most of my early life in the Portsmouth area. I love travelling and walking as well as most sports. My qualifications include a degree in Mathematics and a PGCE in secondary education. I am willing to come to your home or Skype - whatever is the more convenient or appropriate to suit the needs of the tutee. In terms of travelling to you, I am prepared to drive to your home free of charge, up to 7.5 miles away.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in numerous secondary schools in both the independent and state sectors during the past sixteen years. I currently teach at Poole Grammar School where one of my roles has been Manager of the Dorset Further Maths Centre. A significant part of this role involved teaching a range of students many A level modules in their own schools where they had limited A Level/ Further Maths provision. As a result, I am very familiar with teaching all board specifications at both A Level (including Further Maths) and GCSE. I can provide tuition for C1-4, FP1, S1&2, D1&2 and M1 plus any aspect of GCSE. I have an excellent record for gaining outstanding grades for my students at both A Level and GCSE.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in building a good relationship with my students so as to understand their needs and aspirations. I am patient and approachable and always encouraging. I love my job as a teacher and hope to enthuse my tutees as much as possible. I hope to impart my knowledge and passion of maths to whoever wants to learn and improve. I will always endeavour to give good value for money.

Personal Description:
I have recently returned to Scotland after 14 years teaching internationally. I live in the West End of Glasgow with Honey, my gorgeous little dog that I rescued in Hong Kong.

Teaching Experience:

I worked as a teacher trainer in Hong Kong for 10 years, co-planning and co-teaching with local teachers. I specialised in teaching students who had difficulty in accessing the curriculum. Before this, I worked with the British Council teaching English to adults in Egypt and Korea. I also taught for several years in further education colleges in Scotland.

Tutoring Approach:

I listen, observe and then individualise my classes to suit students needs. I care passionately about teaching and take great pride in providing highly professional, enjoyable and ultimately fruitful classes

Personal Description:
The social sciences are my expertise. In particular, cinema and art history with critical theory. I have extensive research experience in continental philosophy (Kant, Hegel, Marx, Althusser, Deleuze, Adorno, Badiou, etc.) and am well-versed in a wide-range of media and art theory topics (e.g. modernity, medium specificity, globalisation, avant-gardes, etc.).

I have a decade of experience as a media producer for various web and radio enterprises, and have written professionally for a range of digital publications.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 5 years of experience tutoring across the subjects listed in my profile. And I have also advised successfully on essays, coursework, dissertations and exam preparation from A-level to postgraduate level.

Coursework, essays and dissertation topics I have recently supervised:

- The semiotics of Barthes and Jakobsen
- Base, superstructure and ideological state apparatuses between Marx and Althusser
- The 'wilderness cosmology' of Daoism in classical Chinese Poetry
- Social unrest and China's modernisation project in the cinema of Jia Zhangke
- A comparative political analysis of Halklarin Demokratik Partisi and Ciudadanos
- Jean Baudrillard's concept of Hyperreality and 'The Truman Show'
- Phenomenology and Bad Faith between Edmund Husserl and Jean-Paul Sartre
- Postmodern urbanism and the cinema of Neill Blomkamp
- The Fauvist revolution in modern painting
- The Printing Press and media theory since Elizabeth Eisenstein
- Consumerism, and the media spectacle in urban Chengdu
- The fashion film and the "bad bitch": post-feminist representation in contemporary Hollywood cinema

Do contact me to discuss your specific essay, presentation or dissertation needs.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer two types of tuition: online (text-based) and in-person (verbal).

Online tuition is the most efficient method for written assignment preparation; superior in my experience than in-person tuition since the student is naturally obliged to articulate concepts, issues and questions directly in the written form that they are required to submit their essays, dissertations, and coursework in. This avoids the extra labour of translating verbal communication to written communication and vice-versa, which slows progress. I conduct online tuition via Skype, which is free to download and use.

In-person tuition is, however, better suited and encouraged for verbal assignments, like presentations and language-speaking practice.

Regardless of type, I always apply a needs-based approach to tuition; allowing my students' needs to dictate pace and intensity. I can, therefore, work closely on particular syllabus material in relation to coursework and exams, or take a broader approach to adult and casual learning.

I offer a full range of help on written work, from "brainstorming", essay or dissertation plans, literature reviews, primary-source gathering, all the way to polishing up the final draft before submission. All written work that I proof-read and supervise will be returned with in-line annotations (using MS Word or LibreOffice's comments and tracked-changes) offering detailed criticisms and suggestions on how to improve anything from grammar, structure, analysis, tone, argument and so forth. I also work fast: written work received before noon can be expected back the same day.

Personal Description:
My name is Ian and I would be a female tutor. I was born in Malaysia and I have travelled to New Zealand and Australia for academic and research purposes. I have recently passed my PhD Viva and currently preparing for a major move to Orkney Islands. Even though English is not my first language, I have a great understanding in the subject of Organic Chemistry, I have ample tips for studying chemistry along side with basic knowledge in Math.

Teaching Experience:

I was a Campus Coach during my academic years in New Zealand. I would help 1st and 2nd year university students from our science department with their studies. This include giving them motivation to learn, tips for note-taking, managing time meeting all kind of assignments, giving advice on who they should approach for more academic and social help.

Recently, I was a lab demonstrator and Chemistry tutor during my academic year at University of Glasgow. I assisted students in the safe execution of the experiment, safe and proper operation and handling of lab equipment, chemicals and glassware. I was actively engaged with the students in discussions about the experiment. I also collected and grade pre-lab assignments in a timely manner, enter grades in record book, and circulate to give individual feedback to students. In addition, I was responsible for reporting any problems/incidents/inconsistencies immediately to the instructor and replenish/prepare any chemicals or supplies if asked upon with help from the technicians. I had the first-hand experience as a marker of assignments and lab reports, so I will know what to expect from a good to excellent answers to given questions.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach varies depending on the student's needs and learning style. However my teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world examples wherever possible. I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and examples to check understanding continually.

I usually focus on exam-style or past paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect the student's understanding and technique.

Feel free to drop me a line if you need help with your homework. If there is any single topic of Chemistry you need some clarification and understanding, don't delay!

Tutoring Approach:

I started tutoring students the year 2005. I have always had one or two students apart from my regular job. During this time I have been able to see how my students progress and develop their communicative skills in english or Spanish. I have worked with young learners, teenagers, university students, business people, etc.

I have always developed a friendly relationship with my students, making them feel comfortable speaking in english, without being afraid of making mistakes.

Personal Description:
Hi! My name is Hannah and I am a graduate of Newcastle University in English Linguistics, French and Japanese. My major interests include travelling, using the languages I already speak and beginning to learn new languages, as well as to discover new countries' cultures and history. I also love learning about the history of language, its roots and links with other languages.

I have lived for 10 months in Kyōto and in Paris, studying Japanese and teaching English to French children; whilst there, I revelled in the discovery of new places, people and lifestyle, which for me make any new experience extraordinary!

Teaching Experience:

I began teaching English to two young French children in Paris shortly after I graduated; my responsibilities included collecting them from school, looking after them at home and engaging them in activities and exercises to improve their English skills. Over the months I spent with them, I saw a distinct progression in their comprehension and their level of spoken English, as well as in their overall behaviour and discipline.

I have several students taking weekly private lessons in Japanese and French; I also teach two Japanese classes per week at a primary school in Durham.

I have taught Shotokan karate to students of all levels and ages for 11 years; I began as an assistant instructor several months after I started training, at the age of 12, and have since become an instructor of full classes of adults and children in our club and of children aged 5-11 in primary schools.

Tutoring Approach:

I deliver high quality, well planned and well structured classes for students of all abilities to children and adults of any age. Whether you wish to brush up on your language skills in preparation for a trip, to support a language course at school, college or university or to fulfil an interest in the culture of a country speaking one of these languages, I will provide a personalised programme of study which I will accompany you in completing. Your tailored language classes will be put together based on your own current level, your preferred teaching methods and your learning style in addition to exactly what you hope to achieve by studying a language with me.
