Personal Description:
I am mum to two boys, both who have flown the nest. I miss them greatly now that they are based in London but try to visit as much as I can. I love to shop and also exercise, especially pilates. Oh and I do love to cook!

Teaching Experience:

I studied at Dundee College of Education where I gained a Diploma in Primary Education. This was a three year course. I then took another Certificate in Early Years. After leaving College, I taught in both the state and private primary sector. I left teaching to have my children and then to nurse my youngest child who was quite sick for a few years. Once his health was better, I started working as a tutor from home or going to the client's house to tutor. I now tutor seven days a week. I have experience in Maths, Language, Phonics and Grammar. I also tutor children in preparation for entrance exams in to the independent sector, which includes Verbal, Non-Verbal Reasoning, Maths, Language and Spelling. The children I have tutored have all had great success, many going forward for a scholarship.
I have an online Dyslexia touch type programme which has had tremendous success. Many children, with the school's permission , come to be tutored within school hours.

Tutoring Approach:

I always believe that the child should feel comfortable with the person they are being tutored by and build up a good relationship. Tutoring is not only about helping the child to succeed but also for them to gain confidence and self belief. I have various methods of tutoring from written work, reading and oral work. I also have a computer available where we can work from. eg online games After each lesson, I give the child homework to be completed for the next lesson.

Personal Description:
I am a former Head of English and Assistant Headteacher in a local secondary school and have a very strong record of raising pupils' attainment. I have worked with all year groups, 7-13 (age 11-18), and have experience working with pupils with special needs, as well as having done lots of work on stretching more able students. English is my passion and it's one I am enthusiastic to share with others. I graduated from Oxford University in 2005 and am currently Senior Examiner at GCSE for one of the major exam boards, so I know what they really want to see! I am also a 'subject expert' in English at Ofqual. I now oversee the training and work of up to 80 examiners so have very significant experience in this area.

Teaching Experience:

I qualified as a teacher in 2006, having taken my PGCE at Homerton College in Cambridge. Since then I have worked full time at a local school teaching English, although I have now returned to full time study so have better availability for tutoring. I have marked both GCSE English Language and English Literature for OCR and AQA and CIE, and also mark A Level. I am aware my price point is higher than others, but this reflects the years of teaching and direct examining experience which I will bring to your sessions; I believe I am very well placed to help students achieve their potential.

Tutoring Approach:

In consultation with student and parents/carers, we would put together a programme which would be tailored to meet the needs to of the student. I always try to create a relaxed atmosphere, and encourage humour!

Personal Description:
I am 43 years old. I like being a teacher and I get true enjoyment from sharing my knowledge and skills with new learners, making them realize how easy learning can be and how much actually they do know already. I like helping young people enjoy learning and making learning easy for them. I am patient and adaptable and easy to talk to. I always discuss the needs of my new pupils very carefully and aim to build their confidence in the subject. As an Examiner with a well-known Board, I am able to help my students to maximise their potential using targeted revision and exam techniques.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a teacher for 14 years. I have always wanted to be a teacher. I have worked in several schools now, gaining experience from working with a variety of learners of various ages and learning styles. I have worked within the requirements of more than one examing board, therefore I am quite familiar with all exam formats. I have been a tutor also for 10 years with very good results. Students do like me within first session, gaining confidence and self reassurance that they are capable of a lot already. Only some issues need re-addressing, building on their prior knowledge. I have been an EDEXCEL expert marker for six years now. I am recommended as a tutor by Emmanuel College and Cardinal Hume School in Gateshead, as both schools know me well. Among other teaching positions I have been a classroom teacher at Lord Lawson School in Birtley and Whitburn School in Sunderland. I have worked as an intervention teacher (one to one teacher) in a few schools already, due to my extensive experience gained along the pas years.

Tutoring Approach:

Within the first session, I discover the individual needs of my learners, their strengths and weaknesses. Then I devise a plan to address the whole programme of study within the number of weeks available, so no topic is ignored. I work simultaneously on exam requirements, but also on skill development, skills that the student can benefit from, outside the boundaries of a specific exam format. Students find themselves forgetting the time, often engrossed in their work, mentally challenged and stimulated. I set short homework at times, so that students can practise independently on those skills they develop with me, being reassured that they can transfer those skills further. I do provide learning materials which I do personalize for each student. I am very likable and I do make young learners be at ease within minutes of meeting them.

APPROACH TO TUITION

Tailoring tuition to suit the student
The advantage of one-to-one tuition is that I can assess what specific needs a student has, and organise my lessons around those needs. Some students need essay technique help some have a specific set of topics they want to go over others might need an entire course taught to them as they have left school or are being home educated.

Knowing the syllabus
All GCSEs and A Levels follow a national syllabus, and I know them all very well. In my first lesson with any student I will make sure they are aware of the overall requirements of the syllabus, on a topic-by-topic basis. I will always stick to what the student needs to know to pass that particular syllabus I do not needlessly make students learn things they do not need to know.

Digital handouts
In my years of tuition, I have built up a cloud-based digital archive of hundreds of handouts. Say a student is learning about arguments for the existence of God for RS A Level - I have handouts very clearly outlining the Ontological, Teleological and Cosmological arguments and all relevant criticisms. These handouts are a great extra help alongside my teaching.

Teaching Experience:

I have thousands of hours of tuition experience, having taught hundreds of students. I have dozens of letters of recommendation. Some of the specific subjects I have taught include:

Government & Politics (Edexcel and OCR)
Cambridge Pre-U Theology & Philosophy
Philosophy A Level (AQA, OCR and Edexcel)
Religious Studies (OCR, AQA and Edexcel) GCSE, A Level
Sociology (AQA) AS and A2
Theology and Religious Studies at degree level (I have helped six different students receive good grades for third year RS dissertations)
Oxbridge applications and interview practice

I have a written reference from a doctor of Philosophy and college chaplain at Cambridge University, as well as an excellent reference from my full-time tutoring placement for the last year.

Extracts from letters of recommendation (all available in full on request):

"Incredibly reliable and professional...James' superior knowledge and passion for his subject resulted in my son gaining both in confidence and ability and led him to succeed in achieving a Distinction grade when his school had predicted a Merit."
Mother of Pre-U student, 2013.

"James's enthusiasm, attention to detail and ability to make the lessons interesting and absorbing has paid off...I cannot recommend James highly enough. He is punctual and thoughtful and I would not hesitate to hire him again in the future."
Mother of homeschooled A2 candidate taught full time for a year in History (Edexcel), Sociology (AQA) and Religious Studies (Edexcel), 2011/12.

"A great source of help to my daughter over the past two years; making smooth preparations for her to retake her AS level, alongside her continuing work towards her A level. He contributed invaluably towards her outstanding AS level pass mark of 100% . For her A2, Olivia received an A."
Mother of Philosophy A Level (AQA) Candidate, 2012/13.

"James was an excellent tutor. He explained complex ideas clearly and tailored his tutoring to suit my son. Importantly, he acted as a strong motivator and made sure rigourous revision notes were made... humourous, friendly and a good natured motivator. My son received an A*".
Mother of GCSE Religious Studies student (OCR), 2012/13.

"He immediately established a very good working relationship with my daughter which encouraged her to really engage with the subject and plan and think about the topics in depth. He helped her with the structure of her essays and how to build up a coherent and well thought out argument...I would highly recommend James as a Philosophy tutor."
Mother of Religious Studies (OCR) student, 2012/13.

"Jame's enthusiasm, attention to detail and ability to make the lessons interesting and absorbing has paid off...I cannot recommend Jame's highly enough. He is punctual and thoughtful and I would not hesitate to hire him again in the future."
Mother of homeschooled A2 candidate taught full time for a year in History (Edexcel), Sociology (AQA) and Religious Studies (Edexcel), 2011/12.

"James was very familiar with the curriculum and both his discussions with my son and the work set were of an appropriate and challenging level, set work was always marked and discussed at the following tutorial. My son received a good Distinction in his exams."
Mother of Pre-U Philosophy & Theology student (Cambridge), 2013.

"My daughter was unable to attend school due to illness, and so James was entirely responsible for her preparation. She received a Distinction in her exams. James was a diligent tutor, who managed to convey this difficult subject with a lightness of touch. I know that my daughter enjoyed her lessons enormously, and that she found it easy to learn from James. He not only imparted the necessary knowledge but also inspired her with confidence."
Mother of homeschooled Pre-U Philosophy & Theology student (Cambridge), who I taught the entire syllabus to in 2012/13.

"James was brilliant. Despite tutoring my two twin daughters at the same time, he adapted his teaching style to suit both of them differently. He made the whole course much easier for them to understand than they had found at school. Beyond this, he boosted their confidence and increased their essay writing skills. He provided a large amount of digital handouts which they also found useful. Both girls ended up with very high As in all the topics he taught them in."
Mother of twin daughters taught in Religious Studies (OCR) and Philosophy (AQA), 2012/13.

"...James covered far more content than the school had taught in a whole year and to a greater depth and understanding. His knowledge of the syllabus and ability to explain complex philosophical arguments and content, in a way that my daughter could understand, was second to none... put back a confidence in my daughter that had been partly destroyed in this subject due to poor teaching at school. I have never seen my daughter so relaxed and happy after taking an exam than she was after re-taking these two."
Mother of homeschooled candidate in Religious Studies (Edexcel), 2012/13.

Personal Description:
I began my combat training at thirteen at a local boxing club in Llanelli, learning the vital skills and discipline that have kept me working in the fitness and self-defence field for over ten years.

At the age of fifteen I joined the Cobra-Kai Freestyle Kickboxing Federation, and trained religiously under the regime of instructor Lee Martin (4th degree black belt). In 1997 I went on to win the European martial arts title (WUMA Federation), held at Cheltenham. On my return, and after numerous local newspaper photos and write-ups, I received the greatest honour any keen young martial artist dreams of: becoming a fully-fledged black belt.

Teaching Experience:

At the young age of 18, I opened my very own kickboxing club at Llanelli Leisure Centre, for all levels and ages. After showcasing my skills, not only as a martial artist but also a teacher, I received my 2nd degree black belt. Starting with just one weekly ninety-minute class, I now run four classes per week. Over the years I have helped created more than ten black belt students, two welsh champions and one British champion.

In 1997, I ran my first all women's self-defence class, training women of all ages and physical abilities. I continued my classes, eventually including mixed gender and young persons training.

After undergoing a series of courses from Securicare, Frontline, Venue security and BIIAB City and Guilds, I have become a Level 7 Conflict Management Trainer. I have worked alongside various organisations such as the NHS, covering the majority of hospitals and clinics throughout Carmarthenshire.

As well as training, I have since achieved my 4th degree black belt, opened my own one-to-one gym, and become an advanced level 3 personal trainer through Fitness Wales (REPs certified), teaching private lessons of fitness, weight training, martial arts, self-defence, Pilates, and much more.

Tutoring Approach:

Teaching has been a big part of my life from a very young age. It has given me great pleasure and accomplishment. At times I have found it difficult, but at the same time rewarding. I have always given it 100% and believe that to be a good teacher you must be able to learn from the positives and even the negatives.

Personal Description:
I am a fairly recent (but mature) graduate who is hugely enthusiastic about learning. For fun I like to dress up as a Tudor and take part in Living History events. I also very much like to take my slightly dopey dog to the beach where I regularly need to prevent her swimming to France!

Teaching Experience:

My first experience of teaching was through home-educating my daughter from when she was 6 through to GSCE-level. I then went on to do a PGCE in Lifelong Learning (post-16 education) during which time I taught a range of business and tourism modules. Since completing my PGCE I have completed short-term contracts teaching English as a Foreign Language. Presently, I work part-time as an enabler for physically and/ or mentally disabled students in higher education and part-time as a private tutor.I have experience tutoring adult learners, home-educated students (i.e. delivery of full syllabus) and students who are at school but need additional subject help, for example with exam preparation.

Tutoring Approach:

I understand how important it is to have a supportive and patient teacher who is willing to answer any question any number of times until the student 'gets it' and that's what I am always prepared to do. I think learning should be fun and relevant to our lives and endeavour to carry this over into lessons. The exact approach would always depend on the needs and wishes of the student.

Personal Description:
I am a 22 year old student at the University of Liverpool, studying French and Psychology, graduating in June 2015. I have studied Psychology at A-level and I have been able to speak fluent French from the age of 5, as I was in the French school system up until the age of 15.
I have lived in a number of different countries and have a lot of experience with getting to know new people in new environments. I am told that I am a friendly and approachable person, and I enjoy being able to help others whether this involves academic/school help or just being someone to talk to.
I am the eldest of 3 children and I am very responsible and organised.

Teaching Experience:

I have had some teaching experience, as my mother is a teacher I have been lucky enough to be able to have done some work experience with her in the various schools she has worked at over the years. I also have experience with homework tutoring for people in my own schools, as well as helping my own siblings with their homework/coursework.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very friendly and approachable person, making people feel welcome and that they can ask any questions they like in regards to subjects they do not fully understand. When tutoring, I make sure that every subject is covered thoroughly before moving on to the next level/topic.
I ensure that all tutees feel that they can take as much time and ask me as many questions as they like, as I believe that a friendly, non-pressured approach to tutoring is the approach which will produce much more efficient, beneficial results.

Personal Description:
I am a certified teacher of Spanish as a Foreign Language. In May 2012 I finished the Master de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria y Bachillerato, FP y Enseñanza de Idiomas in Spain, a program similar to a PGCE. I am also working on the dissertation on another master program that will qualify me as a teacher of Spanish as a Foreign Language. I enjoy Qualified Teaching Status since November 2012 and I am familiar with the English curriculum and the programme of study for KS3-4 in all aspects related to teaching Spanish as a MFL. I have taught Spanish to people of all ages and nationalities and also have classroom experience as a Chemistry Teacher (ages 15-16 and 17-18).

Teaching Experience:

I am an experienced professional with a strong academic background and I am confident that I can be a valuable asset to your school. To be part of your teaching team will be a fantastic opportunity for me because it will also give me the opportunity to embrace the British culture again.

I have worked very hard to become a good teacher. My grades have been outstanding and I am receiving very good feedback from my instructors. I have carried out the practical phase of the teaching programme (Master in Secondary Education) in the same high school that I attended many years ago. In this school I have been responsible for teaching Chemistry and Physics to over 60 students and I also implemented a social learning environment to support their learning which has received very good feedback from my students and the lead teacher. I have accrued more than 800 teaching hours to date. I have the skills required for a classroom teacher and also the specialised skills required for teaching a second language.

Tutoring Approach:

From my own experience, I believe that learning a new language is similar to opening a door into a world full of possibilities: traveling, getting a new job, meeting new people and, in general, becoming a stronger individual both personally and professionally. In my classes, I like to tap into that part of each of my students that is exited about learning a new language, because that motivation will lead them to succeed in my class.

As a language teacher I firmly believe that in order for the students to succeed, two things must be present in the classroom environment: trust and respect. I have a lot of experience as a language student, Spanish is my native tongue and I have learned English, German and a bit of French and I have struggled with that first phrase I wanted to say out loud thinking that I was going to make a mistake or that it was going to sound funny. I understand that not everyone learns a language at the same rate and speaking in a foreign language takes courage and self-confidence. Courage and self-confidence are supported by an environment of trust and respect. In my classroom there are always ground rules: we are all here to learn, we learn from each other and we must respect each other.

The other very important aspect for me is making sure that the level of proficiency is correctly assessed. If the classes are too challenging or too basic, a negative environment not conducive to learning is created. Even if proper evaluation is made before the groups are formed, there will always be differences inside the classroom. I, as a teacher, try to be as aware as possible of this factor and strive to use that for the good of the group. Pairing a strong student with someone not as strong usually helps. Another important issue that I try to be as aware as possible is preventing the strong students from taking over the exercises and leaving behind other students that, because of either lack of confidence or not being at the same level, stop themselves from actively participating in class. In my classes, I make sure that everyone is heard and that I can evaluate progress of all my students.

Personal Description:
I am currently a second year student in London School of Economics and Political Science. I major in Mathematics and Statistics, with dedicated spirit to enlighten my tutees with my knowledge of mathematics. During my A-Levels ( CIE board) , I scored A* in both Mathematics and Further Mathematics and also A in Physics. At the same period I also attended Euclid's Mathematics Competition and scored within the top 15 percentile. Besides, I have also developed many ways of understanding mathematics through readings and attending optional lectures , and I can't wait to share my excitement to bring my tutee along the journey in search of more and more "Eureka!" moments.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for 4 years since I was in my high school. During my A-Levels , I also joined the Tutor-Tutee program which I was assigned to a few tutees and I was responsible for their progress during the entire year. My recent experience in London was about 4 months ago right before the A-Levels exam, I taught a British-born Arabian within 2 months and managed to bring his grade up substantially ( from E/D to B) and earned him a place in University of Exeter.

Tutoring Approach:

Different from most teaching styles portrayed in class, I use different ways of explaining from either easy or intermediate levels to relate to specific chapters in the text book. While text books being the main course material, rather than asking my tutee to blindly remember all the formulas, I will teach them to derive all of them and understand the meaning implied within.
I strongly do not encourage remembering the questions from past year papers, instead , I will teach the very basic- the essence of specific chapters to understand and to master and this will arm my tutee with the ability to answer all type of questions during the exam. Also available for students with intermediate level seeking for advanced or intensive type of tutoring.

Personal Description:
I`m a 24 year old recent Physics graduate, based in Ascott (about 10 minutes from Chipping Norton). I`m patient, knowledgable and have a passion for the sciences!

I`m currently applying for a PhD in Nuclear Physics to start September 2017 and am working as a part-time private tutor in the meantime.

As part of my degree, I completed 3 years of studying, combined with a year of industrial research experience in Cambridge. Before this, I studied A-levels in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and History, in addition to 10 GCSEs.

Outside of work, I enjoy everything from football and tennis to hiking and rock climbing.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a freelance private tutor for almost two years now, working in both the West Yorkshire area (whilst attending University) and the Warwickshire/Oxfordshire areas (following the completion of my degree). My tutoring experience includes all three Sciences and Mathematics at Key Stage 2, Key Stage 3 and GCSE/iGCSE levels, along with Maths and Physics at AS/A2 and degree levels.

Alongside my Physics degree, I partook in an optional 10 month `Physics in Schools` placement - which saw me work as a part-time teaching assistant for Maths and Physics classes at a local secondary school. In addition to helping out during classes (lesson planning, 1-to-1 support, marking etc.), I also ran after school maths and science tutoring sessions for students struggling with the course.

In addition, for 12 months during my `Year in Industry`, I represented my employer as a "Young Engineer`s Ambassador" to local schools in the Cambridge area. Twice a week, alongside a team of 3, I helped demonstrate basic scientific, mathematical and mechanical engineering methods to classes of all ages - with the intention of inspiring the next generation of potential scientists. The sessions included presentations, 1-to-1 guidance and interactive group workshops.

Tutoring Approach:

Having struggled slightly with Maths at a young age and, as a result, having undertaken extra sessions (aged 11), I am a huge believer in the benefits that can come from 1-to-1 tutoring. I aim to create a balance between a fun, relaxed teaching atmosphere, where students can feel confident enough to fully engage in the material, and a secure structured teaching environment with a clear plan for the future. I employ a wide variety of teaching materials in order to keep notoriously dull content interesting and intuitive, whilst ensuring that no method, theory or equation is relegated to the realms of confusion and mystery.

Overall, I have a flexible teaching style and will always formulate a teaching plan using the input from the student, parent/guardian and myself, with detailed progress updates after each session so the client can feel confident they are getting their money's worth!
