I am a music tutor, composer and pianist based in South Wales. I have composed music for a number of professional organisations, ensembles and individuals as well as my own solo piano compositions.

I am part of a number of performance based projects. I am the keyboard player for 2Rude, a Ska tribute band. Past performance ventures include being the keyboard player for New Jersey, a Bon Jovi tribute band, working closely with a jazz vocalist on a number of music projects as well as work with other musicians.

Teaching Experience:

I have six years experience in music tuition, specialising in Piano, Theory and Composition. I had a teaching position at Forte School of Music for 3 years before I decided to commit to freelance music tutoring.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer fun and enthusiastic music lessons to pupils of all ages and abilities. I specialise in Piano, Music Theory (up to Grade 5) and Composition. I am also able to provide workshops and masterclasses. You can be taught in your own home (at an additional cost) or you can come to my home. From 2011 to 2016 I worked as a lecturer at the University of Westminster, receiving a prize for my efforts having been nominated by my students for teaching excellence.

I also have an excellent academic record, completing my PhD at the University of Westminster in 2016. Prior to this I studied politics, sociology and philosophy at the University of York and the University of Leeds. At Leeds I received a prize for the highest mark in my graduate year at Leeds and I was awarded scholarships to fund my studies at York and Westminster.

Besides my academic work, I've up to ten years of experience working as a researcher in public policy. I currently work for the NHS and have previously worked at think-tanks including the Work Foundation and the New Economics Foundation. I enjoy a range of hobbies, including the guitar and sports.

Teaching Experience:

I worked for five years experience as a lecturer at the University of Westminster and received a prize for my efforts. My role included lecturing, leading seminars, marking and providing pastoral support for students. I specialised in research methods and provided advice and support for students undertaking their dissertations.

Additionally, I have a TEFL qualification and before going to university I taught English for three months in Bolivia.

I am an experienced industrial chemist, having postdoctoral experience with Avecia and GSK. I then retrained as a teacher and have taught at all levels from school to University. My experience covers A-levels and Advanced Higher. I have six years teaching experience, which includes 3 years at FE colleges, 1 year at University and 2 years at secondary school. As a home tutor and online tutor I have two years experience. Some of my students needed A's to enter Medicine or veterinary medicine. With my help they pulled their grades up to get this. Other students just wanted to pass and sometimes they surprised themselves by getting B's. I have taught dyslexic students as they were struggling with traditional teaching at school or college. Hi, I'm Anna. I'm an author and a poet, I have had many poems published, won first prize in an international poetry competition (2011) and have also brought out two collections, which are on sale on Amazon. In 2015 I published my memoir A Hippopotamus at the Table. Set in South Africa in the 1970s. I'm currently writing my second memoir, about to publish a book on Writing Memoir and teaching a Memoir Writing class to small groups. Teaching Experience:

I taught in Adult Education at a variety of colleges for approximately 10 years (until 2000) - my main subject was Ancient Egyptian History - one of the colleges was Birkbeck University (University of London) I taught undergraduates. I ran a class for a number of years before that for City University on Ancient Egyptian History. For 6 years I taught Information Technology (seminars) at London Metropolitan University, to first year undergraduates. More recently (2000-2014) I worked in Criminal Justice delivering Cognitive Behavioural programmes to offenders and also on another programme supporting victims of violence.
I used to host language students for St Giles English Language school and also for a year taught TEFL one-to-one.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is Socratic in delivery, to draw from the student what they know, what their interests are and expand on that. I like to bring students to poetry, and know about poetry from a variety of cultures from Moslem (like Rumi, Omar Khayam) to French and Afro Caribbean writers. I think learning English should be broad and interesting and make people think. My teaching method is through a conversational approach, short written exercises for identifying strengths and weaknesses, building on strengths and working on areas that require a structured approach for improvement. Learning should be interesting and it should be fun.

I have always been a hardworking and conscientious student but more importantly I have made an effort to adapt and improve my approach to learning to meet the increasing demands that school and university brings. During my time at Cambridge I found the small-group-based supervisions to be the best way to test my own understanding of a topic and a great opportunity to seek answers to questions that had not been raised during class. The supervisors I most admired were those that were approachable, patient and knowledgeable; qualities I strive to embody in my own tutoring.

Teaching Experience:

I have many years of experience providing guidance, support and advice to students over a wide age range both in academic and extra-curricular settings.

During sixth form I was a senior student for the mathematics department tutoring students in year 7-9 at lunchtimes, in particular guiding them through assignments they had been unable to complete in class and taking the time to revisit topics they had found more challenging. I was also elected to be a prefect responsible for overseeing the welfare of a year 9 form throughout the academic year.

Whilst at Cambridge I took part in an e-monitoring scheme where I provided advice and guidance to a sixth form student applying to university from an access-targeted school. I also became a 'college parent' to three students in the year below whom I provided support to in their studies and general advice about university life.

More recently at Imperial I have volunteered with the 'Teddy Bear Hospital Scheme' helping to run interactive and fun workshops at local primary schools to educate children about the importance of health and challenge their fear of doctors. I also continue to help my five younger siblings with their homework and exam preparation, feeling a great sense of pride as I have watched each of them progress from primary to secondary school.

I am very excited to tutor students in the areas of mathematics and science, as well as help with university applications and entrance exams (UKCAT average = 790).

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that the best approach to tutoring is to work in partnership with the tutee in an environment that we both feel comfortable, ensuring an interactive and engaging session.

The teaching methods used will be adapted to every tutee, catering to the individual differences in learning approaches and pace. These could range from working through practice questions to test a tutee's knowledge, using diagrams to explain difficult concepts, to having an open and two-way discussion about a topic of interest. I would explore these specifics prior to and during the first session so that I could appreciate the needs of the tutee. In later sessions we can review the approach used and make changes if both the tutee and I feel this would be beneficial.

Whether a tutee is looking to understand the basics of topic they are struggling with or wanting to push themselves to excel in areas they are interested in I believe everyone can reach their potential and that is what I set out to do through my tutoring.

Personal Description:
I completed my PhD in History of Art at University College London (UCL) in 2013. I have published my research in a number of academic journals and edited book collections, and I am a practicing artist, permently based in Hulme, Manchester.

I am currently a Society Research Fellow at Cornell University Society for the Humanities (USA) for the academic year 2016-17, and will therefore only be available for Skype appointments until the end of July 2017.

Teaching Experience:

I am a fully trained secondary school teacher, specialising in Art & Design and Photography at KS3, KS4 & KS5. I have 9 years teaching experience, including working as a specialist Learning Support Teacher, and in Special Needs schools catering for children and young adults with a range of special educational needs, from moderate learning difficulties to profound and multiple disabilities.

I have particular expertise in studio practice (art and design), digital and darkroom photography (theory, history and practice), literacy, social and vocational skills, as well as History of Art, Anthropology and History of Medicine at undergraduate level.

I am also experienced in teaching at undergraduate level, having taught gallery-based first year History of Art courses, for University College London's History of Art Department, and on the History of Art degree programme at the University of Manchester.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a one-to-one, flexible approach to learning and teaching, which first establishes the needs and goals of the student, and then sets out clearly structured strategies for achieving these goals. These may be results-focused when preparing for exams, or aimed at developing a broader understanding of a subject area, depending upon the student's own priorities. I am happy to work with any course materials the student may provide, and I am familiar with all current GCSE and A Level syllabuses. I am able to guide both GCSE and A Level students through their studies, offering consistent, dedicated 1-2-1 tuition for the full term of the course. I can also provide practical tuition for students who are preparing their art portfolios for University submission, and can offer assistance with UCAS forms and references for students who undertake long-term A Level tuition with me.

Tutoring may take place at the student's home, or at my art studio in central Manchester, where I can provide a range of art materials and resources by prior arrangement, for more intensive practical art sessions. Please note that I can travel within 20 miles of central Manchester based on the fee structure quoted below, travelling further will incur a small additional fuel fee.

I have had recent successes with my private students, one of whom attended one-to-one sessions at my Manchester studio for 8 weeks and improved her predicted GCSE Art result of a B by two grades, achieving an A* in her final art exam. My most recent undergraduate student also attained a First overall in her History of Art degree, achieving a high score of 78 on her dissertation project, with intensive tutorial support conducted via Skype.

*Please note that due to the time-intensive nature of undergraduate level tutoring, I am only able to take on a maximum of three undergraduate tutees at any given time. Please see below for my current availability for tutoring at this level.*

Personal Description:
Hi, my name is Pri and I'm a qualified teacher with a degree in Mathematics. I've been rated 'outstanding' in my last teaching reports and was awarded a teacher training scholarship by the IMA. I also write GCSE Maths mark schemes for Create-A-Test (Technology in Education Ltd).

Teaching Experience:

My last placement was at a school in Lewisham where my mentor twice rated me an 'outstanding' teacher (i.e. OfSTED level 1). I taught Key Stages 3 and 4 as well as A-level. Prior to this I taught in Hertfordshire where I also led STEM workshops for Mathematics.

I previously worked as a full-time tutor in Cardiff, where I a large number of pupils between A-level and primary school age.

Tutoring Approach:

For long term tuition, I focus more on conceptual understanding rather than just procedural. In other words, pupils should be able to explain how to solve problems and why they use certain methods, rather than just doing it. This higher-level understanding has shown to be beneficial as pupils are able to apply their knowledge to solve a wider range of problems than they otherwise would.

Initially, we will seek to identify target topics where the tutee would most benefit from additional help. I will then create a tutoring plan which outlines the order in which we will cover key curriculum areas. I set regular homework to consolidate knowledge.
