Teaching Experience:

I am an experienced teacher, who has taught privately one to one for a number of years. I have primarily taught English on a one to one basis for tutees who are preparing for their GCSE and "A" level examinations, but I am also experienced in helping tutees improve their literacy skills from a young age. I also have a wealth of experience of teaching English as a Foreign language on a one to one basis. I have taught in a number of language schools over the years, and at one point started a language school in southern Italy. One to one teaching, by its nature, is very intense, so it is very important to introduce variety as much as possible. A mixture of written work, as well as oral work, if required is essential to keep the tutee focused and interested in what you are teaching. I have been a full-time professional tutor for over seven years and I teach maths and all science subjects from year 8 up to GCSE and for Common Entrance and Maths, Further maths, Physics and Chemistry to A-level.
I am an exam marker for the OCR exam board and I mark controlled assessments at a school in Ipswich.

Teaching Experience:

I initially started tutoring at university while I was doing my PhD and found that I had the ability to help pupils understand the underlying concepts of maths and physics. Instead of just giving my tutees the answers to questions, I always tried to provide interesting examples of the principles behind the topics being studied in order to give a deeper understanding of the subject.
I worked in IT for many years and started tutoring again after helping my daughters with their GCSEs and A-levels.
I have been a full-time tutor for over seven years. I have taught pupils from a wide variety of schools - including state, independent and boarding schools.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to ensure that my students have a good understanding of the underlying principles of the subjects. This ensures they can deal with a great variety of exam questions and enables them to get the best result possible.

I graduated with a degree in English from the University of Cambridge (Girton College) in 2008 and in 2010 completed a Masters in Medieval Literature and History at the University of York.

During both of my degrees, I took a number of papers in Latin language and literature.

I also have 'A' grades in A-level Latin, English Literature, History, and Politics. And (going back a few years now!) achieved 10 A* at GCSE.

I currently work in publishing.

Teaching Experience:

Since moving to London in 2010 I have tutored students preparing for public examinations in Latin, Politics, and English (both language and literature). I've had great success in helping students of a range of abilities improve subject confidence and achieve exceptional results.

During the academic year 2008-2009 I worked as a boarding house tutor at Sherborne International College. My duties included aiding the students with their academic work, P.E. teaching, English language teaching, and general pastoral care.

Let's face it, studying Latin can be difficult, but it is the challenge which makes it such a rewarding subject.

My approach to teaching Latin is to develop translation skills whilst reinforcing the key building blocks of grammar. I endeavour to work at the student's own pace and tailor my sessions to complement school work.

English:

I hope that my passion for English will encourage students to develop their own skills in the subject. I have spent the last 5 years of my life studying and responding to texts and enjoy sharing my knowledge and insight.

It is difficult to offer a single "approach to tutoring" as I believe the right teaching method depends entirely on the interests, level, and personality of the individual student.

I am happy to accept students preparing for GCSE, AS, or A level examinations. My philosophy is that exam success relies on a combination of close understanding of the text, ability to respond independently, and proper exam technique.

Interviews:

I am also available to tutor students preparing for university entrance interviews (in particular Oxbridge). Having experienced the process first-hand, I feel I am well positioned to offer meaningful advice on how a candidate can impress during the application and interview process. I am willing to conduct mock interviews.

I have been a private tutor in French since 2012.

I have worked with people of all ages and abilities from primary school children to adult learners.

I have helped many young people improve their level in French and achieve great results for their GCSE'S and A Level's.

I also taught evening classes with a private Language School for one year in 2012 and have gained an amazing experience in teaching. I am really enjoying sharing my knowledge and seeing my students improving, asking useful questions, and having fun after all, speaking a new language as if they had always known it.

Teaching Experience:

Seven years tutor experience with pupils from year 8 up to adult learners. The majority of my students have been studying for their GCSE's.

There are many teachers on here which may be perfect for some children as a tutor. I am not a qualified teacher however all of my previous students have selected me for that sole reason - so their child has a tutor and not a teacher to help them with their maths. They have all felt instantly relaxed with me, more inclined to ask questions and extremely driven to prove themselves.

Every child is different so it's explaining a topic in a way that makes sense to them rather then the way the teacher wants them to learn. If the child feels relaxed with the tutor they are more likely to understand something rather then just feel under pressure to say they understand.

I have a great amount of experience within the educational system. I have worked with a variety of students. Special needs students in both primary and secondary school settings. I have done a vast amount of work with pupils with self-esteem issues and challenging behaviour. In addition, working with gifted and talented students.

I have taught Drama to both GCSE and A-level students, I have supported students through course work and controlled assessment.

Media and English have been taught up to GCSE.

I have worked in various schools in Sheffield and Birmingham.

I am currently teaching English and Drama in a secondary school in Warwickshire.

Tutoring Approach:

To work with the student on identifying the areas in which their are struggling to reach their full potential and why. Whether it is because they are struggling to understand or they lack in confidence in the particular subject. I would then work with the student to build the gaps in their knowledge and build confidence through interactive and individual learning. A combination of both styles of learning secures knowledge and the belief that the student has the knowledge.

The students progression will be monitored through continual assessment.

The student will also be a part of self-assessment to recognise their own needs and development.

Tutoring Approach:

For school level: I have a friendly and informal style, based on building up a good relationship with the pupil, as this is the real advantage of the one-on-one set-up. Classes are structured, but I adapt things based on the situation and diverge from the lesson plan if necessary. I also work extensively with past and mock papers because I think practice is the best way to learn. Finally when I take on a pupil I am committed - if the pupil has problems or needs help between lessons I'm happy to be contacted via email.

For university level: I take an ad hoc approach depending on the student - I also like to keep things fun and informal. Particularly in essay subjects, I emphasise the need for a clear argument and structure, attributes highly valued at UK universities.

I'm currently studying mechanical engineering at the University of Birmingham. I have been a tutor for almost three years now and I've greatly enjoyed working with every client I've taught.

Teaching Experience:

I first starting tutoring at my high school when asked to participate in a scheme to help students in lower years who were struggling with GCSE Maths. I have since worked for a company called Explore Learning where I taught Maths and English to students age 5 to 14 years old. I worked with Explore Learning for a year and appreciate the skills I gained there. For the past few years I have tutored privately and had overwhelmingly positive feedback from clients.

I am a qualified high school teacher with 18 years' experience of teaching English, Media Communication, Drama and Study Skills to 11-19 year olds. I have held the posts of Head of Drama, Director of Creative Arts and I have led teaching and learning across a range of senior leadership roles, including Principal. I previously worked for the BBC and was awarded a BAFTA for my role in a TV documentary series. I am educated to Masters degree level and hold a 2:1 Bachelor of Arts degree in Digital Media, Politics and Performing Arts. Prior to entering the teaching profession, I gained industry experience in marketing with Lego UK Ltd. I live in Wrexham, North Wales with my young family and I count playing guitar, filmmaking, photography, cricket and graphic design as my main interests.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is characterised by the following commitments I make to every learner I have the privilege of working with:

The Study Skills coaching I offer can help resolve a wide range of common issues that can be barriers to effective learning.If you answer 'yes' to one or more of the following questions, study skills coaching could well be an investment that brings real value to your child and their future:

- Is your child frequently getting detentions for forgetting homework or being late?

- Does your child become anxious around examination periods?

Flexible, personalised programmes can commence at any point during the year.

The first session is essential for the success of the programme going forward. In this session, we evaluate current learning strengths and weaknesses in the individual student. In order to get a full picture of the student's learning priorities, we undertake the following activities to determine areas for improvement and the best conditions for success:

- reflections from the student on how they feel about their learning experience
- a learning survey - it's good fun and gives the child/student a really useful exercise in self-reflection
- analysis of recent written reports which contain teacher comments and grades recording attainment, effort, attitude to learning, punctuality, etc. School reports can vary in format so it may be that not all this detail is available
- we ask that a parent/teacher is involved for the duration of this first session to provide their own reflections on the learning profile of the child
- completion of a personalised learning contract whereby the child/student, parent/teacher and coach agree on the required conditions needed for the child/student to be successful during the programme.

Personal Description:
Hi, I have recently graduated from Leeds University with a 2:1 honors in Geography and now pursuing postgraduate study in Environmental Economics.

I am passionate about geography primarily, but as it is such an eclectic course i have done much undergraduate study in economics, politics, sociology as well as other social sciences and humanities. I also studied Geography, Economics and History at A-level and Maths to AS level so have knowledge in these areas and can try and help out in any other subjects where i can.

Teaching Experience:

The majority of my previous experience has been on the receiving end from teachers, tutors and professors throughout my education. I therefore feel i can draw from these and create a constructive learning environment from my experiences.

Tutoring Approach:

As i have experienced many of the exam boards in which you may be struggling with i can relate to the issues and help work through them and explain from a couple of different approaches on a 1:1 basis. As a younger tutor i feel i can build a stronger bond with a student closer to my own age and inspire them to gain an interest in what i am teaching which is an experience lacking in many schools.
