Personal Description:
Thank you for reading my profile. I currently lecture at the University of Salford. I am a visiting lecturer at the University of Cambridge and an external examiner at the University of Liverpool .I am also an assessor for OCR Biology GCSE/A Level and for academics undergoing their teaching qualifications. In 2015 I was nominated by my students for best teacher and best postgraduate supervisor and in 2016 and again in 2017 I was nominated again for best teacher. I offer tuition at my home and some on line support. I have twenty years of experience of teaching. I began working as a private tutor seven years ago. This role gives me the freedom to get to know students on an individual basis and adapt to suit their needs and offers an incredible amount of job satisfaction. Please note however that if you are a student at the University of Salford I will be unable to offer private tuition due to a conflict of interest.
In 2015 I was invited to guest lecture and take on the role of medical director of studies at Cambridge, lecturing to medical students at Corpus Christi College. A post to which I shall return in 2016 I completed my PhD in rheumatology in 2009 at the University of Central Lancashire. Privately I mainly teach Biology, science, PE and study skills.I am also able to assist with other health related topics.
Prior to working within education I was a Chartered Physiotherapist within the NHS for 13 years at hospitals in my local area, achieving Senior I grade. During this time I assumed the role of Clinical Educator for students of Physiotherapy thus beginning my teaching career. While working within the NHS I was also the Physiotherapist to the England Women's football team for three years. This was a unique and memorable experience and I was immensely proud to represent my country, working with such talented individuals both at home and during tours of countries including France, Denmark, Italy, Iceland, Bulgaria, and the Soviet Union. I am an internationally published author, having written and edited eight textbooks which have been translated into eleven languages, covering subjects as diverse as anatomy, assignment writing, study skills and health studies. I have been an external examiner at the Universities of East London, and Bradford for postgraduate study and currently the University of Liverpool on their undergraduate physiotherapy programme . This role includes monitoring marking quality, exam board actions ,modifications to syllabus and teaching and learning consultancy.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring privately for several years now. I began teaching in a professional capacity whilst working in a hospital environment where I became a Clinical Educator for undergraduate Physiotherapy students from Universities in the region. This role involved teaching and training undergraduate students within hospitals. Eventually my enthusiasm for teaching overtook that of my day job and I began teaching at Salford University on a part time basis, becoming a full time member of staff within the School of Health Sciences in 1996. I am the longest serving member of staff in the department and enjoy my job, and the interaction with students, as much now as when I first began teaching. Please note that if you are a student at the University of Salford I will be unable to offer private tuition due to a conflict of interest.

Teaching at a university entails a range of teaching methods including lecturing to hundreds of students, small and large group seminar-based sessions and a mix of theory and practical skills. Since 1998 I have been the Year One tutor which involves a pastoral element as many students are having their first experience of independence away from friends and family.

As a private tutor both in my own home and in the tutees home I mainly focus on one to one tuition which I find hugely rewarding as I am able to dedicate unwavering attention to the tutee and their chosen subjects. I have experience of teaching students from diverse backgrounds and ranging in age from 14 years to 50 years.

In 2009 I won the first ever Teaching Excellence Award at Salford University, and the following year was nominated for the Times Educational Innovative Teacher Award - both nominated by my students, a fact of which I am extremely proud.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a friendly and informal approach to teaching as I believe a relaxed environment is most conducive to learning regardless of subject or age, however i am aware that privvate tuition is a serious commitment and it is very important that there is a clear structure to the sessions. I am familiar with the syllabus for OCR, AQA and EDEXCEL for G.C.S.E., A level and degree. The first session will include an informal discussion with parents/tutee to gain an understanding of the tutees requirements and to explain my role and how I can aid learning.
The structure of the sessions are largely dictated by the tutee, the subjects they wish to focus on and their preferred learning style and this can be discussed at the first session. As the student develops, the structure can be adapted in line with this.


Additional Information

While I prefer to teach in my own home under certain circumstances I may be able to travel to the student. This will be subject to the inclusion of travelling costs in addition to the tuition fee. This will be undertaken by prior arrangement; please indicate your requirements on initial contact.

Personal Description:
Hi! I'm an Oxford graduate with a 2:1 in English Language and Literature. I graduated in 2013 and went on to study an MSc in Psychology at Oxford Brookes, in which I achieved a distinction. Since then, I have been working as an administrator and looking for ways to continue to engage with the subjects that interest me. Tutoring appealed to me at once as a rewarding way to put the skills that I learnt during my degree and masters to good use. Reading English at Oxford has honed my critical thinking, analytical abilities and study skills, while my masters has given me experience in data analysis and conducting research. In 2012 I also co-wrote a novel which was recently published in the UK, which really deepened my understanding of how to write effectively. I'd love to tutor others and help them to develop these skills too! In my spare time, I like to read and write fiction. My main address is in AL7, but I am also happy to tutor in Barnet and the surrounding area. As well as tutoring, I also specialise in editing, copy-editing and proofreading academic essays, job applications and CVs, and articles.

Teaching Experience:

I have successfully completed an assessment for the selective tutoring agency Blue Tutors. During the assessment I had to demonstrate my tutoring ability to a trained assessor, who described my communication skills as 'excellent'.
In my final term at Oxford, I volunteered with Schools Plus, a program which runs after school tuition sessions for struggling students in areas of economic disadvantage. I spent half a term working with GCSE English students, tutoring them on an individual basis in the run up to their January modules. As part of the selection process for the program, I also attended tutoring training.
When I was in the 6th form (in 2009), I also volunteered as a classroom assistant in my school. I was working with students who were having difficulty with essay-based subjects like History and English. I worked with two students in their History classes, helping them to understand the work they were set in class and working through it with them. I had to use my knowledge of French to help one student who had not yet learnt to speak fluent English, translating the teacher's instructions for her and helping her with words she did not understand. Between 2009-10, I helped to run two after-school classes for Key Stage 2 pupils, one in Literacy and Art and another in Drama. This involved planning and delivering lessons to classes of about 5-10 children, and keeping them engaged with the topics they were learning through activities designed to both teach and entertain.

Tutoring Approach:

My experience of tutoring in the past has shown me the importance of patience and respect in teaching. Especially in essay-based subjects, it is crucial that a teacher allows their pupils space to develop their own ideas, and respects their independent thought. Learning by rote has only limited usefulness: the best way to excel at a subject is to understand it, so I always explain concepts as fully as possible and move at the tutee's pace, making sure that they have properly grasped each concept or issue before moving on to the next. My Schools Plus training emphasised the idea that the goal of tutoring is to help a student to help themselves, enabling them to tackle problems rather than solving things for them. I think that this is fantastic advice, and it is a rule which I always try to bear in mind when tutoring.

I teach maths one-to-one, in small groups and in whole classes at several secondary schools in Tyne and Wear as well as at further education colleges, covering all ages up to A level.

Tutoring Approach:

I enjoy explaining maths at all levels of ability and get real satisfaction from connecting at the student`s level. I believe I`m good at recognising what that level is and being able to adjust my explanations accordingly. I`m pretty relaxed and like my students to feel comfortable during our sessions. I have lived in London for the past 10 years. I previously lived and studied in Milan, Italy where I obtained my university degree. For a short while I also lived in Lausanne, Switzerland, where I did some of my studies. I have tutored students in both Milan and London, face-to-face as well as online, and have helped them improve in the subject matters they struggled with.
I get on well with people of all ages and backgrounds. I take the time to find the right studying approach that works for each tutee to ensure they pick up the material as effectively as possible. My goal in tutoring is to help tutees understand and learn the material in the easiest way so they can improve their knowledge without feeling it as a burden.

Teaching Experience:

I have previously taught English as a foreign language, Italian and French to children aged 9-13, teenagers and adults. My tutees markedly improve their knowledge and manage to fill the gaps and prepare for exams or achieve the desired grade. In my experience it takes tutees 1-2 months to notice a difference and 3-6 months to feel more confident with the language, though of course this depends on commitment levels and the difficulty experienced by the person.

Tutoring Approach:

The most important thing for me is to find out where specifically the tutee has difficulties or gaps with the subject. I also take into consideration how a student normally studies to work out what approach works best for them.
I am a strong believer in using a calm approach in tutoring as it is most effective to help set in the knowledge and achieve best results.

I am a very capable linguist, whose knowledge has a particular depth to it, having studied French, German, Latin and English Literature at A Level. This level of expertise stems from a natural love for these subjects, and this passion is a great asset for a tutor to have.

As I teach, I am able to focus on the exact components of the subject which it is necessary to know for the examination being taken, so that everything I teach is of the utmost relevance. Personal Description:
I am a third year medical student at Imperial College London. I am very approachable and patient when it comes to working with kids. Having only just left school and achieved excellent results in both GCSE's and A-levels, I know what it requires to bring the best out of a pupil, and that with hard work and the belief that you can do well, that anyone can go on to achieve their ambitions exceptional grades. Having also only recently entered medical school, I understand their requirements extremely well, and can assist with UKCAT (my score: 740) and BMAT (My score: 6.7, 6.5, 4A) revision as well as working on interview and the UCAS application.

Teaching Experience:

Having recently been recruited by keystone tutors, I have had some extra training with regards to the different approaches with different pupils. Since joining university, I am now assisting 8 students with their studies, all of varying levels and take pride in watching them improve over the past few months. The age group varies from doing the 11+ test all the way up to A-level sciences and maths. Having helped a couple of them with GCSE's last year, they improved from a C to an A in their sciences and achieved A*s in Maths. During my A-levels, I was biology and maths prefect, so every week I would run drop-in clinics for year 10 pupils to help with areas they didn't quite understand. Having had some very influential teachers throughout secondary school, I tried to emulate them when tutoring these students. I am fully aware of how beneficial a one-to-one session can be and look to bring the best out of the pupils.

With regards to medicine, I was president of Medic Society during my last year, which involved informing pupils in the younger years about the application process as well as giving them interview and UCAS application preparation. They all found it incredibly useful and have all received offers from medical schools since.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching style is based around this motto. My sessions are as interactive as possible, explaining complex ideas in inspiring and interesting ways, making it simple to understand. I believe in setting a good base on which to build upon and then tackling exam questions and focusing on exam technique. Nothing is easy and I do expect the child to work hard in order to understand certain aspects, at the same time I am not stern.

Something I certainly found extremely confidence-building was learning beyond the restrictions of the course guide so that I walked into the exam hall relaxed, knowing that I had excess knowledge, and that the examiners could throw any question at me. It will also help the child's understanding if they do intend to carry on the subject.

Of course I would not pile on too much information if the child does feel he/she is struggling, and would work at a pace they feel is comfortable.
Most important thing though, above all else, is to have fun and enjoy what you are learning.

For potential medicine students, I can provide tips and questions for BMAT and UKCAT practice. There are certain tips that are effective which I can provide. Along with this, I can prepare you for the various different university interviews, having experienced all of the ones which I applied for; Cambridge, Imperial College, St Andrews and Aberdeen. Another important field is the personal statement and I can help to improve it as well as relay it to other contacts I have to proof read it and offer constructive criticism.

My name is Danny and I am a PhD student in the Faculty of Engineering and Environment, Northumbria University. I have been receiving the scholarship from the university to do the research on micro mechanics and novel materials. Using a lot of engineering knowledge, I'm confident in encouraging young people going ahead with STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).

Teaching Experience:

Going back to the time before my PhD course, being a tutor on Maths and Physics since I was an undergraduate student, I helped many GCSE students (i.e. KS2 and KS3) improve their grades. I'm now revising the combined sciences for some Year 11 students who're taking the exam soon. In addition, I got many experiences in lecturing in the university of Technology and Education (I worked as an assistant lecturer in 2010-2011, right after my graduation, and a lecturer in 2012-2014).

Tutoring Approach:

Various methods can be applied depending on each student, but the general approach is connecting all the lessons on the same topic to a common picture. To do that, I usually explain the relevant concepts visually and link them together. In addition, a variety of examples will be provided to clarify the lessons. Some advanced questions will be supplied to develop their knowledge.
