| Personal Description: Hi there, my name is Mohammed and I run a tuition centre based in West Bromwich. At our centre, our sole aim is to enrich the value of our pupils education; we passionately want them to succeed academically, aspire to be the best they can be and walk away with confidence in their own potential. Our teaching environment is safe, caring and conducive to learning. Our focus is our pupils and our teaching and learning programmes revolve around their unique and individual needs. We run the following study programmes: * Weekly small group tuition (from 10 per hour) * Weekly one to one tuition (from 25 per hour) > at the centre > at a pupils home * Combined English/Maths booster classes (from 10 per hour) The above study programmes are offered for the following subjects: * 11+ Entrance Exams * Primary (years 3, 4, 5 and 6) English, maths and science * Secondary (years 7, 8 and 9) English, maths and science * SATs preparation for primary and secondary (English and maths) * GCSEs (years 10 and 11) English, maths and science * AS and A2 Levels (biology, chemistry, physics and maths) We're passionate about raising achievement for all pupils and offer a free, no obligation initial assessment and feedback for all interested parents. For pupils who end up joining one of our various programmes, we fully refund any fees paid to First Tutors as a thank you gesture from us. |
Teaching Experience: Our tutors provide passion which delivers results; they are experienced teachers who have an in depth understanding of the education system within their subject specialism and are aware of key requirements of the National Curriculum. Our tutors teach full time during the academic year, they are dedicated and enthusiastic professionals with excellent track records in raising achievement and attainment. All our tutors provide us with references and they are fully vetted via the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) for your peace of mind. |
Tutoring Approach: Our tutors only teach their specialism, so you would not have a maths teacher teaching your child English as we don't believe the quality would be adequate. We have seven different teachers who work with us and as a result we can offer anything ranging from primary English to A-Level Chemistry. Our most popular programme from the above list is the English and maths booster classes. Pupils study 1 hour of English followed by 1 hour of maths every week, ensuring pupils get valuable support for the two most important subjects within the National Curriculum simultaneously and on a weekly basis. In these booster classes similar aged and levelled children are taught by an experienced teacher and where necessary with help from a teaching assistant in groups of no more than 6 pupils. The lessons are planned to the individual needs of the individual pupils and as our group sizes are so small, we ensure that each and every pupil receives individual attention. The programme structure guarantees parents get excellent value for money and more importantly pupils get constant ongoing support for two key subjects. This tuition programme is 2 hours long and the session only cost 11 per hour with discounts available when siblings attend the tuition centre. We offer most other subjects and have a varied number of different programmes to meet individual needs. Please get in touch and we would be happy to see how we can help. |

| Personal Description: I am French, and I am currently finishing an MSc in Economic History at the London School of Economics. I have lived in England for 7 years now, 3 years between the age of six and nine, and three years between 18 and 21 doing a BA in Contemporary History and Political Sciences at Sussex University in Brighton, which I completed with a 1st class degree. I was in an international school in France, and took the French Scientific Baccalaurat ("mention bien", equivalent to Honors) as well as A-Lavels in English Literature and History and Geography (both with an A). I also have a Masters degree in Development Economics from Sciences Po Paris (the number one social sciences school in France). |
Teaching Experience: I have taught Maths and English to french pupils in secondary school a few years ago. I have not taught since. Nonetheless, studying at University and following high level seminars has given me a good idea on how different topics must be taught in different ways, for instance having clear, comprehensive and numerous exercises works well to learn absolute sciences such as maths or languages, whereas history requires much more personal work from the student to allow him to him to develop his opinions while the tutor should provide a methodological framework. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe each student has different needs, different weak and strong points, learns in a personal way and thus needs a personalized teaching when possible. It is important to excite the student's curiosity about a topic rather than force the knowledge into him, which in the long run will disgust him of this topic and prevent him from learning it thoroughly. A warm and friendly environment always help as well, and I believe I can provide just that. |

| Personal Description: I am a doctoral researcher at the University of Bristol, examining human and animal behaviour and psychology. Before coming to Bristol I completed a Masters course in Biology (Integrative Bioscience) at the University of Oxford, having previously gained first class honours in Natural Science (Zoology) at the University of Cambridge. In addition to this biologically centred University Education I have recent (2004) A-levels in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Fine Art. So, I am very used to being in an academic environment and understand the needs of students at different levels of their education. I am always very happy to share the knowledge and understanding that I have picked up with others. |
Teaching Experience: I teach part time on the Veterinary Science and Animals Behaviour and Welfare undergraduate courses at the University of Bristol, alongside my PhD research into human and animal behaviour and psychology. I have previously tutored students in preparation for A-level, AS-level and GCSE exams in Biology and mathematics for private individuals and as a county council employee. I have also helped to prepare A-level students for (successful) interviews at Oxbridge colleges, and am keen to widen my teaching experience. |
Tutoring Approach: Firstly I would like to discuss with the student what they are hoping to gain from the tuition and then explore their current level of understanding in order to plan what would most benefit them. The tuition will probably consist mainly of discussion that engages the student's imagination and understanding of the subjects and highlights areas that might require improvement. Practical exercises will then be used where appropriate, with critical appraisal of the student's work. The tuition may be geared towards some particular goal (exams/interviews etc.) and in this case the desired end result will of course be kept in mind. |

| Personal Description: I am a 41 year old teacher/tutor living in Alfreton, Derbyshire. I work in the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire areas. I have 12 years teaching and tutoring experience. I also work as an artist, selling work, photography and jewellery from my website. I own a 1973 VW campervan and enjoy attending VW events, gigs and shows in it year round. Travelling inspires my photography and my current portfolio can be seen at: I am currently nursing a rescue dog/training it to walk again after a spinal injury and have recently rehomed another lurcher from a rescue centre |
Teaching Experience: I have always tried to encourage the traditional values of high self-esteem, good behaviour, treating others as we would ourselves and responsibility and enjoyment of learning, amongst all of the children in my care. I think love of learning - in other words, enjoying an activity so much we are almost unaware that we are learning, is at the heart of excellent teaching and learning. I always try to plan creative, engaging activities with lots of hands-on engagement, that enable learners of all levels, to take responsibility positively and empower themselves in the enjoyment and "flow" of their learning. Being a member of the temporary governing body, when two schools amalgamated, gave me an insight into the structure of governors meetings, a new understanding and respect for the role of governors, it enabled me to communicate, liaise and bring together members of staff from both school, to form a new staff and connected me with concerns from the local community, at a time of change and potential upheaval for some pupils. As the Creative Curriculum Coordinator at my last school, I led a staff INSET of approaches to integrating the Creative Curriculum within planning, teaching and learning. In my own planning and teaching, I enjoy teaching objectives, subjects and skills in variety of For example, I used a practical rhyme; "What's the time Mr Wolf?" to teach time through Primary Languages (French) in an active, kinaesthetic way. The playground game added to the children's weekly recommended physical activity, inspired them to approach their follow up work, back in class, in an enthused way and was marked by the observing LEA Inspector as "excellent". Throughout my teaching experience, I have held language, dance, and art clubs. I have over 11 years of full time teaching experience in a variety of schools, from a multicultural/multi-ethnic school, to church schools and working abroad in an independent school, teaching children from many differing backgrounds, ages and abilities. I specialised in Creative Arts and also have an Arts background, which I still pursue, in terms of exhibiting artwork and making jewelry, which I find enriches my teaching. However, I have also have had a wide experience of coordinating other subjects, and in my last post coordinated many subjects, including Primary Languages, Geography, History, Music, Art & DT. Previous posts have included coordination of Literacy and PE. I have worked with outside agencies, such as subject consultants, and SEN specialists and taken on roles in addition to "class teacher", such as teacher governor and Rounders Secretary. Supply teaching has also enabled me gain experience with a wide range of ages, backgrounds and cohorts of children and ensure I am flexible and creative with teaching approaches. I relocated to Derbyshire in November 2006 and bought a house in Alfreton. Since moving, I have been in full time work and have been able to take advantage of in school inset training and courses, to keep my professional knowledge up to date. I have mentored teaching students and enjoyed this role. I have also liaised with outside visitors such as drama companies, work-related initiatives, visiting poets, etc. I have experience of working in a special school with children with severe special needs and working with SEN children within mainstream schools (including Cerebral Palsy, Hydrocephalus/Spina Bifida, ADD, ADHD, emotional and behavioral problems, pupils with English as a second language and refugees with no initial english). |
Tutoring Approach: I like to assess where the pupil is starting from and how they feel about themselves as a learner, before empowering them to move on to the next step in their learning. I enjoy involving the pupil in their own assessment and planning relevant, fun activities that foster a feeling of success and enjoyment as a learner. Homework is often used to reinforce key aspects of learning or as preparation for the next lesson. |

| Personal Description: I am a student in my penultimate year working towards a bachelor degree in Actuarial Science at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).I am a native speaker of Chinese and very strong at mathematics.I like playing basketball, swimming and tennis. With a sense of humor,i can always easily make friends and make my friends feel happy.I would like to help some junior students improve their skills in mathematics, chemistry, physics and Chinese. |
Teaching Experience: I was involved in the Asian languages study programme organised by Kent College Canterbury where I studied my A-levels.I was teaching Chinese every Wednesday afternoon. Many local students were very interested in Chinese and they felt that this programme was very useful. I had also assisted my A-levels mathematics teacher in teaching mathematics to students studying GCSE.My duty was to answer their questions during my 'office hour' at a classroom. Most students felt very satisfied with my answers and my teacher was really pleased with me. |
Tutoring Approach: My teaching will base on my tutee's text books taught by their schools.I will help them revise what they have learnt in the last lesson and guide them to do exercises on books.I am focused on their understanding of knowledge rather than the ability to do exercises.I will set an small test every two weeks to examine how well they have mastered the knowledge. |

| Personal Description: I'm 28 years old and I am currently studying my masters in International Politics at Manchester University. I have been living overseas for the last 4 years. I have been teaching in Korea and Thailand. I have travelled extensively throughout Asia and I have lived in America for a year, so I have a great understanding of foreign cultures and how to empathise with people. |
Teaching Experience: I have been teaching English as a foreign language for almost 3 years. I have a 120 hour TEFL International qualification from Thailand. I have taught in 2 different language schools in Korea. At the first school, I taught from Elementary Students to adults. I taught from beginner to advanced with classes ranging from five to thirteen students. We used a variety of materials from textbooks to movies and music to aid with learning. I also taught a manager of Korea Gas as he prepared to go and live overseas in Oman. In my second school the work was similar, but as the school was new I helped devise the curriculum and decide which materials would be suitable for younger children. I also taught for Studio Cambridge this summer in Bishop's Stortford. We taught lessons, helped organise activities, took children on trips and looked after their pastoral care. The summer school gave me my first introduction to classes with different nationality students rather than simply mono-lingual students, so it gave me a new incite into teaching. |
Tutoring Approach: I like to think I am a laid back individual and I want the students to feel relaxed in the learning environment. I will ask them want they want to learn inparticular and create suitable work based on their needs. I will try to use a variety of things from worksheets, to movies, to games to try to help the students focus on their work. I try to make the work goals achievable for both me and the student. The work should ultimately be fun and not seem like work as the best way to learn. The key to being a good teacher is to engage the students and be enthusiastic and provide a variety of materials and classes. |
