| Personal Description: I was a Kitchener Scholar at the University of Cambridge, where I read Law at Trinity College, and was awarded the Philpott Prize, and I took a second degree with the Open University, where I read Mathematics and Physics and won the Leslie Walshaw award for being the highest scoring student in Yorkshire, with an average examination score of 100%. |
Teaching Experience: I have been teaching for 17 years, at top-ranking schools in both the UK and USA, including Charterhouse in Surrey and Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. I have been an examiner for all of the major examining bodies. I have an Enhanced Disclosure Certificate obtained through City of York Council, which means that I have been checked by the Criminal Records Bureau. I was formerly a governor of a top-performing specialist Maths and Computing comprehensive school in York, where I set up and ran the maths club. |
Tutoring Approach: I am passionate about mathematics and love teaching it. While I understand that students and their parents are usually looking for a tutor to improve their grades (and my students do get high grades) I also believe it's important to concentrate on understanding as well as learning. Exam success is greatly helped by understanding where the mathematics comes from and how it is used. My style is to make the subject as simple and as enjoyable as possible. |

| Personal Description: Hello! I am Russian. I have been living in the UK for five years. Languages are my passion - the way the worlds and sentences are built and work is entirely fascinating. Apart from that I try to travel as much as possible - over Yorkshire and UK in general. Walking and exploring countryside with my camera is another my favourite pastime. |
Teaching Experience: I was working as an English language teacher in Russia for nearly 25 years before I moved to England. I taught English to the students of all levels from the age 7 to 17. |
Tutoring Approach: I am familiar with language teaching methodology and am able to use appropriate teaching procedures in order to help my students learn Russian. I prefer to take into account my students' individual thinking and feeling towards the subject to enable him/her to achieve better results. To ensure as much practical experience in using language as possible is my priority. |

| Personal Description: I have been living in South Kensington for 6 years, working as a teacher and as a student myself. I came to London to study for a Masters in Russian Literature at UCL. Literature is a great love and my aim in teaching is to share and explore with students of both literature and language the intricacy and depth of the English language. The teachers that make the greatest impression and whose classes remain with you are those who transmit their enthusiasm and it is very much my intention that classes should be an enjoyable and engaging experience with an emphasis on what the student needs support with. The aim is to build confidence with the class that will carry itself outside of, and sustain itself away from the one-to-one class dynamic. My approach to singing teaching is much the same. I want singing classes to be a relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable time, exploring the vocal abilities of students in whatever capacity they require. I do focus on technique for at least part of every class as good technique is the foundation for vocal flexibility, confidence and ease, but we always leave plenty of time to cover a wide range of repertoire pieces chosen by students and myself. |
Teaching Experience: 1997-2000 - English Coach whilst a literature student at Leeds University. Private GCSE English students from local private school. Focus on exam preparation and coursework support. 2001 - Trinity TESOL teaching qualification. Taken on as an English teacher at the school where I trained. Taught multi-level classes to students of all levels. 2001-2004 English teacher at 'The English Studio' in Shepherd's Bush. Taught classes of all levels and all ages from children to adult. Beginner to proficiency level. Exam preparation. 2004-2006 Tutor in English Literature, Language and Singing for tutoring agency 'Top tutors' based in London. Taught students preparing for key-stage, A-level and A2 level, focus on exam preparation and coursework support. Taught adults and children singing. 2001-2007 Teaching private clients of all ages and abilities singing. Focus on bel canto technique to extend range, build strength and vibrato, increase performance technique and prepare for exams where required, or just singing for pleasure! |
Tutoring Approach: I have been teaching English Literature and Language for about 10 years now, both in the classroom and one-to-one. My attitude to learning is very much guided by student engagement; learning can be a great pleasure at any age in a supportive environment where a student feels they are covering useful, pertinent and relevant ground. I try to make one-to-one classes as student specific as possible so that rather than unnecessarily repeating what has already been covered in the classroom, tutoring time is spent filling in any gaps or supporting any elements of the course that may represent a challenge. I want my students to feel confident that they are in control of their knowledge and learning. whilst assisting them to the best of my abilities to fulfill their highest potential. This is also true of my attitude to teaching singing. Music, which can and should be a relaxing and enjoyable pastime, too often becomes an added stress in the educational timetable. Feeling pressured and unsupported is in fact deeply counter-productive to working and freeing up the voice and can leave children and young adults with a lasting bad impression of music and their own musical abilities. My aim is to make lesson time challenging and fun, creating an unintimidating environment where students can approach vocal technique in as rigorous or relaxed a fashion as is required. Some students flourish with the direction of working towards an exam, others work better within a less structured approach. My intention is that both English and Singing classes should reflect the individual needs of students and that my role is to support them in the ways that they need to make lesson time productive, enjoyable and confidence building, whatever the age, ability or learning requirements presented. |

| Personal Description: I am a hard-working but also fun and bubbly student. I really enjoy to work with children and find it very rewarding - both educating and caring for them. I am a patient person and have good organisational skills. As a speech and language therapy student, I have particularly good interpersonal communication skills and show empathy towards children when appropriate. In my spare time, I love to socialise with my friends, go to the cinema and of course, shopping. |
Teaching Experience: I spent three weeks working in a school through a programme called the Student Associate Scheme. During this period, I assisted the teacher, carried out one to one work with pupils and also work in small groups, and prepared resources for lessons. I also planned and carried out a number of my own lessons successfully, set the children work and provided them with appropriate support throughout. Furthermore, as a Speech and Language Therapy student, I have often assumed a teaching role as a leader in a variety of speech and language based groups, but also as a therapist to individual children - teaching them specific techniques and eradicating negative behaviours. I have had lots of experience with children through babysitting/nannying, voluntary work and university placements. |
Tutoring Approach: Although this is my first time tutoring, I have had a number of jobs and taken on a number of roles similar to that of a tutor. For example, I have been working with a child with special needs and I plan fun and interactive activities to encourage her to use her communication skills, whilst educating, reinforcing her current knowledge and also, helping her make progress. I would therefore have a similar approach to tutoring - ensuring the child is benefiting from the lesson without it being tedious or tiring. I would also have a firm but fair approach to behaviour. |

| Personal Description: I have written for numerous publications, with stories and poems published regularly. I have co-edited several student newspapers. I also perform live as a musician and actor. I am confident with public speaking, since I have been performing in diverse venues for nearly 10 years. I am a keen footballer, and believe in the importance of keeping fit and eating healthily. I also love travel, gardening, fixing computers and watching and critiquing films and theatre. |
Teaching Experience: From Feb 2009 - May 2009 I was SEN Assistant at Kentish Town CE School, London Main duties include ensuring that students with physical and/or cognitive complications are given the extra support they require within the general classroom environment, and that this does not disrupt the other students. Other duties include: - To provide academic and pastoral support to all other learners when required. - To provide behavioural support in class and to teaching staff at all times. - To monitor attendance of learners and set appropriate targets. - To invigilate examinations and mark work. From Aug 2009 to Dec 2009 I was a Learning Support Assistant, DeBeauvoir School, Hackney, London. Main duties included ensuring that students with learning difficulties are both kept up to speed with the general classroom environment, and that this does not disrupt the other students. Other duties include: - To provide full time academic and pastoral support to individual learners with learning difficulties, and/or behavioural and social problems. - To provide academic and pastoral support to all other learners when required. - To encourage learners to pursue further academic or vocational education. - To provide behavioural support in class and to teaching staff at all times. I have been working as a Tutor for 6 months. As of May 2009 I have 40+ Hours experience. From Jan 2009 to Aug 2009 I was a Cover Supervisor, Neat Education & Select Education, Sheffield Responsibilities are that of a Supply Teacher, being responsible for the learning and conduct of a whole class of students. Maintaining discipline and focus as well as being at all times a strong leader and role model were essential at all times. I worked in six different schools in South Yorkshire and Derbyshire. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that Tutoring is first about personal connection. Any learning can only be acheived given a certain level of trust, which must be established in order to create a solid platform from which further learning can then flourish. More clinical apporaches to tutoring often leave the tutee cold and seperate from the learning process, a vital part of which I believe is engagement and interest in the subject. |
