Personal Description:
I'm a recent University of Glasgow Biochemistry and MSc International Project Management graduate. I'm a French national and have been living in the UK for 14 years. I'm a lovely person, very dynamic and love the one to one of tutoring. It makes me really happy to help someone achieve something they have worked so hard for.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring privately now for 7 years and have seen my students come to grow in confidence, in understanding and in knowledge of their chosen topics. I saw a girl who I tutored for 7 months go from getting an 'Unclassified grade' in her Biology AS Level to a B in her A2. I have never seen a student of mine's grades stay the same post-tutoring and I am very proud of that.

Tutoring Approach:

I approach tutoring different ways depending on who the student is. I ask them questions about themselves, hobbies, favourite subjects etc; and then using that to better understand how they learn, I talk to them about their private learning and revision and the method of approach to that and to exams. And then I teach them using the method appropriate to their style of learning.

Personal Description:
I studied French and European studies in Birmingham before moving to Southampton. I currently work part time and study part time. I am interested in movies - especially Spanish and French, reading, photography as well as current affairs.

Teaching Experience:

During my university degree I spent a year living in Dunkirk, France where I taught adults both business and general English. At the same time I also tutored some children from a nearby school. I have worked with many Phd students through their English in their dissertations and currently tutor GCSE students.

Tutoring Approach:

Tutoring is really something that needs to be enjoyable. It's not like other jobs and why should it be? At the same time it is something I take seriously. I am more than willing to accomodate needs whether they be for an education, for an exam or for pleasure.

Personal Description:
I have a PhD in mathematical physics and started tutoring while at university.
I have been a full-time professional tutor for over seven years and I teach maths and all science subjects from year 8 up to GCSE and for Common Entrance and Maths, Further maths, Physics and Chemistry to A-level.
I am an exam marker for the OCR exam board and I mark controlled assessments at a school in Ipswich.

Teaching Experience:

I initially started tutoring at university while I was doing my PhD and found that I had the ability to help pupils understand the underlying concepts of maths and physics. Instead of just giving my tutees the answers to questions, I always tried to provide interesting examples of the principles behind the topics being studied in order to give a deeper understanding of the subject.
I worked in IT for many years and started tutoring again after helping my daughters with their GCSEs and A-levels.
I have been a full-time tutor for over seven years. I have taught pupils from a wide variety of schools - including state, independent and boarding schools.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to ensure that my students have a good understanding of the underlying principles of the subjects. This ensures they can deal with a great variety of exam questions and enables them to get the best result possible.
I am patient and helpful and believe I have a good understanding of young people and how they learn and study.

Personal Description:
I'm a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

I started as a trainee accountant in 1999, working for a variety of businesses and gradually gaining experience and expertise, becoming a member of the ACCA in 2008. In the last few years I have worked as an for the BBC, Lloyds TSB, Bread Youth Project, the Furniture Re-Use Network, Windmill Hill City Farm and Aster Group. Since 2010 I have also been doing freelance work for clients in commerce and the not-for-profit sector.

I have recently started teaching bookkeeping to clients whose duties include recording finance transactions but who do not have formal training in that kind of work.

Teaching Experience:

on and off since October 2010

Tutoring Approach:

Double-entry bookkeeping is a beautiful and robust way of recording financial transactions, but all-too-often it is shrouded in mystery and bristling with incomprehensible jargon. So instead of using double-entry bookkeeping, many people use columns of numbers, either on spreadsheets or in big red books, and risk making mistakes, leaving things out, and losing track of what has been paid for and what is still outstanding.

I can teach you double-entry bookkeeping if you are methodical and willing to learn -- you do not have to be a whizz at finance and you do not have to be fantastically numerate. We will proceed at your pace. Initial sessions will cover the very basics, and we will not need a computer for this, but as you progress you will reach a point at which it would be beneficial to apply your learning directly to the computerised bookkeeping system you are using or going to use in your business; if you do not have real transactions to record ("post"), we can invent some and post them using a practice set of accounts.

Learning happens best in a comfortable and un-hurried environment in which the focus is on acquiring skills and knowledge, and not on getting the accounts sorted out.

If you are interested in learning how to record finance transactions properly, please send me a message telling me a little about yourself, and what you need, and what you know about bookkeeping already (and it's perfectly OK if you don't know anything).

Personal Description:
I am a senior epidemiologist and Research Lead within a healthcare organisation and I have studied biology, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, parasitology and epidemiology at both under-graduate and post-graduate level. I also have a Master's in Public Health. I am interested primarily in human disease and work on vaccine-preventable diseases, infection and associated Human Papillomavirus-driven cancers. I have taught and lectured to 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th year undergraduates and to Master's students. I am fairly strict with regards to attention to detail and I believe that it is important to write accurately and in a concise but salient fashion. I am able to read, write and speak fluent French. I love my 2-year old daughter, mountaineering, ultra-marathons and Kettlebells.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a STEM ambassador for West of Scotland for the last 5 years, teaching biology and basic molecular biology, microbiology and immunology to primary and secondary school children.

Honorary lecturing duties at Glasgow University on molecular biology/microbiology/immunology in context of public health.

Module Leader for Outbreak Management and Epidemiology modules for M.Sc. in Infection Control, University of Highlands & Islands

External examiner for MSc in Infection Control, University of Essex (Kaplan).

Tutoring Approach:

Relaxed - it is crucial to see how the student thinks and take it from there. Everybody is different and in order to understand where the difficulties may lie, one must take the time to appraise how the student is thinking and which areas are causing the most problems. Using a number of examples, it can often be revealing to the student when one thinks of a scenario in a different way. However, it is imperative that the student appreciates that the attainment of knowledge and the ability to reason and apply that knowledge comes from drive, enthusiasm and structured revision. After tutoring, I normally arrange for students to meet with my contacts in the field of biology and public health so that they may gain some extra practical experience and/or some work experience before their next career step. I have also tutored students who are at various points on the autism spectrum.

Personal Description:
I am an experienced and qualified EFL teacher, living in Sheffield.

I was born and raised in Sheffield, and studied Psychology at Newcastle University. I spent last year teaching English to school children in Vietnam. Before my time in Vietnam, I taught academic English to overseas Masters and Degree students at Newcastle University.

Teaching Experience:

2010-2011 Hanoi, Vietnam: Teaching English to school children (8-16 years old)

2010 Newcastle University, UK: Teaching academic English to overseas Degree and Masters students

2009 Newcastle, UK: Teaching school children (4-15 years old)

Tutoring Approach:

Our first meeting is free. Here we can get to know each other, and you can tell me what you want from the lessons. (Do you want help with your university work / everyday English / pronunciation / reading / listening /.? Do you want any homework? How often do you want to meet? ). After the first meeting, you can decide if you would like to start lessons with me.

I will then prepare some lessons, tailored to your requirements. After the first few lessons, I will identify your strong and weak areas, and you can tell me what you like or don't like about the lessons.

My lessons are relaxed and friendly - it's your time and money, so you should enjoy it!

Personal Description:
I am a native speaker of Arabic and a PhD student at the Language and Linguistic Science Department of the University of York. I hold a BA in English literature and linguistics as well as an MA in translation studies. My study makes me familiar with written and spoken Arabic in its different forms (dialects).

Teaching Experience:

I taught English as a foreign language and Arabic for 10 years at higher education institutions. I also taught Arabic for adults as well as young people at home as a self-employed teacher. I can also teach Arabic online. I hold a DBS and currently I am Assistant Fellow of Higher Education Academy (AFHEA).

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching depends on immersing the learner in enjoyable daily-life situations with a native speaker so that he/she can easily imitate and, after not too much effort, read, write and speak Arabic like a native speaker. Culture cannot be separated from language. So, I also immerse the leaner in the main cultural aspects of Arabic-speaking countries in general and offer a brief background to language as reflected in culture. Also, I try to compare Arabic (as a language) and the culture represented by it with other languages, including English, French and German (languages that I am familiar with).

Personal Description:
I am a 28 year old mum and I have a Master's Degree in English Studies/ English Linguistics, History and Economic Sciences. I graduated in 2010 in Germany. Born in Poland and growing up in Germany I am bilingual in Polish and German and also fluent in English since I have lived in Northern Ireland since 2007. I am very interested in languages and linguistics and would like to use this knowledge to help others, especially children.

Teaching Experience:

I used to give private English lessons to a student aged 11-12 in Germany when I was a student myself. Within weeks his grades started to improve and thus after a few months he did not need any more tutoring.
Apart from this one I do not have any teaching experience, however, I was an assistant manager in a restaurant in my previous job through which I gained a lot of confidence being in a leading/ teaching position.

Tutoring Approach:

Because of my own interest in languages and linguistics I would like to work as a language teacher and fascinate and inspire others to learn different languages or simply help them to improve their language skills. My personal background as well as my degree provide an excellent basis for this.

Personal Description:
I specialise in giving children the confidence they need to succeed. The fast pace of the National Curriculum leaves no time for the child who needs longer to assimilate information, especially if they learn better with more concrete hands-on practical experience. This is not the fault of the child, but of the system.
I also help children with dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADD, ADHD, deafness (BSL), depression, Downs Syndrome and other disabilities.

Teaching Experience:

I have 30 years experience teaching all ages of people from age 2 to adults, but mainly the primary years. I have taught in England, USA and Kuwait. In schools and alternative settings such as small family groups and individual tutoring sessions.
I am a qualified teacher of hearing impaired children with a knowledge of BSL.
I have taught English to adult learners in Kuwait and the USA. I have also taught children whose fist language is not English.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach using my student`s preferred learning style, which could be visual, auditory, or kinaesthetic (or more likely a combination of them). With parents permission I also use tools such as Brain Gym©, EFT tapping, therapeutic essential oils to help my students overcome their learning difficulties. These tools really get results in terms of confidence, concentration and overcoming blocks to learning.

I also watch carefully for full engagement and when that is waning will switch activities to continue the learning process in a different way. Learning does not take place without enjoyment.

I am patient, kind and cheerful and aim for each student to enjoy their sessions with me while gaining confidence and ability.

I also teach English as another language from aged 3 to adult.

Personal Description:
Hello. I'm Daniel.
I've been passionate about languages ever since I was a little boy and am still pursuing the quest for knowledge and polyglotism!
My fsvourite and most fluent language is Russian. A language which I feel the most closest to as I have family who are from there. With this passion I would like to pass it to others...to you maybe?

Teaching Experience:

I've had plenty lf teaching experience in and out of the classroom. Mainly I have been involved in one-to-one private tuition as well as mentoring within College.

Tutoring Approach:

I've always had a straight forward approach to teaching languages. It's always important to take your time when studying a language as rushing can make you feel like you know nothing if/when you hit a brick wall. Therefore I like to develop the idea of challenge and reward, to develop the basics of a language, alphabet, pronunciation and grammar but on the other hand develop general knowledge of common words and phrases in order to allow for a level of confidence to grow. No matter how big or small.
