Personal Description:
I have been teaching for over ten years now and have many years experience in industry as well. I currently Director of Learning for Business & Economics, and for eight years I taught at Roundwood Park School in Harpenden as well as teaching in at Caddington Village gaining me an experience of how students learn from 3-13 years old. I have tutored all levels and every exam board and the students I have taught have all gone on to university with some of them going on to Oxbridge Universities to study economics. I have references if you wish.

Teaching Experience:

I ran the A-Level business course and most of the GCSE course I also taught the majority of economics. In recent years our Economics results were in the top 2% of the UK for AQA. I trained at STAGS and Dame Alice Owens but predominately in Roundwood Park.

Tutoring Approach:

I am happy to have it fairly structured or pupil lead depending on what you prefer. I will provide the student with hundreds of additional files to continue and aid their learning. At A-Level I often find that the focus is on the writing style, therefore, I tend to focus on that whereas at GCSE I tend to go through the theory as well as key exam tips.

Personal Description:
I am an independent tutor with a strong scientific background and have lived in England since Aug 1965. Most of my school and college education took place in Dudley (West Midlands) and I studied Biochemistry, at Leeds University (1975-8). I am married and have lived in Cheshire since Dec 1978. We have a son and a daughter; both graduated from Universities in Manchester. Following my voluntary redundancy from AstraZeneca, (Jun 2008), I am now a self-employed Tutor / Consultant. In addition, I am able to speak additional languages (Punjabi; studied up to GCE A-level and Hindi) and prepared to travel up to 5 miles. I have been tutoring Yr 7 - 13 students, in Maths and all Science subjects, since Oct 2008. In addition, I have prepared students from Yr 6, for the 11+ exams; frequently used by private schools, as entrance exams. Testimonials / References (from Students and Parents) are available, on request.

Teaching Experience:

During my long service in the Pharma industry (~30 years), I have run many short courses and workshops. During 2005/6, I mentored a pupil (Year 10/11) at St. Peter's High School, Longsight, organised by the University of Manchester. In the past, I have also been responsible for organising and running the weekly classes at the Sikh Temple (Gurdwara), for teaching youngsters the Sikh way of life & Punjabi culture, in helping to improve their knowledge and integration into the Western Society over a period of ten years.

Tutoring Approach:

I can provide tuition to individual students (or small groups) in the form of friendly, relaxed lessons. Teaching sessions are always customised to meet the specific requirement of the students. Generally, I enjoy teaching and considered to have a caring approach. I use a combination of computer and 'white board' based approach, for creating informal interactive / discussion type sessions, with some form of regular tests and re-cap sessions. Closer to the exams, the lessons are much more focused on using past papers covering a wide range of questions, to enable the students increase their confidence in preparation for the examinations.

Personal Description:
Hi, everyone,The academic year is now a term old and things are ticking along nicely for almost all my students of 2016-17. Sadly two have had to drop out of school/college studies because of personal issues which is sad, when the time is right, these two very bright individuals will come back to studying, I'm sure.

I am more busy than ever this year but do have perhaps one or two spaces for students keen to just improve or to transform themselves and their fortunes. However bad things seem, I can show you how make the best of your talents.

Craig

TWO EXAM PAPER NOTICES

A couple of examination paper notices.

1. I am now OCR trained for the new AS level source/essay paper. Obviously this has given me a clear insight into how it's marked and how students need to approach it to be successful.
2. Secondly, the ED Excel Y13 A2 sources & essay paper (three secondary sources): I worked with four students on this last year and achieved spectacular results (these pupils can be contacted; some won't be able to put referees up here because I found all 4 of them via word of mouth and the UK's other major tutoring site). I'm very happy to report that I worked hard and thought hard on refining my advice on the paper and it has clearly paid off handsomely. Do contact me for details; I can pass these on to you prior to your making a decision on whether to engage me (or not as the case may be). Naturally anyone re-taking the A2 paper in 2017 can benefit from this. The new EdExcel History exam has a similar paper so this year's cohort of Y13 students should be able to benefit too.

Note. Because I'm away for the next 3 weeks carrying out research in London and Reading for my PhD I will not be able to begin lessons this year until the last week of September.

Plus:

Important policy change! If your young one or you, the student, is/are one who is not prepared to be coached and trained as our Olympic athletes are - and by this I mean that the performer puts themselves in the hands of the coach and doesn't try to tell them how to do the job - then please do not get in touch: simply pass on to another tutor somewhere else on this site.

And now, The Pitch!

So, my name is Craig, a very dedicated one-to-one tutor of History, Politics and English. I offer an exceptionally high level of expertise as a history, politics (and English) teacher, teacher of essay writing, exam writing and exam taking. This is based on well over two decades of experience in schools and in homes. Though I have been teaching a long time, I am continually striving to improve the quality of my work, constantly analyzing the effect of my advice on performance and trying to perfect the art and craft of the job.

When not tutoring, most of my time is spent working (hard!) as a student too! I am just about to begin the third year of my PhD, supervised by Professor Tony Collins of De Montfort University, Leicester, undertaking research in 20th century British history. (Rugby fans might like to note at this point that Tony is the number one rugby historian - of all codes - in the world. All his books are very well worth reading.)

I am exceptionally well qualified. I have an MA (2011) in History and am now two years into my doctoral studies. I have written fiction and non-fiction. I have had experience in being an A level marker with an exam board. I have had long experience in teaching and preparing whole History & Govnt. & Politics year groups for A level, producing outstanding results.

I take on all types of students. Some need a lot of training, some need to be dragged away from a collision-course with failure, some need finessing, some need waking up, some need inspiring, some need a boost in confidence; some need more intellectual stimulation; all can and do improve their writing.

My chief strengths are: 1. I know how to teach students to write. 2. I know how to prepare them for exams. 3. My methods are clear, simple and work beautifully. 4. I care very much about the progression of my students. 5. I treat my work with them with the utmost seriousness. 6. But I'm a human being with a sense of humour! 7. I am very, very experienced. 8. As a parent of three children who have gone through the school and university experience, I understand what both the student and the parent is going through.

I am very happy to work with students online. I have found it to work extremely well.

More on my current research project...
I am currently working on doctoral research into the BBC, sport and social class, 1922-64, with Tony Collins at De Montfort University, Leicester. He is the director of DMU's International Centre for Sports History & Culture, a department of world renown, and the leading British powerhouse of sports history. I am very proud to be working with Tony and within the department. Undergrad students should note that I am working under one of the world's best historians, a 3-time winner of the prestigious Aberdare Prize for Sports Books.

Becoming a student again, beginning with the masters degree course at De Montfort University in 2010 has really helped my teaching. As well as keeping on top of developments in academic history. I am much better read! I know more! It has also taken me right back in touch with what it feels like to be a student and all that follows from that. It has also enabled me to extend my tutoring potential to undergraduates and masters students.

I'm happily married with 3 children fully grown (it's only their father who's lagging behind).

Teaching Experience:

I taught for 24 years in secondary schools in Bromley, Kent and Derbyshire where I now live. History was my specialism but I was head of Politics for a number of years in the last part of my school career. I also taught Geography, Economics, English and R.E.

Since beginning to tutor students, I have taught history, Government & Politics and English (including basic literacy skills to a young person with dyslexia). Courses taught have mostly been those at GCSE and A level.

I have taught a wide range of topics within French, German, Russian and British history. The list includes the usual suspects: causes of World Wars 1 and 2, Hitler and the Third Reich, the French Revolution (and its causes) and Napoleon; also Tsarist Russia, the Russian revolution and Stalin as well as the European Reformation, France in the 16th century, Louis XIV and aspects of Irish and Chinese history and 19th century France, plus 20th century USA. politics (Boom and Bust, New Deal and Post-War Boom, and also the Witchcraft Persecution in Europe (1550-1680).

In terms of British history I am very much up to speed with all aspects of its 20th century political history (high politics, parties, electoral history, social history & economic history, right through to the 21st century, in fact); I have also taught most aspects of 19th history, social, economic and political. For the last decade and a half of my school-teaching career I taught the A level course in 16th and 17th century - The Tudors, James I, Charles I, Causes of the English Civil War, Charles II, James II & the Glorious Revolution, the reigns of William & Mary & Queen Anne.

I have recently added 19th century British politics (Reform Bill through Peel, Palmerston, Disraeli and Gladstone to Salisbury) and Witchcraft in Early Modern Europe to my "roster" of topics.

Since becoming a PhD student my expertise level in terms of content knowledge has leaped forward in 20th century British history. However...

...it isn't the historical content of the course that matters so much: technique is the key; know-how; how to write; how to take an exam; how to prepare for the whole exam period; how to approach the whole thing mentally, psychologically; how to be the best you can be; how to be successful - end of story!

I have worked with students on exam preparation and revision, coursework planning and execution and essay writing techniques. It is here that the battle to improve and to reach a fulfillment of potential, often with the reward of high grades, is usually won.

Tutoring Approach:

I don't tinker around the margins of issues. I give students something all those who come for help require: a method to use to dispose of the problems posed by the issue of writing that dreaded thing: the essay! Not a tinkering round the edges of the thing, a tip here, a bit of advice there, but a comprehensive yet simple and absolutely clear set of actions and principles through which the student can fulfill their potential: show the examiner what they know and understand of the topic.

Following on from the above, my approach to tutoring begins and ends with the drive to be successful. If I did not unfailingly improve students, help them to achieve the grades they want and need I would not be writing this.

In between comes what we might describe as philosophy and methods. It's hard to write about methods without immediately mentioning what I suppose might be my strongest "offer" (I don't much like that word but there, I've used it). As a schoolteacher I developed a unique but simple method of essay planning and writing that achieved stunning results. So successful has it been over 20 years that I am astonished that no one else seems to have found it. But in my experience up to February 2013 no teacher has. Essay writing is still something that many, many students find difficult and confusing. It really does not need to be this way.

Obviously content issues are hugely important and here I rely on my communication skills which have yet to let me down! These, naturally, go hand in hand with a knowledge of British and European history across a variety of years which has grown over recent years particularly through my MA studies, my PhD research and through working with students on a range of historical periods, topics and people. I find myself to be adaptable to different types of students. I am able to adapt my language and my technique to fit the situation. I am also somewhat stubborn in that I never give up on solving a problem. If we have to go over time, so be it!

Finally, some more of my personal philosophies of teaching. I believe that students generally do not achieve their potential. With each student I aim to take them to standards (and grades) that they did not think were possible. Without exception I push, push and push until we run out of time as we inevitably do. I also do not believe in lost causes. Much can be achieved in a very short space of time. I have seen this happen over and over again.

There is much more to be said but that, I hope, will do for now.

Craig

Personal Description:
I am 29 years old and have been teaching A level and GCSE English and history at sixth form college for seven years, in which time my results have far surpassed national pass rates. Moreover, due to these outstanding pass rates and innovative teaching methods, my English department has been awarded a grade 1 'Outstanding' for the past 4 years. I have a passion for English and history, and take great pride in providing an excellent education to all of my students, seeing it as crucial to success in their later careers.

Teaching Experience:

I have a broad range of experience turning around failing classes, as well as challenging high achieving students. In my teaching career thus far I have taught a wide age range from 9-18 years, and specialise in teaching troubled students and those lacking confidence, as well as pushing very bright pupils. Since I began teaching at my institution, English pass-rates have received a 25% upwards leap in two years, so that the vast majority of my classes are now passing with high academic grades and attaining entry to prestigious preparatory schools and/or universities. With these excellent results I have now been made an advanced teaching practitioner, tasked with passing on my skills to other teachers and helping drive up standards

Tutoring Approach:

Besides enjoying superb results, my pupils benefit from a relaxed yet challenging atmosphere, with high commitment being expected of them and this has shown to bring both personal and academic growth, which is always pleasing to see. Moreover, in strengthening self-esteem and exciting the minds of my students, to provide them with the skills they need to excel in later life, I seek to provide them with only the finest education possible.

Personal Description:
I am an avid musician and educationalist, with a passion for sharing my interests in music and learning with children and young adults. As a parent and trained Teacher, I can see from different perspectives the different aspects of learning in life, and am keen to foster a love of learning whenever I am involved with a child or young person.

Teaching Experience:

I have 7 years experience working in a Special Needs school working across the 11-19 age range primarily, with much crossover into Primary and Early Years. When my children were at nursery I worked closely with the team to develop their behaviour management and early communication skills, giving me a different range of experiences to call upon. I have also taught private music lessons with great client satisfaction for over 10 years.

Tutoring Approach:

I am experienced in adapting my approach to delivery depending on context, having worked in classrooms, with learner orchestras, and in 1:1 settings. Fun and enjoyment should be central to a successful learning experience, and I try to ensure a relaxed approach in sessions facilitates this.

Teaching Experience:

In recent years I have tutored both A Level and GCSE students in the Sciences and Economics. This, alongside having recently completed these examinations myself, has given me a thorough working knowledge of the curriculum and how to score maximum marks on exam papers.

Work experience in primary schools and as an ambassador for King's College London have also provided me with a great wealth of experience with those of younger years.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the key to success in school is building confidence in your given subject. I can work with you to build on existing skills or develop the basics needed to achieve. No matter what level you are currently at, you can always improve and aim higher. With understanding, patience and hard work you will succeed.

I allow the student to lead the sessions in the direction they feel they need to focus on, with a combination of revision materials, text book focus and multiple past papers.

Personal Description:
I specialise in giving children the confidence they need to succeed. The fast pace of the National Curriculum leaves no time for the child who needs longer to assimilate information, especially if they learn better with more concrete hands-on practical experience. This is not the fault of the child, but of the system.
I also help children with dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADD, ADHD, deafness (BSL), depression, Downs Syndrome and other disabilities.

Teaching Experience:

I have 30 years experience teaching all ages of people from age 2 to adults, but mainly the primary years. I have taught in England, USA and Kuwait. In schools and alternative settings such as small family groups and individual tutoring sessions.
I am a qualified teacher of hearing impaired children with a knowledge of BSL.
I have taught English to adult learners in Kuwait and the USA. I have also taught children whose fist language is not English.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach using my student`s preferred learning style, which could be visual, auditory, or kinaesthetic (or more likely a combination of them). With parents permission I also use tools such as Brain Gym©, EFT tapping, therapeutic essential oils to help my students overcome their learning difficulties. These tools really get results in terms of confidence, concentration and overcoming blocks to learning.

I also watch carefully for full engagement and when that is waning will switch activities to continue the learning process in a different way. Learning does not take place without enjoyment.

I am patient, kind and cheerful and aim for each student to enjoy their sessions with me while gaining confidence and ability.

I also teach English as another language from aged 3 to adult.

Personal Description:
I am a third year student studying International Business with German at the University of Birmingham. I am a good communicator who can speak four languages fluently: English, German, Ukrainian and Russian. Although originally I come from Ukraine, Russian is my native language as I was born and lived in Odessa (Russian speaking part of Ukraine) for most of my life. I have also completed full secondary education in Russian back in Ukraine and at the age of 17, I moved from Ukraine to further my studies in England. I enjoy meeting new people, understanding their background and where they're from as well as exploring new places and cultures.

I am also a motivated individual, who loves helping people to learn something new and seeing them progress.

Teaching Experience:

In Ukraine I used teach children aged from 10-15 English language, helping them with their school homework and constantly taking a step further with their language knowledge. Also back in boarding school in England I used to help English pupils, who were studying Russian for their A-levels to prepare for their wiring and oral exams.

Tutoring Approach:

As a fluent speaker of four languages, I really do understand all the challenges learners of the new language might face. I believe that vocabulary and grammar are basis for any language studies. It provides fundamentals, which with practice will improve the language skills itself. However, knowing grammar rules isn't helpful until you can actually use it in real world. Thus, I believe that combining both grammar and speaking exercises in classes can bring the best results, trying to use grammar rules, while speaking.

I would divide sessions in two parts trying to cover both grammar and speaking on different topics. This should improve both the use of grammar and vocabulary skills. I am also happy to support any current academic material and answer any questions a learner might have. By following such teaching strategy, step by step, a learner will improve the knowledge of the language.

Personal Description:
I am final year Computer Science student at the University of Manchester. This is my 3rd year here in Manchester. I have attained many qualifications during my high school years, related to maths. I have participated in many international, regional and national olympiads, and got several degrees (medals). So 1 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze medals are indicator of my success during my school years. I enjoy helping children with their difficulties during studying. I am doing math tutoring within Manchester area and possibly online. Since my father is a math teacher, I have been taught by him starting from my childhood, so I inherited the teaching skills and techniques from him. I am really good at this. I'd be happy if I can help you or your child with any problems related to studies.

Teaching Experience:

I have done for one year of maths teaching in advanced level to the students who are preparing for competitions in my home-country(Azerbaijan). Besides, I did last year 9 sessions with year_9 boy in Manchester and now tutoring a student to enter the Manchester Grammar school, and have one primary student too. In total I am doing tutoring continuously for 4 years in mathematics.

Tutoring Approach:

One-to-one tutoring is the best technique I have observed so far. Generally, I am preparing initial sessions to be more like talking to them, I try to know my student from educational point of view (e.g. what is their background knowledge in certain subject). During my first session with my students I note down what they think their problems are and then decide what are the real difficulties of them. Starting from next sessions I prepare topics to be taught from zero or should be revised, and bring more examples related to them.
