Personal Description:
My name is ine and I'm originally from Ireland. I've lived in Brighton with a few months only. I teach in Surrey.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching with almost 2 years and have experience of teaching science at primary, secondary and university levels. Also, I have given intensive GCSE science and A level physics revision courses to secondary school students. I have also given tuition in Physics, Educational Psychology, Philosophy and Classroom Management at University Level.

Tutoring Approach:

Being a young teacher, I like to think I can identify more easily with problems students face with science and studying in general. My own days of exam stress weren't too long ago. I pride myself of being an approachable and down to earth person. Each student is an individual with different needs. I try my best to find out each student's strengths so that each student can get the best out of their revision time with me.

Personal Description:
I have just completed a BSc in Mathematics and I am hoping to apply for a MSc in Mathematics in the near future. Obviously, this is a costly undertaking and as such, maths tuition appears to be an ideal means of generating some of the funds required.

Teaching Experience:

Technically, I have very little in the way of teaching skills. However, having been a high scoring student on my degree course I became used to explaining the concepts behind the work to other students on the course. I often received phone calls from other students asking for help when a lecturer was not available.

I also took part in a PAL (Peer Assisted Learning) scheme in my third year. This meant that, along with one other third year, I spent twelve weeks facilitating a group of first year students as they prepared a piece of group work. This basically meant being able to answer the students questions and to aid them in the production of a presentation, report and a poster.

Tutoring Approach:

I would use stated examples to illustrate the theory behind a particular method, the stated examples presumably coming from a textbook or a teacher. I would hope that by explaining an example of a problem in a step by step fashion, a tutee would be able to apply this approach to similar problems and thus understand the underlying method.

Personal Description:
I am a 27 year-old native French speaker and fully bilingual.
I spent four years in London working as a Nanny and home tutor.
I am now working part-time as a freelance translator and proofreader in Edinburgh, dealing everyday with two different languages and their own particularities.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored a 10 year-old boy for two years and a half on a weekly basis, mainly working on French homework and conversation, but on other subjects as well, and I am currently tutoring an adult twice a week.

Tutoring Approach:

I like an enthusiastic, lively and passionate approach to tutoring.
I try to involve the pupil in his/her work as much as I can.
I think academic success is for a big part depending on self-confidence and the general psychological state of the pupil. My degree in Psychology helps me understand this side of the tutoring experience.

I did my undergraduate degree in Contemporary Literature at the University of Bari (Italy); then I took an MA in Communication, Culture and Society at Goldsmiths College-University of London, and obtained my PhD in Sociology (ESRC funded) at the London School of Economics. Before joining the Department of Sociology at Essex, I was a Lecturer in Sociology at Birmingham University and in the School of Applied Social Sciences at Durham University.

Teaching Experience:

I am an experienced teacher at undergraduate and graduate levels. In my career as a Lecturer in Sociology I designed and convened modules such as: 'Visual Culture', 'Gender and Sexuality', 'Politics of Representation', 'Cultural Research Methods', 'Media, Culture and Society' and 'International Communications'. Moreover, I have substantial experience of teaching social theory, having taught theory modules such as: 'Sociological Theory' (LSE), 'Modern Power/Modern Knowledge', 'Critical Readings', 'The Enlightenment and its Legacy: Introduction to Modernity and Postmodernity' (Goldsmiths), 'Issues in Contemporary Sociology' (LSBU), 'Self, Identity and Society' (Durham), 'The Body' (Essex). Additionally, I have extensive experience in teaching research methods. My main interest is in qualitative methodologies and in particular visual methodologies (visual/discourse analysis, visual ethnography, photo-elicitation, visual content analysis, etc.). My teaching experience has also included the setting and marking of coursework and exams, and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations.

Tutoring Approach:

I have undergone extensive training in pedagogy during his Teaching Accreditation Programme at the London School of Economics. I have taught to students coming from the most diverse backgrounds (in terms of gender, sexuality, class, ethnicity, religion, and different abilities). In my teaching practice, I make all possible efforts to create the most inclusive learning environment in which individual abilities and experiences are respected, and understood as resources rather than obstacles to the collective learning. I always try to teach my modules in innovative and student centred ways and I strive to make my teaching as exciting as I can. I regularly employ information technology as a teaching and learning tool.

Personal Description:
I am a confident and enthusiastic person; with a pleasant attitude and patient towards people.

Teaching Experience:

I have been in tutoring line for more than five years.

Tutoring Approach:

Tutoring Approach: Before I charge any student I will conduct an assessment of your needs and type of lessons you want to have. Then a plan will be suggested and details of charges and times will be agreed. My approach to tutoring is that consistency is key. A student and tutor must stick to a program of development and a routine of lessons in order for their to be successful improvement. Motivation is another key aspect and the tutors role includes motivating her student. For students wanting to improve for school (key skills, GCSE, etc) I as a tutor have an up-to-date knowledge of the syllabuses and what is required from the student in order for them to not only comprehend the work in question but to also be capable of being successful in examinations. For students wanting to learn Science, contrary to group classes where individual needs are somehow ignored, your private lessons can be tailor-made to your specific needs and requirements. You decide what type you want.
