Personal Description:
I have a passion for the English language and its literature which is reflected in my work. I really enjoy tutoring, because I know the one-to-one learning situation gives students the attention and focus which they need to improve, and which they cannot get in school. I am a parent, a published poet and occasional actor. I only work in West Yorkshire, up to 12 miles' drive from my home, but I will offer discounts to students willing to travel to me..

Teaching Experience:

I have 30 years' experience of teaching English to kids of varying backgrounds and abilities (11 to 18 up to A level) so I have built up an extensive bank of resources over the years, which I use to carefully prepare for lessons. I am also an experienced examiner for AQA, which offers valuable insights into exactly how to achieve high GCSE grades . I have been tutoring successfully for five years now, and my knowledge and expertise would be very useful to students aiming at high marks in GCSE and A level exams. Recently, I have helped a pupil win a scholarship to high-achieving independent QEGS in Wakefield, and others to gain entrance to grammar schools

Tutoring Approach:

I am patient, friendly and easy to get on with. I have always tried to make my lessons interesting, relevant and inter-active. I tailor my teaching to the pupil and know that praise and encouragement are the keys to confidence and progress. A good sense of humour is vital, too.
I have helped to improve the grades of many pupils, some of whom have achieved the highest grade at GCSE, and have coached younger ones through entrance exams to sought-after schools. One student, whom I tutored for three years, progressed from a poor level 4 in year 8 to GCSE grade B, the minimum requirement for A levels in many good schools, while others have achieved the A* grades required for their chosen paths.
I have achieved high ratings from the parents of students I have tutored. A good tutor can make a difference with focused one-to-one attention, and I am a good, committed tutor.

Personal Description:
3 years ago, UK postgraduate study enhanced my skills in both English and Chinese. I've been a professional translator and Mandarin teacher for years, so I'm very confident to be a private tutor and make sure you will reach your goal : )

I'm based in London and working as a translator/project manager. In my spare time (weekends/public holidays), I'm very glad to help those foreign friends with their Mandarin.

Please contact me if any needs/questions.

Sophy

Teaching Experience:

In 2009, I taught English to preschool students in China. I learned a lot from it, how to communicate with my students, how to achieve their aims and how to deal with their difficulties.

In 2010, I taught two adult foreigners Mandarin Chinese at home via msn and emails. Although they were in the same age group, they had different needs, so I varied my teaching approach. One preferred to learn Chinese culture, so I taught him the history of Chinese festivals and general grammar; the other wanted to learn everyday expressions, so I taught him day-to-day language in terms of various circumstances, such as useful phrases in greetings, at the store, at the restaurant, at the airport and travelling etc.

Last year, I gave one-to-one Mandarin Chinese courses which are specially designed for the students particular needs.

We can have a discussion about your goal first, then we will arrange the time slot for your own course.

Please kindly note that my lessons are only available on weekends and the whole weekdays from 17th Dec. - 21st Dec. 2012

Let's speak Mandarin!!

Tutoring Approach:

First, I need to know my tutees' aims for learning Chinese (e.g. for travelling to China or for personal interests, etc.) so that I can design a way of studying for you that can make the process of learning more effective and interesting.

secondly, I will combine formal teaching content (pinyin, grammar, characters) with interesting informal teaching approaches (learning words and phrases from songs/movies or going to a Chinese restaurant to learn the names of dishes).

You will have fun learning Chinese!

Personal Description:
I work part-time as a Science Teaching assistant in a Secondary school, previously I worked as a teaching assistant and have many years experience in special educational needs. I have worked in the education sector in this capacity since 1997.
I hold a BSc in Science and Mathematics in Eduction
I only tutor on the Isle of Wight unless my travel to the mainland is paid for on top of my tutor fees. I hold a degree in Science and Mathematics in the Education sector.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked on a one-to-one basis since January 1997, in co-operation with the teaching staff, within the classroom, helping the children to whom I was assigned to understand what was required of them, to master the skills they needed to progress on to the next stage of their learning journey.
I am experienced in working alone with children who need extra help to reach their goals.
I am experienced in raising the standards of attaniment in classes I have been responsible for both at the higher levels and lower levels of competancy.
I am experienced at Key Stages 3&4 but am able to tutor for Key Stages 2 in Mathematics.
I am experienced in working with children with special educational needs.
I have been actively tutoring since the autumn of 2000

Tutoring Approach:

I adopt the Do, Talk and Record framework and encourage my students to talk to me about their knowledge, as I believe the large part of reinforcing learning is to explain to others the content of the lesson.
I like to make my lessons as practical and therefore as much fun as possible and use visual aids where ever I can.

Personal Description:
Summary of what makes me stand out:

1) Read Law at the University of Cambridge, King`s College, for a semester.

2) Strong academic record:

Zoology Bsc: First-Class Honours
A-Levels: 3 x A-stars (Biology, Maths and Chemistry)
GCSEs: 7 x A-stars, 2 x As, 1 x B.

3) Support Worker in a therapeutic residential care home for 11-18 year olds with emotional and behavioural difficulties for 1 year. I learned how to de-escalate and safeguard young people in crisis and manage challenging behaviours.

4) Team Leader at Action for Children. Organising and running activities for young people with learning disabilities, such as swimming and youth clubs.

5) I work hard to help people reach their full potential and believe in their own abilities.

About yourself:

Through my achievements I have become a lively, confident young man with a desire to push forward in life. I think having a good life balance is crucial to success, so I find time to exercise, work hard and socialise, with all three factors complimenting and improving the others. Study, work and travel have made me aware of my own capabilities, and that I will only get out of life what I put in.

I have travelled to Borneo, Peru, USA, India, Italy, Kenya, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Spain, Honduras, Egypt, Tunisia and Greece. Travelling has developed my ability to communicate confidently with new people, from a range of ages, cultures and backgrounds. I am a passionate explorer of places, ideas and experiences in different cultures.

Working for a precision engineering firm and going on a business trip to a semi-conductor exhibition in Taiwan has taught me to be punctual and professional. Working with young people, engineering, travelling, business trips and coaching football show I am not afraid of responsibility.

I have taken part in a range of extracurricular activities, from rock climbing and American Football to international development as President of the Student's for Esteli Society at University. I have learned to manage my time efficiently.

I find understanding an idea myself, and then helping others to understand that idea, very satisfying. Helping someone to reach their full potential is rewarding for myself and the tutee. My passion for biology, maths and teaching means I can ensure lessons are animated.

Teaching Experience:

I have a consistently strong academic record which can only be acquired through understanding how to excel in examinations and I have confidence in my tutoring ability. The young people I tutored included those with learning and mental health difficulties. All tutees achieved their grade targets. My third passed despite not sitting his GCSE exams in the past due to having a breakdown.

I have a year's experience working with young people with behavioural and emotional difficulties and learning disabilities. As a support worker in a therapeutic residential care home a personal strength was building a rapport with young people and undertaking therapeutic key work sessions, teaching them to manage their emotions and make positive decisions. As a team leader at Action for Children I am learning to communicate with young people with learning disabilities in new ways, especially when they are non-verbal, and pay more attention to body language and signing.

Tutoring Approach:

If you're interested in hiring me as a tutor, I am happy to meet with you first so you can determine whether I am the right person for the job. Together we can then determine what specific areas the prospective tutee needs assistance in. Once target areas have been established, I will use the syllabus, reference texts, past papers and a range of resources to apply my own knowledge and skills to improve the tutee's grades.

I understand that different people learn in different ways, and will use the technique that works best for the tutee. The teaching approach can be personalised for specific individuals, a major advantage of one to one tutoring. The atmosphere will be relaxed so the tutee feels comfortable and we can make the best use of our time. Although a relaxed atmospere, teaching will be structured and interactive. I hope to give the tutee confidence in themselves and their abilities.

I can provide further advise on revision and exam techniques, as well as ensuring the tutee has sufficient knowledge for exams. I can broaden the tutee's learning experience beyond that in schools with respect to biology if desired. I can tutor at my house, your house or a public space (perhaps a coffee shop or library) - wherever you're most comfortable. I look forward to hearing from you.

Personal Description:
My name is Chris. With a good academic background, and now with excellent feedback, my approach is to not only impart knowledge, but also attempt to generate a passion for a subject that will remain long after any examination success. Educated at King's Collage School, Wimbledon and a subsequent degree course in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at King's College, London, I joined the BBC as a television recording engineer in 1976. I became a successful editor with the BBC and continue to enjoy the same role now on a freelance basis.
I am a good communicator, and seem to have the knack of explaining sometimes difficult concepts with clear and concise explanations. I have kept in touch with my core subjects (maths, physics and science) throughout my life and retain a keen interest in all of them. I'm not just a book-based dry academic but someone who knows how to fire enthusiasm for learning that will last long after any examination paper. My work has never been Mon-Fri 9-5, so I am available during the working day both in term time and school holidays.

Teaching Experience:

I have now been tutoring Maths for over two years which has generated good feedback and positive results from parents and students alike.
I think that is all that counts.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to impart my enthusiasm for the subject to my students. This is so much easier on a one to one basis compared with the classroom. A tutor will often cause the 'penny to drop', not by simply repeating a classroom lesson, but by offering a different explanation of a problem. Working in close contact with the syllabus, I quickly identify areas of weakness in the understanding of a subject, and repair that damage as quickly as possible. This is essential, especially in maths, as new concepts can rely so heavily on previous knowledge, which, if absent, will make comprehension of new material even more difficult. This is presumably why you are looking for a tutor in the first place. Homework, mock exam questions are essential, not only as feedback for me to know how successful any lesson has been, but also for you as a parent to see if any improvement has been achieved. A return for your investment if you like. Get in touch.

Personal Description:
I have a PhD in Chemistry and have a passion for both chemistry (all sciences) and maths. I am a very understanding, empathetic person who can relate easily to the problems that some pupils have with these subjects.

I am married with three teenage children.

Teaching Experience:

I am a professional tutor (over 20 years experience) of Maths and Chemistry/ Science from Primary School(Key Stages 1 and 2) to Secondary School (Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level) and also the Eleven Plus examinations, offering a personal and focused approach to helping pupils achieve their exam potential.

I have consistently improved pupils' grades and have improved pupil's grades up to 2 levels (and in an exceptional case 3 levels).

I have also obtained good grades for students who were considering dropping a subject, or indeed were advised by their teachers to drop a subject.

I have worked with a wide variety and culture of students, helping them to develop excellent revision skills. As mentioned above, I have taught all age groups with varying skill levels.

My aim is to make pupils more enthusiastic about their subjects and use real life examples, so they can understand why they study certain topics.

Hard work together with fun gets the best out of pupils and I tailor the work to an individual. I have worked extensively with all syllabuses including AQA, OCR and Edexcel (GCSE and iGCSE)

Tutoring Approach:

As mentioned earlier I am very enthusiastic and passionate, and get a real buzz from pupils excelling in their education. I hope to get pupils enthused likewise, and encourage hard work with fun.

Every pupil is different and I am very adaptable, and very able to use different methods to get the message across to the individual.

Homework is strongly encouraged !!

Personal Description:
I have always had a very approachable manner as a teacher as I have always believed that this is the best way to relax a pupil and make their mind more pliable to different approaches. I fully understand that mathematics can be a challenge, and this I believe is where my very patient and empathetic demeanour can produce results quickly and restore a pupil's self-belief. I am thorough in my preparation, professional in my presentation of written materials, and prompt and comprehensive with marking. I will be reliable, wholly courteous, and totally focused on the pupil's development.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a qualified teacher since 2006. From 2005 to 2012 I taught at Swansea College (now, Gower College Swansea) on a range of programmes including BTEC courses, GCSE and A-level Mathematics. While at Swansea College I continued tutoring mathematics privately, building my knowledge of the demands of Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, and developing a range of strategies to effectively teach those specifications.

Tutoring Approach:

I strongly believe that mathematics is based on a number of core principles, and success in mathematics depends on a concrete understanding of these principles rather than rote learning of topics. My private tutoring sessions are always designed around the effective delivery of these principles. I am always flexible in my approach, and I understnd that a pupil's attention may be distracted by something that they remember they have covered in a formal lesson. However, my commitment to ensuring that the principles are understood will not change. My lessons last for 1 hour and 20 minutes, and incorporate a 5-minute introduction to the objectives for that session, 1 full hour of teaching and a 15-minute review at the end.

Personal Description:
The social sciences are my expertise. In particular, cinema and art history with critical theory. I have extensive research experience in continental philosophy (Kant, Hegel, Marx, Althusser, Deleuze, Adorno, Badiou, etc.) and am well-versed in a wide-range of media and art theory topics (e.g. modernity, medium specificity, globalisation, avant-gardes, etc.).

I have a decade of experience as a media producer for various web and radio enterprises, and have written professionally for a range of digital publications.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 5 years of experience tutoring across the subjects listed in my profile. And I have also advised successfully on essays, coursework, dissertations and exam preparation from A-level to postgraduate level.

Coursework, essays and dissertation topics I have recently supervised:

- The semiotics of Barthes and Jakobsen
- Base, superstructure and ideological state apparatuses between Marx and Althusser
- The 'wilderness cosmology' of Daoism in classical Chinese Poetry
- Social unrest and China's modernisation project in the cinema of Jia Zhangke
- A comparative political analysis of Halklarin Demokratik Partisi and Ciudadanos
- Jean Baudrillard's concept of Hyperreality and 'The Truman Show'
- Phenomenology and Bad Faith between Edmund Husserl and Jean-Paul Sartre
- Postmodern urbanism and the cinema of Neill Blomkamp
- The Fauvist revolution in modern painting
- The Printing Press and media theory since Elizabeth Eisenstein
- Consumerism, and the media spectacle in urban Chengdu
- The fashion film and the "bad bitch": post-feminist representation in contemporary Hollywood cinema

Do contact me to discuss your specific essay, presentation or dissertation needs.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer two types of tuition: online (text-based) and in-person (verbal).

Online tuition is the most efficient method for written assignment preparation; superior in my experience than in-person tuition since the student is naturally obliged to articulate concepts, issues and questions directly in the written form that they are required to submit their essays, dissertations, and coursework in. This avoids the extra labour of translating verbal communication to written communication and vice-versa, which slows progress. I conduct online tuition via Skype, which is free to download and use.

In-person tuition is, however, better suited and encouraged for verbal assignments, like presentations and language-speaking practice.

Regardless of type, I always apply a needs-based approach to tuition; allowing my students' needs to dictate pace and intensity. I can, therefore, work closely on particular syllabus material in relation to coursework and exams, or take a broader approach to adult and casual learning.

I offer a full range of help on written work, from "brainstorming", essay or dissertation plans, literature reviews, primary-source gathering, all the way to polishing up the final draft before submission. All written work that I proof-read and supervise will be returned with in-line annotations (using MS Word or LibreOffice's comments and tracked-changes) offering detailed criticisms and suggestions on how to improve anything from grammar, structure, analysis, tone, argument and so forth. I also work fast: written work received before noon can be expected back the same day.

Personal Description:
I am a keen Linguist who is currently studying a joint Languages Degree at the University of Chester. I have studied and lived in China, and speak Chinese to a semi-fluent level. I also speak Spanish to a high degree and have studied each language for 7+ years

Teaching Experience:

When living in China, I had two part time teaching jobs, teaching Chinese children to speak english. The parents of these Children wanted a Native English speaker with a good grasp of Chinese. I find that I learn best when teaching, and thus it is my primary method of learning something new.

Tutoring Approach:

I can amend my teaching style to however the child learns best. I am most comfortable producing learning aids such as powerpoint presentations, and then explaining them thoroughly, but if a different approach was required, I could find or create learning aids to best suite the child, be they Audio based or Visual.

Personal Description:
I grew up in North Wales until the age of 11, I then went to live in Tenerife, Spain and did all my studies up to University there and am proficient in both English and Spanish.

I have taught English as a second language in Tenerife, Spain from 2006 to 2014, to learners of all ages, from one to one lessons to small groups, as a self-employed tutor.

I have also done after-school English classes at a local Spanish school, worked in various nurseries teaching infants from 2 years of age and have been in charge of an English summer camp where children learn through crafts, sport and activities.

I started teaching because of the high demand from people needing native speaking English tutors in the Spanish city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and have taught myself grammar and different teaching methods, improving with experience.

Teaching Experience:

In April 2016 I obtained a 140-hour premier TEFL course certificate and I'm currently doing a Degree in English Studies at a Spanish University to become an English-Spanish linguist. In June 2016 I got the Distinction in the Intermediate Level Certificate in Welsh.

I have experience teaching conversation, grammar, vocabulary. Improving fluency for interviews and travelling abroad. Preparation of Cambridge and language school exams, and reinforcement of schoolwork.

In 2014 I moved back to North Wales to be near my family, I have been learning Welsh at Bangor University and I'm continuing my career by teaching Spanish locally in small groups and one to one lessons, and also teaching ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) online.

Tutoring Approach:

I give a variety of interactive lessons where you can put into practice all of the language skills necessary to become fluent and have an active Spanish & ESOL learning experience.
