Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified Modern Foreign Languages, EFL and ESOL teacher. I have lived and worked in Germany (for four years in Munich and Augsburg doing aupairing, shop and office work), in Spain (teaching English for four years in Barcelona, Feuerteventura and Sevilla), and England (doing administrative work and teaching, the latter for over 15 years).

I enjoy meeting people of other nationalities and exchanging ideas about different cultures and experiences. In my free time I enjoy taking part in conversation groups in Spanish, German and English, the latter with people of a variety of cultural backgrounds. I also enjoy watching European films and TV programmes both in the languages I know and in ones that I do not. In my quiet time I enjoy reading novels both in English and in Spanish and German. In the future I would like to learn Italian!

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as an EFL teacher since 1994 - teaching both abroad and in England to multi-lingual and monolingual classes. In Spain I taught children from 5 years old and businessmen in company, while in England I have taught children from 12 years old at residential summer schools and adults from 17 to 75 years of age in term time. I have also had some experience in teaching both German and Spanish at secondary schools.

I am currently teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) at an FE college in Nottingham. I teach general English with classes in grammar, vocabulary and the four language skills. I also teach Study Skills, Academic English (EAP) and prepare students for IELTS examinations.

I am also experienced in preparing ESOL students for exams from Entry 1 to Level 1 and CAE. In addition, I have taught EAP (Academic English) to pre-sessional students at university.I have taught Spanish, German and English classes to adults and children; the latter to both overseas and British students.

I have given private tuition to adults and children in Spanish, German and EFL. I have also assisted school children with their reading and writing.

Tutoring Approach:

I like small group teaching which allows students to interact with each other but am equally happy to teach on a one-to-one basis. I believe in student centred, active, task based learning.

I am happy to teach in my home or travel to the clients house (for which there would be an additional charge to cover travel costs).

Personal Description:
Hi, everyone,The academic year is now a term old and things are ticking along nicely for almost all my students of 2016-17. Sadly two have had to drop out of school/college studies because of personal issues which is sad, when the time is right, these two very bright individuals will come back to studying, I'm sure.

I am more busy than ever this year but do have perhaps one or two spaces for students keen to just improve or to transform themselves and their fortunes. However bad things seem, I can show you how make the best of your talents.

Craig

TWO EXAM PAPER NOTICES

A couple of examination paper notices.

1. I am now OCR trained for the new AS level source/essay paper. Obviously this has given me a clear insight into how it's marked and how students need to approach it to be successful.
2. Secondly, the ED Excel Y13 A2 sources & essay paper (three secondary sources): I worked with four students on this last year and achieved spectacular results (these pupils can be contacted; some won't be able to put referees up here because I found all 4 of them via word of mouth and the UK's other major tutoring site). I'm very happy to report that I worked hard and thought hard on refining my advice on the paper and it has clearly paid off handsomely. Do contact me for details; I can pass these on to you prior to your making a decision on whether to engage me (or not as the case may be). Naturally anyone re-taking the A2 paper in 2017 can benefit from this. The new EdExcel History exam has a similar paper so this year's cohort of Y13 students should be able to benefit too.

Note. Because I'm away for the next 3 weeks carrying out research in London and Reading for my PhD I will not be able to begin lessons this year until the last week of September.

Plus:

Important policy change! If your young one or you, the student, is/are one who is not prepared to be coached and trained as our Olympic athletes are - and by this I mean that the performer puts themselves in the hands of the coach and doesn't try to tell them how to do the job - then please do not get in touch: simply pass on to another tutor somewhere else on this site.

And now, The Pitch!

So, my name is Craig, a very dedicated one-to-one tutor of History, Politics and English. I offer an exceptionally high level of expertise as a history, politics (and English) teacher, teacher of essay writing, exam writing and exam taking. This is based on well over two decades of experience in schools and in homes. Though I have been teaching a long time, I am continually striving to improve the quality of my work, constantly analyzing the effect of my advice on performance and trying to perfect the art and craft of the job.

When not tutoring, most of my time is spent working (hard!) as a student too! I am just about to begin the third year of my PhD, supervised by Professor Tony Collins of De Montfort University, Leicester, undertaking research in 20th century British history. (Rugby fans might like to note at this point that Tony is the number one rugby historian - of all codes - in the world. All his books are very well worth reading.)

I am exceptionally well qualified. I have an MA (2011) in History and am now two years into my doctoral studies. I have written fiction and non-fiction. I have had experience in being an A level marker with an exam board. I have had long experience in teaching and preparing whole History & Govnt. & Politics year groups for A level, producing outstanding results.

I take on all types of students. Some need a lot of training, some need to be dragged away from a collision-course with failure, some need finessing, some need waking up, some need inspiring, some need a boost in confidence; some need more intellectual stimulation; all can and do improve their writing.

My chief strengths are: 1. I know how to teach students to write. 2. I know how to prepare them for exams. 3. My methods are clear, simple and work beautifully. 4. I care very much about the progression of my students. 5. I treat my work with them with the utmost seriousness. 6. But I'm a human being with a sense of humour! 7. I am very, very experienced. 8. As a parent of three children who have gone through the school and university experience, I understand what both the student and the parent is going through.

I am very happy to work with students online. I have found it to work extremely well.

More on my current research project...
I am currently working on doctoral research into the BBC, sport and social class, 1922-64, with Tony Collins at De Montfort University, Leicester. He is the director of DMU's International Centre for Sports History & Culture, a department of world renown, and the leading British powerhouse of sports history. I am very proud to be working with Tony and within the department. Undergrad students should note that I am working under one of the world's best historians, a 3-time winner of the prestigious Aberdare Prize for Sports Books.

Becoming a student again, beginning with the masters degree course at De Montfort University in 2010 has really helped my teaching. As well as keeping on top of developments in academic history. I am much better read! I know more! It has also taken me right back in touch with what it feels like to be a student and all that follows from that. It has also enabled me to extend my tutoring potential to undergraduates and masters students.

I'm happily married with 3 children fully grown (it's only their father who's lagging behind).

Teaching Experience:

I taught for 24 years in secondary schools in Bromley, Kent and Derbyshire where I now live. History was my specialism but I was head of Politics for a number of years in the last part of my school career. I also taught Geography, Economics, English and R.E.

Since beginning to tutor students, I have taught history, Government & Politics and English (including basic literacy skills to a young person with dyslexia). Courses taught have mostly been those at GCSE and A level.

I have taught a wide range of topics within French, German, Russian and British history. The list includes the usual suspects: causes of World Wars 1 and 2, Hitler and the Third Reich, the French Revolution (and its causes) and Napoleon; also Tsarist Russia, the Russian revolution and Stalin as well as the European Reformation, France in the 16th century, Louis XIV and aspects of Irish and Chinese history and 19th century France, plus 20th century USA. politics (Boom and Bust, New Deal and Post-War Boom, and also the Witchcraft Persecution in Europe (1550-1680).

In terms of British history I am very much up to speed with all aspects of its 20th century political history (high politics, parties, electoral history, social history & economic history, right through to the 21st century, in fact); I have also taught most aspects of 19th history, social, economic and political. For the last decade and a half of my school-teaching career I taught the A level course in 16th and 17th century - The Tudors, James I, Charles I, Causes of the English Civil War, Charles II, James II & the Glorious Revolution, the reigns of William & Mary & Queen Anne.

I have recently added 19th century British politics (Reform Bill through Peel, Palmerston, Disraeli and Gladstone to Salisbury) and Witchcraft in Early Modern Europe to my "roster" of topics.

Since becoming a PhD student my expertise level in terms of content knowledge has leaped forward in 20th century British history. However...

...it isn't the historical content of the course that matters so much: technique is the key; know-how; how to write; how to take an exam; how to prepare for the whole exam period; how to approach the whole thing mentally, psychologically; how to be the best you can be; how to be successful - end of story!

I have worked with students on exam preparation and revision, coursework planning and execution and essay writing techniques. It is here that the battle to improve and to reach a fulfillment of potential, often with the reward of high grades, is usually won.

Tutoring Approach:

I don't tinker around the margins of issues. I give students something all those who come for help require: a method to use to dispose of the problems posed by the issue of writing that dreaded thing: the essay! Not a tinkering round the edges of the thing, a tip here, a bit of advice there, but a comprehensive yet simple and absolutely clear set of actions and principles through which the student can fulfill their potential: show the examiner what they know and understand of the topic.

Following on from the above, my approach to tutoring begins and ends with the drive to be successful. If I did not unfailingly improve students, help them to achieve the grades they want and need I would not be writing this.

In between comes what we might describe as philosophy and methods. It's hard to write about methods without immediately mentioning what I suppose might be my strongest "offer" (I don't much like that word but there, I've used it). As a schoolteacher I developed a unique but simple method of essay planning and writing that achieved stunning results. So successful has it been over 20 years that I am astonished that no one else seems to have found it. But in my experience up to February 2013 no teacher has. Essay writing is still something that many, many students find difficult and confusing. It really does not need to be this way.

Obviously content issues are hugely important and here I rely on my communication skills which have yet to let me down! These, naturally, go hand in hand with a knowledge of British and European history across a variety of years which has grown over recent years particularly through my MA studies, my PhD research and through working with students on a range of historical periods, topics and people. I find myself to be adaptable to different types of students. I am able to adapt my language and my technique to fit the situation. I am also somewhat stubborn in that I never give up on solving a problem. If we have to go over time, so be it!

Finally, some more of my personal philosophies of teaching. I believe that students generally do not achieve their potential. With each student I aim to take them to standards (and grades) that they did not think were possible. Without exception I push, push and push until we run out of time as we inevitably do. I also do not believe in lost causes. Much can be achieved in a very short space of time. I have seen this happen over and over again.

There is much more to be said but that, I hope, will do for now.

Craig

Personal Description:
As a motivated, organized and dynamic individual, I feel I can bring so much to the teaching profession. From a very young age I had an interest in computers and Teaching, and a wonder of how they worked. These fascinations lead me to pursue a bachelor's degree in computing, and then I continue to excel in Technology and did my Masters in Information Technology. Then along with my teaching job, I feel that I had developed deep interest in Web Technologies so I did my masters in Computer Applications.
I first realized I would like to become a teacher at secondary school so I continued my career as a teacher in ICT for about 4 years in various schools and really enjoyed working with all key stages. I have got versatile experience of teaching Physics and basic sciences to GCSE students as well. I had a good rapport with my Head Teachers and this has influenced me greatly to pursue a career in teaching.
I believe in teaching with live resources , practical activities , demonstrations , full theory support and assessing my student's honestly so see how my teaching is going on and do I need to make any changes in session plans to make it more innovative. I am a person full of enthusiasm and knowledge.
I believe teaching is not simply only to get students a job -- although this is part of the material equation -- it is about providing students with a set of conceptual tools that can be, and ultimately will be, used in a variety of disparate contexts. It is in other words, about inspiring students to think -- in- and out-side of the classroom.

Teaching Experience:

I got 4 years of Overseas Teaching experience as an ICT Teacher . I have taught Computer Science , Web Technologies and Information Technology in various Secondary schools. I am well versed in English and have done my Bachelors in First Division and my Double Post Graduation in Computer Applications and Information Technology with distinction.
I have achieved Level 3 in Preparing to Teach in Life Long Learning sector (PTLLS) from Filton College , Bristol. I have achieved certification in Web Professionals and achieved ISTQB Certified Tester status as well .
I have more than 5 years of working experience in Retail and Customer services which has helped me to strengthen my communication skills, problem solving skills , experience of working in a fast paced atmosphere with a knowledge of operations , cash handling , audit operations , participating in various discussions in the company at partner level.
My Recent Tutoring students includes students from Winterbourne Academy , City of Bristol College , Filton college and Bradley Stoke Community School and mentoring overseas software testing projects online.

Tutoring Approach:

I am able to motivate my students by using creative and inspirational methods of teaching.
I have great sense of humour which reduces barriers and lightens the atmosphere especially during heavy periods. An ability to make your students laugh will carry you far and gain you more respect. It also increases our confidence level and ease off any nerves in students and as a result students feel more engaged in the lessons and I get a good response which motivates me more to explore more with my learner.

I always prefer to do detail research for my students , their preferred learning styles and any barriers if they have.
I know my students can be visual, auditory or kinaesthetic learners. I have a dept at creating presentation styles for all three. My body language is my main communicator and I keep it positive at all times.
I know that the aggression, negative attitudes and behaviours that i see in some of your students have a root cause. I know that they are really scared young people who have come through some bad experiences in life. This keeps me calm and in control of me, of them and the situation.
I know that no one is more important in the world than anyone else. I know that everyone has a place in the world. I respect my peers and my students. Having that respect for others gets you the respect back from others.
I know that you can change a young person's life by helping them to realise their potential, helping them to grow, helping them to find their talents, skills and abilities.
I am passionate about what I do. Teaching young people is my true vocation in life. My purpose in life is to make a difference.

Personal Description:
My interest in music began at primary school. I took instrumental lessons in flute and vocal tuition at the early age of 7 and piano aged 10. After quickly becoming involved in choirs, orchestras and solo performances I managed to achieve two music scholarships into two Independent schools.

Currently aged 21, I am a recent Music graduate from Bath Spa University. My studies included Opera, Singing, Composition, Performance, Musicology and Community Music. I have covered an extensive variety of repertoire, on all instruments, and performed on a number of occasions. Performances have taken place at St. Peters Basilica, The Pantheon, St. Peters Square, Bath Abbey, Wells Cathedral, Corsham Court, St Michaels Without, Worcester Cathedral, Bath Assembly Rooms and low key events such as termly school concerts and voluntary performances to the elderly.

Alongside teaching, I am interested in providing music-making workshops to local schools. I am also in discussion with the Worcestershire communities, to provide singing sessions for the elderly. Singing provides great enjoyment to many people, and working with community choirs is another factor of teaching I am interested in, as choral music is another great passion of mine. I enjoy composing new music and was honoured with having a recent Christmas composition performed in Bath Abbey's carol service.

Teaching Experience:

Alongside my studies, I have taught mainly piano to a handful of students. I enjoy teaching and consequently on the lookout for any new pupils of all abilities, who are seeking tuition.

Tutoring Approach:

I am passionate about teaching, and believe it's important that all lessons are fun and enjoyable for any pupil. Lesson's include a variety of activities in order to aid different learning styles, from listening to cd's, learning basic music theory and using colour to brighten up scores. For young beginners, I think that it is important to keep in touch with parents, so write in a notepad on a weekly basis about what practice is required for improvement.

I am CRB checked and can offer lessons during the daytime, evening or weekends. I am happy to travel to local areas of Redditch. For any further information, please do not hesitate to get in contact.

Personal Description:
Thank you for looking at my profile.

I want to see young people thrive within the learning environment and achieve the best of their ability.

I previously wrote an English curriculum for adults that do not speak English. This was based on interactive and fun learning, to ensure full engagement and for the students to reach maximum potential.

I believe the key to learning and retaining information is for the student to believe in themselves and their knowledge.

PGCE Secondary Drama

QTS

Teaching Experience:

I have a great amount of experience within the educational system. I have worked with a variety of students. Special needs students in both primary and secondary school settings. I have done a vast amount of work with pupils with self-esteem issues and challenging behaviour. In addition, working with gifted and talented students.

I have taught Drama to both GCSE and A-level students, I have supported students through course work and controlled assessment.

Media and English have been taught up to GCSE.

I have worked in various schools in Sheffield and Birmingham.

I am currently teaching English and Drama in a secondary school in Warwickshire.

Tutoring Approach:

To work with the student on identifying the areas in which their are struggling to reach their full potential and why. Whether it is because they are struggling to understand or they lack in confidence in the particular subject. I would then work with the student to build the gaps in their knowledge and build confidence through interactive and individual learning. A combination of both styles of learning secures knowledge and the belief that the student has the knowledge.

The students progression will be monitored through continual assessment.

The student will also be a part of self-assessment to recognise their own needs and development.

Personal Description:
I am an Oxford graduate and current law student who is passionate about helping students of all ages master their studies and gain the confidence to succeed.

My background is a bit untraditional (I've done two BAs- one in the US and one in the UK), but between my two undergraduate degrees, I have been lucky enough to get the depth and focus of a British BA as well as the flexibility of an American BA. As a result of my background, I have a strong understanding of many subjects and the ability to adapt my thinking and teaching to different disciplines from the creative to the analytical.

I have a 2.i from my BA in Philosophy and Theology from Oxford, a First from my BA in Humanities with Pre-Med courses (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Calculus) at Providence College in the United States, and an IB Diploma. I completed my Graduate Diploma in Law last year and am currently in my final year of legal studies at BPP University.

In my spare time, I like to work on crossword puzzles (I even competed in a tournament last year) and a few other somewhat nerdy indulgences like board games, video games and, of course, Star Wars. I always make time for learning something new where I can, and, having recently worked out the ukulele, I am currently working (slowly) on picking up Japanese.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience tutoring different ages of students in various disciplines, from helping undergraduates improve their essay-writing skills and preparing Oxbridge applicants for interview to assisting primary-school and SEN students with reading, writing and maths. I love helping students build confidence and master topics they once thought too challenging.

One of my favourite subjects to tutor is English and writing. During my first BA, I worked as a writing tutor at my university's tutoring centre, where I helped students analyse literature, brainstorm essay topics, construct thesis statements and outlines, and revise essay drafts for clarity and grammar. Over the past year, I've helped not only GCSE and A-level students but also primary-school SEN students improve their writing skills and confidence.

I am also very excited to tutor in Philosophy. Last year, I had the great pleasure of preparing one of my tutees for a Philosophy interview at Cambridge by discussing various topics and texts and working on essays together each week. We both enjoyed our sessions together greatly, and I was absolutely delighted when she was offered a place.

Finally, I have also worked as a teaching and lab assistant for my university's chemistry department and so am used to adapting my instruction for students with different aptitudes, interests and skillets. As a chemistry lab assistant, I worked alongside a lecturer to help university chemistry students in group hands-on chemistry lab lectures improve their lab techniques and see how each experiment fit in with the curriculum.

Tutoring Approach:

I think the best way to learn something challenging is to let students work through the problem at their own pace until they can see the solution for themselves and build the skills they'll need to succeed in the future on their own, so it's very important for me when I tutor to make sure that the student is in the driver's seat. I like to let the tutee's needs guide each session, so I begin each tutorial by asking the student what he or she wants to focus on and what he or she is struggling with. Whether it's reading through an essay or working through a maths problem, I like to help students break down a complicated problem and let them guide me through their thought processes, correcting and instructing where necessary and encouraging the student during their successes. Of course, there will always be complicated topics that require a more didactic style of tutoring, but I think the Socratic method is much more effective not only for ensuring students truly understand the material, but also for empowering them and giving them confidence in their work.

I believe an important goal for a tutor should be to help her tutee gain confidence, as many students only seek tutoring after having struggled to grasp a concept fully on their own and thus often tend to underestimate their ability in the subject. This is especially true for SEN students, who have often been misunderstood by their teachers and peers. A tutor shouldn't be just an instructor- she should be a coach and cheerleader, too! I honestly believe there is nothing more rewarding than watching my tutees grow in knowledge and confidence over the course of our sessions together.

I also believe that, where possible, it's important to add a dash of something interesting to tutorials, especially with younger students. I've found that when a tutee is losing interest or struggling to engage with the material (often because they're having trouble understanding it), finding new ways to approach the problem, either through games, real-life application or creative thought experiments, can help a student get reacquainted with a subject they might have dismissed as uninteresting.

Personal Description:
I find teaching very interesting and exciting particularly because there is always something fresh to be added when opening up the world of the subject to a new person who inevitably has their own challenges as regards to their goals and current or past attainment. I like to see the connections between the language or literature being studied and the daily life of the student - to me this is the way to transmit the true importance of their studies to the student. I love to mix fun and creativity with more formal tests and drills, using variation in order that the learning does not stagnate.

After Scottish Highers and A Levels, I got into Cambridge and I graduated with a BA in English. Afterwards I did a Masters in Twentieth Century Literature at Goldsmiths, University of London before doing part of a PhD at Leeds University. Immediately folowing my academic studies I started working and volunteering in the charity sector, eventually helping to establish a new homelessness charity in Cambridge.I have been tutoring and teaching since I left university and now it is my career. I do believe tutoring is my vocation.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a tutor and teacher for about 7 years in total. My Masters specialism was in literature, and I have wealth of English literature and language teaching experience. I have worked with children from age 4 upwards and adults of all ages and ability levels. I have worked as a self-employed tutor and also in state-funded and private educational establishments.

Tutoring Approach:

I tailor my approach to the individual depending on their learning style and their areas of interest. I spend time getting to know the student and developing a rapport before preparing lessons which make the learning material appealing to that individual. I like to set timelines, goals and homework so that students have a tangible sense of their progress and achievements. I work with a reward system where students set their own reward for results or outcomes they will work towards. I have experience of students achieving excellent results, but for me it is important that the student progresses and achieves what is appropriate to them and their long term goals
