Personal Description:
I'm a Research Fellow at Cranfield University. I found Chemistry very difficult at High School and have worked hard over the last 8 years studying the science, in the process of gaining my Honours degree and Doctorate, to improve my understanding but I honestly still find it difficult at times. I have a huge amount of enthusiasm for my science and find myself reading Physics, Chemistry and Astronomy in my spare time as well as watching countless lectures and home made videos from other scientists on YouTube.

Teaching Experience:

I have a moderate amount of tutoring experience but I'm confident that this is compensated by my energy and knowledge of my field, I love what I do and revel in helping people understand it with me.

Professionally I have worked with many masters students and tutored them on some more advanced aspects of Chemistry such as Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy and practical Organic Chemistry. I also lecture on several subjects at my University and have received excellent feedback.

Tutoring Approach:

I usually try to work with images first to help the student picture what we are trying to learn. I find that once a student has a working model or analogy in their head it is much easier to advance and increase their understanding eventually leading to the removal of the analogy.

I find that exercises are useful to build a strong memory of facts and figures associated with the science. I don't believe in learning by rote (although it will pass most exams) if you are interested in a sound understanding of a theory or subject. Any tutoring that I provide will be tailored to the student's particular preference in learning style.

Personal Description:
I have a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Aberdeen and before that I got an MChem in Chemistry. I also have extensive knowledge of Biology until A Level and Physics until GCSE. I currently work for an educational publisher working on international education books up to A Level.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a tutor in the past and I have tutored primarily university students (4 years experience) but I do have experience in tutoring school level students in all three sciences. I have successfully tutored students to grade A standard at A Level and GCSE, with one student gaining an A*.

Tutoring Approach:

Due to work commitments I have been away from tutoring for a while (around 4 years) but it is something that I wish to get back into as I found it very rewarding. During a previous role I was selected as a mentor for new graduate trainees which ignited my desire to become a tutor again.

I tend to structure the sessions depending on the needs to the individual. I am happy to simply go over a topic or come up with sample tests - I am totally flexible and will aim to cater for your requirements.

Editor, Durham English Review, since 2012.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer rigorous editing services for university and postgraduate students. My hourly rate is high, relative to other tutors, but I make no apology for my rate. When you contract with me, you get a thorough, professional job from a working academic. You will be apprised of the work I am doing at every step - and you can opt for me to work fewer hours on a project.

Many students regard my editing as an education that helps them mature as academic writers, so that they can take the next step to successful MA and PhD work.

Please * do not * contact me if you need someone to do your writing for you. I accept only accomplished students who want to make substantial advances in their writing. I take my responsibility to the academy very seriously and I will reject any student who tries to use my service to engage in plagiarism.

* I offer a free 30 minute interview via online video chat so that you can determine if my work will meet your needs.

Personal Description:
Hi there,

I'm Alan, I'm an Engineering manager with Siemens, I'm married and live in a lovely part of the Hampshire countryside.

Apart from work, I spend a lot of time cycling and walking the nearby parks and hills.

Teaching Experience:

I've been tutoring for 5 years now, and I am trained as a trainer through work, so I've taught both adults and students. I used to run a training team as part of my last job, and understand a lot about different teaching and learning styles.

Since tutoring I've mostly taught 16 and upwards, physics and maths, and occasionally the odd other question!

Tutoring Approach:

My aim is to make the teaching as simple as possible, and let the student work it out themselves with me providing guidance where need be. Physics, and maths in particular, can be daunting - many people just want to get a good grade and move on, which I understand completely, I'm not going to make you love the subjects but help you get to where you want to be.

Personal Description:
As a recent university graduate, I offer a closer bond with students than most tutors due to the lesser age gap. Many exams that students struggle with are ones that I myself have taken, so I can empathise and relate to issues students face on a better level than older tutors. I graduated in English Literature from UEA with a 2:1, achieved A*AA at A Level in English, Philosophy and History, and obtained 10 GCSEs at A* to A and 2 more at B. I was educated at Wilson's School in Surrey which during my time there was consistently ranked as one of the best boys' state schools in the country, and indeed was at number 1 in the rankings for a few years while I was there.

I am currently working towards an MA qualification with a view to going on to a PhD to pursue a career in academic lecturing and tutoring.

Teaching Experience:

Most of my experience comes from being on the receiving end of teachers and tutors from entrance exam up until university, and understanding their shortcomings and failings and what could have been done better. Crucially, I understand student mentalities and what students want and need at all levels. I have tutored Year 5-6s in Maths and Year 10-11s in English so far. Since joining UK Tutors I have taught a 9 year old in writing skills and a 15 year old in GCSE English.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer a fun and friendly way of helping the student to realise their full potential through going over schoolwork, practice papers and other forms of assessment - but critically, I focus on talking with and building a relationship with the student. I don't want them to see tutoring as just another school classroom with another teacher - it should be a fun and intellectually stimulating environment that they enjoy participating in. My experience has shown that if the student is enjoying themselves, they will perform to a far better standard.

I can offer high level teaching in English and History, as well as Philosophy, Critical Thinking and German to an A Level standard, Maths and Sciences up to GCSE standard, other subjects can be discussed.

Crucially, I was a master at dealing with exam pressure and good coursework - I will provide expert tutoring for students suffering from exam stress and help them to format and write essays for coursework. As I did much of the same things just a few years ago, I understand better than anyone what it feels like!

Teaching Experience:

I am already working with 3 GCSE students and helping them to improve their maths. I have taught Maths to 2nd year economics university student and help the student to improve his maths.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to ensure that my students fully understand the concepts, get ample opportunity to practice and build confidence to a point where they can fully master the topic by tackling a wide range of questions.

I believe, all students learn in different ways and I adapt my teaching to suit their individual needs. I work at a pace that allows me to identify & fill gaps in their education.

I try to make learning fun by using a range of techniques depending on the student's age and ability. I am patient and don't mind thinking of several ways to explain the same thing if there is a particular topic that a student is really struggling. I usually provide the homework after each session so that he/she can practice more about the topic. In between, I do take surprise tests to understand whether the tutee has understood the topic properly or not.

I always prefer to discuss child's progress with his/her parents by the end of each assessment. That would assist me to meet the expectations of parents.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to build strong, personal relationships with students, because I believe personal relationship is foundation to student success. The more associated the student feels, the more teacher earns respect and consideration, the key ingredients for students to learn well. I teach to the student's strength that helps me to minimize the student weaknesses. I always listen and communicate early and often with parents, that helps me to map a better plan for success.
I always believe that, the better lesson planning by tutor leads to student success. I always plan my every session keeping these 6 points in my mind.
1. Outline learning objectives
2. Develop the introduction
3. Plan the specific learning activities (the main body of the lesson)
4. Plan to check for understanding
5. Develop a conclusion
6. Create a practical timeline
