Tutoring Approach:

Academic experience: I have worked in private tutoring, state and private schools, university departments and know how examiners mark and what they expect. I have worked for 2 prestigious Universities and am adept at entrance documents and applications. In addition, one needs to be constantly aware of the changing curricula, mark schemes, and student specifications, knowledge and understanding of which can guarantee a 95%+ grade.

Encouragement: As a sports captain and Global Citizenship Mentor (UCL) I realise the need for a pupil's confidence to be built up before they can achieve better. In my opinion a pupil is never failing, they can just achieve more.

Planning: It is essential for us to have an organised lesson plan, and plan for our future sessions so we can map where we should be heading and what we have achieved. Many students suffer from poor organisation which, if remedied, would immediately proffer far better results.

Education: During my past 8 years of college, undergraduate and graduate university I have been educated in a host of valuable disciplines that help interest and inspire any student.

Personal Description:
After qualifying as a teacher, following a degree in Psychology at Loughborough University and a P.G.C.E. at Nottingham Trent, I completed my QTS at a small primary school in East Sussex.
In 2004, I moved to Spain to pursue my passion of living and working in a foreign country and I taught in a British school teaching the National Curriculum to a mixture of English and non-English speaking children.
Returning to the UK in 2008, I lived near Kingston-Upon-Thames and worked at Holy Cross Prep. School.
Since leaving a full time teaching job to have children, I have been working as a private tutor.

Teaching Experience:

At Firle C. of E. School I taught a mixed class of Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Although challenging, it showed me the importance of teaching to the individual child's needs.
During my 3 years at Holy Cross Prep. School I was a Year 2 class teacher. There was a high level of expectation for the academic achievement of the children. In my final year, an (ISI) inspection was carried out and the school was deemed to be 'outstanding'.
Over the past 4 years, I have tutored a number of children in numeracy and literacy from year 1 to year 6.

Tutoring Approach:

I have found that a balance of structured work and fun, interactive, educational games, all based on a clear learning objective, leads to the best improvement in understanding.
There is no charge for the first lesson as I find this is a good opportunity to meet each other and to learn about the particular areas where the additional support is required.

I am a friendly, approachable and professional tutor with extensive experience and an excellent track record for enabling students to achieve the grades that they want. With a background in molecular biology, I tutor biology and chemistry students of all abilities.

I am more than happy to provide references from my previous clients.

Teaching Experience:

I have diverse experience of working in education and have recently finished working for the European Journal for Science Teachers. When I'm not tutoring, I work for a science education charity, working closely with teachers.

Personal Description:
Hello, my name is Luis. I am a PhD candidate at the University of Aberdeen working on oil spills in the deep sea. I am from Spain and I am very passionate about academia and learning in general.

My background is on oceanography, where I have covered ecology (biology), ocean dynamics and sediment geochemistry (chemistry). Data interpreting is part of my research work and it involves statistics of academic level and mathematical modelling.

I collaborated with AU Science Magazine writing blog posts and editing articles. I am currently involved in a Research Development initiative to create a collaborative framework within the University of Aberdeen for researchers and students alike.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a demonstrator at the University of Aberdeen since October 2014, where I assist in the following courses in two Schools:

School of Biological Sciences:
- Oceans and Society (SX1015)
- Animal Population Ecology (ZO3307)
- Ecology and Environmental Science (BI1511)

College of Natural and Computing Sciences:
- Chemistry for the Life Sciences (CM1020)
- Chemistry for the Physical Sciences (CM1021)

I have ample tutoring experience from when I was at University in Spain and I continue tutoring to this day in Aberdeen (+6 years). I have long-distance students whom I tutor via Skype. I was also a collaborating student at University in Spain where I prepared practical work for students.

Tutoring Approach:

Where students find difficulties I like to break down concepts into simpler pieces that then assemble to represent the entire idea. I also think it is important to let the pupil know the purpose of these concepts in a wider context so that they can appreciate the value of learning the contents of the course.

Finally, I am an advocate of enjoying learning and always endeavour to make lessons as fun and interactive as possible.

Personal Description:
Hello,

My name is Mayan and I am a 3rd year Politics and International Relations undergraduate. I am a determined and ambitious student who is looking to tutor a young person who is struggling with their political studies.

I have always had a natural interest in national and international politics; it is ever-changing and I like to make sure I am up to date with what is happening in the world as it affects every single person!

Teaching Experience:

I have had teaching experience with children between the ages of 5 - 12 years teaching English and Maths. In 2012, I ran a debating society in my school where I coached 13-18 year olds debating and public speaking skills.

Tutoring Approach:

Firstly, I like to meet my student and understand what their course is all about as I understand from personal experience that depending on which board you are with, your exams and assignments will vary. Following this it is important for me to find out what exactly the student is struggling with; is it learning the content or exam study skills? Once we have established this, I like to take a structured approach to tutoring where both the student and I will agree on what we would like to achieve each week - whether it is how to make a great essay or learning a new political topic!

I like to motivate my students to love what they are studying and not to just do it for the sake of it. I hope that I can help you with not only the political content but in really enjoying the subject!

Where I teach: University of Southampton. This is because I truly believe that it is important to be in a quiet and focused room in a study environment! This is useful for both myself and the student to ensure the best grades.

I am very flexible so if there is anything that you require as a student or parent, please let me know!

Although intending to pursue a career in teaching after University, I found myself embarking on a Musical journey instead. I have been lucky enough to travel to many parts of the World and have met many people from all different cultures and backgrounds. I believe that this has given me valuable experience in understanding people as individuals rather than as groups . Although still a professional music producer, I still have a passion for teaching and working with young people and so am now looking to use the life skills I have acquired to help where I can. I am creative, patient, calm and a very good listener.

Teaching Experience:

Working on-to-one with students who have difficulty reading and/or writing at Downland's Community School,Hassocks.

Personal Description:
I am nineteen years old, entering my second year of a BA(H) degree in Literature at University of Highlands and Islands, Perth College campus. I am extremely enthusiastic, particularly in English, but also in Mathematics. I intend to do a Masters at the end of my course, and then move on to a post-graduate in Secondary School Teaching to become an English teacher. I trained in Irish dance for 7 years and have been a member of Girl-Guiding Scotland for 15 years.

Teaching Experience:

I have 5 years experience working with children and teenagers and taught Irish dance for two years. I am an enthusiastic teacher and can communicate coherently both verbally and in writing. I have always found aiding someone's learning very rewarding, especially when they achieve their desired results.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to assess my approach on an individual basis, however ideally, I would spend the time approaching both exam content and folio work for those to whom it is applicable and chronologically through the curriculum, for those whom it is not.
