I might be expensive but I am worth it as your child will see a marked improvement in their results and confidence levels. To assess whether I am the right tutor for you I offer the first lesson for free.

I also offer short intensive Maths courses for entrance to American Universities on some weekends. Each course is 2 days long and is specifically tailored for UK students. It is specifically designed to bridge the gap in knowledge, format and techniques between the GCSE Maths exam and the SAT exam. I was awarded a First Class Honours degree from University College London in 1997 and went on to study a PhD in Quantum Mechanics. On successful completion of my PhD in 2001 I started work at Thales Research and Technology (TRT) where I led projects on Adaptive Learning Systems and Information Management. I initiated the first programme to span the three TRT laboratories in France, Netherlands and UK in the area of Cognitive Systems research. I then went on to set up and lead a large collaborative team between TRT and University of Surrey to study remote collaboration technologies. I joined General Dynamics United Kingdom Limited in 2005, primarily to ensure exploitation of DIF DTC technologies into the UK Ministry of Defence Equipment Programme. I received my Chartered Physicist status in 2004 and am now a director of an innovation company.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience ranges from teaching GCSE students all the way up to teaching PhD students to improve their thesis writing skills. One of my students improved from a D to an A at GCSE level after just six months of tuition with me, and commonly students improve by at least one grade. Apart from the usual syllabuses I am experienced at teaching students the Maths section of the SATs and ACTs in order to get scholarships to American Universities.

Tutoring Approach:

My tuition method involves making Maths and Physics fun so that children and young adults will remember their lessons and overcome the "I can't do science" syndrome. So that you can assess whether or not I am the right tutor for your child I offer the first lesson for free.

I have recently started teaching bookkeeping to clients whose duties include recording finance transactions but who do not have formal training in that kind of work.

Tutoring Approach:

Double-entry bookkeeping is a beautiful and robust way of recording financial transactions, but all-too-often it is shrouded in mystery and bristling with incomprehensible jargon. So instead of using double-entry bookkeeping, many people use columns of numbers, either on spreadsheets or in big red books, and risk making mistakes, leaving things out, and losing track of what has been paid for and what is still outstanding.

I can teach you double-entry bookkeeping if you are methodical and willing to learn -- you do not have to be a whizz at finance and you do not have to be fantastically numerate. We will proceed at your pace. Initial sessions will cover the very basics, and we will not need a computer for this, but as you progress you will reach a point at which it would be beneficial to apply your learning directly to the computerised bookkeeping system you are using or going to use in your business; if you do not have real transactions to record ("post"), we can invent some and post them using a practice set of accounts.

Learning happens best in a comfortable and un-hurried environment in which the focus is on acquiring skills and knowledge, and not on getting the accounts sorted out.

I am a qualified French & Italian teacher in secondary education and have acquired a great amount of experience throughout my different posts and have gained great confidence in teaching the new National 4 and 5 qualifications. I also have experience teaching the Higher Course in both languages. During my fourth year of University, I worked in two high schools in Lyon, France as an English language assistant, teaching children, teenagers and young adults, from the age of nine to twenty three. I was responsible for helping them with all aspects of the language, and developing their reading, writing, listening and verbal skills by preparing and working on a number of different activities. I also taught them about British culture, history and lifestyles so as to help develop their knowledge of Britain, particularly Scotland, in general. I ensured that I worked differently with different individuals, depending on their style of learning and I took a different approach accordingly. I aimed to make my style of teaching both informative and fun so that they enjoyed learning and I believe this is something I am always successful in as many tutees I have worked with have commented on my positive and helpful way of teaching.

In my final year of high school I was involved in the 'Peer Education' programme whereby I went into five different French and Italian classes and helped those who were experiencing difficulties with the subjects. I helped particularly with grammar issues as these seemed to pose the most problems for pupils and I also helped them prepare for upcoming speaking and writing tests. I also helped pupils to understand easier ways of making the most of their French or Italian dictionary and taught them creative and simple of ways of tackling listening and reading tests. Moreover, I worked on a one to one basis with a Higher grade pupil who was experiencing problems with French and we explored different ways of making difficult areas that much easier. I was also part of the 'Paired Reading' programme where I worked with pupils aged eleven to fifteen who experienced reading difficulties. I met with three pupils for one hour each week, on an individual basis, and we would work on techniques for improving their reading ability and they would read to me. These two programmes were very gratifying, especially when I witnessed a pupil's confidence grow as their reading skills improved.

I have also tutored two family friends, both in French and Italian, with a great focus on exam preparation and the skills that they needed to do well on class tests. I also help my niece and nephew with their French, focusing greatly on the areas they find the most difficult.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a different approach to my tutoring depending on the individual I am working with. On my first session with my tutee I will find out the areas that they are experiencing the most difficulty in, and what their strengths and weaknesses are, as this will help me to develop an effective and helpful way of teaching. I prepare various worksheets, practice tests and activities which are interactive and will allow for valuable learning. I will ask the tutee what their preferred way of learning is and look at ways in which they successfully learn in other subjects and try to incorporate this in to my way of teaching. I encourage tutees to ask questions wherever necessary and to state if they wish me to try a different approach. I believe communication is the key to successful learning and I pride myself on my friendly and approachable nature and my ability to achieve results in my tuition. On the whole, I am aware that my way of teaching has to be of benefit to the tutee so I will tailor my approach to suit their wants and needs.

At undergraduate level I studied Classics at Oxford University, which involved rigorous language learning and a close engagement with set texts. I was awarded an academic scholarship for my examination results. Then I completed a Master's Degree in Latin literature at UCL, focusing particularly on the influence of Latin literature on contemporary theatre. I was awarded The Dean's List prize for academic excellence. It is Latin poetry that particularly holds my attention because, even after two thousand years, there is still so much new to be said about it.

Teaching Experience:

Private tutor for six years, with significant experience in private tuition of Latin, Greek and English at all levels.

Taught Latin at a prep school. This required lesson planning, homework marking and well-tailored teaching because of the small class sizes. Although we referred to the 'Minimus' textbook frequently as a well-planned learning scheme there was no strict curriculum, which meant that we could use the lessons to explore some of the more enjoyable aspects of studying Classics.

Teaching assistant for primary school Latin classes. The class size was small, which allowed me to get to know the students individually and help each of them according to their level.

Excellent, up-to-date knowledge of the current syllabuses for Common Entrance, GCSE and A-level and have worked extensively from the Oxford and Cambridge Latin Courses, from Athenaze, Greek to GCSE, the ISEB Common Entrance publications and from other frequently used textbooks.

Tutoring Approach:

The most important thing is to find out the areas with which the student will need the most help. In the first session, I'll discuss with the student which areas we should focus on, then I will plan my lessons carefully to address those areas of difficulty.

I like to build routine into tuition sessions, particularly when learning vocabulary, so that the student knows what to expect in each session.

I completed my PhD in History of Art at University College London (UCL) in 2013. I have published my research in a number of academic journals and edited book collections, and I am a practicing artist, permently based in Hulme, Manchester.

I am currently a Society Research Fellow at Cornell University Society for the Humanities (USA) for the academic year 2016-17, and will therefore only be available for Skype appointments until the end of July 2017.

I am a fully trained secondary school teacher, specialising in Art & Design and Photography at KS3, KS4 & KS5. I have 9 years teaching experience, including working as a specialist Learning Support Teacher, and in Special Needs schools catering for children and young adults with a range of special educational needs, from moderate learning difficulties to profound and multiple disabilities.

I have particular expertise in studio practice (art and design), digital and darkroom photography (theory, history and practice), literacy, social and vocational skills, as well as History of Art, Anthropology and History of Medicine at undergraduate level.

Tutoring may take place at the student's home, or at my art studio in central Manchester, where I can provide a range of art materials and resources by prior arrangement, for more intensive practical art sessions. Please note that I can travel within 20 miles of central Manchester based on the fee structure quoted below, travelling further will incur a small additional fuel fee.

I have had recent successes with my private students, one of whom attended one-to-one sessions at my Manchester studio for 8 weeks and improved her predicted GCSE Art result of a B by two grades, achieving an A* in her final art exam. My most recent undergraduate student also attained a First overall in her History of Art degree, achieving a high score of 78 on her dissertation project, with intensive tutorial support conducted via Skype.

*Please note that due to the time-intensive nature of undergraduate level tutoring, I am only able to take on a maximum of three undergraduate tutees at any given time. Please see below for my current availability for tutoring at this level.*

Personal Description:
My name is Kieron, and I am a second year Psychology student. I am achieving first class grades so far, and am holding a number of positions within the University in addition to my studies. These include mentoring, research assistant work, lecturer's teaching assistant, along with student representative work and student engagement officer work.

I believe I can break down topics to easy-to-understand segments, and have experience of working with many different people, of varying levels of proficiency within Psychology.

Teaching Experience:

I have extensive experience of mentoring 1st and 2nd year Psychology students, on a variety of topics such as biological psychology, cognitive psychology, research methods (using spss), and have delivered guest lectures to 1st year students.
I have also assisted in MSc modules in seminars and workshops.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that no topic too complicated when broken down. Even the most complex processes in the brain can be turned into interesting and manageable topics.

As a current mentor at my university, I appreciate the fact that not all students engage with teachers, and so I believe that my approach can bridge that gap. My grades are high and I know what is required to do well in Psychology, and so I can translate that into tailoring my tutoring to only include the things that will result in higher marks and a deeper understanding of core psychological principles.

I am an experienced journalist and academic tutor. I have spent hundreds of hours of teaching in classes and I have an outstanding ability to make even the most complicated concept understandable, due to my professional experience in the Media . I am proficient in producing various types of texts, from academic essays to fiction and blog content and I have tons of experience in producing them, both in Greek and in English.

Academically, I have two masters degrees from two of the most prestigious institutions in the U.K. The fields of my studies are Politics (specifically, political theory and constitutional design) and EU Politics. I graduated both M.Sc.s with distinction and particularly, my dissertations were examples of academic research of the highest standards and quality.

Teaching Experience:

I have considerable experience in teaching, acquired during my academic career but also during the early stages of my professional career, when I used to work as a teaching assistant of various subjects, including English as a foreign language in Greece, Politics and EU Politics. I have worked with students of s undergraduate and graduate level, but also adult professionals.

Tutoring Approach:

I see teaching and especially tutoring as a means of communicating something that is known and familiar to me, to another person. In order to be clear and concise, I try to asses what the individual knows about the issue that we are about to talk about and then I try give my teaching a structure of sections and subsections, in which I try to cover as much information as possible in the minimum possible time.

My experience in journalism has taught me that I have to start from the bare minimum, the essentials of the concept I am about to explain and then build up by adding extra information, giving examples, making historical comparisons and giving the context. Simultaneously, I am trying to asses whether my listener has understood and is at ease with what I have already covered.
