Personal Description:
I am a University of Portsmouth graduate and consider myself to be confident, honest and reliable and enjoy teaching languages, thriving on communicating with new people, especially in a foreign tongue. Having attained GCSEs, A Levels, a Languages and communications degree and a Masters, I have studied a wide range of subjects and use this experience in my language teaching. I also spent time abroad improving my language skills and cultural knowledge.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught both adults and children language skills and exchanged language teaching with other learners whilst at university. I have also undertaken a placement teaching young children with language games and am an after school club leader for "el club espagnol". I also teach language for business use in both French and Spanish.
However, please be aware that I have no official teaching qualifications, just a desire to help others learn a language.

Tutoring Approach:

For new learners, I work on developing the four main language skills simultaneously; listening, speaking, writing and reading, adapting the vocabulary and grammar to their needs.
For learners with prior knowledge, I look for weaknesses in the foreign language and work primarily on improving these before moving on to more difficult aspects. The first lesson is used primarily to assess the learners level of language and also to discuss what they want to achieve.
For language for business students I focus on improving basic language skills using financial and economic resources to improve business vocabulary.

Personal Description:
I am a student at Brunel University studying financial mathematics, I have taught many of my family and friends and am always helping around exam time. I enjoy teaching children and have found that if you give some children a chance to think without rushing them it works wonders.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught many students at GCSE level in mathematics, have taught basic french to students and also alot of family friends and family.

Tutoring Approach:

I make teaching fun, I interact games (especially for younger students) so that they catch on quicker without noticing that they are learning. I also encourage my students to do a little bit of homework for me each week (only about half an hours worth as i know that they have their own school work to do) but this does stop them forgetting what they have learnt the week before.

I also like to interact the parents in sitting and learning with their children (if the parents wish to) so that the work does not seem like such a chore but like a family activity with games.

Personal Description:
I have over seven years experience tutoring privately. I particularly enjoy seeing a pupil master an area that had been previously inaccessible to that pupil and sharing the joy that is felt. Most of my teaching experience has been gathered working with SEN pupils and I am well aware of the need to be consistent, patient, creative and supportive when tutoring - all qualities that I possess in abundance.

Teaching Experience:

2004-Present: Head of English/History, Mill Hill County High School, Oak Hill Campus (Specialist EBD school), East Barnet London
2004 Jan-2004 Jul: teacher of English/SEN, Lea Valley High School, Enfield London. Specialist Sports College and mixed secondary school catering to over 1000 pupils, 45% of whom are statemented as having SEN.
Sep 2003-Jan 2004: Teacher of Geography/SEN, Wandle Valley EBD school, Carshalton Surrey
1999-2003: Teacher of History/English/Citizenship, Charlie Smith High School, Kingston Jamaica

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer not to be overly intrusive. I will guide and support pupils as much as possible and give them as much resources as they need. However, i do believe in encouraging pupils to learn at their own pace and within the constraints of their respective learning styles. I believe in empowering my tutees to 'discover' and to solve problems with my help as opposed to being totally reliant on me for the answers.

Personal Description:
I have recently completed my degree in Modern History and English. I studied at Wadham College, Oxford. I achieved First Class Honours. These results are reflective not only of excellent academic standards, but also and importantly of my love for my subjects, and of a dedicated and conscientious work ethic.

I am currently taking a 'year out', before pursuing further academic study. During this time I hope to pursue a mix of work, research, and travelling, learning a language along the way!

Teaching Experience:

Although I do not have any paid teaching experience, I have worked on a number of projects which necessitated taking responsibility for the education, support, or leadership of young people. These have included:

- Peer support leader within the APAUSE programme ('Added Power and Understanding in Sex Education') which offered sex education and empowerment lessons for younger teenagers.

- Co-director role in secondary level production of 'Les Miserables' with responsibility for over 100 children and teenagers aged between 11 and 18.

- Co-director role in community theatre production of 'West Side Story' with responsibility for working with approximately 50 children and teenagers.

- Assistant role for GCSE-level 'Speaking and Listening Days' which involved aiding teachers in helping students improve the quality of their English language GCSE assessed work.

- Worked with over 120 foreign children and teenagers whilst employed by a Cambridge-based language summer school as a programme coordinator and social leader.

Tutoring Approach:

I am passionate about learning - specifically in my own fields of History and English, but also in my previous A-Level subjects, such as Drama and Theatre Studies.

I believe that when offered education through the right methods (which are not the same for each student), everyone is able to maximise their own ability to learn. The right approaches should allow everybody to benefit both as a student, but also as a person - through fulfilling their potential, and enjoying the experience.

My approach to tutoring would therefore combine an engagement with assessment objectives and the core subjects which must be covered to secure strong results in exams or coursework with working out the best ways for each individual student to learn, remember, and apply this knowledge.

Having just endured a gruelling few months of revision for Oxford Finals I am well aware of the plethora of tactics which can be employed both as revision methods but also as originary learning techniques. I would therefore bring a veritable 'arsenal' of modes of teaching and learning to any student, before discriminating between these to find the best way of learning for the individual. I would seek not to impose 'my way' of learning upon them, but to first spend time talking to them to assess the ways in which they feel that they learn best, before trying out these methods in relation to concrete subjects which have to be learnt.

I am, however, a great believer in learning through repetition and application. Rather than teaching vaste swathes of material in a single lesson, I would seek to establish clear lesson goals, and to review material learnt several times within each lesson, ensuring that the student feels comfortable with using the material learnt.

Personal Description:
I am currently a student of English Language and Literature at the University of Leeds, in my second year. In my first year, I was pleased to finish with a 2:1. At A-level, I studied English Literature, English Language and History, as well as an AS-Level in Psychology, and achieved A grades in all subjects. As a recent school leaver, I have the advantage of understanding the requirements of new style exams, such as essay techniques and formulas, from first-hand experience, and can understand the difficulties of my students. I am particularly interested in helping students make the jump from GCSE- AS Level, and from AS Level- A Level.

Teaching Experience:

Although I have little formal teaching experience, having only under-taken work experience for a short period in a rural primary school, I was available to assist a number of my A-Level and AS Level classmates during revision, as well as throughout the year. I was pleased to find that I could often find new ways to explain difficult concepts to my peers which made them easier to understand, particularly in History and Psychology.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is that each student is different, with different concerns and educational needs. I have a fairly informal approach which I often find helps students who find the classroom environment to be too constricting. More than anything, I have a friendly approach to my students which helps to reduce some of the pressure that they feel, particularly around exam time.

Personal Description:
I am currently in my final term at Durham University studying towards a BA in English and Philosophy.
As a student myself, I understand the pressures posed by academic study and, as a result, feel that I am able to communicate effectively with other students.

Teaching Experience:

I have privately tutored a number of friends of the family and have received much positive feedback.

Tutoring Approach:

As a student, I am fully aware that some methods of teaching can be tedious and uninspiring. Therefore I ensure that my lessons are as enjoyable as possible. With GCSE and A-Level I find the most effective way to improve is to go over past exam papers and draught out potential plans to questions. In this way I try to balance personal study with constructive feedback. I generally find that working one to one is the most effective method of teaching, since everyone learns in different ways, however I am happy to work with a larger group if this is required.

Personal Description:
I'm a Fine Art Graduate originally from Northern Ireland. I have recently returned from Thailand where I spent 3 months teaching English, and one month riding a motorcycle from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam to raise money for the British Red Cross.

Teaching Experience:

My most recent experience of teaching was also my most challenging one, I spent three months in Thailand, where I taught English as a second language for three months to 11 to 15 year olds. I also have experience in both Mathematics and Art classes at secondary level in England and Northern Ireland. And I am planning to apply for a PGCE in the coming academic year.

Tutoring Approach:

From my time in Thailand I learnt that patience and persistence are key in teaching along with making the subject matter approachable, current and interesting for the students to learn from.

Personal Description:
I have a first from Cambridge in Sciences. That involved 2 years of maths, and also a summer school in Cambridge for extra maths. I won a scholarship while at Cambridge.

Teaching Experience:

I have been giving private tuition for over six years. This has involved meeting a lot of people at a lot of different levels. I often have parents say that their child can not understand maths. However, I have yet to meet such a child. Some have to work harder than others to catch up, but I have yet to meet the person who cannot learn maths. I also get a lot of adults who need maths to retrain for new jobs. I enjoy working with them.

I get good results. Among other successes , in the recent GCSE, a student got her A a year early, another got a C a year early, and in August last year, one of my students passed her AMFIT course enabling her to go on a teacher training course this year, instead of having to wait until September next year.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to be friendly, patient and understanding. I aim to teach the concepts behind maths, rather than rote learning. My lessons are also packed with work for the student.

I also am preparing short videos to cover maths modules. These videos will be comprehensive and detailed. They will include exercises, and fully worked out past papers. Watching these videos, at a cost of one pound per hour, will save students a lot of lessons. I have already created hundreds of short videos to cover C1, C2,C3 at AS Level and Higher GCSE Level. That is about ten pence per video for comprehensive tuition for my students.

Personal Description:
I am a forty year old University Lecturer (currently with the Open University) and have been teaching statistics to undergraduates for fifteen years. I hold a Ph.D. in Biology, specialising in statistical methods- I studied the social dynamics of wild baboon troops in Kenya!

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching Statistics for 15 years to undergraduate biologists and psychologists- this is roughly equivalent to A level maths.

Tutoring Approach:

I love statistics! And I hope to help you love them too. From experience I know that many students find it difficult to convert questions which contain largely verbal material into a mathematical form that they can then solve. I can help you with this by developing your understanding of the few basic ideas that underlie all exam questions you will encounter at A level.
We'll do this by working through set problems together and checking your understanding at each stage of the solution to make sure you understand what the numbers actually mean.

Please note that I provide tuition only on the Statistics either for A level Mathematics or for undergraduates studying a non mathematical degree.

Personal Description:
I am a 29 year old, qualified teacher. I have recently moved to Brighton and am looking to carry on tutoring in the evenings. I have a degree from Chichester University for maths and education (Yeh I know... sounds really exciting!!) which sounds more impressive than it actually is.
I love to joke and have fun and this comes across in my classroom environment and teaching.

Teaching Experience:

I am an experienced Primary school teacher of 8 years. The majority of my career has been spent working with 9-11 year old pupils, many of whom have had learning needs and difficulties.
I was math co-ordinator in my old school for 5 years and class maths teaching as my speciality.

Tutoring Approach:

My relaxed personality comes across in my teaching style and helps those I teach to feel comfortable and not pressured. This atmosphere develops pupils' confidence and ensures they are happy to learn from their mistakes rather than feel they can't do the work. My most recent tutee's mum contacted me regarding her daughter's maths level. She was year 6 and not predicted to get the government's expected level of level 4 in her SAT tests.
After identifying her weaknesses, I developed a programme of sessions that helped her gain a secure level 4.
