When approaching the individual student, I always try to diagnose what barriers are preventing him from improving further and I make sure that the student understands what they need to do and how to do it. Feedback on exam questions is an important part of my tutoring: I want students to reflect on their level of understanding and on their exam strategies. In revising concepts, I explore my student's knowledge and address any gap or misconceptions that they may have built up in their previous study. Students find my sessions enjoyable and helpful

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching and tutoring A-level chemistry for 11 years. I specialise in the AQA exam board and work as an examiner and adviser to schools. I have also been teaching online for 5 years using the EvoTuition tutoring platform and have new digital teaching resources for 2017. I previously taught at Durham University and received the Durham University Teaching and Learning Award in 2011. I now tutor exclusively for AQA due to my work for this exam board (since 2013 I no longer offer tuition for OCR, Edexcel or CIE boards).

I graduated from MSc Financial Computing at UCL with a distinction and did my bachelor degree in Mathematics (Upper Second Class) at UCL.

Having spent my childhood in Luxembourg, I am fluent in 4 languages (German, French, English and Luxembourgish) and semi-fluent in Swedish. My father is French and my mother is German - thus I am at a native level in both French and German.

Thus I have been tutoring up to 6 students at a time in Mathematics, German and French.

Since I have a strong background in music, having played the piano since the age of 3 and having won several international piano competitions as well as considering a career as a concert pianist, I have also tutored several students in Piano.

I am currently working as a Tableau developer and am thus more than happy to offer tutoring in Tableau.

I take pride in my tutoring. All my students have managed to reach their goals, be it personal achievements or needing to be prepared for exams. My most promising student started out with an average of F in German and, a year later, successfully completed his German GCSE with an A.

Tutoring Approach:

All of my students enjoy my teaching style, as it is less formal and thus more relaxed. It has made all of my students motivated as, from my overall experience, the last thing a kid or teenager wants to do outside of school is a lesson that reminds them of school. To make lessons more fun, I am using several apps and websites that enable for a better interactivity within the lessons and allow me to track the progress through some of the apps later on and showcase it to the student's parents. From my experience, this way of teaching enables them to be open to a bigger intake of knowledge and results in faster and more detailed learning.

I very much believe that the best way to teach is through clear explanation and, where possible, an explanation of the root of things. For example, where particular formulas or ideas are derived from. I also believe every student is different and may require different methods of teaching, perhaps not available in the classroom. I feel am suited towards students who may feel they learn better if they are tutored by someone who is more of a peer than a teacher. My name's Kate, I live in Somerset and have two young children. Although I am British, I have spent most of my life abroad so I consider myself international.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught all levels in Paris, Hong Kong, Madrid and Cairo. My teaching experience includes general, business English, conversation, and exam preparation. I have worked with children, teenagers and adults.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is friendly and student centred. Building confidence is very important, as is pronunciation.
