Personal Description:
Having recently graduated from University in Ireland, I have now moved to the UK to study for a Masters degree in Occupational Therapy. I have a passion for Psychology and a keen interest in English drama and poetry. I also love music. I hold a grade VI qualification in piano from the Royal Academy of Music and have co-produced and recorded a CD for charity.

Teaching Experience:

I have previously tutored students ranging in age from approx 12 to 17 years. However, my new role as a student Occupational Therapist has given me the opportunity to work one-to-one with people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a very friendly, caring disposition and believe that a good relationship between tutor and student is key to success. I have a personal, one-to-one approach to tutoring, ensuring the student has a thorough understanding of any material. I prefer to set out our initial goals up front, so that both the tutee and I have a plan to work from. This enables us to better evaluate the direction the tutoring is going and see specific successes and failures to tailor future sessions. I am relaxed and informal, whilst still maintaining a high level of professionalism. I feel this is the best way to impart knowledge since people are more responsive to someone they can engage with. Ultimately, we will work at your own pace and target those areas you feel most concerned about. I will be punctual, friendly and helpful and will guarantee a positive experience.

Personal Description:
I am currently studying focusing on my tuition and this is now my main profession. I have recently finished studying Neuroscience at UCL. I have a very enthusiastic approach to learning and believe the combination of determination and attitude are the recipe for success. I am patient and understanding, but am aware that, at times, discipline needs to be enforced (with the younger students). I'm here to improve exam results and develop the general knowledge and attitude of my students to the subjects. I can provide a very efficient 'crash course' in the run up to exams, whilst also maintain a long term relationship with students to ensure they consistently are making the most of their academic opportunities and examinations.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored a variety of ages - from 4 to 18 year-olds. I am a part time teaching assistant for a year 1 class, teaching hand writing and encouraging concentration and curiosity. I have been tutoring for over six years now and have now taken up tutoring on a full-time basis. As I have recently been a student, the syllabus is still fresh in my mind and I have a better understanding of the stresses and confusions of the syllabus. I can tutor in a focused manner for specific exams, such as GCSEs or entrance exams and I can also tutor to improve students' general ability and understanding of their current syllabus, to ensure that school life is made more manageable and any exams can be planned for in advance. I have an extremely good previous record with my students and am yet to have a student who has not achieved the school they want. As in my academic career, I had a multitude of entrance exams to gain a place in my number one institution.

I have consistently had high grades - from receiving 10*s at GCSE, all As at A-Level and a first in my degree in Neuroscience. I also have a multitude of excellent references from my previous and current students. I therefore believe, whilst I am always improving myself and my tutoring skills, I have a wealth of experience behind me to help any students achieve their goals.

Tutoring Approach:

I comprehend the need for excellence under exam conditions and I encourage students to learn exam techniques from a young age. However, I strongly believe that the attitude and enthusiasm for a subject is the key to success. It is important not to focus solely on exams and to develop knowledge for personal development and improvement. I adapt my teaching styles to each student; each lesson is based on the student's current ability and what each students' personal goals are.

Personal Description:
I have been a teacher for 20 years. My experience in different types of schools and with different types of pupils is extensive. I have proven to be popular with the overwhelming majority of my pupils over the last two decades. I have always taught what has been best for my pupils and tried to speak with them like the young men and women they will one day become. I believe in the education of the whole person.
If you would like a more in-depth picture of me then you can read the interview at the Tom Brown website under articles: 'to tutor or not to tutor?'
Also, if you need for me to travel over 15 miles on the road there will be a small charge for petrol and travel time.
On average I teach 10-15 tutees each week. So as you can see I am very much in demand and teach mostly from 4-8pm on weekdays and in the mornings on Saturdays.
In my private time I write novels for children and play cricket when summer comes around.

Teaching Experience:

In the last 20 years have taught numerous syllabi and courses, as well as many subjects: Geography, English, Mathematics, PE, Games, RE, Humanities, History, PSHE and Science - all in a variety schools. I have seen and experienced many types of academic performance from high-performing grammar schools to comprehensives on 'special measures'. I have taught pupils with statements and pupils hoping to attain Oxbridge entrance. I have held a variety of positions of responsibility within schools, particularly in the pastoral system. I am a grade 'A' examiner for the third year in a row for AQA GCSE Geography: therefore I do have very specific knowledge of what examiners are looking for when dealing with GCSE Geography.
I am currently tutoring a number of pupils to pass 11+ and 12+ entrance exams for local grammar schools. I also have students I am preparing for GCSE retakes in Maths. I am teaching the whole of the A2 Geography syllabus online to a tutee in Moscow.
Where Geography A level syllabuses are concerned, I have tutored the following syllabuses in the last academic year: WJEC, Edexcel and AQA.

Tutoring Approach:

The relationships with my pupils are my strongest suit: relating and communicating with them at their level is vital to learning. An unambiguous attitude to life flows into my relationships with students: these could be characterised as demonstrative, caring, lively, fair and firm.
Initially, it is vitally important to check that my tutee is 'on-board' with being tutored. In the first session I will try to identify what it is the tutee needs. I will need access to school reports and examples of my tutees work. Through discussion with my tutee and some parental input it should become clear the reason for the tutoring. Then I will be in a position to proceed and design a personalised scheme of work for my tutee. Homework will always be set, depending upon the demands placed upon the tutee by the normal school week. The tutee will be far more involved with learning than in a normal school class where they can 'hide', so prospective tutees need to expect plenty of chat and discussion reviewing work and giving feedback to me, and vice-versa.

Personal Description:
With a Bachelor's in Electronics & Communication Engineering from India, I am an academically oriented person, about to begin my Master's in Experimental Psychology this year in UK. My interest in interdisciplinary research arises from a firm grounding in both physical and life sciences, which I pursued jointly up till A-level, and a general enthusiasm for understanding the world around me. In this regard, I view knowledge as a dynamic tool for creative work, without setting the limits of any particular field, and being able to see the bigger picture while appreciating the details. My approach to any subject follows this principle, where enthusiasm and appreciation go hand in hand with understanding.

Teaching Experience:

While pursuing my Engineering, I tutored a student with mild learning disability for 2 years, in English, combined Science and Maths, through his Year 7-9. The experience of teaching someone with special learning needs made me more aware of the different ways in which students perceive and acquire knowledge. Moreover throughout my student life, I have always believed that the best way to understand something is to teach it. Thus I have always loved to play the role of the teacher amongst my own peer and juniors, in school as well as college. My experience as a teacher is mostly about being able to transfer your holistic understanding of seemingly disjointed facts, to the student. Once this appreciation sets in, I have observed that the learning comes naturally.

Tutoring Approach:

Every student is special, and so is the approach. Hence my approach to tutoring is about getting to know what the tutee needs to understand, and how does he/she learn. My own experience as a student as well as a tutor, makes me realize the importance of constant feedback in a tutoring session. Any unit of knowledge is better grasped and remembered when it is approached through multiple channels. Thus it is important for the student to get a 'feel' of what he is learning through lots of doodling on paper, diagrams, examples from everyday life and any other medium of information one can use. Encouraging the student to discover the answers through his own methodical thinking, seems to me to be the best way of making the student realize his own potentials, while being gently guided throughout the process.

We will also listen to recordings of the spoken word and we will develop writing skills. The most important thing however is for me to make sure that it is structured, fun and engaging.

Personal Description:
I am a university student currently finishing my first year at Edinburgh University where I am reading English Literature. As a student myself I have very recently been through GCSEs and A Levels and know that school teachers don't always have the time or inclination to give individual students detailed help and feedback. I like to have a relaxed but focused approach to the work - it doesn't matter if people get things wrong as long as they are willing to listen about how they could improve - and take away the impression that studying and revision always has to be boring and difficult.

Teaching Experience:

As I am a university student I have no formal experience of teaching. However, I achieved 3 A grades at A level (including English Literature) and as I am continuing to reach high standards at university level I feel that I have enough knowledge of the subject to tutor GCSE and A level students. I have led study groups in the run up to the A level exams and found them very beneficial to myself and to others. I think that I could really help somebody to further their understanding of literature, especially as I am a student myself and very aware of the main problems people have during the GCSE and A level period.

Tutoring Approach:

I really love English Literature so I hope that I can help to inspire others too. I am enthusiastic and hate just memorising notes so have always come up with more inventive and more memorable ways to learn. I am fairly relaxed and friendly but also focused on the work and making improvements in all areas of the subject.
