Teaching Experience:

I am a native Spanish speaker and experienced language teacher with recognised QTS. I have been devoted to language teaching in secondary schools in London for the last eleven years. During this time I have taught all levels (KS3/KS4/KS5) in the three languages (Spanish and German ) preparing pupils for GCSE and AS/A level examinations.
Previously I have also worked in private language schools in Spain and in the in public further education sector in Germany, teaching Spanish and German to pupils of all ages and backgrounds. I am a Cambridge graduate with over 25 years experience of teaching IT/Computing at secondary level. I am now semi-retired (since 2009), but was secondary school Head of Department in Information Technology with a reputation for commitment and dedication which has seen several of my pupils achieve the very top results in the country. Teaching Experience:

I have over 25 years experience teaching ICT/Computing very successfully at secondary level. I have had three pupils achieve "top five" status (ie top five individual pupils, not merely top 5%) in the country at GCSE level - two for ICT and one for BCS. A very large majority of my pupils at GCSE level - in ICT and Business Communication Systems - have achieved grade A or A* - this from pupils of mixed abilities. Similarly a very large majority of my pupils at A-level Computing have gained grade A or B. Of my A-level pupils who have gone on to study Computing and related subjects at university, many have gained first class honours and some have been awarded "best in year" and "best overall" prizes at UCL and Imperial College.

Tutoring Approach:

I have the ability to communicate effectively to pupils of all abilities. I make a point of ensuring that pupils always have the understanding they need, and will keep working at a problem, tackling it in different ways as necessary, until I know that they have grasped it. Having worked in the IT industry before coming to teaching I am a very capable programmer, and so am able to teach this skill from a background of experience which many teachers - at least when I first set out in teaching - did not have. I also have many years of experience of different exam systems, and have been responsible for choosing which examining board's specification to follow for GCSE and A-level, and for choosing teaching and computing resources for use in school. I have greatly enjoyed encouraging the less able pupils, as well as challenging the more able ones, to achieve more than they perhaps felt possible.

Teaching Experience:

Have spent two separate periods of two weeks volunteering at a local high school and assisting in Maths lessons. Worked with students of all ages and abilities from Years 7 through to 13, and gave presentations about my work at University.

Tutored one student between November 2012 and April 2013 with positive feedback. A reference is not yet available. I have worked in the past with several students during lessons, and also spent one hour with a student that helped life her GCSE maths grade from B to A. In addition have prepared several fully-worked and explained answers to questions posted online (links available on request).

Tutoring Approach:

I try to ensure that the student is guided through the subject as clearly as possible, with a lot of questions asked of the student when appropriate, that hopefully will allow him/her to think through the topic for themselves. I graduated from Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with a first class honours degree in composition and attained my MA in musicology with Distinction from the University of Bristol.

I am currently taking my PhD in classics at Durham University, having taken my undergraduate degree in classics at Cambridge and my MA at Durham. Also I should mention that I have GCSE and A-level qualifications in Latin and Ancient Greek and am very familiar with the structure and requirements of these exams for any student who may be taking them. My current work focuses heavily on Latin literature, as I am preparing a commentary on Martial's twelfth book of epigrams, although I am equally able to offer assistance to students of classical Greek literature.

Teaching Experience:

During my undergraduate degree I gained experience in private tuition by running a weekly class for two years. The class was based around the works of Homer and catered to a range of abilities. Although the class was primarily geared around making sure the tutees could render an accurate translation of a set passage, assistance was also provided in matters of syntax and style, metrical and literary stylistic considerations, as well as explanations of socio-historical matters.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tuition will of course largely be dependent upon the needs and ability of the respective tutee. For GCSE or A-level students, however, I think it would always be best to begin each lesson with a quick test on a point of grammar and vocabulary (as there is a prescribed list of vocabulary up to AS level), and a literary stylistic feature (e.g. identifying a chiasmus etc.), since these formal aspects essentially underlie the series of unseen exams from GCSE - A-level. After this test, each lesson should focus on a text, ideally alternating each lesson with a text that is prescribed as one of the set texts for the respective exams with an unseen passage. This approach tends to produce the best results since the unseen passages give a true indication of the student's strengths and weaknesses and help the tutor to understand more easily what aspects need to be prioritised.

Teaching Experience:

I have been an ESL teacher for 8 years. My experience has been gained predominantly in China, though i have taught at a college in the UK. I have taught a variety of nationalities and also all ages and levels. I possess both the CELTA and DELTA teaching practice qualifications. I was also an IELTS speaking and writing test examiner for two years and have passed a Cambridge certified online course in the teaching of IELTS.

Tutoring Approach:

Having lived and worked in China for many years, i am aware of the difficulty of learning a foreign language. However,i believe that with the right attitude, approach and guidance it is possible to achieve your study goals in any language.
I believe in establishing realistic and quantifiable goals when beginning tutoring for progress to be measured against. I also believe that work done in a student's own time is as important as work done in a formal classroom setting. Regular review of what has been studied is also vital.

I am a friendly, calm and patient teacher with a variety of experience that I am able to bring into my classroom by day, and in tutoring outside of school hours. I have worked with students from primary to university level, as well as tutored adult ESL students during my time living abroad.

As a secondary school teacher, I have high expectations of my students and like to push them to their full potential and keen to inspire confidence and faith in their ability. I thoroughly enjoy working with students one to one when I am able to personally tailor teaching to the learner's level at a pace that suits them. I currently work in a successful 'outstanding' school, therefore, I have a very strong English department where I am able to gain resources and skills I can bring to my tutees.

I have since taught in a wide range of schools; I left Britain to work abroad in an IB international boarding school, PTIS Chiang Mai, as a Boarding Houseparent and ESL/SEN teacher, as well as tutoring seniors completing their final IB projects. In the evenings, my responsibilities included tutoring boarders aged 9 - 19 for all subjects. After my one year internship, I taught in a British international school for two years, Varee International Chiang Mai, where I taught KS3/4 IGCSE English and SEN and was lead assessor for entrance tests for ESLstudents. I also tutored adult Thai learners English outside of my school hours as part of a language exchange to help me to develop my Thai.

Since returning to the UK, I have taught KS3/4 History and Geography, and now KS3 - KS4 English in an outstanding secondary academy in West London.
I am a flexible teacher in terms of subjects covered, but English/literature, grammar, ESL and study skills are my core areas.

Tutoring Approach:

When I first meet a new student, I conduct an initial assessment to be able to adapt my lessons to the individual needs of the student.
I have very high expectations of my students, so push when they feel like 'giving up', but practise compassion when they need support and encouragement. With confidence and patience, they can find a way.
I may on occasion set small homework tasks (if the student does not have too much with their school already) to continue learning between sessions. I will often ask a student to e-mail this to me before our next session so I can give feedback and work on mistakes for our next session, thus maximising learning in our short sessions.
I have a fun approach to my teaching as this is vital to engage young learners, as well as for my own enjoyment of sharing my passion for my subject.

I'm James, 26, and an MPhil/PhD candidate in English and Humanities at Birkbeck, University of London, with a thesis on the ethics of black radical, avant-guard and experimental poetry from selective poets.

I have a BA & MA in Creative Writing from the University of Greenwich. I received the Stephen Lawrence Poetry Prize and their Communication and Creative Arts Prize for Achievement for obtaining one the highest marks awarded to a creative writing student; and my final MA piece was published, in print, by the Berkeley Poetry Review (University of California, Berkeley) and nominated, by the BPR, for the Pushcart Poetry Prize.

Although my academic background is practice-based, my specialist areas of interest are associated with the philosophical, critical, and theoretical dynamics of the creative writing process, which is to say that the creative isn't subordinate to the reflective, but are mutual, and taken together form the grounds for rich exploration.

Teaching Experience:

I'm currently working in a primary school as an English Literacy Teaching Assistant, with a concentration of developing the reading & writing skills for KS1 and, as of September, KS2 pupils.

In the past, I have also assisted undergraduates, and selective postgraduate, with proofreading, editing, and critically evaluating their poetry.

Hello. My name is Matthew, I am currently studying for my masters in architecture at the Architectural Association. I am a graduate of Princeton University and St. Paul's School, London. I recieved top marks at Further Maths A-Level and studied Maths at a higher level while at Princeton.

Teaching Experience:

I started teaching my peers while at Princeton University and have continued tutoring since moving back to the UK. Over the past three years I have taught students at various levels and abilities; from higher level GCSE to Further Mahs A-Level, as well as US university entrance exams (SAT and ACT).

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring approach is to teach a full understanding of the material, so that the student is able to engage with material in way that means they can tackle any problem. Often in higher level exams questions will have many topics layered on top of one another, so a deep level of understanding and an ability to apply mathematical methods is required. In my experience the best way to deal with this is for the student to not only know the methods, but also understand why they are being applied. I have also found that this understanding is difficult to grasp from a conventional classroom setting.

After this process I then turn to focus on exam technique specific to the exam board the student is testing through.

Personal Description:
I enjoy teaching maths and physics and I have had previous experience of teaching maths for a tutoring organisation. I am an 18 year old student in my final year of school (RGS Newcastle), currently studying towards 4 A levels in Physics, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Economics. This combination of mathematical subjects has enabled me to develop a solid foundation of mathematics, as well as physics, which I am able to trickle down to the students I teach. However primarily I really enjoy tutoring as it provides me with an opportunity to interact and support young persons of varying ages, from primary all the way up to A level. It is fascinating to watch and support them as they develop and to push them to reach their true potential whilst refining my own skills.

Aside from teaching Mathematics and Physics, I would also be able to provide some advice about applying to universities for Economics/Maths-related courses as studying at the London School of Economics is my chosen career path for the future, and I went through the application process last year so it is very familiar. I would also be open to helping with personal statement writing and structure as part of the application process.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a class assistant for Kumon Educational UK tutoring organisation for the past 2 years which has provided me with experience in teaching children of all ages, ranging from 6 to 17 years of age. Through this experience, I have taught children first-hand and this has strongly facilitated my role as a tutor.

I have completed a Sports Leadership qualification, in which I taught children basic sports skills and learnt how to communicate and cooperate with children of different ages.

I have had experience as a Lance Corporal for the NRGS Combined Cadet Force, in which I taught lessons to juniors in military craft as well as leading juniors in military exercises.

I am a 1st degree Blackbelt Instructor for the Newcastle Blackbelt Academy and through this role I have developed a high degree of focus and discipline. I have had experience in teaching junior students as well as leading classes of people of all belt degrees, adults and children.

Tutoring Approach:

Particularly in the case of tutoring children, I have had a lot of previous experience. I am able to cater to the needs of all kinds of children and have developed a knowledge of where children are likely to make errors and how to teach both simple and complex ideas in a palpable manner so that they are able to understand and progress with their learning. I look to target specific areas in which there are strengths and weaknesses and try to iron out any difficulties, one by one, before progressing onto the next idea.

Conceptually, I would like to create a strong foundation and try to perfect their knowledge of the basics before applying it to further concepts and doing it in this way allows future, more difficult problems to fall apart and be solved more easily.

I would like student to bring their own materials, books, textbooks etc relevant to their course or stage of learning and once the individual needs of the student, relative strengths and weaknesses, exam boards have been discussed, we can develop a plan. I am also able to offer additional material such as worksheets or practice questions if required.
