Personal Description:
Hello, my name is Jodie. I am a 30 year old female currently studying a PhD in Education Policy at The University of Nottingham. I am friendly, enthusiastic, organised and I have several years of experience tutoring students with a range of abilities, both at home and in a school environment.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or require any further information.

Teaching Experience:

I currently teach on undergraduate courses in The School of Sociology at The University of Nottingham. This year I taught on the MA Philosophy of Research module and the BA Social Policy and Social Justice module.

Over the past eight years I have privately tutored numerous children and adults in English Literature, English Language, Social Sciences, and Mathematics.

For five years I have mentored students applying to Oxbridge and other Russell Group universities as part of the Oxbridge Mentoring Scheme run by Insight Education. This involved supporting students throughout the entire admissions process, including writing their personal statement, interview preparation, support with developing their analytical skills and preparation for entrance examinations.

For two years I worked as an academic tutor in an inner city comprehensive school in London. Here I tutored sixth form students in English Language, English Literature, Social Sciences, and Media Studies. A large component of this role was supporting students with essay writing skills and study skills and I am happy to support students with these skills in a general way, or in relation to a specific subject. In this role I also coordinated and ran summer school transition programmes for students moving into year seven, and tutored mathematics and English to year seven students. I am therefore comfortable teaching and supporting students from a range of different year groups.

I have tutored GCSE English to students who have been excluded from mainstream school, and students who are struggling to pass GCSE qualifications. Several of my roles have contained a motivational and mentoring aspect, and I have lots of experience of getting students organised in their approach to study.

Summary of Academic Qualifications:

A levels in English Language, English Literature and Sociology all at grade A
BA English Language and Literature (2:1) from The University of Oxford
MSC Social Policy with Distinction from The London School of Economics and Political Science
MA in Research Methods (Social Policy) with Distinction from The University of Nottingham
I am currently undertaking a funded PhD in Education Policy at The University of Nottingham

As I have degrees and post graduate qualifications in English Language, English Literature and Social Science subjects and I am happy to teach these up to degree level.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is very much dependant on the student. I believe that different people are suited to different learning styles and therefore I always take the first couple of sessions to assess how a student likes to work and what their difficulties might be.

I like to set 'homework' tasks - even if they are very short - to encourage the student to develop the skills they are learning in their own time. I am happy to mark additional work and essays and to e-mail students with any advice or feedback that they may require whilst working on a particular assignment.

Personal Description:
I am a History graduate from the University of Reading. I studied a wide range of topics and time periods during my degree, including late medieval and modern history. My specialist subject is the Tudors. I am very enthusiastic about my subject and teaching it to others.

Teaching Experience:

I have a successful track record of tutoring A level history.

Tutoring Approach:

I recognise that every student has a different approach to learning and I feel it is important to build this into a tutoring plan. I would start by identifying areas which the student needs help on and find out how they like to learn. I would then use this information, and a variety of teaching techniques, to ensure they reach their full potential. I believe learning should be fun and stimulating in order for students to progress.

Personal Description:

We have four adult children.
I have taught in state schools and independent schools in UK and at International Schools in Africa and the Middle East. During my teaching career I have been Head of Biology for twelve years.
I have always enjoyed studying Biology and I like to think that I can pass my enthusiasm for the subject on to my tutees.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in UK for 19 years:
Twelve years at the Radclyffe School in Oldham, two years at St John Rigby Sixth Form College in Wigan and nearly five years at Shebbear College in North Devon where I was Head of Biology.
I have taught at International Schools for 18 years. All the institutions followed the British Curriculum:
One year at Barewa College, Zaria in Nigeria and one year at Seepapitso Secondary School in Botswana.
Nearly six years in Kenya at Hillcrest Secondary School, Nairobi where I was also the Head of Boarding.
Three years at Muscat Private School in Oman, two years as Head of Science at the British School of Alexandria, and three years at the Modern English School in Cairo as Head of Biology.
I completed my overseas teaching as Head of Biology at Al Khor International School in Qatar where I taught for two years.

Tutoring Approach:

I have always enjoyed studying and teaching Biology which has effectively been my lifetime's work. I have extensive experience of teaching students from many different educational backgrounds and I have always been able to relate to my students and nurture an enthusiasm for the subject. As a tutor I would aim to make my lessons enjoyable but rigorous and I will always try my best to boost the confidence of my tutees. If students begin to enjoy the subject they will gain confidence and the examinations will then seem less daunting.
Whenever I tutor I will always incorporate the use of a computer into the learning process. I like to refer to animations and short video clips which greatly enhance the learning process. The on-line resources can then be used by my tutees to reinforce their understanding, as well as researching new material.

Personal Description:
Hey, I'm Vhinoth, currently a third year medical student at Edinburgh university. I'm 20 years old, and from London, where I took GCSEs and A-levels. I have a good academic record, with A*'s in 3 A-Levels and 11 A*'s at GCSE, with a strong background in maths and science.

I took these in England, so I would need a bit of prior notice to brush up on the syllabus here in Scotland, but I am very confident I can help you or your child with their subjects.

Teaching Experience:

I was involved in helping younger students struggling with their subjects whilst at school for a number of years, and helped many achieve their true potential at both GCSE and A-level. I have always had great feedback, and try to engage with my tutees as much as possible.

Tutoring Approach:

My main aim will be trying to help you or your child understand the concepts fully, then going through practice/past exam papers to help them test their knowledge and refine their exam technique.

I will try to to provide a friendly atmosphere, and encourage my tutees to ask questions and to work through problems methodically. I am always happy to be contacted at short notice and to provide feedback on completed work set by me, or by someone else. I enjoy the teaching and I'll be trying to be as helpful as possible. Please contact me if interested!

I am also available for one-on-one study days (consisting of 6 hours each) for 160.

Personal Description:
I completed my PhD in History of Art at University College London (UCL) in 2013. I have published my research in a number of academic journals and edited book collections, and I am a practicing artist, currently based in Hulme, Manchester. I am also currently a Junior Research Fellow at University College London's Institute of Advanced Studies.

I'm based in London Monday-Wednesday and can meet students within 10 miles of UCL's Bloomsbury campus (WC1E 6BT) on these days. From Thursday-Sunday I'm based in Hulme, Manchester and can travel up to 20 miles from the city centre, or meet students at my central Manchester art studio. I'm available for Skype appointments at any time.

Teaching Experience:

I am a fully trained secondary school teacher, specialising in Art & Design and Photography at KS3, KS4 & KS5. I have 9 years teaching experience, including working as a specialist Learning Support Teacher, and in Special Needs schools catering for children and young adults with a range of special educational needs, from moderate learning difficulties to profound and multiple disabilities.

I have particular expertise in studio practice (art and design), digital and darkroom photography (theory, history and practice), literacy, social and vocational skills, as well as History of Art, Anthropology and History of Medicine at undergraduate level.

I am also experienced in teaching at undergraduate level, having taught gallery-based first year History of Art courses, for University College London's History of Art Department, and on the History of Art degree programme at the University of Manchester.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a one-to-one, flexible approach to learning and teaching, which first establishes the needs and goals of the student, and then sets out clearly structured strategies for achieving these goals. These may be results-focused when preparing for exams, or aimed at developing a broader understanding of a subject area, depending upon the student's own priorities. I am happy to work with any course materials the student may provide, and I am familiar with all current GCSE and A Level syllabuses. I am able to guide both GCSE and A Level students through their studies, offering consistent, dedicated 1-2-1 tuition for the full term of the course. I can also provide practical tuition for students who are preparing their art portfolios for University submission, and can offer assistance with UCAS forms and references for students who undertake long-term A Level tuition with me.

Tutoring may take place at the student's home, or at my art studio in central Manchester, where I can provide a range of art materials and resources by prior arrangement, for more intensive practical art sessions. Please note that I can travel within 20 miles of central Manchester based on the fee structure quoted below, travelling further will incur a small additional fuel fee.

I have had recent successes with my private students, one of whom attended one-to-one sessions at my Manchester studio for 8 weeks and improved her predicted GCSE Art result of a B by two grades, achieving an A* in her final art exam. My most recent undergraduate student also attained a First overall in her History of Art degree, achieving a high score of 78 on her dissertation project, with intensive tutorial support conducted via Skype.

*Please note that due to the time-intensive nature of undergraduate level tutoring, I am only able to take on a maximum of three undergraduate tutees at any given time. Please see below for my current availability for tutoring at this level.*

I am currently tutoring ONE undergraduate student.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

University Undergraduate Level:

"I wanted a tutor to give me help and advice on my undergraduate history of art dissertation. I needed reassurance that what I was writing was okay and some one to proof read and give me their opinion on my arguments. Gemma was brilliant, she gave me the confidence that I needed to keep going with my dissertation by reassuring me that I was on the right track. She discussed my ideas with me in detail, proof read all of my work and suggested and sourced articles that I might want to have a look at. I have recently graduated from Newcastle University with a First in History of Art and Media and I know that I owe Gemma a huge thank you for the support she gave me on the way to achieving this."

Personal Description:
I am a graduate of the University of York, receiving a BA (Hons) in Linguistics. I possess experience of teaching at a range of levels from KS2 (SATs) to KS5 (A-Level), as well as having worked in an advisory role for UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service).

Teaching Experience:

During the past 5 years, I have gained experience of teaching English from KS2 (SATs) to KS5 (A-Level). In this time, I have taught numerous pupils on a one-to-one basis as well as having lectured to much larger groups of students.

Tutoring Approach:

I work full time as a tutor and run my own business - BTC Education. As such, my availability to work comprises the whole week, and I aim to fit in with the respective schedules of my students when my own schedule permits. I also work as an Educational Consultant.

I tutor from my own home and as such I do not travel. I also do not tutor via an online medium because, from my own experience, I do not believe it to be an effective method of teaching.

Personal Description:
I am a master student recently graduated from Imperial College London and study Signal Processing and Communications Engineering. I have completed my BEng in the University of Bristol major in Electronic and Communication Engineering and graduated with First Class with Honour, the top student in cohort ranking. I am a Chinese native speaker and can speak fluent English. Before study at the University of Bristol, I did IFY (International Foundation Year) course in which I have achieved A* in A-Level related courses: Math, Further Math and Physics.

I am an outgoing, patient, friendly and intelligent person. I love teaching and willing to share my knowledge and thinking with my friends and students.

Teaching Experience:

During the IFY course, I was elected as a math class representative and assisted my math teacher with correcting homework. I have been helping my classmates and friends in math, physics and engineering related courses throughout my Bachelor and Master degree. During the study at Bristol University, I voluntarily coached one of my flatmate (classmate) math and physics after lectures or before the exam period. With my assistant, he achieved 2:1 in most of the courses and even first class in some courses. During the weekend, I took the part time job teaching Chinese, including speaking and writing. With my help, my students have demonstrated a significant improvement in both writing and, especially speaking skills.

Tutoring Approach:

Math & Physics:
I have developed my math and physics teaching pattern which, I am confident, will tremendously benefit the mathematical thinking and intelligence for my students. Apart from teaching the students how to solve the mathematical and physics problems, I very much aware of the importance of the mathematical thinking skills, that most of the teachers ignore. Therefore, I will also focus on teaching my students how to think when encountering the problems, which can help them overcome the fear of math and physics or even improve their motivation and interest in math and physics. The mathematical thinking skills are the fundamental and one of the most important fact that leads to the success in math and physics, and these skills are also the secret that why many Chinese students are so successful in math and physics. Once build up the fundamental mathematical logic, these skills will embed in their thought and will benefit their further study. I am willing to share all my experience and knowledge with my students and I believe , and I am confident that my students will learn more than they can expect.

Chinese/Mandarin:
I have good experience in teaching Mandarin. I taught non-Chinese speakers the Chinese speaking and writing skills during the weekend when I was at the University of Bristol. I am very patient and friendly person, instead of being a teacher I am more likely to be a friend with my students, I always motivate my students and encourage them to speak and write. I believe this will make the teaching much more efficient, and they can get the most out of my teaching. I can make my syllabus for teaching, and I am also happy to follow your syllabus as well.
