Personal Description:
Hi there,

My name is Jean-Charles. I am a 27-year-old French male. I am currently in France but I am going to move to Glasgow for the end of September. As I passed the written part of the competitive examination to become a French teacher, I think it would be a good idea if my qualification was useful for English speaking people who want to improve their knowledge of French language and culture. I am as much attached to my culture as I am enthusiastic to share it with foreigners.
One year ago I studied French literature intensely but I first started to study philosophy. I have a baccalaurat +4 in literature and I am completing my Master of philosophy for September (baccalaurat +5).
I come from a family of six children. I am used to be with people and very open-minded. Moreover, to fund my studies, I have done a lot of different jobs like building worker, postman, seller, waiter, chef, child-sitter with homework help and French tutor . I love discover new things, new people. I adapt myself easily.
This past year I lived six months in the Greater Manchester, working as a chef in a restaurant and as a French tutor (letter of recommendation available). I would like to go on this adventure in foreign countries, beginning with Scotland, a country and a people I am very interested to discover.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught French language -grammar and literature- to a teaching-retired-student from October 2009 (letter of recommendation available) to March 2010, when I had to go back to France to achieve my Master in Philosophy. In 2009 I have passed the written part of the competitive examination to become a French teacher. This means I am close to be a French teacher for French people. Besides, my English is nearly fluent. I have studied English for 15 years. Thus I can teach French to English people from primary school to University.
I am also giving lessons in French to a 16-year-old girl in Strasbourg since June.

Tutoring Approach:

I have helped children between 6 and 10 for their homework during two tears. I tried as far as possible to make them smile and laugh when it was too hard for them, because it was the best way to make them learn and enjoy learning.
In a general way, tutoring children or teenagers requires the understanding, the stability and the patience a child or a teenager needs.
And I would say to adults that they could choose any point of grammar and any period of French literature from Rabelais to Sartre and from Molire to Baudelaire because I studied French grammar and literature in general.
What I have done with the mature-student I was teaching to, was first helping him on his works for university (on "Le symbolisme"), then doing some translation from English to French (Julian Barnes, "Flaubert's parrot" as well as newspapers articles), and giving him oral examinations (on Baudelaire, Rimbaud and Mallarm as well as on Manchester United) because he is going to France for a year and he needs to speak a lot. He was really happy with our work and I was very sad to have to go back in France because we really had a great time.

Personal Description:
A Masters student in Finance and Management in Loughborough University with an excellent track of record in academic areas. I have had 2 years of working experience with British American Tobacco as a Marketing Executive and had been a part-time journalist for The New Strait Times Malaysia. My previous degree is in Journalism and Communication from Monash University Australia.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a tutor for 7 months from March-September with Churchill College in New Malden, London. I have been teaching A Levels International Business, Economics and reading and writing skills especially for international students who wants to improve on their essay and speaking skills.

Tutoring Approach:

I use mainly student's text book as a guide and additional notes from the marker's scheme. Before starting any class i would brief the student through the structure of the exam and what is important for each section of the exam. Unless the student requests a specific area to concentrate on i usually run though the whole syllabus and attempt past year papers together with the student at the end of each chapter. This is to guide students to answer questions in terms of structure, points and arguments, and conclusion.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly, outgoing postgraduate student at the University of Glasgow. I am a native German speaker, but have studied in Paris (2001/2002, France) and Glasgow (2002/present). My subject specialisations cover a broad range of topics; from human geography to business and management, from politics to international relations and modern history. Furthermore, being bi-national German and French, I am fluent in both languages, as well as in English.

Teaching Experience:

One year of experience, mostly with university students.

Tutoring Approach:

I am mostly adept in conversational classes when it comes to languages. If you want to freshen up your German or French, you're at the right address. I frequently talk to my family abroad and am up to date on the latest language developments. I can equally help students prepare for exams and tests (written and oral), as well as with essays, presentations, reports and other work. My work as a French/English/German translator for over 7 years has further enhanced my language experience.

In terms of Geography, Business and Politics/International Relations, I studied Geography, Politics and Economics in Paris (Distinction) and have done my undergraduate (joint honours with Business and Management, 2.1) as well as as a postgraduate in Human Geography with Merit at the University of Glasgow. I am furthermore currently very successfully doing a Master of Letters in War Studies, which requires political, organisational and strategic analysis of 19th and 20th century history. I can help anyone that is struggling with anything across the board regarding analyses of any kind, be they human, historical, geopolitical, military, social and many more, or would simply like to know more about any of them.

However, my particular strong point lies in improving anyone's writing skills, especially to an academic standard. I frequently take students from lower C's and D's to upper B's or even A's by helping them to understand, learn and apply the essentials of structuring written work. This does not require an in-depth knowledge of any particular subject, within which the respective work is to be submitted (although I do pick up on inconsistencies in the content), as it aims at heightening awareness of the basic building blocks of a good report/essay/dissertation, which form the framework within which a solid analysis of any topic can take place.

I am a firm believer in 'learning by doing', getting students of all ages to gain pride and satisfaction from their work. Hence, I put great emphasis on not just making people aware of the different approaches to any given problem/topic/question, but actively teach them how to go about solving them. This has proved to be very successful.

Personal Description:
I am a young and enthusiastic artiste, with professional experience as an actor, producer and director. I have worked in various genres ranging including comedy, tragedy, musical and serious drama. As a practitioner I enjoy working with new and contemporary pieces but am equally happy working with more classical (including shakespearean) texts.

Teaching Experience:

As well as being a working practitioner, I have worked as a group leader in thriving west yorkshire theatre school, working with chidren aged from four to sixteen. In this capacity I worked on a variety of projects that allowed the pupils to develop skills in improvisation, text analysis and vocal and character work. Whilst developing these skills was central to the aims of the theatre school, it's primary objective was to build the confidence and independence of its pupils with an aim to aiding them in their everyday life, while enabling them to persue their acting ambitions as they desired.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to encourage the pupil to build upon their existing skills and talents; this allows the pupil to increase their confidence which is crucial to them developing their abilities. I am happy to work with the pupil on general exercises or on more specific audition pieces. My approach to these is to help the pupil break down the text into more smaller sections in order to make the process of creating a character easier.

Personal Description:
I graduated from Cambridge University with a 2:1 in Pharmacology, and am now studying at Imperial College London for a Master's Degree by Research in Cancer Biology. I enjoy sport and reading.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching GCSE Science and Maths, and A-Level Biology on a one-to-one basis. I also hold a black belt in Shotokan karate and have gained teaching experience through this.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to explain a principle with a student first, checking that they understand at various points and emphasising that they should stop and ask questions at any point. I then ask the student to explain, from the beginning, whatever the area may have been, in order to further confirm understanding. I also work through exam and textbook questions with the student, offering hints and answers as and when necessary.

I am a recent 1st class music graduate from Oxford University, living in the Southsea area.

I play the clarinet and piano, as well as having studied music theory, history and various other aspects of music to a very high level.

I am happy to tutor school-age pupils to help with their classroom work, GCSEs and A-Levels, and also teach music theory in preparation for ABRSM examinations. I am also a teacher of clarinet for all ages, up to grade 8 standard.

I prefer to first help pupils work through problems with their existing school work, in order to patch up any difficulties that they are currently having, then to additionally teach them extra things in order to keep their interest in the subject.

Personal Description:
I am a recent language graduate from the university of Hull. I obtained a high 2:1 at the end of my course and therefore wish to pursue my language talent even further. In September I will attend the University of Bradford to do a Masters degree in Interpreting and Translation (French, Spanish and English)

Teaching Experience:

As part of my degree I spent one year in Quebec, Canada. I taught English as a second language to French student between the ages of 11 and 18.

I have also taught privately in Spain. Again, these classes were aimed at the Spanish natives, teaching them English.

Finally, I have given revision classes prior to exams in French and Spanish.

Tutoring Approach:

I am 23 years old and therefore have a good connection with the younger generation. I believe that languages are a way of the future and have had a passion for languages all of my life. I began to learn my second language at the age of 6 and have not stopped wanting to learn more languages and spread the passion I have for them to others. I also am a firm believer that to learn a language is not only to learn the vocabulary and grammar, but to learn their culture and history as well. This is vital if the student is studying languages at A-level and beyond.

Personal Description:
I am a 20 year old medical student at Brighton And Sussex Medical School, currently in my first year of study. I am a dedicated sportsman, especially keen on football and I also enjoy rowing. I took a gap year after college to volunteer with people with a range of disabilities and care for them. I am also extremely independent as I have lived alone for the last 4 years.

Teaching Experience:

Despite having no teaching experience, I believe working with people with disabilities, as mentioned above, has allowed me to develop the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of people. It has taught me be patient and allowed me to develop the ability to understand other perspectives, which i believe can be important when trying to tutor.

Tutoring Approach:

During the first year of my medical study I have learned the different ways in which information is processed in the brain and the way memory works. This I feel, is invaluable knowledge when tutoring and therefore my approaches to tutoring would center around these principles. It is also important when tutoring to have objectives to allow us to work towards as a team and allows a sense of purpose and achievement when they are reached. The use of different ways to explain concepts allows the tutee to relate this concept to real life and furthers understanding and i feel, having only recently studied these subjects, I am able to use the same explanations me and those around me were taught with, and apply them to the tutee. The 'teach me' method, which is when the tutee teaches me a concept has also been shown to be very effective in consolidating understanding. Finally Enthusiasm is an important factor when tutoring, and an enthusiastic tutor is more likely to stimulate the tutee to learn. I believe I have this enthusiasm and ability to stimulate the tutee.
