I studied broadcasting while I was in China and I worked as a presenter part-time for a radio station, as such My Chinese pronunciation is very clear and standard. I also studied some Japanese, which gave me a grasp of learning and developing a new language.

I got first class in the National Standard Chinese Level Qualification which shows I have near perfect pronunciation. Pronunciation is very important in Chinese and thus it is vital that the person who is teaching you has good pronunciation or you will pick up their mistakes too.

Teaching Experience:

When I was in China, I tutored some primary school aged students English to earn extra income. This has given me a base in teaching languages and so I have a good understanding of the differences in the languages such as grammar, word composition, and the etiquette.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is very much tailored to the students needs.
For short-time learners, I will focus on basic common expressions, useful tourists sayings and culture differences. For long-time learners I will work on everything from grammar to hand writing to allow the student to communicate naturally in in Chinese.

I graduated from the University of Oxford in 2011 with a degree in Experimental Psychology, and received a Masters in 2015. I have been tutoring for more than 5 years, and run a company focused on inspiring students to reach their potential through study techniques based on neuroscientific evidence. This involves delivering interactive workshops for students in schools and colleges across London.

I love teaching and thrive on the satisfaction of helping a student reach their goal; I welcome students of all abilities, motivation levels and confidence levels. What sets me apart from most is that as well as tutoring my students, I take the role of a mentor, to motivate, encourage and guide them towards success. My students also benefit from my knowledge of study skill techniques, which I integrate into my teaching to maximise students' memory retention.

Teaching Experience:

Tutoring Approach:

My first step is always to assess exactly where my student is at so that I can plan the content for sessions accordingly and make sure that they get the best out of each lesson. If there are any gaps in the foundations of their knowledge we can then attack these head on. My approach is thus very organised and tailored to the specific needs of the student, with small goals set per session alongside a long term goal to work towards. I always ensure that my lessons are engaging, and work towards building a good relationship with my students, encouraging them to ask questions without any hesitation. I adapt my approach depending on my students' learning style as I feel this is the key to successful teaching.

At GCSE and A Level, my aim is always to make sure that students are completely familiar with the subject specification and assessment objectives as this dictates exactly where they can pick up most marks. Completing as many past papers as possible is also a step in the right direction, alongside completing assignments set by myself. I always give very detailed feedback so that my students know exactly where they can improve, and how to apply it to their work going forward.

My approach for students studying Psychology at degree level depends on what is required. Most students require guidance with essays, reports, dissertations and write ups; I usually go through the assignment with the student giving valuable, detailed feedback on what can be improved and exactly how they can go about doing so. This can involve several redrafts until the work has been completed to the students' full potential.

I enjoy teaching and deem it a privilege to have a share in helping others reach their aspirations.

Teaching Experience:

Between 1992 & 2010 I lived and taught in Hong Kong to a variety of students from Chinese medium of instruction (CMI), English medium of instruction (EMI) and International schools to help them develop the four English language skills. Assistance was given to help students progress towards their HKCEE (GCSE equivalent)and `A` levels, and in recent years the IB diploma, IGCSE's, and HKDSE.

Topics used in the lessons cover many of disciplines in the school curriculum, including, History, Geography, Economics, Biology, English Literature. Further guidance was given to help students prepare for exams, such as, Cambridge`s KET and PET; the SAT; and IELTS exams and common apps for HE.

In the past six years I have been tutoring students in the UK to prepare them for the 11+ and 13+ entrance exams; teaching students at KS3, GCSE and A levels. Additionally, I am currently helping students with their dissertations for their chosen degrees, and proofreading BA, MA, and PHD papers prior to submission.

Furthermore, for the past two years, I have been involved in intervention teaching, which involves identifying learning styles and other factors that inhibit a student`s progress, and then devise strategies to engage the student in learning, to identify and then support their current learning needs.

I take a CLIL approach to teaching, which means I teach English using the content and language taken from the student`s curriculum. My experience also qualifies me to teach English literature, History, biology and geography to GCSE level.

I am committed to providing students with assistance to achieve the grades they need by patiently tutoring each student according to their learning style. I trust that my student-centred approach is effective in this area. My one-to-one tuition produces noticeable improvements in student confidence, attainment and ambition.

Personal Description:
I am a Chartered Psychologist and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, with a Master's degree in Research Psychology (cum laude), a research Doctorate from the University of Oxford, and an ongoing second doctorate in Existential Psychotherapy. I also have a special Chartership with the British Psychological Society in the Division of Academics, Researchers and Teachers of Psychology. During my working life, I have written or contributed to a number of peer reviewed publications in the the fields of critical theory, research methods, psychology and development studies.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught psychology, social theory, philosophy and research methods at a number of universities, including Cambridge and Oxford. This formal teaching ranged from undergraduate to masters level, and even included some thesis supervision. In addition, I have experience of training outside of the academic context, including the military, government, and corporate contexts.

Tutoring Approach:

I see learning as more than just memorising knowledge, or getting through an exam. As a result, I prefer to work with people who want to gain a deeper understanding of issues, and who find meaning in locating knowledge in a broader framework of wellbeing.
