Personal Description:
I am a graduate in Politics, English and German with an International House qualification to teach English as a foreign language to adults.

Since 2001 I have been engaged on a university research and publishing project, based in London and Cambridge, that charts the reception of British and Irish authors in Europe, from Francis Bacon to James Joyce.

A significant part of my professional role involves editing and proof-reading academic texts, and I'm happy to undertake this for tutees.

I am also a freelance researcher, writer and curator of exhibitions on contemporary social and political cartoons, such as 'Coping with the Relations', commissioned by the Goethe-Institut and British Council as an international touring exhibition. Amongst other publications I co-authored the book *Deutschland und seine Nachbarn* in 2000 as a resource for political education in German schools.

I am an enthusiastic European with a keen interest in global affairs.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring students in English, Politics and German for many years, as well as working as a business language trainer in companies across London.

Previously I taught English, German and Politics in England (GCSE and A-level), and English as a foreign language at all levels in grammar schools in Austria and Germany. I also taught English as a foreign language to trainee German teachers of English and for Academic & Special Purposes (law, business studies, social sciences) as well as British cultural studies at the University of Osnabruck, Germany, for 8 years.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe patience, appropriate pace and empathetic attention to an individual's learning needs are essential for anyone helping others to understand often complex ideas and concepts. I also believe successful learning results from both the learner's and teacher's motivation, enthusiasm and interest in the subject. These are principles that inform my role as a tutor.

I much prefer one-to-one or small-group tutoring, particularly where if a foreign language is involved. I believe the intensity of experience such interaction provides is the next best thing to direct engagement with a foreign language in the context in which it is naturally spoken. This is borne out by my own experience as a foreign-language learner.

Personal Description:
I am an independent tutor with a strong scientific background and have lived in England since Aug 1965. Most of my school and college education took place in Dudley (West Midlands) and I studied Biochemistry, at Leeds University (1975-8). I am married and have lived in Cheshire since Dec 1978. We have a son and a daughter; both graduated from Universities in Manchester. Following my voluntary redundancy from AstraZeneca, (Jun 2008), I am now a self-employed Tutor / Consultant. In addition, I am able to speak additional languages (Punjabi; studied up to GCE A-level and Hindi) and prepared to travel up to 5 miles. I have been tutoring Yr 7 - 13 students, in Maths and all Science subjects, since Oct 2008. In addition, I have prepared students from Yr 6, for the 11+ exams; frequently used by private schools, as entrance exams. Testimonials / References (from Students and Parents) are available, on request.

Teaching Experience:

During my long service in the Pharma industry (~30 years), I have run many short courses and workshops. During 2005/6, I mentored a pupil (Year 10/11) at St. Peter's High School, Longsight, organised by the University of Manchester. In the past, I have also been responsible for organising and running the weekly classes at the Sikh Temple (Gurdwara), for teaching youngsters the Sikh way of life & Punjabi culture, in helping to improve their knowledge and integration into the Western Society over a period of ten years.

Tutoring Approach:

I can provide tuition to individual students (or small groups) in the form of friendly, relaxed lessons. Teaching sessions are always customised to meet the specific requirement of the students. Generally, I enjoy teaching and considered to have a caring approach. I use a combination of computer and 'white board' based approach, for creating informal interactive / discussion type sessions, with some form of regular tests and re-cap sessions. Closer to the exams, the lessons are much more focused on using past papers covering a wide range of questions, to enable the students increase their confidence in preparation for the examinations.

Personal Description:
My name is Laura and I am a native French teacher from Harrow, North London. I relished learning languages at school because I was taught by inspiring teachers and that is why I decided to make it my profession. I am very hard working, never afraid of a challenge and always happy to be teaching. Moreover I am organised, punctual and reliable and very enthusiastic with a fun and approachable manner. As a result, I feel that I have an ability to push my students to reach beyond their boundaries as studying no longer becomes a chore.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching French for over 25 years to all ages and all academic levels. Throughout my time as a teacher, I have worked and still do for several nurseries schools, set up my own business offering after school clubs, had a great deal of private lessons from primary school children to GCSE and A Level students and most recently have started conversation lessons for adults.

Tutoring Approach:

From my years of experience, I can see how general teaching in schools doesn't always work, as every child is different. This is why I offer a bespoke service to cater to the child's needs. This includes adapting what they enjoy to the learning process, which allows them a greater comprehension of the language. Students only learn if they are engaged in what they are doing. I have a positive attitude to teaching and give a great deal of encouragement.

I find it a real joy watching my students improve and eventually flourish in a subject they were struggling with at the beginning.

Personal Description:
I am a well published Stem Cell Scientist at Imperial College London, currently working on regenerative medicine-based solutions for Osteoarthritis. I have over 10 years of experience in the field of biomedical research, biology and chemistry teaching and scientific writing. I have been fascinated with the way human mind works and learn - having tried several teaching techniques with my students here at Imperial College, I am confident that students under my guidance and their hard work usually stay within top 5% of the class.

Teaching Experience:

I have had a number of MSc and MRes students in the past and have had primary, secondary, GCSE and A-level, and college teaching experience in the past. Currently I am supervising a number of GCSEs, A-levels, undergraduates and masters students and lab-based research projects / theses.

Tutoring Approach:

Every student has his / her positives and negatives - I first analyse them and then slowly work on their negative points (with a good push to their confidence levels). Additionally, I believe for understanding any science subject (biology, chemistry or physics), learning fundamentals is extremely important for students to further understand complexity of life (more important if they choose to do biology / biomedical science / medicine / life science). So, my approach has always been understanding things more analytically.

Personal Description:
I am an actor currently completing an MA at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and an arts enthusiast with incisive critical engagement skills and 5 years private tuition experience. I'm able to draw from a wide range of critical theories and approaches when analysing arts and performance related texts. A big fan of film, theatre, visual art, music, literature, football and comedy.

Teaching Experience:

I graduated from Royal Holloway in 2011 with the highest degree grade of the graduate year. I was approached by many of my co-students to advise them on essays and creative work and was employed by the Drama department to run workshops for prospective students. I'm now a professional theatre-maker and freelance drama practitioner having led workshops with a wide spectrum of people from ages 10 up to 75 years old.

Testimonial from Ina:

"Thank you for all your help with my Film Studies, I ended up getting an A* and also an A* in Media Studies. so I got my place at the University of Exeter to study Management with Marketing, thanks a lot, I couldn't have done it without you!"

Testimonial from Nadia:

"Dean's tuition was fantastic! He is patient but he still pushed me to do my best. I am much more confident writing about drama and theatre. Dean made sure I understood everything we talked about which meant I didn't forget it in my exam and I ended up getting an A!"

Tutoring Approach:

I like to spread a love and enthusiasm for arts and humanities subjects with an emphasis on the potential for personal as well as academic development. I am an adaptive tutor skilled at relating the work to the student's own experiences, ensuring they establish their own academically applicable opinions and approaches. I'm a meticulous problem solver and am able to pinpoint areas that need attention, particularly in essay and presentation work. I'm a natural entertainer but always maintain focus on the task at hand, offering insightful, productive and engaging tuition sessions to my students.

Personal Description:
Hi there!

My name's Imdad, and I'm currently a Ph.D. student at Trinity College, Cambridge, studying Quantum Computing (Theoretical Physics). I completed my undergraduate degree also in Cambridge in 2012, gaining a First.

Since I was young, I've been fascinated by physics and maths, and I'd love to share my enthusiasm for those subjects with everyone!

Music is another big passion of mine, and I play quite a few instruments - French Horn, Piano, Recorder, Violin, Trumpet, mostly to Grade 8 level. In addition, I'm happy to teach Music Theory up to Grade 8 level. Music has been my biggest extra-curricular activity during my study at university, and I'm currently the President of the Cambridge University Symphony Orchestra.

I love computers and programming - I've been writing apps for smartphones! I've developed several websites.

I'm well known for the way I teach and get difficult ideas across to people - if you're stuck on Physics or Maths, you won't be much longer!

Teaching Experience:

I've been teaching for many years, both tutoring and teaching in classes. I have tutored students for 11+ exams, helped with GCSE and A Level work, and I currently have students whom I supervise for Mathematics and Physics university courses.

Tutoring Approach:

I pride myself on my ability to explain things in ways that help students grasp the underlying principles of the subject. In my experience, if these basics are understood, a good intuition for the rest of the subject develops very quickly and naturally. I find that GCSEs and A Levels focus much too strongly on teaching a few methods - and a lot of the time, the students find they have no true understanding of the subject, and I do my best to remedy this.

Personal Description:
Hi, I'm Faiz! I am an ex Medical Student, based in Coventry, having previously studied at the University of Leicester. I recently gained admission to Oxford University to read Computer Science, demonstrating mathematical prowess and, more importantly, a clarity of thought that greatly lends itself to the teaching of maths and sciences.

I can also help with interview skills, particularly for those applying to Medicine or Oxbridge.

Alongside my extensive tutoring experience, I also have recent experience of GCSEs and A-Levels, and can therefore relate to pupils and teach at an appropriate level using methods that are easy to understand.

I have a record of academic excellence, including 9 A*s & 1 A at GCSE, and A*A*A*A* at A-Level. I have also achieved an A at AS Computing and AS Further Maths, but AS's can't be displayed on this site.

***I can deliver tuition in your home for an additional fee of up to £7.50 (regardless of number of hours)***

Teaching Experience:

Currently, I tutor groups of students in A Level Maths and GCSE Maths & Sciences.

I am also experienced in delivering one to one tuition, and currently have pupils that I am tutoring on a one to one basis.

Tutoring Approach:

Working with the student, I can help to overcome any obstacles they may encounter within their curriculum, and allow them to reach their potential.

In particular, I can break down difficult concepts to make them easy to understand for the student.

I can also help the student with developing excellent study skills, which will greatly benefit them far beyond their school years.

Hi! My name is Jślia. I am a 22 year old girl from Barcelona studying a MSc in Economics at the University of Surrey. I am a bit of a bookworm too, therefore I can help with languages as well as with economics or anything related to the subject - from Maths to Sustainability subjects. I am really patient and I've been a personal tutor for many years, so I know how to listen to my students and try to make them have a good time whilst learning.

Teaching Experience:

I've been tutoring since the age of 16 to different year students - from a class of 10 year olds to university and adult students at the university language school. I've done personal tutoring mainly for chemistry, physics, maths and languages, so I have a wide range of experience in different subjects and teaching environments.

Tutoring Approach:

Depending on the aim of the student we can try different approaches: for the younger kids, it is better to do dynamic classes with some games in order to make sure they learn but have a good time as well. Older students should have a more test oriented class, following their school textbook and trying to go through all the exercises we can. Last, students at university level or adult students have more of a say in how they want to be thaught, maybe they can read for themselves and then we discuss on the topics they want and I can provide them with articles, books and case studies.

Personal Description:
I am currently a student at the University of Birmingham studying a Materials Engineering Masters Degree. I have 5 A's and 5 A*'s at GCSE; A*'s at in all Sciences (Chemistry and Physics) and also Maths. I hold A-levels in Maths, Physics and Chemistry. I can teach and help with any of these. I am very keen and young but can still provide a quality service (thanks to working in the catering industry).

Teaching Experience:

I have no formal teaching experience but I have tutored my sister at GCSE (where she obtained A's in Maths, Chemistry and Physics with my help) and I am currently helping her with AS/A-Level Maths.
I have helped coursemates on my course with maths and physics (as some have transferred and never done this before).

Tutoring Approach:

I am laid back but very keen and only want the best for my tutee's. If something is not understood I will commit to revisiting it and going over it again and again for them until it all makes sense. I can move at a slow or fast pace and am very adaptable to the tutee's needs and requirements.

TIMES WILL BE DECIDED EACH WEEK - AVAILABILITY VARYS
