Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified Modern Foreign Languages and EFL teacher, who has lived and worked in Spain, Germany and England. I enjoy meeting people of other nationalities and exchanging ideas about different cultures and experiences.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as an EFL teacher since 1994 - teaching both abroad and in England to multi-lingual and monolingual classes. In Spain I taught children from 5 years old and businessmen in company, while in England I taught children from 12 years old at residential summer schools. I have also had some experience in teaching both German and Spanish at secondary schools (as a supply teacher).

I am currently teaching EFL and ESOL at an FE college in Nottingham. I teach general English but also prepare students for IELTS and ESOL Skills for Life examinations. In addition I taught EAP (Academic English) at Nottingham Trent University last summer.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer small group teaching which allows students to interact with each other but can also teach on a one-to-one basis. I believe in student centred, active, task based learning.

Personal Description:
I am a 22 year old Architecture student at the University of Brighton. I was previously enrolled as a Humanities student at Sussex University but decided to change to a more creative and vocational course. I have been consistently teaching children and working as a youth worker since the age of 13 and recently spent a year working as a teaching assistant prior to starting my current degree. I am a patient, friendly, outgoing person with a passion for teaching and find I relate very well to children of all ages. I have experience working with those with special needs as well as children on the autistic spectrum. I am flexible in the subjects that I am willing and able to teach, so please don't hesitate to enquire as to other topics not listed in my profile. I also have an Enhanced CRB check from 2008.

Teaching Experience:

Several months employment as a teaching assistant at Brighton Montessori, working one on one with a five year old autistic boy. My role also involved teaching other children in the class, who ranged from 3 to 6 years old.

A year of employment as a Play Worker at Fairlight After School Club working with children between the ages of 4 and 14. I was responsible for dozens of children at a time in a very active environment. In this job I built close relationships with many children who often called on me for support with personal and educational issues.

Four years part time paid work as a teacher at North Western Reform Synagogue (Alyth Gardens London NW11). I was employed from September 2001 until July 2005, at first as an assistant to a class of 7-12 year old children, however in the last year of my employment I co-taught a class of 12-13 year olds. This role required the teaching of reading and writing as well as history and basic foreign language skills.

I spent 5 summers volunteering as a summer camp leader with RSY-Netzer, (The Sternberg Centre, 80 East End Rd). I have held a Loco Parentus status over a hundred or so children (10-14 years old) within a small team of youth leaders. I was responsible for the organisation and running of activities as well as a large degree of teaching in many different subject areas. I also ran many training courses for younger youth leaders.

Tutoring Approach:

I have always found myself able to build a fun and trusting relationship with children and young people, something which is integral to my approach to teaching. I believe that in order to help a child reach their full potential it is important to instill confidence in their ability; to build from their strengths in order to overcome challenging areas. As I am still quite young myself I find that children find me easy to talk to and are willing to engage in a productive and gratifying relationship. I feel it is important to discuss how to improve problem areas with the child as well as with the parents. Crucially, I feel that every child must be responded to as an individual and that one must be flexible in one's approach to tuition in order to cater to the needs of every child.

Personal Description:
Hi, my name is Fenella. I am currently studying in the first year of the postgraduate Medicine degree at the University of Warwick, which I really enjoy. I have also studied at the University of Birmingham, where I gained a First Class (hons) BSc in Human Biology. I really enjoy both studying and teaching sciences, and have a great deal of enthusiasm for my subject.

Teaching Experience:

Whilst I have no formal teaching qualifications, I have a great deal of experience which I feel makes me a good tutor. I particpated in mentoring schemes whilst in sixth form, helping to teach Biology to younger students. I have also helped the children of family friends with their schoolwork, and have informally 'tutored' my younger sister through a number of her exams. In addition, I have spent time teaching English in Thailand to 11-13yr olds. Whilst this was not directly related to Science, it gave me invaluable experience in planning and carrying out lessons.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel that if students enjoy their studies, then the subject becomes instantly more memorable. Therefore, I try to make sure that my tuition is enjoyable for the student. By relating sciences to everyday life, I feel that they become easier to understand and remember. I like to build up a strong relationship with the student, so that I know where their strengths and weaknesses lie and how I can work with these to ensure that my students learn as much as possible. I also feel that the importance of relevant exam practice cannot be underestimated, therefore I like to work through exam questions with my students and help to refine their exam technique.

Personal Description:
I am currently an undergraduate at Trinity College, Oxford University, studying in my 2nd year of a 4 year Chemistry degree. I am a scholar, having been awarded a distinction in my first year Preliminary Examinations.

I attended Winstanley College until 2008 where I gained A-Levels in Chemistry, Physics, Maths and Further Maths, along with an AS in Biology, all at Grade A.
I have a very good understanding of how the A-Level examinations work, and how to approach them in order to get best results.

I attended St. John Fisher High School Wigan until 2006 where I gained 10 GCSEs at grade A*, including Maths and Double Award Science.

My hobbies and interests include Rowing for my College Boat Club, cycling and playing guitar. I have held positions of responsibility as Men's Welfare Rep for Trinity College, and Deputy Head Boy at my high school. I have recently been elected Boat Club Treasurer for the academic year 2010-11.

Teaching Experience:

Oxford University is unique in its system of tutorials, and I have spent the last two years attending one on one tutorials weekly with Chemistry tutors who are top in their field. From this I have gained valuable insight into how to conduct successful tutorials myself.
I have a younger brother who I have helped through his GCSEs and A-Levels.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the most important thing is to encourage self confidence in a student, the worst thing possible is to scare the student away from the subject so that they are afraid to try to grasp any new ideas. A genuine interest in the subject will always lead to success.
The way I would achieve this is to create a relaxed, friendly environment from the off and ensure that the tutorial is led by the student with only guidance from myself, so that the student feels a sense of achievement and confidence in their abilities by the end of the tutorial.
I would set the student realistic goals, and eventuall encourage the student to set these goals themselves and ensure that the student has achieved their goal by the end of the tutorial.
In Science and Maths, tackling problems is essential in order to gain lasting understanding, I would ask the student to attempt to answer problems following the tutorial to help gauge progress.
