I trained as an actor at Arts Educational schools and have twenty five years experience working as an actor, director and writer. For ten years I worked as an audio director, directing many of the UK's leading actors in recordings of 150 audio books, poetry collections and drama. As a writer I have seen my plays produced in repertory theatre and by small touring companies and have also written for TV's 'The Bill'. I now work regularly as a corporate role-play actor, often using improvisation. I enjoy the range and variety of my work and believe this brings a greater depth of understanding and knowledge to my teaching. I teach young adults aged 16 and over and adults of any age.

Teaching Experience:

I began my career as an actor-teacher, working for small theatre companies touring schools, often leading drama workshops on educational themes. I was also Assistant Lecturer in Contemporary Theatre at the London branch of Boston University, teaching American young adults. During the IFY course, I was elected as a math class representative and assisted my math teacher with correcting homework. I have developed my math and physics teaching pattern which, I am confident, will tremendously benefit the mathematical thinking and intelligence for my students. Apart from teaching the students how to solve the mathematical and physics problems, I very much aware of the importance of the mathematical thinking skills, that most of the teachers ignore. Therefore, I will also focus on teaching my students how to think when encountering the problems, which can help them overcome the fear of math and physics or even improve their motivation and interest in math and physics. The mathematical thinking skills are the fundamental and one of the most important fact that leads to the success in math and physics, and these skills are also the secret that why many Chinese students are so successful in math and physics. Once build up the fundamental mathematical logic, these skills will embed in their thought and will benefit their further study. I am willing to share all my experience and knowledge with my students and I believe , and I am confident that my students will learn more than they can expect.

Chinese/Mandarin:
I have good experience in teaching Mandarin. I taught non-Chinese speakers the Chinese speaking and writing skills during the weekend when I was at the University of Bristol. I am very patient and friendly person, instead of being a teacher I am more likely to be a friend with my students, I always motivate my students and encourage them to speak and write. I am a creative artist, actor and educator, inspired by performance art in all its forms. I am fortunate to work doing what I love. My current artistic interests include puppetry and performance, theatre in non-traditional spaces, and working as a freelance dramaturg to help smaller scale theatre companies realise their artistic aims and consolidate their working practices.

I attended a Grammar School, RGS Worcester, a top school with high expectations. I excelled in this environment, always achieving the best academic results. I am now, as I was then, a high achiever.

I am a keen writer and maker of puppets, I find nothing more relaxing than long immersive forays into the imagination.

I am a keen martial artist, stage fighter, and fencer. I'm a big lover of all things outdoors, the wilder, the better.

As an avid reader I am particularly drawn to heroic fantasy and sprawling worlds, beguiling first person narratives, comparative religious and spiritual studies, psychology, and history.

Teaching Experience:

My first degree from The University of Bristol nudged me in the direction of teaching. I worked for 6 years as a secondary school teacher, delivering Drama and English lessons, including GCSE and A level, from year 7- year 13. I offered extra-curricular tutorials to students to help them achieve their desired results. This included university entrance master classes.

During my tenure at the second school I worked at my lessons were recorded by Edexcel Examination Board as an exemplar of excellent practice.

As a teacher my services were sought by 'feeder' primary schools and I started leading workshops at primary level. While doing this I became aware of the need for more educational provision in non-formal settings. I eventually went part-time at schools, and began working with, and for, local councils to provide literacy workshops for young people who felt disenfranchised by traditional educational settings. My work with Redditch Borough Council as Outreach officer earned me an 'Outstanding personal Achievement Award'.

Since turning my attention to acting I have maintained strong links with my educational roots, I still work in schools, community centres, universities, as tutor, facilitator and lecturer. I will always think of myself as an educator, my most satisfying professional moments involve inspiring others, and these moments always occur when teaching and tutoring.

I still work extensively as an educator: as tutor, lecturer and workshop facilitator, both in formal and non-formal settings, teaching young people of all ages from primary to university level.

I have a personable and gentle teaching style, tempered by profound understanding of examination board requirements. Moreover, my many years working as an arts educator has entailed the need to develop a flexible range of teaching strategies correspondent to the varying learning preferences of my students. Personal Description:
I love learning, but I haven't always felt that way. I currently read one book a week, while not so long ago as a student I truly hated reading. I had a tough time with developing relevant skills, procrastination and a very limited mindset while studying for my A Levels. This resulted in many set backs, high stress and low motivation. However, I learned something that has completely transformed my life in every way. I am determined to share this with others, which why I love working with young people.

While attempting to find a solution to my 'student problems' I developed a fascination with the human brain. I read extensively on the topics of psychology, neuroscience and learning. The knowledge and tools that I have discovered has helped me to overcome many issues that most students face daily. For this reason I have spent the last 5 years mentoring and coaching students of various ages, to empower them and motivate them to love learning as much as I do.

I am interested in politics, mental health, psychology, nutrition, metaphysics and many more.

My hobbies are yoga, meditation, Thai Chi and I also volunteer as a Mentor to a young adult.

Teaching Experience:

In my current role as an Academic Learning Coach at a sixth form college I design and teach study skills workshops, lessons and support students one to one. With over 2 years spent researching how the brain learns, I teach using evidence based methods and share all my knowledge about the brain with the students. I have taught over 800 students in the last year and worked with 100 students one to one.

As a Student Ambassador at the University of Sheffield I have over 2 years of experience teaching study skills workshops.

I have one year of experience tutoring/mentoring GCSE students in a school setting.

I have one year of experience of Mentoring A Level students in Philosophy and Ethics.

I have 2 months of experience teaching English as foreign language.

Tutoring Approach:

Through my work with 100s of students I have developed a holistic approach to identifying and addressing individual needs of every student. I have created an extensive assessment form and a range of reflective activities to get to know the young person, what motivates them and what stops them from achieving.

During an initial assessment I identify the young persons mindset, confidence, study skills, writing skills, thinking skills, stress management skills, organisation skills, exam skills, goal setting skills and personal development skills.

After an assessment we decide on the type and number of sessions. I then work systematically through each area using coaching and mentoring techniques. There will be a small task for a student to complete after each session.

Often it might be beneficial to work together with a parent during certain sessions.
