Personal Description:
I am 45 years old and have been teaching for 16 years. Currently I teach at a College in Lancashire, and have experience teaching in Adult Education, secondary schools and undergraduates. I have a First-Class BA (Honours) degree in English Literature and Language, a Masters Degree in Literature and a Masters Degree in Teaching and Learning . I am happy to tutor Key Stage 4 and 5 students, undergraduates and adult learners. I can tutor both in my home and the home of the tutee. Additionally, I am happy to tutor online.

Teaching Experience:

My main responsibilities have been as Head of English, teaching secondary school students at Key Stages 3,4 and 5. Currently I am responsible for Teacher Education and Access to HE, and teach Access to HE, A Level and GCSE English. I have also successfully tutored students sitting LNAT entrance exams (for Law Degree applicants).

In addition to my teaching experience, I am also an Examiner for Edexcel A-Level; this role includes marking scripts for the A2 exam in English Language and Literature, and attending ongoing standardisation meetings. I also mark the GCSE Literature Poetry exam paper, and am a moderator for GCSE Speaking & Listening controlled assessments.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer private tuition in English Language and Literature, and my approach is friendly and relaxed - my main aim is to ensure that my tutees enjoy their learning experience and get pleasure from developing their understanding of Literature and the English Language.

Personal Description:
Graduated from Oxford University 2 years ago, studying Engineering Science in which I achieved a First. I am currently working as an engineer for WSP in London. I used to be a competitive swimmer. I was a British record holder, British Champion, took 2 years out of university to train full time in the lead up to London 2012 Olympics, so I am accustomed to good self-discipline and hope to inspire similar drive and determination in academia with the students that I work with. At A-level I studied Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Latin, achieving A grade in all of them and achieved 9 A* grades at GCSE. I would describe myself as a very relaxed, friendly and approachable person and am very patient.

Teaching Experience:

I have a dyslexic younger brother who I tutored a lot for GCSE maths and science. I have also tutored a several other students for GCSE, AS and A-Level Maths and Physics. At school I used to help explain various concepts to fellow students.

Tutoring Approach:

It would work best if the tutee contacted me in advance, outlining where they're having trouble and what they'd like to go over. Then in the tutorials it is best if we work from the tutee's book but I have many I could bring along if they don't have one, and, from my experience, the best method of revising is practice, so after I have explained the concept we will work though some problems together until they have a firm understanding of what's going on.

Personal Description:
I have over 10 year experience working as a Chemistry teacher and I currently work in an Outstanding Sixth Form Grammar School. I am experienced with tutoring A Level and GCSE students and I have an excellent record of examination results. I completed a Science PGCE at Edgehill University in 2005 and graduated from UMIST (University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology) with a Chemistry BSc (Hons)

I am friendly, confident and approachable person. I have up to date knowledge of the current specifications for AQA and understand the demands that the new linear courses have on the students. I am able to work flexible hours after school or weekends to fit in with your needs and I offer sessions with prepared resources to ensure that your tutoring needs are fulfilled. My lessons are structured to optimise time to the benefit of the student.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught AQA A level and GCSE Chemistry in secondary schools for over 10 years and am judged as an Outstanding teacher. I have a large bank of resources and experience from this.
I have attended many AQA standardisation meetings and I am confident with the structure and style of examination questions. I receive up to date information regarding the new specification and have recently attended AQA's feedback on AS for A level Chemistry 2016.
There is much more emphasis and demand on assessment of practical skills and working in a school which has passed the inspection by AQA for the practical endorsement as well as attending an AQA course that focused on the required practicals and their assessment provides me with up to date knowledge that only a teacher can have.
I have been tutoring students for the last 5 years and have been able to help many students to improve their confidence and achieve their target grade allowing them to gain their place at university. I would be happy to provide any references if required from the parents of these students.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed, friendly approach to tutoring and use a variety of resources to help aid memory of difficult concepts. I use a lot of exam questions to practice exam technique and build confidence.
I enjoy adapting my teaching style to meet individual student needs and I am always willing to make new resources and revision aids to support my students.
I will bring copies of all resources free of charge.
I charge 35 per hour for home visits or 30 if you travel to me.

Personal Description:
I graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2001 with a 2:1 in French Studies. During my 3rd year I lived in Montreal where I studied French, Spanish, and Italian at McGill University. After graduating I qualified as a Teacher of English as a Second Language and spent the next few years teaching English in the UK and Paris as well as travelling to Spain, where I lived for three months.
In 2005 I gained a PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages (French and Spanish) from The University of Bath. From 2005 to 2006 I taught in a variety of primary and secondary schools before taking a permanent post at Matravers School in Wiltshire, where I worked for five years and gained internal promotion to second in department in 2010. During my time at the school I prepared students for both GCSE and A Level exams.
I also led trips to both Paris and Barcelona to give students a taste of life in these countries and an opportunity to practise their language skills in real life situations.
I have been working as a private tutor since 2012 and also work as an examiner for both AQA and Edexcel, marking the writing component of the French and Spanish GCSE. I recently completed a Master's in Technical and Specialised Translation (with distinction) from the University of Westminster.

Teaching Experience:

I have five years experience of teaching French and Spanish in a permanent post and currently work on a casual basis in various secondary schools in the Barnet area. I have been working as private tutor since 2012.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe a positive working relationship between tutor and student is the cornerstone of a successful learning experience. I aim to make my students feel at ease and safe to take risks in order to build their confidence and experience success. I tailor-make lessons to each individual student's learning needs and preferences so that the student is always at the centre of the learning process. I use a range of materials in my teaching including online resources, worksheets, games, speaking activities, and past exam papers where appropriate.

Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified secondary school art teacher, and university lecturer in History of Art. I completed my PhD in History of Art at University College London (UCL) in 2013. I have published my research in a number of academic journals and edited book collections, and I am currently a Research Fellow at Cornell University Society for the Humanities, USA.

I'm currently based in the United States until August 2017, and I'm presently offering Skype tutorials only until this time. As of August/September I will be based in Hulme, Manchester and can travel up to 20 miles from the city centre, or meet students at my central Manchester art studio. I'm available for Skype appointments at any time, taking into account the time difference (-5 hours EST).

Teaching Experience:

I am a fully trained secondary school teacher, specialising in Art & Design and Photography at KS3, KS4 & KS5. I have 10 years teaching experience, including working as a specialist Learning Support Teacher, and in Special Needs schools catering for children and young adults with a range of special educational needs, from moderate learning difficulties to profound and multiple disabilities.

I have particular expertise in studio practice (art and design), digital and darkroom photography (theory, history and practice), literacy, social and vocational skills, as well as History of Art, Anthropology and History of Medicine at undergraduate level.

I am also experienced in teaching at undergraduate level, having taught gallery-based first year History of Art courses, for University College London's History of Art Department, and on the History of Art degree programme at the University of Manchester.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a one-to-one, flexible approach to learning and teaching, which first establishes the needs and goals of the student, and then sets out clearly structured strategies for achieving these goals. These may be results-focused when preparing for exams, or aimed at developing a broader understanding of a subject area, depending upon the student's own priorities. I am happy to work with any course materials the student may provide, and I am familiar with all current GCSE and A Level syllabuses. I am able to guide both GCSE and A Level students through their studies, offering consistent, dedicated 1-2-1 tuition for the full term of the course. I can also provide practical tuition for students who are preparing their art portfolios for University submission, and can offer assistance with UCAS forms and references for students who undertake long-term A Level tuition with me.

Tutoring may take place at the student's home, or at my art studio in central Manchester, where I can provide a range of art materials and resources by prior arrangement, for more intensive practical art sessions. Please note that I can travel within 20 miles of central Manchester based on the fee structure quoted below, travelling further will incur a small additional fuel fee.

I have had recent successes with my private students, one of whom attended one-to-one sessions at my Manchester studio for 8 weeks and improved her predicted GCSE Art result of a B by two grades, achieving an A* in her final art exam. My most recent undergraduate students have also attained First class results in their undergraduate degrees. One student achieved a high score of 78 on her History of Art dissertation project with intensive tutorial support conducted via Skype; and another progressed from a fail during the first year of his Visual Communication degree, to a First class final result in his third year, following 2 years of regular commitment to one-to-one tutoring.

*Please note that due to the time-intensive nature of undergraduate level tutoring, I am only able to take on a maximum of three undergraduate tutees at any given time. Please see below for my current availability for tutoring at this level.*

I am currently tutoring TWO undergraduate students.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

GCSE Level:

A Level:

University Undergraduate Level:

"I wanted a tutor to give me help and advice on my undergraduate history of art dissertation. I needed reassurance that what I was writing was okay and some one to proof read and give me their opinion on my arguments. Gemma was brilliant, she gave me the confidence that I needed to keep going with my dissertation by reassuring me that I was on the right track. She discussed my ideas with me in detail, proof read all of my work and suggested and sourced articles that I might want to have a look at. I have recently graduated from Newcastle University with a First in History of Art and Media and I know that I owe Gemma a huge thank you for the support she gave me on the way to achieving this."

Personal Description:
My name is Karina, and I am a qualified teacher having completed the graduate scheme Teach First, and passed with Outstanding. My experience within the classroom has helped me adapt my teaching style to each individual. I understand that each student has their own needs and struggles, and may benefit especially from private one-to-one tutoring.

I now work in management consultancy specialising in Education and Health & Public Service. Even though I no longer work in the classroom, I am keen to continue to support students in their studies for their GCSEs and A Levels.

My own education has shown me excellent tutoring and teaching methods, and has compelled me to provide a similar, excellent tutoring experience. I was first educated at The Lady Eleanor Holles School in Hampton (a top 10 Independent School), which allowed me to experience a variety of different teaching methods from all disciplines. From this, I have been able to study at a top 10 university, specialising in the subject that most appealed to me at school.

GCSE tutor at an Inner London school.

Tutoring Approach:

Before the first session, I will attempt to understand the certain topics the student requires help with, and prepare materials ready for this session. For every session, I will bring along materials, past papers, exam questions, presentations and videos to go through with the student. Where relevant, I would like the student to complete a full exam paper where I can understand the topics that the student is struggling with. Feedback on these exam questions is essential, and I will work to understand why the student is struggling with the problems, and build on the methods they are already using to answer the problems.

Personal Description:
My name is Kay and I have 17 years' experience as a tutor in all of the following subjects and levels:

1) English at Primary level (Years 1 to 6), KS3 , GCSE (Language & Literature) and A level Literature.
2) Maths at Primary level (Years 1 to 6).
3) History at KS3, GCSE and A level.

I also have 20 written references from parents, for students of various abilities, across all these subjects and levels.
I have an English-related degree (in History- which included some English modules within the degree), and I have a Level 1 City & Guilds Teaching Certificate in English.

I also have a proven track record of improving student's grades, regularly improving them by 1 to 2 grades, often in less than 1 year's tuition. For example, in English, I recently tutored a student at GCSE level- he had been predicted C grades in both Language & Literature, but after just 8 months' tuition with me, he achieved an A in his GCSE English Language exam and an A* in his English Literature exam. This is typical of my success over the years as a tutor.

I use National Curriculum Resources for all tuitions. Furthermore, I have great experience tutoring all abilities from the gifted and talented to those with Learning Disabilities (I have regularly taught students with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Asberges).

I can either travel to the student's home or they can come to me. I am available to tutor on all evenings of the week, Monday to Friday, as well as in the daytime.I tutor through most of the School holidays, providing the opportunity for students to put in extra revision during these periods.

Teaching Experience:

As a full-time tutor, I have built up an extensive knowledge of the National Curriculum and the various exam boards.
I have also built up a wealth of National Curriculum Resources for English, Maths and History : my 3 main subjects.

For English, I have resources covering the following: Spelling, Punctuation, Grammar , Phonics, Vocabulary, Sentence structure, Comprehension and Creative Writing.

For Maths, I have resources from the very basics: Number Bonds and Counting up and down at KS1, to the 4 operations & main topics : for example Fractions , Decimals and Percentages at KS2 . Also, I have books for Gifted and Talented Maths students at the top of KS2 level. In addition, I have an extensive resource base of past exam papers in all subjects and levels.

For History, I have National Curriculum Resources for the various exam boards and plenty of past papers.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a firm believer in making students feel at ease in the lessons, and in offering plenty of encouragement during the tuitions to build the student's confidence in the subject I am teaching.

I generally teach a topic to a student , and then set practice questions for the student to attempt based on my teaching.I am open to setting homework for the students, but always liaise with the parents as to whether they want their child to have any and if so how much.

Personal Description:
As an energetic, polite, and highly motivated individual I absolutely commit to anything that I participate in: from playing musical instruments, to touch rugby to teaching! I take my commitments very seriously and I am always dedicated to my work, throwing my considerable personality to inspire all those around me to do better.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently a 4th Year student at the University of Stirling studying Secondary Education with English and will graduate with a BA Hons in August 2016. As a student on the course I have first hand experience of teaching to numbers between 12 and 30 pupils ranging from the ages of 10 up to 17, teaching all the Scottish National qualifications and the 'new Higher'. This has happened both within the university and out on placements within schools in my area; therefore I have an acute understanding of the difference between English studies and English teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very professional yet enthusiastic individual who takes an immense pride in his work: being pro-active and flexible to meet the individual requirements of pupils / clients is something that I take very seriously. Positivity is also a very important aspect that I bring to my teaching as I believe that a positive attitude fosters both positive results and a positive work ethic for my pupils.
