Personal Description:
Hello! I am a 26 year old female Masters student in Biology and Physics at the University of Liverpool, where my project is on bionanoparticles. My undergraduate degree was in Physics and Computer Science in which I achieved a 2:1. I have personally passed 11+ entrance exams so I am experienced in the Maths, English and Reasoning required for these tests. I tutor at an academy in Liverpool.

I enjoy tutoring because I genuinely love to help people understand new ideas and give them the tools and confidence to learn new topics and pass exams, so I hope you choose me as your or your child's tutor.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently employed as a one-to-one tutor at a private academy in Liverpool. I also teach privately through this website. I teach children from 10 years old to AS Level in the subjects of Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, preparing the AS-Level and GCSE students for their exams. I also prepare children for the 11+ Entrance exams into selective schools. I teach English as a Foreign Language to both adults and teenagers, at levels from lower intermediate upwards. I am preparing students for these EFL exams: Cambridge First Certificate in English, and the University of Bath English Language Testing qualification.

Tutoring Approach:

I love teaching so I am very patient, friendly and encouraging. I feel people learn best when they feel safe and reassured. I feel understanding is very important so I always ensure they truly understand the subject by breaking complex ideas down into manageable chunks and coming up with explanations that clarify the ideas at hand. Everyone has their own way of learning and their own needs so I tailor my approach to suit each student to ensure a fun and accessible learning experience. I am very familiar with a wide range of study skills including accelerated learning techniques, the eight intelligences, Visual/Auditory/Kinaesthetic and Reflective/Pragmatic/Theoretical/Active learning styles etc so I have a very wide knowledge of practical ways to aid learning. I have loved my subjects since I was a child and I always find them interesting so I can pass that enthusiasm on to my students and make a difference in their lives.

I am willing to travel a reasonable distance to your house for no extra charge or tutor from my home. I can also tutor in a central meeting place such as a library or coffee shop. I am willing to travel further but I would then charge for travel. Please contact me and I will try to fit you in immediately.

Personal Description:
My experience gained through travelling has provided me with a strong element of independence, adventure and education. Having challenged myself has turned me into a much more confident individual and having good self confidence has also helped me win friends and influence people. It has made me more aware of my abilities and my limits all of which are invaluable qualities to have when making decisions. Logically thinking when in tricky situations and gaining the skill to fix a practical problem has given me the ability to calmly assess options, sometimes under pressure and being vital in saving time and money. I am calculated and can plan ahead in the short and long term. I persevere through hard and lonely times sticking it out and am also aware of other influences around me. I am comfortable with adapting to vast, diverse and strange environments in a variety of cultures. I have learned to tolerate situations which I don't like and become less judgmental by immersing myself whenever possible in cultures that appeal to my imagination.

Teaching Experience:

I have educated and mentored a wide variety of age groups in a mixture of diverse cultural schools and organizations. Some of the curriculums that I have designed developed and taught include pre- school, high school subjects, banking, nursing and presentation skills .These have been tailored and taught to Kindergarten children, adolescents and business professionals. In addition I have extensive experience in preparing, counselling and evaluating second language students gain access to higher/further education in western universities.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that education is the key to success for young students. As a teacher, I hope to motivate students in ascertaining their inner strengths and abilities and discovering what truly inspires them. I aim to provide a stimulating learning environment that encourages students to trust their own opinions, while fostering confidence in order for students to realize their full potential.

Through my experience thus far, I have found the method of facilitating rather than dictating to be a highly beneficial style of teaching. I have learned that if students construct their own learning experiences they will not only retain information longer, but they will also become more confident in their abilities. Being devoted to this assertion confirms that I have made the right career choice for myself.

I have come to realize how vital education is in the preparation for young people to achieve success in all endeavors set before them. I hope to install a love of learning and a desire for constant knowledge within each student.

Personal Description:
I have recently completed a PGCE in English and I graduated in July 2008 from the University of Leeds with a 2:i Hons in English and Japanese. As of September 2009 I will begin studying for an MA in English Literature.

I have always been interested in languages and in reading, however while at secondary school I felt disinterested and unengaged, as though lessons were something to be endured rather than enjoyed. While assisting at a number of schools I discovered that this did not have to be the case, and so I developed a desire to help people enjoy learning.

Teaching Experience:

I hold Qualified Teacher Status having completed a PGCE in Secondary English. In addition to this, I also achieved a post-16 recommendation as a result of teaching A-Level English Language and English Literature.

During my PGCE I undertook extended placements at Mount St. Mary's Catholic High School in central Leeds, and Bradford Grammar School. At these schools I taught a wide range of classes from Year 7 up to A-Level, and taught a full range of abilities, including both SEN pupils and A* pupils at A-Level.

Before completing my PGCE I also had experience assisting in both Primary and Secondary schools, and in teaching Japanese and conversational English privately.

Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor I attempt to make sure that I relate to each individual, personalising materials and ensuring that materials and discussions are relevant by combining the core principles of the subject with modern, understandable examples. In this way it is possible to make sure that pupils understand how a topic applies to them, rather than merely forcing themselves to memorise information.

I use a range of approaches including visual, audio and kinaesthetic aids and activities to ensure that the pupil is engaged and that learning is an active rather than passive experience.

About Me

I grew up in South Wales as part of a large musical family.

I started playing piano and studying singing at the age
of 8, where I first studied Piano with Joyce Powell and the very talented Rowena Oakey, and 's Newport. I am also a skilled marching band percussionist,
having played all the instruments in this family.

From Head Chorister at St. John's Church, Maindee, and Bandmaster of the Borough of Newport Pipes & Drums, I conducted the Massed Male Choirs at the National Eisteddfod in Newport in 1987 at the age of only 21.

I am a former trombonist of the Band of the 3 BattalionRoyal Regiment of Wales, and former conductor of other male choirs including Newport (Gwent) and Snowdown (Kent).

I also studied singing at many RSCM courses. I have performed in a variety of venues including Bath Abbey, the Royal Albert Hall, Westminster Cathedral, Cardiff Castle, Dover Castle, Plymouth Hoe, the NEC and Wembley.

I really enjoy performing, conducting and teaching - all three skills I use to the pupil's advantage.

In 2001, I formed what is now the very successful Wessex Male Choir, whom have since won many competitions on the International stage, and which is still growing in size (now 60 choristers strong!), musical ability and popularity. See our website

In 2005, TV & Radio Presenter and singing star Aled Jones, became the choir's patron.

I have arranged lots of music for Male Choirs and some solely for Wessex.
I feel humble that my passion for choral music has enabled me to be entrusted not only with continuing the fine tradition of Male choirs, but preserving and developing it for generations to come.About Me

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Rob.
