Personal Description:
I am an experienced, friendly and approachable lady working on a freelance basis and am still involved with High School teaching in the Leeds area. I worked in industry before deciding to fulfil my ambition to become a teacher. My interests are varied and include reading, drama, cooking, play- writing and creative design for craft work to name a few!

Teaching Experience:

I have twenty years' experience of teaching English in High Schools -class teaching and one to one tuition. My expertise also incorporates teaching English as a second language having gained a Trinity qualification in Barcelona.
Over the years I have had considerable success with a variety of students, improving achievement levels and GCSE grades.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very friendly person who tries to make learning fun. I understand the frustrations of young people who are demotivated and struggling to make sense of the English curriculum. My view is that there has to be a two way process and I will encourage the student to develop independent learning skills.
I am happy to teach students in my home or the student's-depending on distance. Travel expenses would be charged if not in my local area-LS17 (North Leeds).

Personal Description:
I studied Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London. After 2 years however, I decided to switch over to studying Biological Sciences locally at Salford University. I graduated this year with a First Class Honours in Biological Sciences (BSc Hons) ranking in the top 2% of our class.

I am currently conducting research into novel immune therapies for autoimmune diseases and am also in the process of starting up a part-time teaching agency. Teaching is something I have enjoyed immensely throughout my studies, and continue to do so.

Coming from a varied academic background has given me a strong foundation in all of the Natural Sciences (Maths, Chemistry & Biology and Physics). I am passionate about all of these subjects - I would be more than willing to help a student out in either of them!

I studied locally in Manchester for my GCSE`s and A-levels where I achieved the following grades:

4 A`s at A2-level in:
Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics & General Studies

6A stars`s, 2A`s, 2B`s at GCSE Level

6A stars :
Mathematics
Biology
Chemistry
Physics
Business Studies
French

Teaching Experience:

Taught extensively at GCSE/A-level at all of my previous schools. This was as a part-time tutor for under-achieving students after school and during some lunch breaks.

As well as often helping out classmates unofficially I have tutored several students at my university and in local colleges up to A2 & Undergraduate level in Chemistry & Biology (and selected topics in Maths) helping them to achieve the highest possible marks in the their exams (100% success rate to-date). So far it has been an immensely enjoyable experience - and one that I am committed to pursuing!

Tutoring Approach:

I treat each tutee as an individual and work with them according to their specific needs. I believe it is important to learn how to think critically & independently, especially when tackling science and maths. I encourage and help tutees to develop this thinking process and also to find out what really motivates them to excel in their chosen subjects.

I have many relevant learning resources (books, lecture notes, past exams, etc..) for all of my teaching subjects so along with your own learning materials I will add in some extra helpful material as & when necessary.

If you can specify what exactly your aim is (whether it be to cover a single topic, to complete a past paper or to learn a whole course from start to finish in time for an exam) I will help you to prepare and execute the best plan of action to reach your targets!

Please get in touch to discuss your goals and how best I can help you achieve them

Personal Description:
Currently a 2nd year medical student at Warwick Medical School with a high upper second bachelors' degree in Biological Sciences and research experience in both academic and industrial placements. My background is mainly in cellular and molecular biology, but with knowledge of microbiology, virology, human physiology and anatomy.

Outside of work, I enjoy reading, playing guitar (electric and acoustic), gaming and sports including snowboarding, squash, badminton and hockey.

Teaching Experience:

Extensive experience of peer support, group learning and student training. Head boy of secondary school.

Tutoring Approach:

It is vitally important to access what is required/desired from both the tutee and parents at the very beginning. I am happy to help in any way required, from explaining difficult concepts in ways that can be understood, to proof reading course work. Some students are visual learners, some learn by repetition, some by analogy and it is very important to establish early on how the tutee prefers to learn. Depending on what is required, I am also more than happy to set homework, go through exam questions and make revision plans/notes.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. I look forward to working with you

Personal Description:
I'm a 24 year old from New Zealand who has recently moved to Scotland.

I love watching sport (especially Football and Cricket!), reading literature, cooking, watching good movies and going out for a beer with my friends.

I am an open, approachable and relaxed person who works hard at what I do but enjoys a good laugh too.

Teaching Experience:

I have been an English teacher for over two years now. Immediately after completing my CELTA Qualification in Auckland New Zealand , I became an English Language Teacher at a highly-rated Private Language School there.

In my role as a Teacher at that School I taught every area of English Language at almost every level, from Absolute Beginner to Upper-Intermediate.

- My morning classes covered Grammar in detail, skills and vocabulary.
- My first afternoon class incorporated the skills in more detail, often with creative projects, and vocabulary.
- I also taught a second afternoon class which focused solely on Speaking skills: Pronunciation, Fluency and Functional language.

More recently, after moving to Scotland, I taught in a four week Summer School Program in St Andrews. In this role I taught communication skills to large classes of Italian teenagers.

I have enjoyed all aspects of my job and thoroughly enjoy being a teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a reasonably open approach to teaching.

I always find that it is very rewarding to ask my student(s) what THEY want to focus on/improve on/learn.
I do this because a) It makes the lessons much more enjoyable and profitable for the student
and b ) It gives me a good idea about how the student likes to learn and how they would like to be taught

I am very creative as a teacher and so can take basic ideas/topics/grammar points and make my own lessons and worksheets based on them, adapting them to the students wants and needs.

I am very methodical as a person and teacher, and therefore always try to make everything I teach and present to my students as clear and comprehensive as I can.

I like my students to work hard but am a relaxed and open teacher who will take a break, slow down or simplify the lesson if I feel my student needs it. I love learning and chatting about my students' cultures and ideals.

Personal Description:
Hello, my name is Katie and I am an American qualified teacher with a Master's degree in teaching from the University of Southern California. I had been a full-time classroom teacher in America for 4 years, and for 1 year in the UK, plus 2 years of part-time supply teaching.

I am currently a Graduate Teaching Assistant, leading undergraduate seminars at Royal Holloway, University of London. Additionally, I have a Master of music (Pass with distinction) from King's College London, and am currently pursuing my PhD in musicology (music history) at Royal Holloway. Though my specialisation is music, I am also highly qualified to tutor English and History.

I am a member of the former General Teaching Council, have had multiple advanced CBR checks, and have also taught several years as a vocal and instrumental tutor in private lessons. Though I was educated in the US (at a top-ten private liberal arts university), I have completed much of my post graduate work in the UK, and have learnt UK spellings and punctuation. I am quite technologically savvy and am comfortable with both mac and pc platforms.

I can help your student with:

English literature
English language
Study skills
GCSE and A-level history, music, or literature
General primary lessons
Homework help
Writing skills
American and IB entrance exams

Teaching Experience:

Royal Holloway, University of London, Egham: graduate teaching assistant, 1 term.

Beverly Hills High School, California: assistant choral director, 1 year.
The Horace Mann School, California: primary music, 1 year.
Harvard University Phillips Brooks House Association, Massachusetts: itinerant teacher, 1 summer.

Tutoring Approach:

I am an intuitive tutor who excels at finding unique and approachable ways to understand the material, tailored to my student's needs. As a classroom teacher at a diverse array of schools I gained substantial experience in educating children from a variety of backgrounds with a multitude of learning styles, and I believe I incorporate this experience when teaching individuals as well. I am an approachable individual, whom students of all ages usually feel comfortable asking questions of as well as making mistakes in front of, something I believe we should all be able to do (and learn from!) more comfortably.

Personal Description:
I'm a recent graduate with both a BA and an MPhil in Philosophy from Cambridge University. I've taken A Levels in English, Mathematics, and History as well, and am very comfortable teaching all these subjects.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutoring experience at both A-Level and University level, in addition to experience with small group teaching at Cambridge University, where I taught first year undergraduates in classes of 10. At the other end of the spectrum, I have an 11 year old sister and am very used to helping her out with homework, and know the challenges involved in teaching young kids too.

Tutoring Approach:

I place a big focus on being friendly and approachable to students, to help make sure they feel relaxed, which I believe is very important for effective leaning. I like to make sure I understand where they are finding things challenging, and why, but also where they are succeeding, to build confidence by emphasising achievements as well as areas for improvement.

Personal Description:
I am a 22 year old graduate with a first class degree in History from the University of Oxford, and I am looking to tutor GCSE and A-Level students.

During my degree I achieved a first class grade in preliminary and final examinations, and I won the Oriel Society Arts Prize for outstanding achievement in first year. I received Oriel college scholarships in my second and third year based on the previous year's work, and also recently received the Shannon Prize for outstanding achievement across my three year degree.

I received very high marks at History A-Level, and 100% in my English Literature exams.

Having been through the Oxbridge entrance examination and interview process, and coming from state school education, I can advise and provide mock interviews for any student considering applying to Oxford or Cambridge.

Teaching Experience:

I gained classroom experience in April 2013, taking a year 13 English Literature class who were preparing for their A-Level exam on Andrew Marvell. I was invited back in September 2013 to give the same presentation to this year's students.

I took part in the Mold Alun paired reading scheme, spending time each day to improve the reading of younger students.

I have helped history applicants to Oxford and Cambridge with mock interviews and advice in 2011 and 2012.

Tutoring Approach:

My priority is to make the subject content engaging and genuinely interesting - a fact or quotation that means something to a student will be much more easily remembered during the exam.

Tutorial sessions will be structured and all relevant content covered, but they will not take the form of a lecture. I encourage students to talk through their own ideas and let their feelings be known. From recent experiences in sixth form and university, the classes with dialogue between tutor and students were always the most enjoyable and most successful.

English: I like to introduce a new piece of writing in each session to prepare the GCSE student for the unseen part of the exam. For A-Level, I encourage the student to make brief comparative remarks between the set text and another work by the same author, which greatly impresses the examiner.

History: As well as covering the content, I like to give the student exam technique and essay writing practice in order that knowledge and facts can be used to full effect alongside general skills of analysis and understanding, which are required for dealing with primary sources.

Politics: I encourage using recent news stories as examples in essays, as these help to make theoretical concepts recognisable and easier to relate to. Showing an up to date knowledge of politics is also impressive to the examiner.
