Personal Description:
I grew up in the UK and then worked in Indonesia for 10 years, teaching Indonesian scholars on pre-departure academic programs. I also taught cross-cultural and study skills courses. After Indonesia, I moved to Australia, where I worked at two universities in Brisbane, the University of Queensland and Queensland University of Technology. More recently I have worked on Exeter and Bath University's pre-sessional program. I'm a friendly, kind and patient person with a good sense of humour and I love teaching.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for 20 years, mainly in the UK, Australia and Indonesia. I have experience working with English language learners at all levels and particularly at the university level. I can prepare students before their academic study or can assist them when they have already started university.
I am also very experienced in exam preparation. Most of my work has been on IELTS preparation courses (I used to be an IELTS examiner) but also on FCE preparation programs. I currently teach students in groups and one-to-one and I am available for Skype classes.

Tutoring Approach:

I think it's important to listen to students and identify their individual needs. I try and see them as they are, without judgment and I also encourage them to see the facts about their language learning, rather than their opinions. Many students say they are 'bad students' and this does not help their learning. So I show them a different path where they can look at the specifics of what they are doing and how they can improve their skills step by step. This makes them feel better about themselves and their studies. It also gives them responsibility for their own learning.
I also bring humour into the classroom as I feel laughter is very important to the learning process. Some students have said that my classes are 'like being in a family' and I think that's a lovely compliment.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly and approachable maths tutor based in Cupar and happy to travel around Fife and Dundee. I am patient and understanding and love to work with my students to help them get the results they deserve. Some of my students have been convinced they are no good at maths and ended up top of the class!

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching maths for 8 years at a wide range of levels, from lecturing big classes to one-to-one mentoring. I was a lecturer in maths at the University of Dundee and I teach school age students for their exams or just to improve their maths. I tutor a wide range of maths subjects at University level and also teach adults.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that everyone can understand maths if it is shown to them in the right way. My classes are a two-way process where we both listen and talk to each other. Together we will work out the path that is best for you and I will adapt my teaching style accordingly.

Personal Description:
I hold an Honours degree in Economics, with Mathematics and English.

My special interests are Mathematics and Languages.

I am an established children's writer and literary translator, with more than thirty books to my credit. My books for young children include the Mathemagic series, which seek to introduce basic mathematics concepts such as numbers, the use of zero, place value, the idea of infinity and so on to primary school children through stories. I have also written several books that encourage reading and literacy amongst primary school children. My other works include novels and literary translations.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught Maths and English from primary level to GCSE for several years - as a parent volunteer, as well as through private tutoring.

I also run creative writing and translation workshops for children, with a view to increasing and honing their literacy and language skills.

Tutoring Approach:

My style of teaching is informal, but structured, and caters to each student's strengths and weaknesses. I teach both on a one-to-one basis, and in small groups of 4-6 students. I prefer to teach in my house, and would require the student to come to me.

Personal Description:
Hi! I am Ana, a 23 years old Spanish girl currently looking for job in London.

I have a degree in human nutrition and dietetics, the Proficiency English Cambridge certificates and an 120 hours advance TEFL certificate. This summer I attended a course in the renown University of Nebrija to form people to teach Spanish as a second language and it was fascinating.

I love music, art, health science, English language, meeting people, reading, cycling and travelling.

My mother is a teacher and I have always liked helping my classmates with any doubts they had, so it would be my absolute pleasure to share my knowledge with who ever needs it.

Teaching Experience:

I taught English to children when I was in the university in Spain, and as an au pair I always try to teach my children anything I can, from art or music to reading, writing or helping with homework.

Tutoring Approach:

It depends a lot on the age as well as the subject. So basically we will talk it trough and try to work which ever way suits both of us the best.

Personal Description:
Hi, my name is Imogen and I'm 20 years old. I am a second year undergraduate student at the University of Kent, studying French, with modules in International History and beginners German during my first year. I previously studied the International Baccalaureate instead of A Levels and whilst doing this tutored a 16 year old girl in GCSE French - she went from a C to an A with just simple tutoring of the basics. My final grades for my first year included French grammar grade being a 72 (1st) and all other modules receiving above 62, with a 70 in International History and International Relations.
Last year (April 2013), I spent two weeks in Paris for work experience with a French company, improving my French by being surrounded by solely French speakers! I returned to Paris for 2 months over the summer to work for another French company, living and working in the French language which has greatly improved my understanding of reading and listening to French and I've become much more accustomed to speaking in French primarily too.
I believe that I have a friendly approach to tutoring.

Teaching Experience:

As previously mentioned, I tutored a 16 year old girl in GCSE French. Over the 9 month period, we improved on her basic grammar skills and reading and listening skills also. As well as this, I have helped (not necessarily tutored, but essentially, tutored) several friends at different subjects that we both studied, particularly GCSE History and IB Biology Standard. I have a brother who sat his GCSEs in June 2013 and as most of our subjects were the same, I tutored him and tested him often in the subjects that I took at IB. From this site, which I joined in December 2012, I gained one student very quickly and during our 4 months tutoring sessions, she improved her basic understanding tremendously, progressing from a D to a B for her oral exam in April.

Tutoring Approach:

In terms of my approach to tutoring, I like to assess what the tutee finds difficult and try and work in a different way to how they are accustomed to to see if it helps at all. I draw a lot from my experiences as a student as I have found the ways in which I have been taught very easy to understand. I would like to say that my approach is a lot more suited to children because, like them, I am a student too and I understand what they are coping with and how their mind works. Listening is of key importance and I make sure that I listen to what my tutee is trying to say.

PLEASE NOTE: Although I tutor GCSE History, I would like to specify that it would just be for the Germany option.

Personal Description:
Hi my name is Ernest. I'm currently studying MSci Physics (3rd year) in Uiversity College London.

Physics, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry:
I studied all of my secondary school years in Hong Kong, and self-studied GCE in Hong Kong. I was awarded A*AAA in GCE A-Levels in 2010, with Maths being A*. I had done at least 10 years of past public exam papers, therefore I'm richly experienced in examination techniques and skills, and I know very clearly what concepts most students misunderstand or get confused with.

Personally I prefer to have a 2-hour session each time to maximize the effect of the tutorial. Although my tuition fee is listed as 20 pounds and 17 pounds per hour, I will only acquire 35 pounds and 30 pounds if 2-hour sessions are booked. I'm living in central London in zone 1, and I can travel to up to zone 3 (or even zone 4 if it is near tube stations). I can do most weekday evenings and all day during weekends.

Music:
First, I DO NOT teach paper-examination type of music. I give instrumental tuitions for tenor / bass trombones and euphoniums.

I have been playing tenor / bass trombones for 7 years, and 9 years for euphonium. I got my ABRSM Euphonium Grade 6 distinction in the beginning of my third year of study in euphonium, and my ABRSM tenor trombone Grade 8 distinction in the beginning of my second year of study in trombone.

For the past years in secondary school I have participated numerous competitions with the school symphonic band, and was frequently awarded as the first three places in different competitions. In summer 2009 I performed "T-bone Concerto: I. Rare" as the solo trombonist with my school symphonic band. In Summer 2010, I participated in "CISM-Mid Europe youth band competition" with Hong Kong Young Musicians' Wind Orchestra, and was awarded the champion in group B and second runner-up in overall.

I am currently the first trombonist in the UCL Symphony Orchestra and the first trombonist and euphonium player in Hong Kong Young Musicians' Wind Orchestra in Hong Kong. I am also the trombonist of certain musicals produced by UCLU Musical Theatre Society, such as "Anything Goes (2010)" and "The Producers (2011)".

The tuition fee (per hour basis) will vary according to the level of the students as follows:
Grade 1-2: 20 pounds
Grade 3-5: 25 pounds
Grade 6-7: 30 pounds
Grade 8: 35 pounds

Teaching Experience:

Physics, Mathematics, Further (Pure) Mathematics and Chemistry:
- 7 years private tutoring in Physics, Mathematics, Pure Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology (HKCEE)
- 5 years group tutoring in Physics and Mathematics

Instrumental Music:
- 7 years group tutoring in trombone, euphonium and tuba

Tutoring Approach:

Physics, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Chemistry:
There will generally be two approaches to tutoring:

- Knowledge-based
The aim of this approach is to infuse the concepts of the subjects into students' mind. More detailed explanation / derivation towards different areas of the subjects will be given. Various ways of expression will be used to explain different ideas to students. It will be very interactive and inspiring.

- Examination-based
The aim of this approach is to give a boost to students who have exams / tests coming up. More examination techniques and skills will be taught. Also it will involve lots of exercises. Practice makes perfect.

The above two approaches will be used depending on the students' ability and progress. I will generally teach a bit faster than most teachers in schools, so as to let students have a deeper image of what's being taught when the teachers in schools teach that area. Also, I may not follow the chapters of the textbooks. I will rearrange the topics so that the flow of logic makes the most sense for students.

I strongly prefer face-to-face tuition since this is proved to me the most effective way of private tutoring. Nevertheless, online tutoring via Skype is still welcomed. Phone calls / messages / whatsapp / facebook messages are welcomed anytime if students encounter problems doing their homework / during their studies, free of charge.

Instrumental Music:
It will mostly involve basics of score-reading, breathing and instrumental practice. Students are required to buy their own practice books. Oral exam trainings will also be provided before instrumental examinations.

Personal Description:
I live in Central Scotland with my husband and two daughters, ages 9 and 5.

I graduated from the University of Stirling with BA (Hons) in German and History. During my time at University I worked as an Au-Pair in Bavaria, Germany looking after two young children in their home. I also spent a semester at the Univerity of Cologne which was required for my degree. After graduating I worked for IBM Germany in Greenock and then IBM Austria, working closely with IBM business partners in these countries and using my German language skills on a daily basis. I have also had the opportunity to travel in Austria.

Since secondary school, the German language has fascinated me and I thoroughly enjoy speaking, reading and listening to it. I loved the time I spent in both Germany and Austria and am always keen to return. It is a wonderful experience to able to learn about another county's people, their culture, the history and geography etc.

I am keen to inspire others to share my passion which has derived from being able to learn and use another language.

I currently work as a childminder and am a consultant with The Pampered Chef. These career choices enable me to be at home for my family.

Teaching Experience:

I have a lot of experience working with children. As well as having 2 children of my own and working as a childminder, I help out at the local Brownie unit and coach the primary school Netball team. I understand the importance of patience with children of all ages and I have good listening skills. I treat every child as an individual and use praise and encouragement at all times.

Tutoring Approach:

Tutoring will provide me with the opportunity to combine my love of German with my passion for teaching children (and adults if they are keen). I am happy to teach younger children and to help prepare older children for their standard grade and higher exams. I have a wide range of teaching resources at my disposal to be able to reinforce what is being taught at school. I will concentrate on all aspects of oral and written German paying particular attention to grammar, punctuation, pronunciation and spelling. I believe variety is important and will change topics and themes accordingly to engage the student and hold their interest and enthusiasm. Student feedback will be sought regularly and used to help me plan the best way to meet their needs during their time with me.

Personal Description:
I am a first year Physicist at Imperial College London. My clientele include students studying KS3, GCSE and A Level.

Having recently finished secondary school, I have an extensive knowledge of the education system and what is expected of students with regards to content and examination technique etc.

I feel I can relate to young students as I am not much older and have and still am going through the stresses and strains of exams! I understand how daunting Maths can be, as it certainly was for me when I was younger. However, one-to-one tuition may just be the catalyst that helps students 'click', and suddenly they understand this topic or can do this question.

I am undoubtedly competent in Maths, as shown by my results, and hope to show my students that they can improve their grades.

With the run up to those all-important exams, I can help students gain those crucial marks. I believe that to excel in Maths it is imperative that students practice, something which I can assist in.

Teaching Experience:

Have tutored students from a number of year groups and a range of exam boards including Edexcel and AQA.

Tutoring Approach:

I am open to the student's preferred style of learning and revision. I welcome specific queries and offer most help with exam questions. I can also explain whole topics if it was not picked up by the student at school or need further assistance.
Early on, lesson content will be largely dictated by the student until I uncover particular areas of weakness. Nearer to the exam period, emphasis will be on exam technique and working through past papers.

Personal Description:
I'm a second year undergraduate at the London School of Economics, where I'm studying for a BSc in Economics. I achieved 8 A*s at GCSEs and As and A*s in Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Further Maths and Maths at A-Level.

I'm a really friendly person and can get along with anyone and everyone. I believe it's important for a tutor to be able to make a student feel comfortable and at ease, so they're not embarrassed to request help or ask any questions they might have.

I previously studied at Woodford County Grammar School, where I was a senior prefect and represented my school in athletics. In my spare time, I'm a keen swimmer and jogger. I also paint and have been featured in local newspapers for my artwork.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked at two local primary schools for over a year now, assisting with Maths, English and Science. Whilst there I realised the importance of being able to engage with your students and ensuring foundational knowledge is in place, before moving into more advanced topic areas.

I also mentored students from my old school, Woodford County Grammar School, helping them to achieve their goals, whether academic, social or otherwise.

Tutoring Approach:

I do my best to establish a positive relationship with my students and identify ways in which to capture and retain their interest, particularly when covering more difficult materials. I believe attitude is critical to success in learning, so keeping my students motivated and energised plays a large role in my tutoring strategy.

I take a step-by-step approach to teaching challenging concepts, and consistently review previous materials throughout the course of the year to ensure topics remain fresh up until the exam. I also like to apply more abstract concepts to real world examples, to consolidate their understanding.
