Personal Description:
I have a lifetime of experience in graphic and fine art (including photography).
I now practice as a professional artist. I use several mediums, pencil, conte, watercolour, acrylic and oil.
I live in the Surrey Hills and am inspired by the landscape. However I am interested in picture making at all levels in any subject, believing that the subject is merely a reference point to an idea.
Art is largely subjective but is, like music, expressive of emotion, thought, ideas, and self.

Teaching Experience:

Adult Education at Ruxley Lane Centre, Epsom and at Reigate School of Art, Redhill.
Secondary Education at Carshalton High school for Girls.
University/Further Ed. at Hull, Epsom, East Surrey College, Norwich and Croydon Colleges of Art.
I tutor as workshops of up to 4 in my Buckland studio, or some individual tuition at the subjects' homes.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in clear demonstration of artistic principles and techniques and by guided practice by students. I am against the traditional style of art tutoring that simply allows the student to work with sometime critical comment 'over the shoulder'.
Art can be taught to a good technical level in the same way as any subject. Whilst everyone has natural ability to a degree, the student can learn to observe and record by training the eye and right brain. Many have no confidence in their ability. My aim is to give knowledge that inspires confidence so that a student may understand image making and learn to develop their own style through understanding of the principles of drawing, composition and creative expression.

Personal Description:
I am an English and Film graduate from De Montfort University and am currently living in Croydon. I have a passion for English, and literature in general, and I am very keen to teach it to students. I enjoy movies, cycling, travelling and reading and I plan to do an MA.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching English in various forms for over 4 years. I moved to Korea and was a full time English teacher in Seoul teaching academy students aged 4-14 for two years. I developed my teaching methods greatly and now I can show my private pupils how to succeed in their studies.

Before then I did substantial tutoring with individuals and groups in Leicester and London for 2 years. I have taught English to French children on a summer camp and developed effective ways of communicating with students. The experience of teaching English made me sensitive to what a student needs.

I also participated in a mentoring programme to help children in care build their confidence.

Tutoring Approach:

My strategy is to have the tutee and I discuss what goals the tutee wishes to achieve and together we will work to achieve those goals (e.g. coursework, poetry, exam prep, ESL skills). The tutee may bring before me any aspect of English literature or language that he/she wants to improve and we will work on it. For example, the tutee could show me some coursework he/she is doing and we could go through it and see what English skills need to be practised. I know how to teach the skills needed to pass national exams.

Personal Description:
I am 35 years old and am a passionate teacher from Salzburg in Austria. As my mother is Irish I grew up in a bilingual environment and thus offer lessons in German as well as English.
I have a Masters degree from Innsbruck University in the subjects English, Psychology, Philosophy and Ethics. My degree includes extensive teacher training.
Apart from being a teacher, I am currently doing a postgraduate degree in Psychotherapy. I am qualified, working towards accreditation, which is also the reason why I have come to live in the UK.

Teaching Experience:

I was a teacher in a comprehensive school (with focus on languages) in Austria from 2005 - 2014. My subjects are English (as a foreign language), Psychology, Philosophy and Ethics. Apart from teaching there (age group: 10 to 18 years old) I have a lot of experience in private tutoring.
I spent a year in America (Hollins University, Roanoke, VA) as a German teaching assistant where I taught German classes to beginners and advanced students of German.

Tutoring Approach:

I love my job and I love working with children as well as young adults and adults. In my eyes being a teacher is a very fulfilling job as you get so much back from the learners. It is not just the subject that is taught - as a tutor you also have a certain influence on the learners' attitude towards achieving goals in life.
Kids love to learn and want to be challenged and everything should be done to max out the learners' abilities and resources. I would consider my approach as a passionate and very engaging one. I try to find ways of making learning and studying a fun thing to do.
Being a psychotherapist helps me in my - when necessary - sensitive approach to children/youngsters who might have a learning difficulty or other issues.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly English male tutor, aged 58, retired from a career in IT, but with a life-long interest in the English language and its quirks. My interest in teaching languages developed from my own experience of learning Spanish, in particular practising with Spanish people and finding myself in turn explaining to them how English works ... !

Teaching Experience:

My experience of English teaching ranges from teaching young children with almost no English, to teaching adults with a very good level of English (but maybe not a good accent!) I am currently working part-time as an ESOL Adult Education tutor for Northampton Council.

My experience of teaching Spanish includes teaching friends and colleagues on a more ad-hoc basis, in addition to giving private tuition for small groups or individuals, usually beginners. My level of Spanish is sufficient to enable me to teach beginners, and my experience of teaching English together with the insights gained from my own Spanish classes together with my enthusiasm for the language enable me to teach in an interesting and effective way.

Tutoring Approach:

The initial level of skill and the target knowledge will vary for each person and it is vital to understand this as the first stage. Teaching needs to then be tailored to provide a gradual progression towards the targets. Classes must provide a variety of challenging elements, mixed always with a bit of fun or something "offbeat". What drives me is the enthusiasm to convey and explain my own fascination with language, whether English or Spanish.

Personal Description:
Hello! My name is Kai and I am a native German currently studying International Business at the University of Strathclyde. The first 16 years of my life I lived in Germany, went to school and played football like any other boy at that age. Then the urge to enjoy some valuable time abroad made me join a boarding school in North Wales for one term. Having only a very poor level of English skills made it very hard for me to communicate and integrate with the other students. Fortunately after a few months the situation drastically improved and to the surprise for everyone I decided to stay in Wales. After two years I had successfully mastered the A-Level examination (A*AAB) and also secured a place at several top Universities. In the end I choose to study in Glasgow and I can say I am very happy with that decision!
As I have already experienced the difficulties of learning a completely new language and managed to overcome those, I would love to help anyone to learn German simply because it is a great feeling to be able to speak a completely new language!

In my free-time I enjoy watching and playing sports especially football!

Teaching Experience:

In my time in Germany I taught younger students who were struggling in school in either Maths or English. I managed to help those kids a lot and their grades significantly improved over the years. As I sat a German A-Level exam myself in Wales (A*), I believe that I can find the right mix between teaching a language and preparing one for an examination.

Tutoring Approach:

The German language is known to be quite complicated, however there a lot of ways to simplify it. I am quite a chatty person and like to work in a stress-free and friendly environment. The easiest way to learn something is to have fun while doing so! I want my students to enjoy their time with me and gain extra motivation through that.
