Personal Description:
I have Special Needs University qualifications and counseling skills, which enables me to tutor students that may encounter emotional difficulties in their learning. I believe that motivation is the key factor to tutoring, as it needs to be addressed continuously in the process of learning.

Free slots available:
- Tuesday: 7.30pm onwards
- Wednesday: 4-5pm, 6-7pm
- Thursday: 5-6pm, 6-7.30pm
- Saturday: 5.30pm onwards

Teaching Experience:

I have been a private tutor for the past 14 years preparing students for +11, +13 exams in English and Maths. I also teach Maths up to AS level (C1 and C2).

I am a certified therapist in PhonoGraphix method for addressing spelling and reading difficulties both for children and adults.

I could also help with learning computers (ECDL syllabus including usage of Word, PowerPoint, Internet, Excel).

Tutoring Approach:

I have Special Needs University qualifications and counselling skills, which enables me to tutor students that may encounter emotional difficulties in their learning. I believe that motivation is the key factor to tutoring, as it needs to be addressed continuously in the process of learning.

As a tutor, I encourage my students to reflect upon their mistakes and to understand how to tackle the next step of their learning, without having a negative response.

I usually have the first lesson together with the parents so that the student feels comfortable and parents can observe my teaching; I present a folder containing the CRB form, qualifications, QTS certificate and letters of recommendations from parents. I teach from home in a calm and stimulating environment.
The first lesson is only paid if the parent decides to continue tuition.

Personal Description:
I have several years English teaching and GCSE examining experience following my degree and am currently teaching English/English at GCSE, A level and undergraduate level on a private basis. I have an MA in English which I passed with merit, and have recently embarked on a further Master's degree in Literature and Culture in 19th Century Literature and Culture.

Teaching Experience:

I originally taught A Level and GCSE English in FE colleges. Following this I started private tutoring in English at all ages and levels along with some basic Primary maths. More recently my work as an English Literature examiner has enhanced my understanding of student needs and of course the requirements of the GCSE exam syllabus. As I have been tutoring for some time now I am familiar with the varying requirements of all the major exam boards in GCSE and A level English Language and English Literature.

Tutoring Approach:

The greatest thing is seeing the student gain in confidence as their ability grows. One to one tuition enables the student to be honest about problems that are difficult to raise in the classroom at school or college. Consequently the tutor can focus on the individual needs of the student. This is the philosophy I adopt in tutoring. I am very conscientious, approachable and happy to adapt to the needs of the individual student , then watch them thrive.

Personal Description:
Of my 50 A-Level Law students 25% attained an A*and 35% attained an A grade last year. I have extensive experience delivering the year 7 to 9 math curriculum to both children and adults. I hold a Law degree, a PGCE, a teaching qualification for the delivery of Maths, a Masters degree in Education and am currently studying for a PhD in the Sociology of Education. Very friendly and able to identify the individual learning needs of my students.

Teaching Experience:

During my five years of employment in colleges, I have taught AS/A2 Law and Sociology to students aged 16 - 19 and legal elements of Level 3 BTEC Nationals in Applied Forensic Science. Students have consistently attained grades that rival private sector provision. Of my 23 A2 students that left in May 2014, 25% attained an A*and 35% attained an A grade. All but one learner attained a minimum of a C grade and no learner failed their course of study. This degree of outcome has been replicated with my current cohort of students, 50% of which attained an A grade at AS. These learners achieved significantly higher grades than predictions that were based on their performance in other A-Level choices and prior GCSE assessments. Attendance and retention rates of my learners are outstanding and the vast majority of learners continue into the second year. In my role I hope to improve the prospects of students who desire places at university. Further to this I have tutored Law and Sociology at undergraduate level, ensuring students attain 2.1 outcomes.

I utilise direct questioning at a suitable level for the individual learner and adopt appropriate teaching methods for the learning of more complex legal and sociological concepts.

My specialist areas of interest are international law, European un ion law, human rights, discrimination policy, religious freedoms/speech, reform and sociology.

Tutoring Approach:

I have received three consecutive `excellent` reports on my practice in the classroom.

I deliver lessons that are prepared with up to date knowledge of developments in the law and case studies often contain a Welsh dimension. Hand-outs and PowerPoint resources will always accompany lessons.

Prefer to keep things informal and friendly. Prefer to deliver in 2-3 hour teaching blocks.

Personal Description:
I have been a Biology teacher for 37 years. I am now retired and living with my wife in Hartland in North Devon.
We have four adult children.
I have taught in state schools and independent schools in UK and at International Schools in Africa and the Middle East. During my teaching career I have been Head of Biology for twelve years.
I have always enjoyed studying Biology and I like to think that I can pass my enthusiasm for the subject on to my tutees.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in UK for 19 years:
Twelve years at the Radclyffe School in Oldham, two years at St John Rigby Sixth Form College in Wigan and nearly five years at Shebbear College in North Devon where I was Head of Biology.
I have taught at International Schools for 18 years. All the institutions followed the British Curriculum:
One year at Barewa College, Zaria in Nigeria and one year at Seepapitso Secondary School in Botswana.
Nearly six years in Kenya at Hillcrest Secondary School, Nairobi where I was also the Head of Boarding.
Three years at Muscat Private School in Oman, two years as Head of Science at the British School of Alexandria, and three years at the Modern English School in Cairo as Head of Biology.
I completed my overseas teaching as Head of Biology at Al Khor International School in Qatar where I taught for two years.

Tutoring Approach:

I have always enjoyed studying and teaching Biology which has effectively been my lifetime's work. I have extensive experience of teaching students from many different educational backgrounds and I have always been able to relate to my students and nurture an enthusiasm for the subject. As a tutor I would aim to make my lessons enjoyable but rigorous and I will always try my best to boost the confidence of my tutees. If students begin to enjoy the subject they will gain confidence and the examinations will then seem less daunting.
Whenever I tutor I will always incorporate the use of a computer into the learning process. I like to refer to animations and short video clips which greatly enhance the learning process. The on-line resources can then be used by my tutees to reinforce their understanding, as well as researching new material.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate in Mathematical Economics from the University of Birmingham and a Chartered Management Accountant. I worked in finance for about twenty years and have been a governor in primary and secondary schools for many years before deciding to enter the teaching profession. I have been on the GTP training course for Secondary Mathematics at London South Bank University. I am the Instructor of the Kumon Study Centre in Eltham and do one-to-one tutoring in mathematics.

Teaching Experience:

I have 30 students on the Kumon maths programme at my study centre in Eltham. I individually tutor maths students from key stage 2 at primary school right through to A level. I also tutor statistics at GCSE, AS and A2 level. References are available on request.

Tutoring Approach:

There are many reasons why parents decide to appoint a tutor for their child. I will discuss your requirements in detail with you to ensure your child's tuition is tailored to them. Some pupils find the transfer from primary to secondary schooling problematic. I can explain the underlying mathematical concepts and to show them how to tackle questions so that they can get into the higher maths set for Key Stage 3 and GCSE. For older pupils I will build their confidence by presenting topics in a variety of ways and improving their exam techniques.
If one hour is too long for your child, I can arrange 30 or 45 minute slots. I will travel up to 5 miles from Sidcup.

Personal Description:
Hi! I'm in my final year of a French and Italian degree at UKC, where I'm reading lots of novels and writing essays on them! Last year I studied at universities in Geneva, Switzerland, and Bologna, Italy, where I also travelled. When I'm not in the library or a seminar, I love to cook, read, and write, I have my own blog. I can tutor in French, Italian, and English, up to A Level. I'm also willing to travel around North Kent, about 45 minutes outside of Canterbury, and tutor over email and webcam. We can cover anything on your course, from basic grammar and vocabulary to A Level cultural topics and speaking exams. Get in touch and we can see what would work best for you.

Teaching Experience:

At sixth form I helped several friends with their GCSE Italian work (they all achieved at least an A grade) and helped my younger sister with both her GCSE French work and her GCSE History coursework, for which she achieved and A* grade. When I was studying in Italy I also took a course on teaching languages to Primary School Children.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is simple: start with the very basics and build on these once they are secure. I will help with homework and coursework as well as practice for exams. I am also happy to provide materials such as grammar exercises and mark these.

Personal Description:
I am currently a 2nd year undergraduate studying Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Imperial College London. I was selected to attend the Google Top Black Talent Programme, recognising the best talents in the UK at the moment. I am a very sociable and creative person, which is why I currently hold the position of Creative Director of the Afro-Caribbean society at Imperial, one of Imperial's largest cultural societies.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught computer literacy to individuals from disadvantaged communities in South Africa.

Tutoring Approach:

Teaching is simple. Kids will never learn unless they want to. I intend to present my teaching in a way that is creative and interesting to the student, so as to make the best of each session. The best teachers do not just teach. They engage. It is paramount you are able to capture the interest of your student, something I am more than capable of.

Personal Description:
I am a science teacher who loves teaching and tutoring. I have a PhD in chemistry and my subject knowledge is excellent. This enables me to approach a topic from multiple directions to help a student to understand.

Teaching Experience:

For the last few years I have been Head of Chemistry in a selective state school. Previously I taught Chemistry in a non-selective independent school. This teaching experience has been augmented by private tutoring where I have supported students of all abilities at KS5, KS4 and KS3.

As well as teaching chemistry at KS3, GCSE, and A level, I have extensive experience of taking students beyond the A level curriculum, for example, BMAT preparation. I also have experience at teaching physics to GCSE and biology to KS3 and maths to KS4.

Tutoring Approach:

Many students are limited by their confidence and my approach is to take them in small steps from what they know to what they need to know to achieve their objectives. I seek to identify a person's preferred learning style and tune my teaching to achieve success. My first priority is always to ensure the student has a comprehensive understanding of a topic and I assess understanding continually. After a topic is mastered to the point where the knowledge can be applied, I use past examination papers and ensure that the student understands the expected form of answer to the full range of examination questions.

Personal Description:
I have worked as a part time tutor for the past academic year and during my gap year. After passing the first year of an accelerated Graduate Entry Medicine course with Merit, I am looking forward to entering the clinical years of my degree. I also hold a Bsc in Biological Sciences from the University of Liverpool. Working as a healthcare assistant during my gap year presented me with the opportunity to improve both my listening and communication skills. I hope to not only improve a student's academic success but also their learning style and study skills

Teaching Experience:

PRIVATE TUITION FROM 2014
I regularly undertake work for Tavistock tutors, as well as taking on my own clients privately. My experience ranges from 11+ and 13+ prep to undergraduate Organic Chemistry tuition. I have also delivered lessons via Skype. I was pleased that one of my recent tutees achieved her goal of grade A at A level.
MEDICINE ENTRANCE COACHING FROM 2015
A large aspect of my role as a student ambassador for St George's University is advising students on how best to approach the medicine application process. This has included leading mock interviews giving individual feedback to over 30 international students, help writing personal statements and advice on getting the best work experience placements.

Tutoring Approach:

From my own experiences, I understand that school tuition can struggle to tap in to the different ways young people learn, which may mean that they do not reach their true potential. I adapt my teaching style depending on the individual tutee, and try and make the sessions as fun and interactive as possible. I encourage open discussion and focus on conceptual understanding of a subject above rote learning, as I feel this better prepares the tutee for further University education and work.

I currently work as a student ambassador at St George's University (I am reading graduate entry medicine). This role has given me contact with young people who have an interest in the sciences and healthcare, and I have enjoyed being able to teach subjects that I am truly passionate about. Tutoring gives me the opportunity to do this on a one-to-one basis and allows me to develop a relationship with a student over a longer period of time, and have a more lasting impact on their education.

Personal Description:
My name is Joseph and I am a recent graduate in Engineering Mathematics from Bristol University. My passion is in mathematics and programming, but I also have an active interest in sciences as well. My A-levels were mathematics, further mathematics, physics and chemistry with grades A*, A*, A, A respectively. I am also applying for PhDs in machine learning for video games as well.
Whilst being academically capable, I also consider myself to be a good teacher too. I have ran lectures on video editing, workshops on improvisational acting and worked on plenty of group projects requiring a lot of communication to make sure all members understand what has been done and needs to be done.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience has been less personal than I would like. I have ran a lecture on the basics of video editing as well as a lot of workshops on improvisational acting. I would absolutely love to teach in a far more personal and engaging environment.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very hands on in my approach and love to have discussions with a student. I think relating work to modern day examples is very important to understand the bigger picture of "Why am I learning this?". I actively encourage questions and always try my best to explain something as best as possible for each person tutor. I don't like to give homework, but (especially for tests) I would ask students to do a little work in their own time. Usually some kind of research on something up to date and relevant examples where the work we've done is applicable.
