Personal Description:
I'm a recent University of Glasgow Biochemistry and MSc International Project Management graduate. I'm a French national and have been living in the UK for 14 years. I'm a lovely person, very dynamic and love the one to one of tutoring. It makes me really happy to help someone achieve something they have worked so hard for.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring privately now for 7 years and have seen my students come to grow in confidence, in understanding and in knowledge of their chosen topics. I saw a girl who I tutored for 7 months go from getting an 'Unclassified grade' in her Biology AS Level to a B in her A2. I have never seen a student of mine's grades stay the same post-tutoring and I am very proud of that.

Tutoring Approach:

I approach tutoring different ways depending on who the student is. I ask them questions about themselves, hobbies, favourite subjects etc; and then using that to better understand how they learn, I talk to them about their private learning and revision and the method of approach to that and to exams. And then I teach them using the method appropriate to their style of learning.

Personal Description:
I'm a BBC television journalist, with a science background. I have to Research new subjects from scratch in order to make informative programmes therefore I can take any subject matter and work hard to have a good understanding of it in a very short space of time.

My skill is teaching people new things - especially helping Students to understand subjects that they have always found difficult. I understand that everyone learns in different ways and that a single method of teaching doesn't work with everyone. By getting to know my student's personality, I discover the ways in which they learn, which means that I can work out the best way to help them to understand new subjects.

I'm patient and good humoured and am good at making people feel relaxed in my company, however I will push to ensure that the students take their work seriously.

Teaching Experience:

Eight years experience tutoring students at home and online - aged 8 upwards. Tutorial help with coursework, essay writing, exam revision and preparation, and practical film making. Tutoring sessions include tips on how to maximise exam marks.

Three months tutoring children in basic numeracy and literacy in the Philippines.

Two years as a cub scout leader - designing weekly classes and running activity sessions for 24 children, aged 8-11.

Tutoring Approach:

I take complicated information and unravel it so that it can be conveyed in simple terms and understood by people of all ages.

I teach a range of subjects in a way that makes them simple to understand and in a style adapted to each student's personality. I'm also skilled at writing reports and essays, particularly understanding all the applied thinking that needs to be demonstrated to gain extra marks.

I love teaching and pass on my enthusiasm to my students. I believe that it's essential to build up the pupil's confidence in their own ability to learn in order for them to become more interested and approach learning in a more focused way.

I always supply the students with extra Q&A revision papers so that they can continue learning outside tutorials.

I follow the syllabus provided by the exam board, to teach each topic. Then I go through past papers, explain how to answer the questions. I expect students to do the papers at home and give to me for marking. I go through their answers and explain how to answer the questions. My teaching approach is, first I assess the student's current knowledge regarding the subject and thereafter I pitch accordingly. I use simple language and current examples in explaining the theories and concepts. Also I give and discuss past papers with the student and guide them in the correct method in answering a question. I give home work from selected past papers. I prepare a simplified handout for every lesson and this handout is the final reading material for the examination. Sometimes I dictate short notes during the lesson and my teaching sessions are interactive, where the students are encouraged to ask questions and express their current knowledge about the subject. At present there are number of satisfied students. I am unable to disclose their identities with out prior permission from them. My first lesson is free of charge. Personal Description:
A Master of Mathematics graduate from UEA in Norwich, with a year studying in Melbourne Australia. I have great experience tutoring with various age groups and personalities.

I have enjoyed tutoring part time and full time for the past few years whilst learning a Postgraduate Diploma course since University. I was subsequently contracted in by a local college to provide individual and group tutoring sessions to underachieving students, during and after school.

Teaching Experience:

I started tutoring GCSE maths in Year 13, providing a very structured learning by my school. The students engaged well and it helped to have people of a similar age that the students could relate to, enabling a more relaxed learning atmosphere. I also informally helped peers of various levels whilst at university, maths students but also engineering and foundation levels. When my services were required in a particular area, then they asked for help on short notice.

On top of this I've been tutoring over the past 4 years, usually working 7 days a week from the new year onward. Peak hours ranged in excess of 40hrs of tutoring for several months. I've therefore assessed the likely weaknesses of a student and have already provided and perfected methods of explanation.

Tutoring Approach:

Can look at casual tutoring of areas of difficulty, or can do more structured learning of a curriculum, either intense learning or weekly troubleshooting. I've established good quality material for any level. Plenty of students just require good material and direction for their efforts.

The first meeting will be free with the aim of getting to know one another and the strengths and weaknesses of the tutee, and at what pace the student requires. At which point a structured plan of action can be drawn up. In some cases the tutee may lack the confidence in areas, but can in fact do what's required. Even a casual troubleshooting session every now and then can set their worries at rest.

Should extracurricular material be required or wanted then I'll be happy to provide. This material might not be hard for the tutee, but will help link in various areas of mathematics and will require a little thought about the patterns seen.

My current timetable (free to book anytime other than between the times below, already accounted for travel time):
Mondays: booked 5pm onward
Tuesdays: booked 6pm - 8pm
Wednesdays: booked 3.30pm onward
Thurdsays: booked 5.30pm onward

Three Years Experiences for Mandarin

Comments from students:

From John:
"I've had several Mandarin lessons with Wei so far, and have always found her to be very professional, friendly and well organised. She has a flexible approach to learning, tailoring the lessons to meet my needs and requirements. The lessons are informative, relaxed and fun.

Highly recommended.

John"

Comment from Corinna "Da jia hao" As a senior pupil of Madras College studying Mandarin, Dawson and Wei have been very helpful in increasing my confidence with certain aspects of the language, especially pronunciation; finding examples of common English 'sounds' that I could relate to and even recording audio files for me to listen to at home. It was great to be able to go though any difficulties I was having at my own pace instead of competing with my classmates and they were both very patient and friendly, my weekend tutorials with them have been most useful.

Comment from Kenneth "Wei gave me several fun and informal lessons, which were exactly the sort of practice I needed before heading off to China.
With each class she provided more in-depth and involved content than that which I was studying on my own from a textbook. She was also able to give clear answers to any questions I had which helped me to understand points in the language I had been struggling with.
As she is from TianJin her Chinese accent is as close to standard PuTongHua as you can get. I would recommend her as a teacher to anyone."

Maths:
I am very passionate and enthusiastic in helping students to understand and discover Maths as an interesting and easy subject. I ensure my tutoring improves my student's grade and confidence to achieve most success and best possible results in exams. Their achievements are my goal and priority. I am very patient and attentive to the needs of the students so that we can attain our goal .

Personal Description:
Currently, I am a Lecturer at London Metropolitan University in Chemistry (Bachelor level) and Visitor research scientist follow at The Open University. I am a PhD degree (Full-time study) holder in Chemistry from The Open University and Master's and Bachelor degrees in Chemistry from Bordeaux 1 University, France. I have been a tutor in Chemistry, Maths, Physics, French and Arabic with different agencies in London.
I am able to teach Chemistry for all level and Maths, Physics, French and Arabic for GCSE or National 3-5 and Secondary (11 to 14 years) students.

Teaching Experience:

I have taken every opportunity to develop my teaching skills while working at London Metropolitan University and The Open University. These include chemistry laboratory teaching, mentoring and training of both undergraduate and postgraduate students. I have also participated in various educational projects in other universities. For example, at the University of Bordeaux I, Science and Technology in France,

I strive to vary my teaching style to meet the learning needs of individual students. I have received high performance reviews for my ability to creatively make complex topics manageable. I am patient creative organized and
energetic.
Schools and universities focus on conveying a large amount of information to their students. But for most people that is not enough to create genuine understanding and an ability to answer exam questions. That is why many students, regardless of their ability, seek to get extra help from a private tutor.

My aim as a tutor is to create in my students a deep understanding and confidence in answering exam questions and being able to tackle new and unfamiliar problems. My philosophy is based on the idea that learning happens in an environment of mutual respect in which the student is encouraged to think and make new connections for themselves. My experience has been that one-to-one personal tuition has a unique value to students because of the ability to resolve the students' personal barriers to learning in a way that lays the foundations for a deep and lasting understanding of the subject.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach varies depending on the student's needs and learning style. However my teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world examples wherever possible. I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and examples to check understanding continually. I don't lecture to students or ask them to memorise things. Nor do I do the students' homework for them!

I usually focus on exam-style or past paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect the student's understanding and technique. I also give a lot of emphasis to some of the less obvious but vital skills such as essay structure and technique, logical thought, and the effective use of numbers and graphs.

I believe passionately in the huge value of tutoring to students and take great satisfaction in seeing my students achieve their full potential.
