I have enjoyed tutoring since 2008. I am involved in venture capital work commercialising technology from universities in the UK and US.

I am also an author and enjoy working with all ages on English Composition and Conversational English.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience in Maths, Physics, and English composition was gained in universities in Cambridge, Nottingham and Sheffield, as both a student and post-doctoral researcher. I have been tutoring since 2008.

I have helped many students to gain confidence in Maths, and conquer the fear of algebra.

Working together, many students and adults achieve high marks and win competitions in Essay and Report Writing.

YOUNG PEOPLE 11+, PRE A-LEVEL: BIOLOGY, HISTORY, ENGLISH, PHYSICS
In typical responsive lessons, I am happy to help increase your understanding of Biology, History, English, and other subjects. I help with working through the problems and discussing them and the bigger picture. The topics become more real and easier to remember for exams. Bigger trends are discovered and the entire field starts to make sense.

ALL AGES:
I work with students and adults on TEST PREPARATION and have achieved excellent results in the following:
* SATS
* Verbal, Numerical & Abstract Reasoning
* Aptitude tests in the workplace for career advancement

ADULTS:
My work with adults on CONVERSATIONAL ENGLISH has been praised for being interesting and creative, and is tailored to the individual. This could include visits to a museum or art gallery to discuss what we see, role play, story telling/writing, or even singing (a secret to achieving good pronunciation).

A strong area is Business MASTER'S DEGREES, using my understanding of business, and expertise in essay and dissertation writing:
* Research: literature review & interviews
* Interpreting & presenting data: to engage yourself & the reader

Personal Description:
A highly qualified, professional and enthusiastic Mandarin Chinese tutor with excellent teaching skills demonstrated by over 10 years of language teaching experience as a Mandarin Chinese tutor and university English language lecturer.

I am here to teach you Mandarin Chinese in a professional, effective and innovative way so that mastering the target language will be full of fun, stimulation and excitement and more importantly, achieving your learning objectives in the shortest time possible.

Face to face and/or on-line tuition service offers -
• 1st hour free trial session!
• Free 24/7 out-of-class support, advice and guidance!
• Design a tailor-made strategic teaching plan for each individual to optimise learning outcome!

Teaching Experience:

Back in China, I worked as a lecturer in English as a Foreign Language in Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Xi'an University of Technology and with strong passion to my teaching duties, I was awarded as Excellent Teacher in 2005. I have been tutoring English speakers in Mandarin Chinese since moving to the UK in 2007. Having been a Mandarin Chinese tutor and university English language lecturer makes me a versatile teacher. I have taken the opportunity to instruct a wide variety of students from various backgrounds and with varied learning purposes. As a result of over 10 years' language teaching, I am able to utilise my extensive teaching skills, experience and knowledge to implement comprehensive, systematic and constructive teaching approaches to effectively support students' needs, integrate multi-cultural teaching units, create and design curriculum and learning materials, make timely and accurate assessments and offer positive encouragement and reinforcement to keep students fully focused and motivated.

In addition, working as a teacher in both Mandarin Chinese and English has given me a deep insight into different aspects between the two languages in the features of pronunciation, vocabulary, sentence structure and grammar, etc. so that it allows me to explain explicitly similarities and differences of the mother tongue and target language to the English-speaking learners for the purpose of enhancing their learning efficiency.

I teach a wide range of levels from the beginners to the advanced. My tuition involves traditional classroom and on-line activities, assisting students to obtain their learning goals, supporting their academic, business purposes or personal interest, and it embraces the following areas-
• Academic Mandarin (GCSE, A Level and HSK)
• Universal Mandarin
• Business Mandarin
• Mandarin for Kids
• Tourism Mandarin
• Survival Mandarin
• Speaking and listening in Mandarin
• Reading and writing in Mandarin
• Hanzi writing
• Chinese business culture and etiquette
• Field trip and workshop (Chinese cuisine, cooking, media, travel, music, film, Beijing opera, tea culture, folk art, business negotiation and shopping & eating out etc.)

I compile tailor-made learning material/literature as well as using the published Chinese text books, such as -
• New Practical Chinese Reader (1-4) (Beijing Language and Culture University Press)
• Learn Chinese with Me (1-4) (People's Education Press)
• Easy Chinese (Beijing University Press)
• Easy Peasy Chinese (Mandarin Chinese for beginners)
• Edexcel GCSE Chinese
• Edexcel Chinese for AS
• Edexcel Chinese for A2
• Business Chinese for Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced (Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press)
• Winning in China- Business Chinese (Beijing Language and Culture University Press)
• New Century Business Chinese Series- Listening (Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press)
• Talk - Mandarin Chinese (BBC Active; The ideal course for absolute beginners)
• 15 Minute Mandarin Chinese (Learn in just 12 weeks)

Your favourite text books can also be used as advised.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring covers pronunciation (pinyin system), vocabulary/expressions, grammatical structures, sentence patterns, daily conversations, listening and reading comprehensions, writing, culture/etiquette and simplified Chinese characters.

One of the most effective ways I assist my students is by developing and presenting thorough and stimulating lesson plans that facilitate all learning styles. I research, locate and incorporate a variety of resources to accommodate students' needs and I integrate literature, workshop, classroom activities and technology to ensure that the students are able to comprehend and retain the concepts of the target language. My aim is to foster and maintain an open, fun, interactive, stimulating, communicative and supportive learning environment in which each student feels intrigued, concentrated, appropriately challenged and motivated.

I apply different teaching techniques and skills to different age groups. For adult learners, discussion or debates are often a great way to get them thinking and talking; having a good sense of humour is another good way of keeping adults engaged; focusing on topics of interests and practicality, for instance, if I teach business people, then topics related to what they are doing will probably spark up the students' interests a bit more. Children love games, songs and stories. Therefore I include these as much as possible in the class. By doing this, I will be able to let words sink in easier. Another effective technique is to find a simple story to tell the younger learners. Afterwards, ask questions by putting the words in different situations. This way, students can come up with their own answers. Effectively, I will be able to get the children to write their own sentences. This can be incredibly beneficial in terms of their production skills. Overall, with both younger and adult students, I manage to instruct the target language in a practical, stimulating and interesting way, which is the most beneficial method.

Personal Description:
Salut - Je m'appelle Solne ( pronounced so-len )

I was born and brought up in Paris, although much of my family roots lie in Brittany. I came to England initially to learn the language - but ended up meeting my future husband and starting a family here in Dorking, Surrey.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently giving private lessons to a number of adult students of all ages and abilities - all of whom have different reasons for wishing to further their knowledge of French - whether it be for business purposes, holidays or even just for pure enjoyment. School exam times are usually very busy for me - as students brush up for GCSE's and 'A' levels. I have past experience working for another well known French language club taking after school classes for young children and I currently teach one afternoon a week at the Duke Of Kent School in Ewhurst. I am also called upon to help with some translation and making phone calls to France to assist people with such issues as property.

Tutoring Approach:

Having initially gauged a student's abilities in the language - I will prepare each lesson to their specific needs & requirements - whether it be working on grammar or perhaps general conversational skills. My aim is to give people confidence and make learning enjoyable.

Personal Description:
I'm married with three children, currently in their late teens and early twenties, and with my wife have gone through the parental anguish of public and college/university exams every year since 2006 and will potentially do so until 2020!

I'm a professionally qualified accountant with an honours mathematics degree and a postgraduate certificate in education. I've had a career working in local government finance, supporting managers in managing their service budgets. I have particular interest in the relevant computer applications (e.g. spreadsheets), financial training and quality issues.

Teaching Experience:

Teaching practice at a Reading school.
Written and presented well-received financial training materials and currently lead a working group on training.
I've supported service managers with often limited numeracy ability to manage multi-million pound budgets.
While only one of my three children has a natural leaning towards scientific subjects, they got A, A* & B at Maths GCSE (fairly light-touch parental support, rather than any intensive tutoring).

Tutoring Approach:

While always mindful of the immediate goal to pass exams and "get the grades", I endeavour to instill real understanding of the subject. While it would be great to hear I've helped turn a C into an A, I'd just as much hear that someone no longer fears or hates maths lessons.

Apart from Maths tutoring I can offer:

Excel Spreadsheet Support:
One-to-one sessions tailored to your needs, to learn new functions, pick up tips and good spreadsheet practice, problem solve on your current spreadsheets or help you build new practical spreadsheets.

IT Basics - Got a computer and haven't got a child at hand to help you; then maybe I can help. I'm no computer geek, but over the years I've learnt to solve most problems thrown up by out IT equipment at home and at work and have used them in a variety of practical ways.

Financial management for non-accountants: Are you one of those people given the responsibility to manage a budget at work, but feel you are lacking a bit of confidence and some of the skills to do it properly? Did you leave mathematics behind at school and feel it hasn't quite prepared you for this? I can hopefully help you build confidence in your own abilities and show that a bit of calculator common sense or spreadsheet savvy is not beyond you.

Personal Description:
I graduated in 2014 with a 2.1 in Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry from the University of Oxford (St. John's College). I completed my A levels at Dr Challoner's in Amersham.

I'm enthusiastic about teaching and believe the sciences are something anyone can get to grips with once someone has explained the ideas to them in a clear and concise manner.

I am currently going through the process of becoming an officer in the British army and so am available to tutor until October 2016. In addition to in-person tuition, I can also provide help via email or skype, which could be especially useful for clearing up last minute problems before the exams. I can also provide tuition for advice on Oxbridge interviews for students applying for university.

Teaching Experience:

I have currently accrued over 250 hours one-on-one tutoring experience!

I participated in a mentoring scheme at my school tutoring pupils from years 8 and 9 for over a year. I have also given tutorials to biochemistry students in the year below me at uni. I have also tutored my little sister in the sciences for her 2013 GCSEs, as well as maths A level in 2014 and 2015.

Tutoring Approach:

Ideally I will contact the student prior to the tutorial and ask them what board they are on and to provide me with a list of any topics or issues that are troubling them; we will then spend the tutorial going through each issue until I feel he/she has grasped the topic.

Alternatively, if the student doesn't have any specific problems, I will give them some exam questions to answer and we will go through each question and the topic that it represents with them, at some degree of detail according to the level of understanding shown by the tutee's answer.

The questions can either be done during the tutorial, so that the answers and problems they faced are fresh in their mind, or can be emailed and completed before the tutorial.

I try to keep my tutorials relaxed and conversational so that the tutee feels comfortable with the work and isn't afraid to ask any questions, no matter how silly they think the question

Personal Description:
My name is Karina, and I am a qualified teacher having completed the graduate scheme Teach First, and passed with Outstanding. My experience within the classroom has helped me adapt my teaching style to each individual. I understand that each student has their own needs and struggles, and may benefit especially from private one-to-one tutoring.

I now work in management consultancy specialising in Education and Health & Public Service. Even though I no longer work in the classroom, I am keen to continue to support students in their studies for their GCSEs and A Levels.

My own education has shown me excellent tutoring and teaching methods, and has compelled me to provide a similar, excellent tutoring experience. I was first educated at The Lady Eleanor Holles School in Hampton (a top 10 Independent School), which allowed me to experience a variety of different teaching methods from all disciplines. From this, I have been able to study at a top 10 university, specialising in the subject that most appealed to me at school.

Academic Qualifications:
Teach First PGCE with Distinction (Outstanding level)
BA (Hons) Economics and Business with East European Studies (Upper Second) from University College London
4 A Levels: Economics (A), Geography (A), Mathematics (A), Russian (A)
11 GCSEs: 5A*s, 3As, 3Bs

Teaching Experience:

Qualified Teacher with Teach First for two full academic years
-- Teaching Key Stage 3 and 4

Pre GCSE Mentor at an Inner London school.
-- Included tutoring in several subjects.

GCSE tutor at an Inner London school.
-- Specialised mainly in Mathematics.

Chess tutor at national chess tournaments
-- Having trained with International master
-- I am also able to tutor chess at request.

Tutoring Approach:

It's difficult to establish one certain approach to tutoring, as I believe every tutoring method must be unique to the pupil. Having said that, I strive to achieve a relaxed and informal way to teaching, making the pupil feel relaxed and calm about the lesson.

During the first lesson, I will establish what the pupil does not understand in the subject and I will understand better how I can explain the problem. Drawing on my own education experience, I will work through the problem together with the pupil, and letting the pupil come to his own solution. I believe that only this way, will the pupil understand that he has truly achieved this, rather than the tutor explaining it from A to B,

Personal Description:
Teaching has been my vocation for longer than I care to remember. My own children have been my first interest but with them all off to university (one after a delay to compete in London 2012) I find I have time to give and would like to help more children find success.
For myself I love to play badminton, read and I spend a lot of time walking my dogs.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in three schools but latterly thirty years in a comprehensive in Wolverhampton. I have been a Head of Maths for more than twenty years as well as an Assistant Headteacher and Examination Secretary. Presently I teach `A` level Maths and Further Maths full-time and would be only too happy to share my results with a prospective client.
I have been involved in the writing of very successful `A` level text books.
I have marked SATs, GCSE and GCE `A` level papers.
I have tutored occasionally over many years, often for friends or family friends. All three of my children took Maths at A level and two of them Further Maths.

Tutoring Approach:

People and in particular children enjoy what they are good at; by offering them success at a carefully chosen and appropriate level I have been able to push them on to grades beyond what had been expected and to a level of confidence that will carry them forward for years after.
There cannot be many practising Maths teachers with more in classroom experience than I have, I know where pupils will go wrong, I know the reasons they don't want to work, I know the tricks that will improve their grade. I am also able to give them a genuine respect for this most useful and necessary subject.

Personal Description:
I am a French native speaker who currently lives in England.

I have been teaching French and English for 16 years both in England and in large international schools. I enjoy reading and travelling.

Teaching Experience:

I have prepared students for a variety of examinations, including AQA GCSE, AQA FCSE, CIE IGCSE, AS and A Level (Edexcel and AQA). I have also taught French to primary students.

I hold a Licence from the University of Aix-en-Provence (France), a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the University of Sheffield (UK) as well as a TESOL diploma from the University of Leicester (UK).

During the course of my career, I have lead the Foreign Modern Language faculty in a British International School.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that to successfully teach a language it is most important to look at each student individually. We all learn in different ways and I always make sure I get to know my students better before deciding on an approach.

However, the most important part is to make students feel comfortable and help them grow in confidence. Learning a language can be a challenge but, with the right approach and support, it can be a most rewarding experience.

Personal Description:
I'm and experienced tutor and teacher. Not just in the academic sense but in the practical sense too. I've worked in business, including six years as European Sales and Marketing Director of Pentax in Brussels and ten years as President of a French IT company. Real practical experience and real experience too in Politics - I was, for example, a candidate at the last General Election! So I can interest and enthuse my students in History, Politics and Business.
I have two sons, one of whom has just completed his GCSE's and moved on to the IB and the other is studying Film at Falmouth University, so I'm very aware of the tough choices and hard work facing students today and I'm there to provide both a strong level of academic support as well as listening and advising them.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring one-to-one for a number of years now for CET and Randstad, both in students homes and in secondary schools. I have also taught History and Politics at Abbey College in Cambridge for two and a half years. Each summer sees me teaching the Oxford Royale Academy 'Business & Enterprise' Course and indeed, I am also responsible for writing and updating the courses myself. I have considerable experience and knowledge of advising students and parents on their way through the UCAS process.

Tutoring Approach:

I seek to establish and identify the individual needs and characteristics of each student. I have a strong belief in the importance of inspiration in tutoring and feel that the role of the tutor is as much about building confidence as it is about reinforcing knowledge.
I tailor work to each student and have a full and comprehensive database of materials and information in all my subjects built up over a number of years and covering all exam boards.
