Personal Description:
Hi, I'm 29yrs old and am currently working in a primary school in Vauxhall, London. I moved to Winchester three years ago. I currently work in a year 6 class but have had experience with the whole age range 4-11yrs. I'm the Literacy co-ordinator in a 2 formentry primary school. We have a lot of EAL children so I'm experienced when working with children who are new to English. I'm a friendly, bubbly and enthusiatic teacher who really enjoys the job.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in London for the past 6 years. I am a Literacy co-orinator, lead teacher and have had experience teaching from 4-11yrs. Being a primary school teacher I have experience with all subjects across the curriculum.

Tutoring Approach:

When tutoring I try to make it practical and fun. I look at what the pupil struggles with and why they are struggling with it and then I try to overcome their issues. I try to make the learning as personal as possible.

Personal Description:
I am a Mathematics graduate from Cambridge University. After graduating, I worked in the IT industry, initially for a large corporation and then for an independent software house. I later formed my own company, specialising in developing applications for small- to medium-sized companies. I used the logical skills developed through studying Mathematics in my work as Business Analyst and Project Manager.
Since 2009, I have been tutoring Mathematics full-time. I also study extensively to keep up to date with the latest mathematical ideas and educational trends.
Outside work, my main interest is music, particularly singing. I belong to two choirs.

Teaching Experience:

In my IT work I developed and delivered training courses for both colleagues and customers. I also provided personal tuition in Mathematics for many years, both on a professional basis and also to friends. After leaving the IT world, I taught for eight months in an after-school academy in New Malden, preparing children for 11+ and Common Entrance.
In the four years that I have been tutoring Mathematics, I have taught the following to over 150 pupils on a one-to-one basis:
GCSE - Edexcel, AQA and iGCSE

A-Levels (AS/A2) - Edexcel, AQA and OCR:
Core
Mechanics
Statistics
Further Pure
Decision

International Baccalaureate (IB) - Standard and Higher

Undergraduate topics including:
Bayesian statistics
Complex variable
Cryptography
Laplace & Fourier transforms
Mechanics
Number theory
Optimisation
Ordinary and partial differential equations
Probability
Quantitative methods
Real analysis
Vectors and matrices
Vector calculus

My school pupils are drawn from a number of local schools including:
• Tiffin Boys and Girls
• ACS Cobham
• Teddington
• Esher College
• Kingston Grammar
• Hinchley Wood
• Hampton
• Epsom College
• Sutton Grammar
• Coombe
The majority of my university pupils attend Kingston University, or one of the University of London colleges, though many come for intensive lessons in the holidays from other universities to reinforce the topics they are learning, or to prepare for re-sits.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in tailoring the teaching approach to each student's needs and individual learning style. For adults, I work with them to develop a personalised programme to enable them to achieve their goals. For school children and university students, I discuss their aims with them - and with their parents, if required - to determine what topics need additional tuition and then to work out the appropriate programme. I advocate continuous assessment to measure the student's progress. Closer to exams, the pupils will work through old papers. At this stage, strategic choices may be made to focus on the pupils strengths.
I have great passion for and a deep knowledge of Mathematics. My aim is always to get my students to enjoy the subject. Most importantly, they are encouraged to gain confidence in their own abilities by building on what they feel comfortable with. I believe that the right teacher can undo wrong learning very quickly.
Lessons take place at my students' homes, or at my home in Kingston, where I have a quiet study. Assignments and homework are an integral part of my teaching: there can be no improvement without practice.

Personal Description:
I am a committed teacher who loves teaching across many areas. I enjoying injecting my creative streak into lessons. I have qualified teacher status and I teach in schools on a day to basis.

Teaching Experience:

I have 6 years teaching experience across many age ranges. I have recently undertaken Read, Write, Inc training - a programme geared towards developing readers and writers.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe children need to learn with a hands on approach, when they are doing they are learning.

Want to help your child move from a 2c to a 2b or a 1b to a 1a? Sometimes all it takes is a little bit of extra help that the teacher can't always give. Maybe your child is doing well in school and you feel they are restricted by the curriculum.

Lessons are tailored to each students needs, reading, numeracy and literacy are covered using structured schemes and fun activities. The lessons are not restricted by the curriculum so your child could be learning things they wouldn't learn until the next academic year or catching up on concepts not yet grasped. Homework can also be set.

I have recently begun writing guided reading books designed to improve writing by identifying and practising the core elements (Riley's Writers - available on Amazon) as well as creating resource games so children can practise key skills in a fun way that promotes repetition (essential for learning many aspects of literacy and numeracy).

All learning takes place in my home. Slots are available weekdays, evenings, weekends and school holidays. Sessions are 45 minutes long.

Personal Description:
Hello,

I am an open-minded, friendly tutor who is able to see things from different perspectives. I am not long out of university and very much understand what it's like to be a student and the processes and pressures that you need to go through.

I am passionate about my subjects and have studied and loved them all the way from GCSE to Masters level. I take joy in discussing and explaining them to others and have undertaken a wide range of historical and political studies. These include, but are not limited to:

- English history: 1485-1702
- The British Empire
- UK History: 1900-2013
- UK Politics: 1945-2013
- US History: 1776-2013
- US Politics: 1945-2013
- US Foreign Policy
- Germany: 1900-1945
- (Italian) Renaissance Wars 1494-1559
- General European History
- Middle Eastern History and Politics: 1900-2013
- Russian History and Politics: 1801-2013
- Chinese History: 1900-2013
- The First World War
- The Second World War
- The Cold War
- Intelligence networks
- EU History and Politics
- The current euro zone crisis (I wrote my Masters dissertation partly on this)
- Political Science concepts
- Political Philosophy

I have done a fair amount of travelling and have had some incredible experiences. I am a big fan of European languages and speak some Italian, German and French (as well as a bit of Russian).

Teaching Experience:

I have a considerable amount of experience tutoring both history & politics privately. I am comfortable teaching in person or across Skype.

I also have teaching experience in other areas such as music and sport. I attended Brighton Institute of Modern Music (BIMM) during my gap year to attain a music diploma and have taught guitar ever since. Additionally, I have taken a course to become a Level 1 tennis coach and as a result have worked alongside local tennis coaches to provide drills and technique improvement sessions.

Tutoring Approach:

As someone who has achieved high As in History at GCSE and A-level (A*s were not possible at A-level at this time), a 2:1 with numerous firsts at undergraduate and a merit average during my masters degree, I am fully aware of the means to achieve high grades. I am very friendly and understand that different students have different ambitions. I start any private tutoring with a conversation about what the student wishes to gain from the lessons. I am always careful to make sure the student is given help to the level they require so they can excel at their current qualification.

In the case of exams, my approach is largely syllabus and exam-technique focused. I will make sure the student does gain a comprehensive, confident understanding of the subject matter, but will want to pass on an in-depth knowledge of what the examiner is looking for. This approach is designed so that the student can best maximise their grades. I am able to help with providing a structured and planned approach if the student so desires.

However I am not a tick-box tutor who is not able to see the bigger picture. I am aware that a proper understanding of the subject is not only vital for overall development but also to achieve the necessary level of confidence a student needs to succeed. I only stress the importance of the syllabus and exam-technique because exams are (largely) grade-outcome orientated.

I look forward to tutoring you if you so wish! All the Best, Richard

Personal Description:
What makes my classes the best option to learn Russian?

- You will acquire Russian naturally in a fun and stress-free learning atmosphere.
- You will be learning with a native speaker.
- You will make progress every single lesson without exception! My lessons are result focussed and highly engaging.
- You will save time by learning from the most effective language acquisition techniques.
- You will have an online access to your individualised lessons materials via your personal Moodle account enabling you to learn anywhere anytime.
- You may choose to take classes according to your needs.
- No obligation initial consultation.

My classes are for

- Adults, Business and Travel
- Children of Russian heritage or working towards a qualification

My lessons for children are based around
- developing your child's speech, reading and writing,
- improving his comprehension
- building her Russian vocabulary to the "educated" standard,
- learning about Russian culture and history
- working on language intereferance and language code switching.
In my teaching children I use proven methods and stragegies developed in American and German schools specifically for biligual children, as well as materials created by a very talented Olga Soboleva.

Teaching Experience:

Teaching adults and children both at prep school and privately.

Tutoring Approach:

As Stephen Krashen puts it, "Simply being a native speaker of a language does not in of itself qualify one as a teacher of that language. Conscious and extensive knowledge of grammar does not make one a language teacher either. Rather, the defining characteristic of a good teacher is someone who can make input comprehensible to a non-native speaker, regardless of his or her level of competence in the target language."

Your primary goal as a student is to learn a language. In that regard my primary job as a tutor is to guarantee the effectiveness of your learning process in relation to your needs and expectations.

How do I achieve that? First and most importantly by combining the right set of tools in my teaching repertoire:

- TPRS - Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling - is at the core of my methodology.

Traditionally there has been a prejudiced view that only certain people can 'do' languages. That only smart students can become proficient and that only the really smart can move on to advanced study. TPRS has demonstrated that the vast majority of students can achieve high levels of success at all levels of foreign language study, and that acquiring a second language isn't nearly as difficult as we teachers sometimes make it. TPRS is making particular headway in language classrooms across the US and considerable research has been done and published on its efficacy.

TPRS works because it is brain-friendly and multi-sensory methodology, fitting the needs of various learning styles. Students develop a real "ear for the language," learning to listen and respond to what sounds right.

- Teaching grammar in meaningful context from day one
The focus is first and foremost on the message, with realistic expectations (level-appropriate) for grammatical accuracy. My philosophy is that of John DeMado: "Linguistic accuracy is a destination, not a point of departure." My way of teaching grammar is based on usefulness, frequency of use and level appropriateness.

- Tremendous amount of Comprehensible Input.

This approach supports the language acquisition theory by Stephen Krashen, who says: "We acquire language in only one way, when we understand messages, that is when we obtain comprehensible input."

- Reading as a major component of learning process.

In his book, The Power of Reading: Insights into the Research, 2nd edition, (p. 37) Stephen Krashen states, "Studies showing that reading enhances literacy development lead to what should be an uncontroversial conclusion: Reading is good for you. The research, however, supports a stronger conclusion: Reading is the only way we become good readers, develop good writing style, an adequate vocabulary, advanced grammatical competence, and the only way we become good spellers."

- Teaching Russian to heritage speakers as a language arts/social science.

Personal Description:
Hi there!

My name's Imdad, and I'm currently a Ph.D. student at Trinity College, Cambridge, studying Quantum Computing (Theoretical Physics). I completed my undergraduate degree also in Cambridge in 2012, gaining a First.

Since I was young, I've been fascinated by physics and maths, and I'd love to share my enthusiasm for those subjects with everyone!

Music is another big passion of mine, and I play quite a few instruments - French Horn, Piano, Recorder, Violin, Trumpet, mostly to Grade 8 level. In addition, I'm happy to teach Music Theory up to Grade 8 level. Music has been my biggest extra-curricular activity during my study at university, and I'm currently the President of the Cambridge University Symphony Orchestra.

I love computers and programming - I've been writing apps for smartphones! I've developed several websites.

I'm well known for the way I teach and get difficult ideas across to people - if you're stuck on Physics or Maths, you won't be much longer!

Teaching Experience:

I've been teaching for many years, both tutoring and teaching in classes. I have tutored students for 11+ exams, helped with GCSE and A Level work, and I currently have students whom I supervise for Mathematics and Physics university courses.

Tutoring Approach:

I pride myself on my ability to explain things in ways that help students grasp the underlying principles of the subject. In my experience, if these basics are understood, a good intuition for the rest of the subject develops very quickly and naturally. I find that GCSEs and A Levels focus much too strongly on teaching a few methods - and a lot of the time, the students find they have no true understanding of the subject, and I do my best to remedy this.

Personal Description:
I am currently in the final year of an Astrophysics PhD at UCL, which I began in 2010. Prior to this I obtained a first class MSci in Physics with Astrophysics at the University of Bristol. I hope to continue in an academic career when I complete my PhD, since I enjoy both teaching and research.

Teaching Experience:

I have two years of experience tutoring students ranging from year 9 up to university level. In addition, I have spent four semesters demonstrating in undergraduate Physics labs at UCL for one afternoon per week. I also have experience marking undergraduate problem sheets and exam papers, which helps me to advise students as to how they should approach their own exam preparation.

Tutoring Approach:

The ultimate goal of my previous students has been to achieve a certain exam grade or to pass an entrance exam. I think the key to preparing for exams in mathematical subjects is practice and so I aim to give students the confidence to answer questions on thier own. My approach to tutoring has therefore been to cover subject matter that the student is perhaps less confident with, before tackling exam-style questions in order to apply what they have learnt.

Personal Description:
I am French but lived most of my life in South America, so Spanish became my first language. I work currently as a Service Improvement Consultant, and before this I worked for the automotive industry (over 25 years). I have worked for a few months giving Spanish lessons to adults which I enjoyed very much but the franchise is closing so I would like to continue teaching Spanish.

Teaching Experience:

I worked for a University in South America, giving subjects as Management, Lean and Continuous Improvement, HR subjects amongst others and my students were under and post graduated students. I worked as a tutor for dissertations for both. I gave work experienceto under graduate students in small and médium sized enterprises and I realised that I miss very much this contact with students and I would love to work with students either teaching spanish or helping university students with any subjects related to Spanish.

Tutoring Approach:

I will always have a plan for clases but I like to challenge students and let them come out with their own ideas on:
- what is of their interest,
- what are their needs and
- what is the pace they want to follow in the learning process.

I would ask them to practice what was given in class and they would record their own learning and conversation and will share it in class.

I would do some review of what was learned in the previous lesson alongside their homework to re enforce the learning .

I can be demanding but more in the challenging way I mentioned before.

Students have expressed they like my approach and that they learned fast and easily.
