Personal Description:
From an early age I have been extremely enthusiastic about mathematics and since leaving education, and before I chose to pursue a career in education, I have been fascinated by learning and problem solving. I am currently a teacher in a new school in Hackney, East London. The college is for 14-18 year olds so I specialise in GCSE and A-Level maths teaching. We cater for a range of different backgrounds and abilities which requires the staff to have a wide ranging skill-set. I have previously taught for 5 full years, including 2 years at a 4-18 international school, and have 3 years teaching experience in the UK. My previous school was an independent international school. In all my years as a teacher I have taught GCSE classes and have come to have a sound knowledge of both AQA and Edexcel curriculums. I am also aware that GCSEs serve 2 purposes - one to gain a specific skill set and acquire subject knowledge, the other to achieve a prestigious and important qualification. I have worked in business for several years since completing a maths masters degree at Leeds University. As a relatively new teacher I have a fresh perspective on current barriers to learning and misconceptions within my chosen subject.

Teaching Experience:

1 year working in East London, 2 years overseas in the Dominican Republic (students are 95% native Spanish speakers), 3 years in England, 1 year PGCE training incorporating placements at 2 schools in Louth (North East Lincolnshire), trained at Lincoln BGUC. I am currently curriculum leader for maths at my college and have been acting head of department at my previous school.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the key to learning is presenting a new topic in a way that the learner can engage with best. I would aim to break a complex problem down into smaller more manageable parts. Maths is a subject where each new concept is just a collection of previously learnt skills or techniques used in a specific way. I would visit the house of the tutee under the supervision of a parent. Also, if acceptable, I would try to involve a parent in the tuition process so that they can work with the tutee at a later date, if they thought it would help. I am happy to set additional work to be finished between tuition sessions, if the parent and tutee consent to this. I aim to not only help the tutee in acquiring the grade they want but also to improve their confidence in maths and help inspire them to enjoy the subject more.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified, experienced and effective teacher and am passionate about helping all kinds of students with their learning. I try to make things as straightforward as possible, whether a target is a GCSE C grade, or an A* A-level.

I believe that teaching is based on a good rapport and feeling a sense of achievement in every session. Maths can be a confusing and difficult subject, but can also be very rewarding once understood. In tutoring I tailor my methods and approach to each individual student.

Teaching Experience:

I obtained my PGCE in 1994. After that I taught in schools, colleges and privately for many years. I have worked in mainstream secondary schools and also in Further Education. I have also done 1-1 outreach tutoring with Oxfordshire County Council. I have taught all ages and abilities and found this hugely rewarding.

I'm currently a part-time teacher in an Oxford College. I do my 1-1 tutoring alongside this. I advertise exclusively on UK Tutors and only take on a small number of tutees at any one time.

Tutoring Approach:

The first session is an assessment to find out strengths and weaknesses, and discuss realistic targets.

Teaching is usually offered on an ongoing weekly basis. It also involves a commitment to independent practice and study regularly between sessions. The more you do this the better the results will be.

My overall approach is student-centred, supportive and structured.

Personal Description:
I first became interested in teaching through working as a private tutor with GCSE students, something I am doing since I finished my graduation, training to become a leader in the process. This made me realise I enjoyed working with the people in their learning process, and college experience confirmed tutoring/teaching as a career choice. My subsequent one year PGCE has served further to fire my enthusiasm and prepared me effectively to take responsibility for learners.

I have completed PGCE , a Masters and a BSc in Economics, level 5 Mathematics in Mechanics, numeracy level 1 & 2, Diploma in Computer Science & Application and I am a Certified Internet Webmaster Associate.

Teaching Experience:

I am teaching for last 5 years. In addition, I worked as a Teaching Assistant over two years.I have been privately tutoring primary and secondary maths, A level maths and Economics on one-to-one basis since 2003. My academic education and teaching practices have given me a good understanding of the curriculum and of what makes effective teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

I make a conscious effort to ensure I am not just catering for visual learners like myself, but try to see lessons through other learners' eyes. For example, to introduce pictograms to numeracy entry level class, I got the learners to create 'human pictograms' arranged by name length, pets, eye colour, etc. and then transferred that information as pictograms to the board. Kinaesthetic learners were thereby catered for in the physical movement and manipulation, visual learners in the pictograms created on the board and audio learners as we discussed and interpreted the graphs.

I have in particular come to understand the value of sharing learning objectives and success criteria with students. Knowing exactly what is expected and how they can achieve allow learners to focus more clearly on tasks.

I feel it is important to make learning interesting and creative, and one way to achieve this is using real life example; this allows learners to explore and understand situations and express feelings, thoughts and emotions. An example of how I have successfully used real life situation was with a GCSE class, working out the area of the classroom to decide the correct amount of carpet needed for the classroom. I gave the students measuring tape to measure the length and width of the classroom. They were incredibly enthusiastic and threw themselves into the task. They found this a fun, enjoyable and worthwhile learning experience, which enabled them to better understand the situation and empathise with those concerned.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate with a first class degree in Physics from Oxford University. I tutor Maths, Further Maths and Physics, at my home or online. I tutor because I love teaching, helping students to develop their skills and confidence. Maths and physics are fascinating subjects with vital real-world applications; it's very rewarding to guide students in developing the tools they need to succeed. I bring to tutoring an in-depth understanding of maths and physics, knowledge of the research on effective teaching, the creativity to develop exciting lessons, and the flexibility to match each individual's goals and learning style.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored students in A level maths, further maths and A level physics. I have wide experience teaching and working with young people. While at university I volunteered for two years as a session leader for the charity KEEN, running weekly arts and drama sessions for children with special needs. I am a qualified sailing instructor and have spent three months teaching sailing (to groups of young people aged 8 to 17): in this job I was also responsible for safety procedures on the water. I have volunteered with the tutoring charity Jacari, teaching reading to a primary school pupil who had English as a second language.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutorials are interactive and personalised. Together, my students and I identify their goals and the areas where they need the most help, for example exam technique, confidence-building, filling in knowledge gaps, or taking a back-to-basics approach.

In my tutorials, students use the latest technology to enhance their understanding, such as interactive models of molecules in a gas, or online graph-drawing programs. Many students benefit from a hands-on approach; a simple example is weighing and measuring objects to develop concepts of volume and density. All work is tailored to fit the syllabus that the student is following at school. For those with exams approaching, I include plenty of practice with past exam paper questions, so students feel comfortable with the style and format of the questions.

I base my approach on academic research findings on the most effective teaching methods. Individual tutoring allows me to match my teaching techniques to each student's personal learning style. I encourage my students to talk through their working: it helps them cement their understanding and develop their technical vocabulary, and meanwhile enables me to hone in on misconceptions and closely monitor their progress.

Comments from students:

From John:
"I've had several Mandarin lessons with Wei so far, and have always found her to be very professional, friendly and well organised. She has a flexible approach to learning, tailoring the lessons to meet my needs and requirements. The lessons are informative, relaxed and fun.

Highly recommended.

John"

Comment from Corinna "Da jia hao" As a senior pupil of Madras College studying Mandarin, Dawson and Wei have been very helpful in increasing my confidence with certain aspects of the language, especially pronunciation; finding examples of common English 'sounds' that I could relate to and even recording audio files for me to listen to at home. It was great to be able to go though any difficulties I was having at my own pace instead of competing with my classmates and they were both very patient and friendly, my weekend tutorials with them have been most useful.

Comment from Kenneth "Wei gave me several fun and informal lessons, which were exactly the sort of practice I needed before heading off to China.
With each class she provided more in-depth and involved content than that which I was studying on my own from a textbook. She was also able to give clear answers to any questions I had which helped me to understand points in the language I had been struggling with.
As she is from TianJin her Chinese accent is as close to standard PuTongHua as you can get. I would recommend her as a teacher to anyone."

Maths:
I am very passionate and enthusiastic in helping students to understand and discover Maths as an interesting and easy subject. I ensure my tutoring improves my student's grade and confidence to achieve most success and best possible results in exams. Their achievements are my goal and priority. Personal Description:
Hello,
My name is Emma and I'm currently at law school in London training and studying to become a solicitor.
I am 21 years old but very hard working. I understand how hard studying can be but I am prepared to help whoever may need my help. My specialist areas are business studies as that was my undergraduate degree, French and Maths.
I am very approachable, patient woman and have lots of fun and challenging learning techniques to help your child tackle those harder problems at school.
I am based in Guildford in Surrey so I can come to your house as I can drive. Before we start tutoring I like to have a little discussion with you and your child in order to establish which learning techniques will best suit your child as well as learn a little bit about you and give you time to learn about me.

Teaching Experience:

This will be my first tutoring job on a one on one basis; however I've taught English in Tanzania when I went lived there and have taught larger classes in England.
I am a very studious woman and love to study. At university I coached two sports teams, four times a week so I understand the commitment and dedication that is required to teach. I also mentored new international students at university helping them settle into their new lives at university and to help with any course problems they had so I have developed good communication techniques.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very patient when I teach as I understand that not everyone will understand something the first time they hear it. I personally am a visual learner. By this I mean flashcards, coloured pens and any way that I find that visually I will be able to remember a concept. For example, when I was learning the countries in French, I created a world map and had the countries in French on a card and then would stick them on the map where I thought the French word matched the country and I also did the same for the human body. I am very happy to use these tools to help your child learn and it also helps to make the session fun!

Personal Description:
I have a BA Honours Degree in English Studies from Aleppo University in Syria in 2000. I embarked on two Postgraduate Diplomas at Aleppo University one in Linguistics (2002); the other in Education and Qualification in 2003. In both of these Diplomas I was awarded a Distinction. In 2002, I was fortunate in gaining a scholarship to study in the UK and was nominated to study in the department of Language and Linguistics at the University of Essex. I found this course to be immensely useful to me as a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) professional as I was able to observe a range of different EAP (English for Academic Purposes)classrooms; make academic presentations and really developed my love of scholarship which fired me with the enthusiasm to read for a PhD degree. I finished my doctorate in TESOL at the University of Ulster entitled "EAP Teachers Approaches to Giving Written Feedback on Academic Writing in British and Syrian ELT Centres". . I am extremely interested in teaching the language skills (as my recent doctorate shows). I am extremely hard working and sociable. I have good comparative knowledge of Western and Islamic societies which I could share with students where pertinent. I also have two qualifications from Ulster University in Peer Mentoring and Counselling.

I have strong interpersonal, communication, and classroom management skills and self-motivator. Apart from being an interesting experience in itself, tutoring is an ideal opportunity for me at this stage of my career as the area of this job is interesting to me and I have got the enthusiasm and motivation and energy to do it well and to develop things.I would like consider offering online tutorials (email writing tutorials for students who can not attend some classes).

Teaching Experience:

In the Diploma of Education and Qualification, I have been trained how to teach and how to deliver lectures in Arabic and English and also how to prepare lesson plan. I have experience of teaching university students in Syria as I was a lecturer at Aleppo University from 2002 to 2013. I enjoy teaching and lecturing and love my profession as I am particularly interested in communicating with individuals and groups. My colleagues and supervisors all say that I am a natural communicator and this, coupled with my knowledge of the field, leads me to think that I would make a good teacher. My mother tongue language is Arabic, yet my knowledge of written and spoken English is very good as well. I am also interested in materials design and curriculum development in ELT and could make useful contributions in these areas. I have also specialized in ESP, Materials and Methods in ELT, Language Teachers in Classrooms and Vocabulary and would be interested in teaching international students. My job in Syria was delivering pre-sessional programmes in academic English language to Syrian postgraduate students. Those students have to attend some EAP and ESP courses and pass the final exam which will enable them to pursue their high studies in Syria or in some English speaking countries like UK, USA and Canada. My teaching experience gives me a deeper insight and understanding of actual teaching/learning contexts. When I did my MA degree at Essex University, I taught some international students as part of the "Teaching Practice" module. I have been trained how to write a lesson plan for international students and how to use the PowerPoint for delivering lectures. Furthermore, I am very au fait with technology in the classroom.

Tutoring Approach:

It is the application of an integrating approach for the development of communicative skills in the lesson, in which the four skills in the acquisition of knowledge of a foreign language can be taught in a coherent way, and practiced together, with a distinction of the importance of one upon the other. One image for teaching English as a second or foreign language (ESL/EFL) is that of a tapestry. The tapestry is woven from many strands, such as the characteristics of the teacher, the learner, the setting, and the relevant languages (i.e., English and the native languages of the learners and the teacher). For the instructional loom to produce a large, strong, beautiful, colorful tapestry, all of these strands must be interwoven in positive ways. For example, the instructor's teaching style must address the learning style of the learner, the learner must be motivated, and the setting must provide resources and values that strongly support the teaching of the language. However, if the strands are not woven together effectively, the instructional loom is likely to produce something small, weak, ragged, and pale--not recognizable as a tapestry at all.

Personal Description:
I am a motivated academic tutor, teaching advanced computing, wireless communication, networking, and data communication materials for different levels. Lecturing is my passion and I would love to share the knowledge I have with people who are seeking to achieve high qualifications. Also, I have the ability to teach in Arabic language as a plus, as it is my native.

Teaching Experience:

I have more than five years teaching experience in teaching BSc and MSc students, supervising MSc and BSc projects, leading workshops and lecturing at Universities. Currently, I work as a research associate in a University, including teaching assistance and supervising students. I have a very good experience in teaching programming languages such as: C++, C, Java, Python, and Bash for Linux. Able to guide for academic course works such as Object Oriented designs.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach in teaching is to show ease of the subjects taught by delivering the basics to the students first, in order to make sure the student is ready to go ahead. I am patient and can adapt different approaches based on the students' learning style.
