Personal Description:
I moved to Sheffield from Bristol in 2002 to begin my undergraduate degree at the University of Sheffield. I am currently nearly halfway through a PhD in contemporary literature.

I live in Nether Edge and would need to discuss travel arrangements for students living outside the S7, S10 and S11 areas.

Teaching Experience:

My main area of teaching experience has been at the University, where I taught first-year undergraduates a wide range of texts from Renaissance drama to contemporary poetry in the autumn term 08/09. I have also particpated in a teaching practice course run by faculty members in the Department of English Literature, as well as a conference at the University of York on teaching literature and a peer mentoring scheme in conjunction with other postgraduates in the Department.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a flexible, student-centred approach to one-on-one tutoring. I only offer tutoring in the subject that I am qualified in to higher degree level, and I can also provide information on studying English at University, including UCAS personal statement and interview advice.

Communication between the tutor and the student is essential for a succesful relationship. Before an initial meeting, I would like to know which texts the student is currently working on and their expectations from the tutoring relationship. Private tuition does not guarantee exam grades and my primary aim in offering tuition is to help in fostering an understanding and appreciation of literature that should lead to increased enthusiasm for the subject!

Personal Description:
I am currently studying for my A-Levels at a grammar school in Buckinghamshire. I would love to offer a helping hand in maths from primary through to GCSE level. I will be studying History and Politics at Oxford University next year.

I am heavily involved at school and am Deputy Head of Student Welfare which involves running the Student Mentoring system. In my own time I do Duke of Edinburgh, help at my local youth club and play the violin and piano.

Teaching Experience:

I tutor on a regular basis, which I fine enjoyable and love the challenge.

I have tutored a Year 8 and a Year 7 student for several months at school. I have recently started to teach a Year 12 politics student.

My most enjoyable experience has been taking a maths class on a trip to Mvumi school in Tanzania. I couldn't speak the language but found that maths is universal! However, the most challenge teaching experience was teaching French to a Primary school class.

Tutoring Approach:

Whether you need a little extra help on your homework or need help to pass an exam then I am available. Furthermore, if you are at the other extreme and find yourself bored in lessons I can teach you beyond the curriculum and focus on areas you find interesting.

Personal Description:
I am a 24 year old English post-graduate student living in central London, studying to become a solicitor. I previously studied a BA (Hons) in French at Newcastle University, before moving to London. I am also a keen and active musician.

Teaching Experience:

I spent a year teaching English in a secondary school in France, during the 3rd year of my university course, where I taught both small groups of 3 or 4 students, and large classes of up to 32.

I gained experience in teaching pupils of all different standards, and was able to develop a variety of different lesson structures and teaching styles.

I was given training for this by both my university and by the British Council in Lille.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to bring a friendly and enthusiastic approach to tutoring, whilst adapting and tailoring my methods to suit the tutee's specific needs.

I make my lessons interesting and enjoyable, as I know well from experience that this is the best atmosphere in which to learn.

Teaching Experience:

I worked as a FLA in Bristol (Henbuey School) and as a English teacher (supply) in FRance (from yr 8 to 11)

Personal Description:
I am recent graduate of The University of Newcastle upon Tyne with a 1st Class degree in Politics and am now at King's College London studying towards a Master's degree in International Relations. During my studies I won a scholarship to study in the United States for a semester, spent extended periods working with special educational needs children in the Newcastle upon Tyne area, and was the Newcastle Brand Manager for the prestigious teaching charity 'Teach First'.

I seek the opportunity to use the knowledge I have gained from the above to tutor an enthusiastic individual, who is looking to attain the highest levels of achievement in his/her Government Politics or History GCSE/A-Level examinations. Having studied these subjects at school myself, and in light of the recent introduction at A-Level of the A* grade, I know it to be of vital importance for a student to extend his/her understanding to a deeper level; the problem, however, is that in-school class discussion rarely even scratches the surface of what are complex, nuanced topics of study. I can provide this depth.

Furthermore, if a student is interested in applying for Oxbridge I know it to be essential that the student posses a wide range of philosophical, political, and historical knowledge when applying, both for the entrance exams and the interviews. As a successful applicant to Cambridge University for an MPhil in Politics I will thus also able to demonstrate to the tutee how what I am covering can be applied to the Oxbridge application process.

Finally, I would like to highlight my memberships of various think tanks in London. I am a particular active member of the Adam Smith Institute, Chatham House - The Royal Institute of International Affairs, and RUSI.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a student teacher for students with severe behavioural and learning difficulties, and my experience with children and young adults of this grouping extends to the informal setting with my time running extended summer camp sessions for them. In instructing and tutoring these adolescents from the ages of 11-16 I developed and practiced instructional strategies to maintain student interest and accommodate individual learning styles. I also proactively planned and carried out lessons in subjects across the curriculum.

I have also tutored History and Politics at A-Level, but mostly the sons or daughters of friends or family. Moreover, my sixth form has had me back to conduct an A-Level class in Government and Politics.

As the Brand Manager for the teaching charity 'Teach First' whilst at Newcastle University I am also highly familiar with the curricula developments in secondary and post-secondary education.

Tutoring Approach:

First foundation, then extension.

I like to tutor to my student's needs and believe it extremely important that the tutee provide me with his/her curriculum, teacher reports, previous essays, and personal attainment goals; as without this communication it is unlikely that I will be able to provide the most applicable and appropriate tuition to the student. This is the foundation. In providing me with a comprehension of the current level of my tutee I can first make sure that he/she is properly prepared for his examinations.

However, I believe also that I should be able to go beyond the tutee's school curriculum, for this allows me to impart upon the student an understanding of Politics or History that he/she will not be pushed to grasped in the classroom setting at A-Level. This is extension. To attain the highest level in these subjects requires a nuanced and deep understanding of highly complex issues and theories that have shaped our world today. What is more, this understanding often comes via a route of reflection and then discussion. However, as I have personally experienced, a classroom environment rarely goes deep enough. My tuition can. To impart the depth of my 1st class degree to the student I work through a number of the key theories and concepts that have affected the course of History and impacted the Government and Politics of today. By taking this thematic approach an extension can be provided to the student's comprehension of any topic within these two subjects. For example, a theoretical grasp of Marxism will allow the student to apply a Marxist lens to his/her essay on virtually any topic in History or Government and Politics. Such a lens is the difference between "covering all the bases" and the very top level of understanding and achievement.

Personal Description:
I am a Senior Software Engineer working for one of the largest software services company.
I am currently working for a software project with RBS.

I have completed my engineering in Computers.
I have a strong analytical mind. I am good at numbers.

Teaching is one of my closest passions and I would love to extend my services.

Teaching Experience:

I have being teaching Maths and Science (up to Graduation level) in my spare time for the last 16 years.
I have also taught to a group of children in a school (for charity).

I think I have the aptitude, skills and personality to teach students and take them to a higher level.

Tutoring Approach:

We all are different. Different children follow different learning curve.
Normally in schools, children are being treated with the same yardstick which is not correct.

I try to understand the grasping power of the children and adapt the techniques accordingly.

I strongly believe that the attitude and enthusiasm for a subject is the key to success. It is important not to focus solely on exams and to develop knowledge for personal development and improvement.

I have got both the experience - industry experience and teaching experience.
So, I can easily connect with the practical usage of the topic I am teaching.

My pedagogy is more practical.
I also try to put an element of humour in my teaching, which makes my technique different from others.
