Personal Description:
I am an energetic and experienced English teacher and Assistant Head who strongly believes in building relationships with students that support their learning. I love travelling, literature (both classic and contemporary) and sports (especially football, rugby and cricket). Whatever level your daughter or son is at, I will make sure they progress to the next stage, whether that is excellent GCSE results, A Level results or entry to University.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently Assistant Head Teacher at Stoke College, near Sudbury, and have been teaching English for ten years. I have long experience in teaching and tutoring for students in Years 7-13, usually teaching AQA English Language and Literature GCSEs and OCR A Level. I have tutored students sitting different exam boards with great success, too. I began my teaching career at The Ashcombe School in Dorking, Surrey, before spending two years at Tiffin Girls' School, then the top ranked state school in the country, as Head of English. I have taught many students through to Oxford and Cambridge University entrance. I have taught Media Studies at A Level and my degree is Joint Honours History with English, so am always on hand to help with History or similar work.

Tutoring Approach:

I can give your child the support they need to build their confidence so they feel more able to complete school tasks, homework, coursework and exam revision. At exam level, I build on school work, revising techniques and consolidating the skills and topics learned so that students can reach their full potential in external exams. At the highest level, I will guide your son or daughter through textual annotations and literary study.

For students in Years 7-9, I have found it is often just as helpful to be able to assist and tutors in your son or daughter's full range of subjects, especially those that rely on written work, such as History, Geography and RE.

I bring an innovative and personalised approach to tutoring so your child never needs to feel that tutoring sessions are an extension of school; instead they are a way to look at English in a positive light so tutees can enjoy learning.

Personal Description:
I studied Classics at King's College, Cambridge, graduating in 2009. I then trained as a teacher at Queens' College, Cambridge, graduating with a PGCE in 2010. I have been a private tutor since 2009, and have now clocked up thousands of hours' tutoring experience in Latin and Ancient Greek. I tutor both languages to degree-level standard in London, Cambridge and online. I love Classics, and my main aim is to make my lessons fun and inspirational.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring Latin and Ancient Greek intensively for the past 7 years, with thousands of hours' teaching experience to date. I have taught towards all major public exams in both languages, such as Common Entrance, GCSE, AS, A2, SAT, Pre-U and even BA (i.e. University exams). I am familiar with the entrance processes for a number of independent and grammar schools, and have had a lot of experience teaching towards scholarship papers. I have tutored many students applying to Cambridge and Oxford, and can provide in-depth advice and support with choosing the right course and college, as well as getting to the necessary level for the language tests. I have also taught the languages to those who have decided to learn them purely for fun! In addition to my face-to-face teaching, I have taught extensively online (about 50% of my teaching is conducted on Skype), and have built up an array of handy techniques to get the most from the online format. I was Head of Latin at a school in Bury St Edmunds for two years (September 2011 to July 2013). Since October 2010, I have been supervising Cambridge undergraduates in Latin and Ancient Greek (colleges so far have included Pembroke, Downing, Homerton, Queens', King's, Murray Edwards, Newnham, Caius, Peterhouse, St John's, Emmanuel and Trinity). I also own and run a private tuition agency, Titanium Tutors, which I set up in 2011, managing a team of 8 staff members and over 1000 inspirational tutors.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching style is structured and thorough. I start every lesson with a five minute recap of the key content of the previous session, checking how much the tutee remembers. A typical lesson will then consist of a translation, in which I ask the tutee to note down each unknown word as it is encountered and to devise a memory trick which will help them to recall the word in a five minute test at the end of the lesson. Together with the tutee, I will then pick a grammar point which stood out in the translation exercise as requiring the most immediate attention. We will spend five to ten minutes working on that, with the tutee's understanding tested with some reinforcement exercises. At the end of the lesson we will recap all the new vocabulary and grammar which was covered, and I will typically set a manageable 20 - 30 minute homework for the next session based on what was covered in the lesson. Every lesson is of course different, and tailored to the tutee's requirements, but I find this approach works in the vast majority of cases. I consider grammar to be crucially important, but treat it as a means to an end and always emphasise the ways in which it can be usefully applied to translation rather than learned in isolation. I believe that any tutee can excel in Latin and Greek with a little guidance and a decent amount of independent work. Above all, I strive to make my lessons fun and enjoyable. I love my subject and want all of my tutees to love it too.

Personal Description:
I'm a graduate-entry third year medical student at Imperial College London. I graduated from the University of Sheffield with an upper second class honours degree in Biomedical Sciences in 2012. In between my two degrees I worked as a Medical Assistant in Paediatrics A&E at St George's Hospital, I admire the energy that young people have and found working with children so rewarding. My education and work life has equipped me with solid communication skills, and the ability to work with a vast range of people. Pursuing a path in science has required a lot of motivation, whilst studying for my degrees I consider that my organisational and time-keeping skills have been vital. Despite my background in science I have always maintained a creative side too, and have a keen interest in literature and the arts.

Teaching Experience:

Taking part in numerous voluntary projects has given me a lot of opportunity to teach, both one-to-one and in group scenarios. Whilst volunteering at my local hospital I helped on the children's ward to ensure the patients were not missing out on their education. This included helping children of all ages with their coursework and school syllabus'. I took part in a project based in South Africa teaching at an orphanage, this was a challenge due to the limited resources available, and a language barrier. However, using innovative ways as a team we were able to conduct lessons teaching English, Numeracy and Music that were accessible and enjoyable for the children. During my university career I have completed assignments presenting my own research or ideas to groups of students and tutors, this required explaining concepts in a clear and concise manner. Over the past two years I have tutored several students privately. I have found this experience rewarding and am very proud of their achievements.

Tutoring Approach:

I am always keen to share my enthusiasm in the subject that I am teaching. I am aware of the importance of maintaining a student's interest in the subject. In order to do this, I believe it is vital to assess each student's style and tailor my teaching towards their individual needs. I am very patient, and am happy to explain concepts in numerous different ways to ensure that a student is comfortable. I approach work in a professional manner, and appreciate the importance of time-keeping and dependability.

Personal Description:
Hello. My name is Carol and I'm a transplanted American. I've lived in the UK for over 10 years and I absolutely love it. My daughter Grace lives in Edinburgh with her husband and wee baby boy. And my son Elijah is 24 and lives here in London, studying fashion at Royal College of Art.

I love to cook and entertain friends. I go to the cinema a lot with my son or with friends and I try to get to the theatre at least four or five times a year. I cycle everywhere, and making things look homely and inviting brings me great joy. I read a great variety of things and watch fascinating documentaries. And if I could, I'd travel the world continuously to soak in all the amazing cultures and languages and traditions of the world.

I currently tutor English to students from a variety of countries and language backgrounds.

Teaching Experience:

I homeschooled both my children for fourteen years total. If success is measured by the outcome, my children are proof of my tutoring ability. Grace went on to graduate from University of Edinburgh with a 4 year degree in English Literature and History. Elijah graduated from Northampton University with a First in Fashion Design and is now a graduate student at Royal College of Arts. I tutored every subject to them, and also taught group tutoring sessions in Geography, Earth Science and History.
When my children went on higher education, I retrained as a TESOL teacher, the highest level to teach English as a Foreign Language. I've worked in English schools here in London and taught to the FCE exam as well as privately tutoring English to businessmen and woman from around the world.
I've been teaching now for 22 years, mostly tutoring one-on-one.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that everyone has the capacity to learn anything if it's taught to their learning style and consciousness. None of us sees things the same way....and none of us can absorb things by the same method as another person. It's crucial to understand a person's 'grid', or the way they learn. That only comes from observed feedback: that's when someone who is learning something new digests it and then gives it back in some way (an essay, a written assignment, or a verbal recounting) to show understanding. I call that 'the lightbulb moment'.

I also think that being relaxed and having fun while learning is so important. Good humour is a key to learning. When we are enjoying the company and the environment, our sensors are up and our receptors are open! It's a refreshing and invigorating experience, not a draining one.

The relationship between the tutor and student needs to be safe. It should feel like a safe place to make mistakes or to say, 'I don't understand.' Or to feel very, very excited about understanding something for the first time without being made to feel like 'it's about time.'

I believe in academic success, measured by passing tests, but not limited by them.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly, qualified and experienced teacher. I am a native German. I moved to the UK in 1991 just after meeting my future husband. We have three grown-up children, and education and parenthood have been very much part of our lives for many years.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked in secondary schools and colleges in the UK for over 15 years as a German teacher and Head of German. I have conducted GCSE and A-level oral exams for the WJEC examination board, written several syllabuses for German GCSE and A-level groups and organised pupil exchange visits over 6 years. The academic work and pastoral care at the school I worked at was rated "excellent" by Estyn. At present, I am working at home with pupils who are eager to improve their grades at Key stage 3, GCSE and A-level, with adults who are relocating to Germany, and with architects, employees in the car industry and Financial advisers (Business German) who have business relations with Germany. I also teach children at primary level, who have moved to Britain from Germany and are keen to practise German with games, stories, songs and puppet theatre.

Tutoring Approach:

Language tuition has been my passion for a long time and allows me to be supportive and creative, motivating pupils and believing in their abilities. One-to-one tuition is very productive, because it adapts to the individual learner's needs easily. My experience in schools and with exams has given me the knowledge of standards required for GCSE and A-level exams, and many pupils have commented on how much improvement they have seen in their school work, and in their confidence, as a result of our lessons. My aim is to make language learning enjoyable, and therefore I always encourage a warm and relaxed atmosphere for lessons. My lessons are structured, integrating all four language skills speaking, listening, reading and writing, and also include grammar, pronunciation, games, video clips, and lots of authentic material and cultural knowledge.

I am currently a Nursing student in my 2nd year of study. I finished my A Levels in 2013 and spent two years working in a supermarket and Science Lab.
I play team sports when I am also in charge of charity work and a qualified first aider.

Teaching Experience:

I previously tutored science up to GCSE level while studying for my A Level examinations. Then after finishing school tutored many other core subjects at varying standards.
When coming to university I continued tutoring maths and basic study skills

Tutoring Approach:

I believe tutoring should be individualised to the student and will take the time to adapt to their needs. I believe the best way to learn is to do and that everyone can learn when they feel confident.

Personal Description:
I am a recent Masters graduate from the London School of Economics. Having spent the last 5 years in higher education, I feel I have the right skills and knowledge to tutor students from all ages. I have been tutoring various 11+, GCSE, and A-Level students for the past 10 years, as well as running various economics workshops for the LSE. The mixture of interaction and application I employ throughout all my tutoring sessions ensure students enjoy and get a great deal from my lessons.

Teaching Experience:

Taught economics workshops at the LSE to over 120 GCSE students.
Taught maths workshops to both GCSE and A-Level students. Most students I teach jump up at least 2 grades within a year.
Having successfully undertaken the 11+ entrance exams, and in doing so studied at one of the most renown grammar schools in London, I have taught many prospective students the tools to pass these rigorous exams.

Tutoring Approach:

Fun and interactive, with a strong desire to make sure the students fully understand the material. Where I believe I differentiate myself from other tutors is my ability to adapt to each student. This ensures each student has their own independent, unique class. No two students are the same, so why should the lessons be?
