Personal Description:
I am a far-travelled German, who is able to bring together theory and practice. Learning can be just called learning if it has use in our lives and is not just accumulated book knowledge.
I am friendly and patient. I can plan projects very detailed and but also execute them under high pressure and with limited facilities.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked and lived with mentally challenged youngsters in Estonia for one year, teaching them the simplest things one could imagine. From this time I have learned that trying different approaches and being patient leads most often to success stories.
I recently taught Maths (e.g. as riddles or homework help) and puzzles in a children's home in Kenya. I have hold as well seminars for adults in rural Kenya.
I used to teach occasionally German to interested individuals.

Tutoring Approach:

German: I will use the two streams of casual language and of formal language to offer a practice orientated learning. If the pupil / student has no own material (e.g. from school) which should be used to improve grades, I will use the excellent material provided by the German BBC-equivalent Deutsche Welle.

Geography / Politics: I am very able to break complex topics down to a very understandable level. I will combine theory with actual examples from the real life. As I am myself a student of Geopolitics and International Relations, I will try to prepare the older student for university entrance.

Personal Description:
I am a mother of 3 children aged 5, 3 and 1 and a stepmother to a 14 year old, who also lives with me.

I completed my Maths degree at Manchester University 10 years ago and have recently completed my teacher training.

Teaching Experience:

I have spent the past year working in two schools in Stoke-on-Trent, during which time I have taught Maths lessons to children from year 7 to year 11.

My stepson is about to start his GCSEs and was not a very confident mathematician, however I have been helping him to understand mathematics and he is now doing well in maths at school.

Tutoring Approach:

I will come to speak to your child and yourself, and would like to see some of their school work so that I can see what level they are working at.

I will discuss with you and your child what you think they need to work on; this may be particular topics, you may prefer to work alongside the work being taught at school, or you may want to work on maths in general.

I like to try to rotate interactive methods of teaching with textbook questions and answers as I find this keeps children more interested and motivated than writing all the time, which in turn increases their learning.

Personal Description:
I am a student at Oxford University currently studying for an MMath in Mathematics.

Teaching Experience:

I have organised and ran tutorial sessions for GCSE and A-Level Maths students whilst studying for my own A-Levels. 95% of the GCSE tutorial gained at least one grade higher than were predicted.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a patient and considerate tutor who aims push students to their full potential regardless of ability. I make sure that work done is thorough and watertight, and that tutees can see why what they are writing makes sense, rather than simply getting to the right answer.

Personal Description:
I am currently a year 13 student at City of London School for Girls, studying A2 level Maths, Biology and Chemistry.

Teaching Experience:

At the age of 13, I tutored a 10 year old boy for 6 months, helping him with preparations for his 11+ entrance exams, which he later went on to pass.
Last year I again tutored a 10 year old boy for secondary school entrance exams and I am currently tutoring a girl in year 5 for her secondary school entrance exams.
Also, having younger siblings, I find myself helping them with their homework often as well as occasionally teaching them new material.

Tutoring Approach:

Having received a great amount of out-of-school tutoring sessions from the age of 9 I believe I have an excellent understanding of what they must be like in order to be effective. I feel the key to grasping new concepts and building on what is learnt at school or even homework queries is good, clear explanations and if the problem is still unclear then the topic must be approached in a new way. I feel patient, active learning is also very important in keeping the student focused.

Personal Description:
I am 23 years old and I hold excellent GCSEs and A-levels (focused predominantly on Science and Humanities), a 1st class honours degree in Biological Sciences from the UEA and I am currently training to be a doctor in the Swansea/Cardiff partnership. I am the appointed Medical President at Swansea and sit on numerous academic committees and boards. I am focused on developing my research skills and I have one publication to date, but I'm currently working on others.

Teaching Experience:

I enjoy tutoring and feel that at 23 years old I am not intimidating or too 'teacher-like', but instead I act more as a mentor, so I can interact on an equal level with my students and engage them to become enthusiastic about science and succeed in their goals.

Alongside tutoring, I am also able to help students on coursework projects/dissertations by offering advice, guidance, proof-reading, and editing. I will also consider any other tutoring tasks, such as preparing students for medical entry examinations (including UKCAT, GAMSAT etc).

Tutoring Approach:

I am able to tutor biology students from GCSE through to degree level and all other science students to GCSE level. My approach to teaching is curricula-specific and learning will be broken down into manageable chunks and made digestible. My methods will aim to make learning enjoyable for my students, in a relaxed but studious atmosphere and my tutees will find me to be friendly, approachable and patient throughout their support. I live in Swansea, but I have flexible study commitments and therefore I can travel to sessions or deliver them from my home. I will supply all of the learning material required and monitor my students' progress in order to give them constructive feedback throughout.

Personal Description:
My name is Christopher, I am 25 years old and have studied in Liverpool, UK, Provence, France and Cologne, Germany. I am a keen cricket player and enjoy using ICT in my teaching. Throughout my university education I have studied elements of business and law in all 3 languages, alongside literature and civilisation. I am currently looking to start an MA in teaching and learning.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a private tutor for 8 years teaching, English, Maths, ICT and French all at primary level; with French and German both up to A-Level.

I have also completed a PGCE in secondary French and German and taught in two secondary schools on the Wirral, Cheshire.

I have TESOL experience and completed a number of summer schools teaching English to French speakers.

I am currently (since Sept 08) an MFL secondary teacher in a school in Walsall, just outside Birmingham. Within the school I am an ICT specialist, working as Lead VLE Practitioner, implementing the school VLE. I have worked within the pastoral team of Y7 as Deputy Head of Year and now am working as an AST (Advanced Skills Teacher) encompassing work in primary transition and setting up links with local primaries for primary languages. I have also created links with German partner schools and am looking forward to develop these links further.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a laid back, fun approach to tutoring and I firmly believe developing a good rapport with tutees and parents helps identify pupils' needs as well as improving strengths. I like to use ICT to engage and motivate pupils and I inform parents of possible learning strategies to work on in between sessions. A major aspect of my tutoring is improving confidence.

Personal Description:
I am primary school teacher and mother who believes every child can achieve a great deal. I know how hard it can be for some children to reach their full potential in a full and busy classroom at school. I have started home tutoring to enable children develop their confidence so that they can feel good about their achievements. Most children have times when they need a little extra boost. I prefer to tutor in my home, where all my resources are at hand. I am willing to travel to your home, I charge an extra 5 per session for this. I can give advice to parents e.g. offering advice on how best to support your child's learning or what to expect when your child starts school, as well as one to one skills tutoring or small group work.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a class teacher in english primary schools for more than twenty years, and have also held the management post for literacy in three of those schools. I have taught many children who have needed different teaching from the majority of their peers and been a SENCo. I have received termly updated training and attend and lead in-service training for primary teachers. I have taught children across the primary age range, from Reception/Foundation stage to Year 6 within the last 6 years. My specialism is teaching reading and writing. I have also taught the maths curriculum throughout my career. I also some experience of adult education and would be willing to assist any more mature person wanting to increase their confidence with literacy.

Tutoring Approach:

I have sets of work to address specific tasks (e.g. Key stage 2 SATs), but prefer to tailor sessions to the specific needs and learning styles of the child. During the first session/s I will assess your child's strengths and in subsequent meetings, address the areas they particularly find challenging. Most sessions will be an hour but I offer 45 minute sessions if appropriate (this is often more effective with younger children). I am happy to assess any child and feedback to you my professional opinion on a one off basis. I can usually offer short blocks of tutoring (e.g. once a week for 6 weeks) or I can offer longer term support. I can offer high quality structured specialist literacy teaching to home educated children.

Personal Description:
I am studying for an MSci in Physics at Royal Holloway, University of London. I am fluent in four languages (French, German, Spanish and English), and have worked at the United Nations in Vienna for the past two years in July and August, so have improved my people skills immensely. I hope to remain in academia, and will hopefully achieve a PhD in Physics after my Masters.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored both French and Spanish on an informal basis, and I am now looking to convert this into more formal work. Language tutoring has been particularly appropriate for me due to my international schooling. This is not only because of my fluency in each language, but also because I was surrounded by students from many cultural and linguistic backgrounds, which has given me a real understanding of how a language is learnt, and an ability to pre-emptively combat common mistakes. My academic background in the sciences also allows me to work patiently through complex mathematical and scientific issues that a student may encounter.

Tutoring Approach:

I am friendly and approachable, as I believe it is important to create an excellent working relationship between the tutor and the student, but I also expect a high level of commitment to learning in order for the student to progress. I am extremely patient, especially with lower-level learners, and I always ensure that the basics are thoroughly understood before progression to a higher level. This allows my students to learn the methods by which they will improve - if a student full understands a topic instead of just learning it by heart, they will be able to continue to apply this throughout all of their studies.
