| Personal Description: I have recently completed a degree at Oxford University in Modern Languages (Spanish and Portuguese) and am able to teach in the Sheffield/Chesterfield area. My degree consisted of language modules (translation from and into the target language, essay writing, aural and oral skills) and literature modules (Spanish and Portuguese). I spent a year abroad, half the year in Brazil and half the year in Madrid, Spain, which allowed me to be completely immersed in the languages I studied and furthered my teaching experience. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught English as a Foreign Language in Brazil, Spain and the UK - both freelance and for prestigious language schools, such as Berlitz, OISE and OIC. I have therefore had the experience of following set lesson plans and creating my own and I have taught Spanish to English and non-English speakers. I have taught in well-known businesses and institutions (Accenture, Saint Gobain, Enel, Universidad Autonoma Madrid), provided tuition for professional qualifications and also for recreational purposes. |
Tutoring Approach: Given my status as recent graduate, I can relate to the difficulties a student might have and the skills and techniques which I used in my own degree are still very much a part of how I communicate. When I first meet a tutee, my priority is to ascertain what they hope to gain from the lessons and work from there. Some tutees want to pass a particular professional exam (A-Level, GCSE, etc) and so I would spend a lot of time researching the nature and structure of the exam. Other tutees want to be able to converse when abroad, either for business or recreational purposes and so the skills they require are slightly different. Every student is different. The materials I use with the student will also depend on their interests and requirements. The next key thing is to focus on what the tutee needs most help with and this will be a focal point of the tutorial - there is no point in spending an hour on something the tutee can do perfectly! My lessons are varied. I only spend 10-15 minutes on each task and will focus on a slightly different aspect of the subject. Academic tutorials generally focus on the following: 1. Reading and textual analysis (which in turn aids vocabulary expansion and sentence structure) 2. Oral communication 3. Essay skills (how to structure an essay, how to argue a point most effectively, stylistic improvements, etc) For more recreational lessons, the lesson will completely depend on what the tutee would enjoy the most. My combined experience as recent graduate and teacher, as well as my absolute enthusiasm for my subjects will ensure that my student will get the most from any lesson! |

| Personal Description: I completed a B.A with Qualified Teacher Status ( 4 year course ), at Warwick University, specialising in English and Religious Studies. I teach on a part - time basis now in Tamworth and have done so for the past 6 years since having my daughter, who I home educate. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught for 18 years in the Primary sector, both Key Stage One and Two. I currently teach year 3 and 4 children. I have experience of Year 2 and Year 6 S.A.T.S and have tailored revision sessions for this age group. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe a semi autonomous approach to education utilises ones own interest in the subject to increase professional knowledge and competence while reducing the rigidity of a formal teaching pattern. While these doctrines are an intrinsicly personal belief in teaching methods, I am aware of individuals learning styles and sessions will be tailored to the individual and their desired goals/ needs. |

| Personal Description: I am 53 years old and have spent all of my adult life living abroad. I recently returned to England after living 9 years in France, 15 years in California, 8 years in Cuba and 2 years in Ecuador. My partner is Cuban so any Spanish classes could also involve a native speaker. I bring with me the experience of living in very different countries and systems. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught TEFL in registered language schools in San Francisco, California and in Cuenca, Ecuador. My students were all adults in post-graduate studies. I have tutored both Spanish and French conversation. |
Tutoring Approach: I prefer to teach one on one because of the rapid progress a student makes to the satisfaction of tutor and student alike. I myself learned Spanish this way before going on to study the language in college. I would prefer to teach anyone under 16 at their own home with one of their parents present in the house at the time. |

| Personal Description: My name is Wiebke and I am originally from Germany. I now live in Scotland and have a little daughter called Ivy. If I'm not busy being a parent I love reading, walking and cooking. |
Teaching Experience: I have completed the first semester of teacher training for secondary schools in Scotland including a 6 week placement in a school. I also worked as an assistant teacher for German at a sixth form college in Hull, England in 2001/02 when doing my degree in English. I also did tutoring when I was in High School myself. I have always enjoyed teaching, especially on a one to one basis. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that everybody is able to learn languages, it just depends on the way it is taught. Learning has to be relevant and fun and I am very committed to finding the right way of teaching for everybody. Whether it is to help someone who has to learn German in school or University and wants a good grade, someone who wants to improve their job prospects by learning a langauge or someone who wants to do it just for fun, I will devise a fun and successful teaching plan. |

| Personal Description: I am 24 and studying to be a teacher. I love helping students with their studies, I am reliable, patient, organised and encouraging! I am offering tutoring in French and Maths. I grew up in the French speaking part of Switzerland with an English mother so I speak perfect French and English. I did my A-levels with maths as my first subject and I have a degree in environmental science. |
Teaching Experience: I taught maths and sports full time at an international school in the Swiss Alps for six months. Before that I worked as a tutor in maths and English for three years as a part time job. I am also involved in an international organisation called Luethi-Peterson Camps, which runs summer camps for children of many different nationalities where I worked as a camp counsellor. |
Tutoring Approach: Maths Depending on my student's needs I like working on/explaining different theory points one by one by writing them down clearly in a notebook, and then emphasising each point with exercises until it's understood. French I like getting to know my students and speaking in French as much as possible in a relaxed atmosphere. Depending on my student's needs I will design different speaking, listening and writing exercises to improve their grammar, vocabulary and communicational skills. |

| Personal Description: I have just completed my A Levels and am taking a year out before taking up a place at Edinburgh to study Physics in 2011. |
Teaching Experience: I have no formal teaching experience, but have frequently helped students both from my year group and from younger years at school with physics and maths. Having just been through the school system I think I have a unique understanding of the needs of the students and the stresses which they are going through. I have found that students often respond well to a teacher who they can relate to. |
Tutoring Approach: Every student has different needs so it is important to be flexible, and most essentially to determine the student's own pace of working. So often in maths lessons particularly, students get left behind because the teacher moves on before the student has grasped the basic concepts. |

| Personal Description: I am a French Canadian, born and raised in Montreal. I am bilingual and have studied French Literature, Art and Communication (minor in Culture and Creative Writing) in College. I have also completed a Certificate in Legal research and writing and am now studying a BA (Hons) in Education and Psychology to become a teacher. While studying Law, I took part in the editing and correcting of the Law Faculty Student newspaper. Furthermore, I have been working in Quebec (Canada) as a legal copy editor for the past year and a half. I am a young, open minded, enthusiastic person, who loves to work with people. |
Teaching Experience: I have been tutoring kids aged 14 and below while studying in College and University (3 years). I have also helped fellow students with their semester papers in University. |
Tutoring Approach: I prioritise speaking before writing, although I pay great attention to grammar. I think reading in French is a great way to improve and I have developed many games to help practice with young kids (i.e. 4 to 8). I do think it is easier to learn while having a casual conversation and fun, therefore, I often suggest we do something while speaking, making it easier to improve "real life" conversational skills (for example, I have been cooking with a group of 4 teens, trying recipes before writing a small recipe book). More traditional teaching of verbs tenses, gender and grammar is also something possible for those looking for writing skills as well as conversational skills. |
