| Personal Description: I'm a friendly but professional male aged 26 |
Teaching Experience: 2 years teaching Secondary Maths. 6 years tutoring experience |
Tutoring Approach: I prefer to allow pupils to investigate Maths for themselves rather than "spoon feed" them as this promotes long term learning. | Personal Description: I am a positive, enthusiastic and friendly person who loves to inspire learners. I believe everyone can make good progress given a learning environment and teaching that suits them. My work has involved working with a variety of learners: gifted, SEN and in the community with adults and I have taken great pride in the achievements of all of them. I love writing, reading and I regularly perform and aim to bring these passions, skills and enthusiasm to my tutoring. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught for six years in the community and in mainstream and special education and am currently working part time teaching English and Drama in a secondary school. Over the years, in my teaching, I have written and produced several school productions for both able-bodied and children with physical disabilities and enjoyed excellent exam results for both my gifted students and for those with SEN or weaker skills. |
Tutoring Approach: I aim to be flexible and tailor my teaching to the needs and ability of the student whilst keeping the solid expectations and boundaries that, I believe, enables learners to make rapid progress. I believe in encouragement, creative approaches and clear explanations - with lots and lots of patience! Most of all, I believe in the students. Praise is very important; it enables students to feel pride in their achievements. I am always ready to give lots of praise to those achievements! |

| Personal Description: I am a 20 year old female university student studying a French and Japanese BA at Cardiff university. I am currently in my second year and I'm hoping to find some people who would like me to help them with their learning, because helping others to learn only reinforces what you already know, and I like to keep my brain active! |
Teaching Experience: At the moment I have no proper experience as a tutor, the closest I can claim to have had is helping my neighbour's children with ICT and helping my younger sister with French. I would like to try being a tutor as I've been told it's an enjoyable experience, and will give me some valuable experience for when I begin a teaching course after university. |
Tutoring Approach: I am willing to teach in a variety of ways, both online and offline, as well as helping you/your child to advance in the learning of your chosen subject. I would begin by assessing how far the tutee has already progressed in the subject and try to work out any weak areas, and then continue by creating exercises and situations designed to try and improve in those areas. For example; if I were tutoring the tutee in French and I found that their weakness was in the spoken language, I would have conversations with them and try to involve them in activities that use French language, such as watching French programmes, listening to French radio or the opportunity to speak with a native French speaker. I would also record the conversations so that the tutee could listen to them later and hear their own mistakes, then work on trying to correct them. If the tutoring were a completely online situation, I would communicate with the tutee via all methods of internet communication (IM, skype, e-mail) and use a similar approach to the one I would in person. |

| Personal Description: In 2005, I graduated from The University of Reading with an upper second class degree in English and History of Art: my modules included 10 Shakespeare plays, Renaissance Women's Writing, Modern Drama, and my dissertation was based on the myth of Pygmalion in Literature and Art. I completed my teaching qualification last year, and am now qualified to teach English to secondary aged students. I love reading Shakespeare plays and my lifetime ambition is to read all his works. I also enjoy going to the theatre, playing tennis and regularly write poems and prose in my blog, so I can pass this enthusiasm for reading and writing onto students. |
Teaching Experience: I specialise in teaching 3-16 year olds English reading, writing and conversation. Preschool - I am currently teaching a 3 year old boy and a 3 year girl the first stages of reading and writing. Year 1- I teach reading, writing and conversation to a 5 year old boy. Year 2 - I am preparing a 7 year old boy for his key stage 1 exams. Year 6 - I prepared an 11 year old boy for this Key Stage 2 exams, by studying past papers and teaching him successful exam techniques. Year 7 - 2 mixed ability classes, where I taught the poem 'Boewulf' and the play, 'Smith'. I also taught a creative writing module. 12 year old student - I prepared this tutee for her 12+ grammar school exam. This student was consequently offered a place at the grammar school of her choice. Year 8 - 2 top set classes, where I taught advertising, Shakespeare and poetry modules. Year 9 - 1 lower set and 1 top set class, where I prepared students for the Shakespeare, Reading and Writing SATs papers. Year 10 - 1 middle set group - 'Romeo and Juliet' GCSE coursework. Two adult ESOL tutees - I taught them English grammar and conversation. |
Tutoring Approach: I am a patient tutor, who has high expectations and always gets the best out of her pupils, so they progress to achieve their full potential. I love talking about language and Shakespeare, and this passion for English is evident in my tutoring lessons. Similarly, I am fascinated by history and historical events and this interest comes across in my teaching. Overall, I am an enthusiastic, gentle and caring tutor, who helps students become confident about the subject they are studying. I am also ambitious for my students and push them to tackle challenging tasks to become more intelligent individuals. I tutor adults and children, so I am flexible in my approach and easy to talk to. |

| Personal Description: Having graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in Economics in July 2006, I spent a year working at HM Treasury as a Government Economist. I returned to University in September 2007 to undertake a law conversion course which I completed in July 2008, graduating with distinction. I then completed by legal practice course at the College of Law in London. I am no currently working part time as a tutor, teaching a wide range of different subjects including Maths, Economics, Law and Psychology. As well as an outstanding academic record, my excellent interpersonal skills and my ability to communicate complex or technical ideas in a simple manner make me an excellent choice as a tutor. I am also used to working with children of all ages having worked at Brighton homework club, a Saturday kids club and Brighton Child Contact Centre. I am also the eldest of four children! I am CRB checked and can provide references on request. |
Teaching Experience: Over the last three years I have tutored students in AS Economics, A Level Economics, GCSE Mathematics, AS Psychology, A Level Psychology and Key Stage 2 Mathematics. I also work part time as a study support worker for Brighton and Hove after school homework club for children aged 9-16. At college, I was a school mentor, travelling regularly to local schools to help children with basic reading and writing. |
Tutoring Approach: I do not think there can be one approach to tutoring as the best method depends on the strengths, age, attention span and personality of the student. Before tutoring a student, I like to spend some time with them assessing what learning methods they enjoy and which methods are most successful. I also like to assess their enthusiasm and ability as these are both key to how I structure my lessons. For example, some students may find the standard teaching approach most successful, however, other students might need the tutor to present the material in an innovative manner to make it interesting and also most importantly to ensure that it is remembered. Throughout my teaching experience, I have used Jaffa Cakes to teach fractions, Star Wars figures to teach addition and Packets of Haribo to explain the concept of hundreds, tens and units! I keep older students engaged by making the tutoring session a two way dialogue. I ask students lots of questions about topics to test their memory and understanding. I also use previous exam questions in each session to ensure the student is fully competent and confident with their basic exam technique and understands how the topics in each session apply to the exam. |

| Personal Description: I graduated from The University of Hull in June 2008, gaining a Bachelors Degree in Music where I specialised in Solo and Ensemble Performance. My final year dissertation focused soley on the different teaching styles which are implemented by music teachers, this inspired me to apply for a place on a Secondary PGCE course at The University of Hull. I believe that everyone has the right to learn, and that this is best done so in a non-pressurised environment. I am very enthusiastic about teaching and I realise the importance of education in all aspects of life. I already have an advanced CRB check, and I am extremely flexible with hours. I am well qualified to teach Maths, English, Science and Music. My fee is negotiable depending on individual circumstances. |
Teaching Experience: I mainly have experience of teaching music to children and adults, in the field of private brass instrumental and piano tuition, and with teaching primary and GCSE level mathematics to children and adults of all ages. Whilst studying for my degree I completed several teaching placements at schools which gave me insight to how subjects are taught in schools and how pupils react to different teaching styles. I would now like to tutor for other subjects such as English and Science as I believe these to be key to educational development. I am comfortable with tutoring people of all ages and abilities. I also have knowledge of specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia. More recently I have tutored two adult learners whom where studying for GCSE equivilency examinations, and tutored five year 11 pupils whom all gained A's and A*'s in their GCSE exxaminations (summer 09). |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is very relaxed and informal. I believe that it is essential to create a stimulating environment for study and that clear lesson objectives should be provided to the student. My aim is for the pupils to develop their own skills in the subject area. I use a range of different teaching skills which I adapt to suit the tutees individual needs, enabling me to explain concepts in a variety of different ways, to find the method that best suits each individual so that they gain as much as possible from the tutoring sessions. |
