Personal Description:
My name's Richard, I am 27 and currently a teacher of science at a secondary school. I'm a very experienced and confident teacher and have also taught many other subjects due to my previous life as a supply teacher. I tend to be well liked by learners of all ages as I insist on mutual respect in the classroom. I'm firm when needs be but by making learning fun and accessible to pupils, I find I rarely need to be. I'm committed to improving not only the learner's educational experience, but also to my own development as a teacher.

Teaching Experience:

I currently teach science at Perryfields High School, which is an ever-improving school in Oldbury. We attained the best GCSE results in Sandwell last year and are looking to build upon that success this year. I have spent the last 7 years teaching in a variety of schools and I am also a specialist in working with children with SEN.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring employs a wide array of teaching styles in order to satisfy the different learning needs of the individual. I use a combination of computer based and Internet resources, kinaesthetic activities, discussion based exercises as well as the more traditional "chalk and talk" approach.

Personal Description:
I enjoy working with children and can offer you enthusiasm for science and dedication to aiding children of all abilities. I am well informed about the science curriculum in secondary schools and know where to get further information about other curriculum subjects for different ages. I have already developed a range of resources from the schools that I have had experience with and have good communication, ICT, literacy and numeracy skills. Outside of my studies at university I was also a member of the canoe club and was responsible for leading groups of kayakers or canoeists on the river. I completed a Level one British Canoe Union (BCU) Coaching Award and Aquatic First Aid to enable me to full the requirements of this role adequately. Even after leaving university I still take an active role in coaching new members to the university's canoe club and helping out with trips. This role within the club requires a lot of responsibility, teamwork and trust.

Teaching Experience:

I have had some work experience in 4 secondary schools over the last 2 years as both an observer and in doing some training towards becoming a teacher. During my time within these schools I have developed my planning and organisational skills as well as developing some of my own teaching resources. As of September I shall be working as an LSA in the mornings within a Primary school to expand my school experience but would like to offer my afternoons up to tutoring.

Tutoring Approach:

My main approach to tutoring is to make the learning enjoyable and creative. This is done by initially establishing how the child pefers to learn and what teaching tatics and interests they respond to best to make the science easier for them to both understand and relate to.

Personal Description:
I am an 19 year old girl studying a BA in Classics at the University of Oxford tutoring as a summer job. I'm very dedicated and friendly, and believe that I'm very much in touch with children and teenagers, and hence very suited to tutoring. I'm highly academically adept in both arts and sciences - achieving 5 A-grades at A-level in Classical Greek, English Literature, Mathematics, Physics and Critical Thinking, an A-grade at AS-level in Further Mathematics, and 13 A*-grades at GCSE. I'm very well qualified to teach what I offer, and confident that I really understand my subjects.

Teaching Experience:

Although I've never had any formal tutoring experience, I used to be a voluntary helper for GCSE Maths Classes when I was in Sixth Form, at Nonsuch High School for Girls, Cheam. This involved attending a GCSE class once a week, finding out which students were struggling and in what areas, explaining concepts they didn't understand, and guiding them through difficult questions.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a highly flexible approach to tutoring: after all, each child has a different attitude to learning, different needs, and different abilities. I am both very patient and very creative, thus I'm willing to persevere and try different methods of teaching to suit their needs. Most importantly, however, I believe that a tutor should always have a genuine enthusiasm for teaching, and a genuine interest in learning. This is exactly what I instinctively possess, and what I hope to pass on to others.

Personal Description:
I'm a Chinese and I'm friendly and enthusiastic towards my work. I'm also a patient person, since my work is mainly to do with children of 12-18 years old. I can work with a very positive attitude and can always be helpful.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching English in China for 4 years, and then Chinese in UK for 2 years. I majored in English education when I was in university, which enable me to have a profound knowledge of teaching. I taught students of A-level last year as well as evening class for adults, and this year I'm teaching GCSE Chinese. So I believe that I'm experienced in teaching both Chinese and English.

Tutoring Approach:

Since I've been teaching students of different ages and levels, I fully understand that I should choose different methods and teaching materials for them. But it's always important to activate students enthusiasm towards learning. So group work, pair work, individual competition as well as the media like ppt will be used in my class. Also I'd like to choose varieties of teaching materials such as flash cards and pictures to help.

Personal Description:
I am due to start my GTP placement next September and looking to tutor in the evenings on top of my existing job for the year. I have a Geography BA (hons) and looking to teach this and Mathematics up to KS3.

Having been told that one of my most admirable qualities is to seek out a challenge and being a keen traveler, I took a gap year after my A levels; where besides the immense award of completing several physical challenges, I loved experiencing a way of life so far removed from my own. During my years at university I was lucky enough to combine my two passions of geography and traveling through various fieldtrips. In the summer of 2007 I visited Phnom Penh, where I carried out research for my undergraduate thesis and volunteered with the NGO CCASVA by working with the street children. This involved visiting the 'hot spots' in the city where the children could be found during the day and carrying out various activities from clipping their nails and tending to any injuries they may have to reading them stories. This gave me an insight into the work of NGO's in developing countries and an admiration of how committed and devoted they are to trying to bring about change for the people. I was also lucky enough to spend some time in the International School of Phnom Penh, where I was able to observe some lessons. These two experiences gave me an interesting insight into working with children in an informal setting and appreciating a different education system to the one I was brought up in.

Teaching Experience:

After being accepted onto a Primary PGCE course last September and completing two placements at the Institute of Education, University of London, I decided to withdraw as I believed I was lacking the relative classroom experience. My references demonstrated my ability to teach from small groups to taking the class, yet I did not feel ready to have all the responsibilities of class teacher and by applying for the position of teaching assistant I hoped to gain further insight into a school and its structure.

I was lucky enough to be taken on as a Teaching Assistant at Shepherd Primary School in Hertfordshire where I was employed to assist with Mathematics, Science and English lessons primarily in year 6. On a day to day basis I supported the teachers instructional work, e.g. listening to students read, taking out and teaching small groups and helping children locate information for their exam revision. Through my work at Shepherd Primary I gained the skills and confidence I was searching for and am now ready to begin my teacher training.

For three years I volunteered as a staff mentor for three weeks in a residential summer camp which I found an enormous challenge. The job comes with a lot of responsibility being a constant role model for my peers and other youths. I also assisted at a local primary school for children with learning disabilities and became a mentor for a number of 15 year olds at my school who have moderate learning disabilities. Helping and interacting with these children has given me the understanding that teaching is not just about being in the classroom and imparting knowledge but also about personal relations and the appreciation that one is teaching individuals, people with different personalities and abilities.

I wish to teach to be able to encourage children in their quest for knowledge and for my own learning. I hope to contribute my enthusiasm to teaching children through extending their thinking and challenging them in ways they would not expect and also through working as part of a team.

Tutoring Approach:

To me, being a teacher means helping children discover the world around them and beyond, whilst helping them learn and grow as individuals.

Personal Description:
I'm 23 years old and live in Dundee. I'm about to complete my post graduate primary teacher training course, having already completed a 4 year undergraduate degree, and working for a year. I've worked with children in a paid capacity since I was 16, including a summer abroad in a summer camp.

Teaching Experience:

6 weeks left until I get my own primary class! Very experienced youth worker, working with children and young people between the ages of 2 and 18.

Tutoring Approach:

Active learning - generating fun activities to promote learning. Take the lead from the individual and the way they learn, there's not point making someone read for an hour if information never sinks in that way! I'm flexible, and can come up with new ways to help individuals learn.

Personal Description:
I'm a keen mathematician who has been working in a scientific environment for the last 19 years. I have a Batchelor's degree in Physics (University of Warwick), and a Master's Degree (with distinction) in Applied Mathematics (University of Reading). I am currently researching for my PhD (part time) in Mathematics through the University of Reading. I am a member of the Institute of Physics with Chartered status in addition to Chartered Scientist status. I am a fellow of the IMA with chartered mathematician status.

I'm a keen gym goer (and have been for about 20 years), and enjoy relaxing as much in a coffee shop as watching sports. I have lots of life experience and am an open minded person.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for about 8 years and have tutored many students from GCSE right through to first year degree level. I've helped school children and adults alike, and have had some really satisfying results. I regularly teach at a mathematics drop in centre at the University of Reading, and also regularly lecture in specific scientific areas at my place of work.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to tutor because of the rewards it brings in seeing someone progress and defeat their often mental blocks to maths. I am understanding and listen well, offering many different approaches to understanding mathematics.
