Personal Description:
I am a native speaker of Turkish. I've been living in England since 1997 and completed my Computer Science degree in 2006 at Aston University / Birmingham. For my final year project I developed computer program to translate between Turkish and English. The program was build using a dictionary, set of rules listed in a pattern and a logic to extract meaning using the dictionary and the pattern. Turkish is morphologically a complex language. However complexity can be simplified by learning the patterns, and then enjoy making sentences using logic. I find learning a language exciting myself and after my degree started to learn German. Through listening to cd's of Michael Thomas. It was fascinating to see that he was using the same technique to teach couple of his students. During the learning process it was their logic that was being challenged more than their memory of words and phrases. I think it is ok to 'cheat' and look up words that you don't remember. Once you start making sentences using particular words and you are comfortable with the sentence you will also remember the word due to the pattern you have built in your mind. Regardless of our individual learning styles, I think building patterns is a more permanent and easy way of learning than trying to memorise everything.

Teaching Experience:

I ve been giving private tuition in Birmingham, and now I would like to continue this in Bournemouth. I am currently doing a research about effective ways of teaching Turkish. I am interested in teaching Turkish because I enjoy teaching, also the experience will support my project. My ultimate aim is to write and record my own teaching materials for learning Turkish

Tutoring Approach:

I developed my interest in languages through my degree. I am competent in teaching, and I will adopt my technique based on the individual's learning style. Most native English speaking people in the UK finds agglutinative languages difficult to comprehend, as they attempt to 'understand' by comparing them with their own or some other European language. I believe that I can provide techniques that will overcome this difficulty. I enjoy teaching Turkish because I believe that I can understand how different individuals perceive and learn. Personal Description:
I began my combat training at thirteen at a local boxing club in Llanelli, learning the vital skills and discipline that have kept me working in the fitness and self-defence field for over ten years.

At the age of fifteen I joined the Cobra-Kai Freestyle Kickboxing Federation, and trained religiously under the regime of instructor Lee Martin (4th degree black belt). In 1997 I went on to win the European martial arts title (WUMA Federation), held at Cheltenham. On my return, and after numerous local newspaper photos and write-ups, I received the greatest honour any keen young martial artist dreams of: becoming a fully-fledged black belt.

Teaching Experience:

At the young age of 18, I opened my very own kickboxing club at Llanelli Leisure Centre, for all levels and ages. After showcasing my skills, not only as a martial artist but also a teacher, I received my 2nd degree black belt. Starting with just one weekly ninety-minute class, I now run four classes per week. Over the years I have helped created more than ten black belt students, two welsh champions and one British champion.

In 1997, I ran my first all women's self-defence class, training women of all ages and physical abilities. I continued my classes, eventually including mixed gender and young persons training.

After undergoing a series of courses from Securicare, Frontline, Venue security and BIIAB City and Guilds, I have become a Level 7 Conflict Management Trainer. I have worked alongside various organisations such as the NHS, covering the majority of hospitals and clinics throughout Carmarthenshire.

As well as training, I have since achieved my 4th degree black belt, opened my own one-to-one gym, and become an advanced level 3 personal trainer through Fitness Wales (REPs certified), teaching private lessons of fitness, weight training, martial arts, self-defence, Pilates, and much more.

Tutoring Approach:

Teaching has been a big part of my life from a very young age. It has given me great pleasure and accomplishment. At times I have found it difficult, but at the same time rewarding. I have always given it 100% and believe that to be a good teacher you must be able to learn from the positives and even the negatives.

Personal Description:
I'm a well spoken and friendly "science geek" with great interpersonal skills. I pride myself on a relaxed and logical approach to problem solving; whether it be at a post-graduate level or the ability to communicate GCSE and A-Level topics in a relevant manner. Throughout my schooling I saw many classmates struggle with topics because they were unable to make a connection to their interests. Personal tutoring allows the tutee to have access to the information in a tailored manor such that they are able to relate the the problem and make clear logical choices about how to proceed.

I graduated with an MSci in Chemistry from the University of Nottingham last year and I'm currently in my 1st year of a 4 year PhD, also Chemistry. Throughout my course I did extra maths and physics modules and my research currently also depends heavily on all the sciences and maths. For those interested in Uni-level tutoring within Chemistry; my PhD involves a lot of vibrational spectroscopy (inorganic section), and I regularly use all the physics, maths and inorganic chemistry taught at undergrad level.

Tutoring:
I have tutored multiple students in the past, providing entire revision/improvement courses for both GCSE and A-level students as well as help a variety of university students achieving high grades on specific modules.

The tailored approach of private tuition allows students to quickly build confidence in a subject (and exam technique) which results in achieving grades that each student is capable of. I've also offered subject specific tutoring, such as "Quantitive Analysis for Business", a statistical module for Business Management students.

University:
Demonstrating: I help undergrad students understand and complete practical experiments several times a week.
A-Level Outreach/UCAS: I participate in numerous UCAS events to help potential students and parents understand what Chemistry at Nottingham Uni has to offer.

Outdoor Education:
Last summer I lived in a forest for 3 months and each week had a different group of 12-16 year olds to look after and teach them how to survive in the wild. Catching and cooking our food, building shelters to sleep in and different ways to make fire were just some of the topics covered.

Tutoring Approach:

An essential part of great exam grades is an understanding of not only the subject area, but an understanding of the underlying question. Tailoring a teaching style to every student is essential, especially when it comes to science and maths. Although it's possible to pass exams with a "copy and paste" approach, developing an understanding of the subject area will yield much better grades and almost certainly reducing the amount of stress associated with exams.

Tutoring Approach:

As Stephen Krashen puts it, "Simply being a native speaker of a language does not in of itself qualify one as a teacher of that language. Conscious and extensive knowledge of grammar does not make one a language teacher either. Rather, the defining characteristic of a good teacher is someone who can make input comprehensible to a non-native speaker, regardless of his or her level of competence in the target language."

Your primary goal as a student is to learn a language. In that regard my primary job as a tutor is to guarantee the effectiveness of your learning process in relation to your needs and expectations.

How do I achieve that? First and most importantly by combining the right set of tools in my teaching repertoire:

- TPRS - Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling - is at the core of my methodology.

Traditionally there has been a prejudiced view that only certain people can 'do' languages. That only smart students can become proficient and that only the really smart can move on to advanced study. TPRS has demonstrated that the vast majority of students can achieve high levels of success at all levels of foreign language study, and that acquiring a second language isn't nearly as difficult as we teachers sometimes make it. TPRS is making particular headway in language classrooms across the US and considerable research has been done and published on its efficacy.

TPRS works because it is brain-friendly and multi-sensory methodology, fitting the needs of various learning styles. Students develop a real "ear for the language," learning to listen and respond to what sounds right.

- Teaching grammar in meaningful context from day one
The focus is first and foremost on the message, with realistic expectations (level-appropriate) for grammatical accuracy. My philosophy is that of John DeMado: "Linguistic accuracy is a destination, not a point of departure." My way of teaching grammar is based on usefulness, frequency of use and level appropriateness.

- Tremendous amount of Comprehensible Input.

This approach supports the language acquisition theory by Stephen Krashen, who says: "We acquire language in only one way, when we understand messages, that is when we obtain comprehensible input."

- Reading as a major component of learning process.

In his book, The Power of Reading: Insights into the Research, 2nd edition, (p. 37) Stephen Krashen states, "Studies showing that reading enhances literacy development lead to what should be an uncontroversial conclusion: Reading is good for you. The research, however, supports a stronger conclusion: Reading is the only way we become good readers, develop good writing style, an adequate vocabulary, advanced grammatical competence, and the only way we become good spellers."

- Teaching Russian to heritage speakers as a language arts/social science.

I am Spanish teacher living in London. I am really friendly, responsible and I will always love to learn as many languages as possible.

Teaching Experience:

I studied a degree on Translation and Interpreting so I have a good English and French. Two years ago, I ended my MA degree on Spanish language and culture which is mainly focused on teaching Spanish as a foreign language.

I have been an English assistant teacher in two Summer Camps for 4 to 6 year old children and also taught Spanish as a foreign language to Erasmus students coming to the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
I have also been personal tutor of many children between 5 and 15 years.

Tutoring Approach:

I really try to focus on a Communicative Method, I make sure grammar is learned but I do not focus on showing grammar as a separate subject which has to be learned by hard. I try to show real texts (news articles, stories, tales, etc) and once you are able to understand the vocabulary, you will notice how is grammar used in different contexts.
There is no sense of teaching a language without a real context, I try to avoid inventing sentences which have no meaning at all.

In case you wish to try different approaches, I have no inconvenience on adapting it to what you really want to do.

I qualified in September 2013 and have been teaching ever since then. I have got 7 hours class teaching experience but the rest and the majority of my experience lies with teaching adults in a 1:1 setting.

Tutoring Approach:

I tend to take a fairly laid back approach to teaching (depending on the student's requirements). I take a very pro-active approach and try and make the lessons as fun as possible, thus the student gains more from them and is more likely to remember what they have learnt. I encourage students to use what they have learnt outside of lessons, thus increasing their practice time and therefore improving their english immensely. I can set homework if I feel it is necessary but the responsibility to complete that work lies within the student. I motivate my students to go above and beyond the standard requirements. If the student is committed then this is always reciprocated.

Hello! My name is Eva, and I would describe myself as a very warm, friendly, straight forward and patient person, with excellent communication skills. I have an incredibly strong academic record (A-Levels: English Literature-A*, Drama-A*and French-A) and a genuine love for reading, theatre, and music. I feel passionate about bringing success and confidence to those I teach, and I aim to inspire my pupils to have a real interest for the subject!

Teaching Experience:

I have regularly helped younger siblings with English homework, and given them the confidence to become braver and more vocal in the classroom. I am able to clearly explain exam and revision technique - which is often the key to improving grades.
I have previously set up a school drama club, and have led games and prepared lessons for groups of children. I enjoyed the challenge and process of this hugely, and know from verbal feedback that they did too! I hugely value the time I spent with these students and their inquisitive minds. As a result of my commitment to this club I was awarded the school's Eunice Hobbs prize for Initiative.
During my degree I was given the role as music teacher, singing teacher and pianist for one of the productions that was being put on. I enjoyed this hugely, and found the work to be incredibly satisfying. The group was made up of university students who had a huge range of musical abilities, and I feel that I was able to attend to each individual's needs by giving clear explanations and ways to think about music.

Tutoring Approach:

I graduated from Guildhall School of Music & Drama with a First Class Honours Degree, and feel that this is a wonderful foundation for tutoring. I feel passionate about helping pupils with Drama, English, or Music, and believe that I would be able to give excellent tutoring lessons. I feel very confident in one-to-one teaching scenarios, and believe I am sensitive to an individual's needs. I am currently taking my PhD in classics at Durham University, having taken my undergraduate degree in classics at Cambridge and my MA at Durham. Also I should mention that I have GCSE and A-level qualifications in Latin and Ancient Greek and am very familiar with the structure and requirements of these exams for any student who may be taking them. My current work focuses heavily on Latin literature, as I am preparing a commentary on Martial's twelfth book of epigrams, although I am equally able to offer assistance to students of classical Greek literature.

Teaching Experience:

During my undergraduate degree I gained experience in private tuition by running a weekly class for two years. The class was based around the works of Homer and catered to a range of abilities. Although the class was primarily geared around making sure the tutees could render an accurate translation of a set passage, assistance was also provided in matters of syntax and style, metrical and literary stylistic considerations, as well as explanations of socio-historical matters.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tuition will of course largely be dependent upon the needs and ability of the respective tutee. For GCSE or A-level students, however, I think it would always be best to begin each lesson with a quick test on a point of grammar and vocabulary (as there is a prescribed list of vocabulary up to AS level), and a literary stylistic feature (e.g. identifying a chiasmus etc.), since these formal aspects essentially underlie the series of unseen exams from GCSE - A-level. After this test, each lesson should focus on a text, ideally alternating each lesson with a text that is prescribed as one of the set texts for the respective exams with an unseen passage. This approach tends to produce the best results since the unseen passages give a true indication of the student's strengths and weaknesses and help the tutor to understand more easily what aspects need to be prioritised.

I've been an independant English teacher in Spain, and I have occasionally helped students with their A-Level subjects and with their reading and writing skills in English as well as in Spanish.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm a big fan of cinema, music and literature, therefore I usually make the tutoring engaging and participative. I am quite easygoing and I adapt to the person's learning pace.

Personal Description:
Approachable, patient and thorough tutor with an outstanding feedback record stretching back to 2009. I am a part-qualified Chartered Accountant, working as a financial statement auditor at a Big Four Accountancy firm in London. My Father was a Mathematics teacher in London for nearly forty years, which is most likely where I get my boundless enthusiasm for these subjects from! I work very hard to make the delivery of subject material as clear, interesting and precise as possible. Rather than just spoon feed a formula, I go back to first principles and explain in simple terms why a particular piece of theory works and where it came from. However, I do not just talk constantly and let the student sit idle. Success in Maths, Accounting and Economics requires problem solving skills, so in order for the sessions to be beneficial I need the student to engage with me and to attempt questions (with my supervision) when they have enough accumulated knowledge to do so. I fully understand how stressful school/university can be and as such the sessions are not intended to be "just another school lesson", or to put vast amounts of pressure on students: the ultimate aim is to develop a strong working rapport whereby the student feels comfortable, secure and can feel a sense of achievement from their work.

Teaching Experience:

I have eight years worth of private tuition experience teaching Mathematics, Accounting and Economics courses that begin at Key Stage 3 (Years 11-14), through GCSE, AS & A2 level to first and second year university courses in accounting, mathematics and economics. Whilst at university I also volunteered to take part in weekly workshops where students could come and ask questions in a relaxed, informal atmosphere about homework or problems that they simply were unable to make any headway with.

For those of you that are interested in becoming an Actuary or indeed would like some tuition for the exams set by the Institute of Actuaries, I am able to teach the following courses: CT1 - Financial Mathematics, CT3 - Probability and Mathematical Statistics, CT4 - Models, CT7 - Economics.

Tutoring Approach:

During the first session I present a short questionnaire that I ask the student to fill in (honestly!) in order for me to assess their individual learning styles (right brain vs. left brain, use of visual stimuli etc), so that I can respond best to their needs. Every lesson will begin with an outline of the subject content and the intended aims. The key to success in maths and economics is to do it! With that in mind, the vast majority of lessons will entail methodically working through problems and exam style questions to ensure my students are as well prepared for their modules as possible. However, exam success isn't the only concern; I want to nurture and develop a genuine love for Mathematics and Economics; one that will encourage the students to read widely and explore new avenues of thought.

Personal Description:
University degree as a Russian-English linguist and a teacher. I am fully qualified to teach 'Russian for Work and Life', A-level, Higher Russian. I know firsthand how challenging it can be to study a foreign language. Native Russian speaker, I also speak Bulgarian and Romanian and I used to study German and French.

I have recently moved to Scotland, where my daughter, who also knows more than 4 languages, has become a student doctor. As a mother and a teacher, I strongly believe that the learning process should be enjoyable in order to achieve the best results.
I have different interests: from reading classical literature to skiing, from cooking to playing tennis, from travelling to knitting, from dogs to....cats :-)
People who know me say that I am a cheerful and friendly person.

Teaching Experience:

At present, teaching at a Glasgow University, at Glasgow schools, at a language school, also, to bilingual children at the Russian Scool of Scotland.
Face-to-face and online lessons, private lessons and small groups' lessons of Beginners or Pre-Intermediate learners in Glasgow.

I am regularly invited to do workshops for the Scotland's National Centre for Languages, to spark interest in the language.

I love my job and I have taught the languages over 15 years to different age groups, from home, at language courses, at schools, universities, for US Government and Moldovan Government. I am equally happy to teach one-to-one and to large groups.

I also have a University Diploma in Psychology and MBA Diploma. The knowledge helps me understand people's motivation better and professionally teach business levels of the languages.

Tutoring Approach:

Absolutely all lessons are individually tailored. After each lesson, my students receive a short report on the vocabulary and grammar studied, also, some materials on their interests.
If you are thinking of a New Year Resolution as 'I will learn Russian (or English)' please don't :-) My advice is to set quantitative goals, e.g.2-4 hours/week or to reach the next level- e.g. to reach Pre-Intermediate within 3 months etc. I wish you all the best in 2017!
