Personal Description:
I am a Mathematics graduate from Cambridge University. After graduating, I worked in the IT industry, initially for a large corporation and then for an independent software house. I later formed my own company, specialising in developing applications for small- to medium-sized companies. I used the logical skills developed through studying Mathematics in my work as Business Analyst and Project Manager.
Since 2009, I have been tutoring Mathematics full-time. I also study extensively to keep up to date with the latest mathematical ideas and educational trends. I ensure that I am familiar with the most recent syllabuses.
Outside work, my main interest is music, particularly singing. I belong to two choirs.

Teaching Experience:

I teach exclusively one-to-one, as I believe that provides the best outcome for learning Mathematics. I am also available for home schooling: please contact me for rates.
In the six years that I have been tutoring Mathematics, I have taught the following topics to over 200 pupils on a one-to-one basis:
GCSE - Edexcel, AQA and iGCSE - legacy and 9-1

Kingston College
Most of my university pupils attend Kingston University, Surrey University, or one of the University of London colleges, though many come for intensive lessons in the holidays from other universities to reinforce the topics they are learning, or to prepare for re-sits.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in tailoring the teaching approach to each student's needs and individual learning style. For school children and university students, I discuss their aims with them - and with their parents, if required - to determine what topics need additional tuition and then to work out the appropriate programme. I advocate continuous assessment to measure the student's progress. Closer to exams, the pupils will work through old papers. At this stage, strategic choices may be made to focus on the pupils strengths.
For adults, I work with them to develop a personalised programme to enable them to achieve their goals. This may mean working towards a specific qualification.
I have great passion for and a deep knowledge of Mathematics. My aim is always to get my students to enjoy the subject. Most importantly, they are encouraged to gain confidence in their own abilities by building on what they feel comfortable with. I believe that the right teacher can undo wrong learning very quickly.
Lessons take place at my students' homes, or at my home in Kingston, where I have a quiet study. Assignments and homework are an integral part of my teaching: there can be no improvement without practice.

Personal Description:
Hi, my name is Imogen and I'm 23 years old. I am a recent graduate from the University of Kent and completed a year abroad in Paris. I studied French, with modules in International Relations, Politics and German. I previously studied the International Baccalaureate instead of A Levels and whilst doing this tutored a 16 year old girl in GCSE French - she went from a C to an A with just simple tutoring of the basics. I graduated with a 2:1, with all my grammar modules being awarded a first.
My year abroad was spent with a French company, improving my French by being surrounded by solely French speakers! I returned from working and living in the French language feeling hugely confident in my foreign language abilities across all disciplines (listening, reading, writing and speaking).
Currently, I work in construction but use my French to liaise with occasional sub contractors and supply chain. Tutoring is my way of continuing with French before being able to get employed by a French construction company down the line.
I believe that I have a friendly approach to tutoring - and I am confident in my approach with my current 8 and 11 year old students who are mentored in different ways.

Teaching Experience:

As previously mentioned, I tutored a 16 year old girl in GCSE French. Over the 9 month period, we improved on her basic grammar skills and reading and listening skills also. From this site, which I joined in December 2012, I gained one student very quickly and during our 4 months tutoring sessions, she improved her basic understanding tremendously, progressing from a D to a B for her oral exam in April.
My tutoring has continued as part of my job at a school, holding outside the classroom small group sessions.
I am currently tutoring siblings, who are moving to France this year with their family. My approach varies with each of them and I have already seen leaps and bounds of improvement from them both!
My success rate demonstrates my ability to work well as a tutor.

Tutoring Approach:

In terms of my approach to tutoring, I like to assess what the tutee finds difficult and try and work in a different way to how they are accustomed to to see if it helps at all. I draw a lot from my experiences as a student as I have found the ways in which I have been taught very easy to understand. I would like to say that my approach is a lot more suited to children because, like them, I am a student too and I understand what they are coping with and how their mind works. Listening is of key importance and I make sure that I listen to what my tutee is trying to say.

Personal Description:
I am a cheerful and thorough teacher, as an ex Army Officer I maintain the highest standards and attention to detail in all my work. I am passionate about mathematics which is why I retrained as a maths teacher several years ago.

Teaching Experience:

I am in my fifth year of Teaching, which has involved teaching in both the state and independent sector. I am currently teaching 11- 18 year olds across the range of abilities.
As well as teaching children, I have also successfully tutored trainee teachers to pass their QTS numeracy tests.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a patient teacher, I strive to find the point at which pupils understanding fades. I am able to link mathematical concepts to real life examples that they are familiar with, in order to help pupils progress. My background in engineering helps me to explain the relevance of mathematics.

Personal Description:
My name is James and I am an 18 year old student at the University of Chester. I currently study French at university. I am fluent in both English and French as I lived in Geneva, Switzerland for the past seven years. I went to an international school where I completed the International Baccalaureate (IB). I have four younger siblings, two sisters and two brothers, aged between 3 and 10 so I am used to being around children.

Teaching Experience:

As a part of the IB we needed to complete something called Creativity Action and Service (CAS hours), for my service I tutored students in the lower years in French. This ranged from my brothers friends in year 2 right the way through to year 10. I enjoyed my experience of tutoring and would like to further it by tutoring here in Chester whilst at university.

Tutoring Approach:

As each child's approach to learning varies, I prefer to have an introduction lesson where I can talk to the parents and the child to gain a proper understanding of the child's needs, strengths and weaknesses. This is extremely important for the 11-14 year olds and the GCSE students as it will help taylor a lesson that they can benefit from the most. This is also important for the primary school students as the lessons must be fun and interactive to keep them interested, if I can find out what they want to learn then I can plan a lesson that they will enjoy.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified teacher with 3 years experience of successfully teaching Biology to GCSE and A-Level. Having recently relocated and now living and working in East London, I am looking to tutor at weekends or weekday evenings.

I have an Upper Second Class BSc degree, with Honours, from the University of Leeds in Human Genetics. This course contained a significant amount of Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, further building on my previous qualifications (including 3 A's at A-level, 6 A*s and 5 A's at GCSE).

Additionally, I have had two years experience in industry. This includes 18 months spent working as a project and account manager for a successful biotechnology company, and a further 6 months spent working in a radiotherapy department as an assistant practitioner. Both of these roles heavily involved the application of scientific principles, contributing to the knowledge I hold of the relevance of science to the real world.

Teaching Experience:

I have three years experience teaching KS3, KS4 and KS5 Biology at a high achieving well established Church of England School in Bolton. A large percentage of my teaching timetable included teaching Biology to high ability pupils at KS5. In Summer 2015, every single one of my A2 pupils progressed to achieve and/or exceed their target grades, with 7 of my 30 pupils achieving A*s. During this time I worked closely with the Head of Biology to develop schemes of work and resources to help better structure and streamline our teaching of the specification. In order to further enrich the quality of my teaching, I successfully applied to AQA for the position of examiner, and I have just completed my first summer of examining (GCSE). I therefore consider myself to have an up to date knowledge and understanding of current curriculum developments.

I have recently started in the new position as Teacher of Biology a the Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre: an outstanding provider of A Level education based in East London. The college opened in September 2014 and aims to push able local students to enable them to progress to the best and most competitive universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.

Tutoring Approach:

Biology helps pupils to understand the world around them, inspires their curiosity and encourages them to ask questions. Such thought processes should be nurtured and encouraged by utilising activities and questioning techniques that excite the imagination whilst portraying the relevance and application of science in the wider world.

My approach to tutoring involves teaching beyond the specification, to encourage a thorough, rich understanding of the subject by providing additional details that might be glossed over in the classroom. This allows pupils to make links between topics, enabling them to apply their knowledge to unfamiliar contexts. I will ensure pupils are familiar with the different ways questions can be presented, by utilising past paper questions where neccessary.

I love my job. I am passionate about my subject and this passion shows through in my approach to tutoring. If this fits well with you, then I look forward to hearing from you!

Personal Description:
I am a Politics and International Relations graduate from the University of Sheffield.

I believe passionately in the huge value of tutoring students and take great satisfaction in seeing my students achieve their full potential. I like to act as a mentor for tutees and encourage them to think about their future. I have vast knowledge of the university admissions process through my previous work experience and am willing to offer guidance with UCAS applications and university admissions in general.

I believe all students are able to achieve the best grades, it all comes down to their own motivation, hard work and of course teaching.

Teaching Experience:

I have both informal and formal tutoring experience. I have tutored pupils up to GCSE level.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach varies depending on the student's needs and learning style. My philosophy of teaching is based on allowing the students to develop their own thinking and use real life examples where possible. I do place emphasis on past papers and perfecting exam techniques as these are essential for the students to achieve the best grades possible.

Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified and very experienced primary school teacher who loves working with children to help them achieve the best they possibly can. I can provide you with a reliable, friendly and flexible service supporting your child with maths, reading, writing, phonics or speaking and listening. I treat each child as an individual and aim to make each tuition session enjoyable and successful, connecting the learning with your child's interests where possible, and always giving plenty of encouragement and praise.

Teaching Experience:

I am a fully qualified teacher who has taught locally in primary education for 21 years before more recently starting to home tutor children. I have successfully taught children with a wide range of abilities, children with special educational needs and children learning English as an additional language.

I have also had responsibility for leading the teaching of English across the year groups (speaking and listening, reading, writing and phonics).

Tutoring Approach:

I would come to your home for the tuition sessions, providing a familiar setting for your child's learning on a one to one basis.

Current parents and pupils with whom I work testify to my friendly, high quality professional approach and the difference that I can make. All tuition is specifically tailored to each child to help build their confidence whilst being as creative as possible to help them enjoy their learning. In this way I will also guide your child through the steps needed to improve their understanding and to gain confidence in their knowledge, skills and abilities.

Tutoring is available for children being homeschooled as well as for children requiring a little extra help out of school hours - term time and during school holidays.

Personal Description:
Hello! If you're looking for intensive revision before an important exam, or long-term assistance throughout the academic year, then look no further. I graduated with first class honours in 2014 having studied Business Economics for 3 years at Nottingham Trent University. Since leaving University I have pursued a career in financial services, which has given me the perfect opportunity to apply many of the skills I developed throughout education to real-world situations. I have had a keen interest in maths and statistics since a young age, demonstrating my ability by achieving an A at GCSE in Maths and an A in Statistics. This was a contributing factor towards my study of economics given how the two subjects interlink, achieving a B at Economics at A level. All of these skills were brought together at University, with my degree heavily reliant on the use of statistics as well as algebra and other important maths concepts. I am keen to help you/your child achieve their maths goals, and I hope that I can use my use of maths in my every day work to show how important maths and economics skills are both academically and for the real world.

Teaching Experience:

Throughout my time at school, sixth form and university I was always keen to teach peers both as part of large groups in class and on an individual basis, something I enjoyed because it helped me to develop my own skills and also because of the reward of seeing someone else do well as a result of my help. This has included me teaching a fellow GCSE student at the time of my own studying, as well as more recently helping a colleague with her entrance exams for her PGCE teaching exams. I also completed a week of work experience at my local primary school, which was an opportunity for me to develop my coaching skills in the best environment.

Tutoring Approach:

Having personally varied my own learning techniques throughout education dependent on the subject and the learning environment, I understand that every individual learns in a different way; I will use the early stages of tutoring to gauge the needs and learning styles of the tutee, and alter my teaching to these needs. Whilst I am keen believer that each individual has their own learning style, I also believe it is important that everyone tries new styles to work out which is most effective for them. Personally I like the use of extensive notes when first learning to understand a concept or theory, and then more concise notes that can I can use to prompt myself later on. Finally, I think that encouraging someone to regularly sit previous exam papers can develop the skills in a more applied environment whilst also helping a student to be more relaxed when it comes to the real exam situation.

I very much enjoy facilitating learning in a nurturing and engaging manner so that children make excellent progress in their academic ability and personal development. Personal Description:
I am a Cambridge PhD student studying the fascinating complexity of fish behavior. I am a supervisor in zoology at Cambridge, for which I won the award for best supervisor in the sciences, and have worked as a tutor for all grade levels. I love animals and nature, and write fiction in my spare time. I come from a big family and am used to spending time with children and adults of all ages.

Teaching Experience:

My first formal tutoring job was during my undergraduate degree at Harvard University, where I worked as a peer tutor for biology, physics, and chemistry modules I had taken for my course. Working with peers was an excellent way to build communication skills to best explain complex concepts in a variety of scientific fields. My interests are not limited to science, however- I completed a minor degree in English and earned a certificate in Spanish as a part of my undergraduate education. I had the chance to tutor these subjects (in addition to maths and sciences) as a tutor for Varsity Tutors, a tutoring company in America. I worked for Varsity Tutors for about two years, tutoring students in person near my family home in Chicago for one year and online during the first year of my PhD. I am presently a PhD student in Cambridge, and I began supervising Cambridge students in the fall of 2016. I supervised two modules, both in Evolution and Behavior, and had the wonderful experience of teaching several groups of students for three terms (two courses and revision supervisions prior to exams). Building a connection with these students and watching them develop as scholars and as people was incredibly rewarding. I feel lucky to have taught them, and they nominated me for a Cambridge University Students' Union (CUSU) student-led teaching award. CUSU received about 600 nominations for the student-led teaching awards, and I won the award for best supervisor in the sciences.

Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor with the Bureau of Study Counsel at Harvard, Varsity Tutors, and as a supervisor at Cambridge, I have found that one of the most important aspects of my role as a tutor is to connect personally with students to tailor my lessons to their learning styles and interests while bolstering their self-confidence. I have received some touching messages from parents of my students reiterating this fact (the students that stick out in my memory are a 14-year-old student I tutored in Advanced Placement Psychology who had become disheartened due to an ineffective teacher, and an 18-year-old basketball-focused student I tutored in English who developed his interest in writing and was considering studying poetry at university). I think that empowering the student to master the material is a very important part of being an effective tutor.
